Unown shenanigans are perfectly acceptable! The only issue that could arise if they're used to replicate something that requires an approval (like what happened in movie 3), in which case you'd have to get that particular element cleared with staff. Unown in and of themselves are fine though!

Alrighty, thanks! I'll be sure to submit a request for a legend encounter if it comes to it.

Oh, another question. What are the rules on areas such as the Distortion World and Ultra Space? Usually they require legendary pokemon to access but how would things like the portal to the distortion world in turn-back cave be handled?

That's a tough one to answer, and will probably require a few posts rather than just one. Long story short is - interdimensional fatigue is something that certainly happens in the Pokemon world (in particular locations where the border between dimensions is naturally weak)...

... and yeah, theoretically one could cross through under particular circumstances even without a legendary being directly involved. However, most of the time, the only purpose these side-dimensions serve IS to involve a legendary.

For example, the distortion world. Yes, Turnback Cave (and possibly other ancient graveyards) is a liminal space that can somehow link into the distortion world, and perhaps the way could be opened by artificial means. But what's in the distortion world?

You could arguably walk around in there and never even encounter Giratina, possibly the only living thing in what is otherwise a mass of alien noneuclidean geometry... to the best of our awareness anyway. Getting back out again though, could be a major challenge. Or at least, getting back out quite the same way you got in. There's some good cosmic-horror potential in there.

(Even moreso if you lean into the other side/japanese underworld angle, or the movie-esque angle in which things that happen in World A affect World B and vice versa in a weird twisted reflection sort of way!)

Ultra Space is a bit more tenuous. The Alola Region as a whole is kind of an interdimensional fatigue hotspot and ultra wormholes have been known to spontaneously open. We know of people who went through Ultra Wormholes and lived to tell the tale.

There is, however, a bit of a problem with Ultra Wormholes - passing through them charges people with some kind of energy that Ultra Beasts are sensitive to and actively drawn to, as they mistake the Faller (as people who crossed that particular rift are known) for another wormhole which they might mistake as a possible way to return home.

Ultra Beasts crossing the rift into the Pokemon World is a fairly uncommon occurrence, but as they tend to seek out fallers, this COULD lead to multiple encounter situations that are going to give me a personal headache. <<

Incidentally Ultra Space itself is kind of a weird Paradox-Space-esque interdimensional space between parallel universes, and it seems only few creatures can open an ultra wormhole and navigate it in a controlled manner (how anything survives in there is a different question altogether).

The practical upshot of which is that you could PROBABLY end up having characters fall through a spontaneously-occurring ultra wormhole into a parallel world and end up in something akin to the assorted Ultra Wilds rather than one of the specific Ultra Beast worlds... but getting back home again would likely be impossible without legendary intervention.
