A light tore through the darkening sky, a smear of fire on a black canvas. The first one this month. There had been other like it before and there would be others like it again but tonight was the night Flint had decided to make his move. He didn't want to wake up in the morning to yet more bodies littering the beaches. Besides all that flesh attracts some unpleasant visitors. Rip your throat out as a greeting unpleasant. Not exactly the kind of dinner party he enjoyed.
The young man's eyes glittered in the dimly lit cave, reflecting the flickering flame from his campfire. Those chocolate brown eyes had seen some dark things since Flint's arrival on the island. Hopefully he wouldn't have to witness anymore horrors tonight. Some human company would be nice actually, he was longing for any kind of conversation that wasn't completely one-sided. The grunts Ash would give him didn't exactly count.
As if she knew that Flint was thinking of her Ash suddenly appeared by his side, nuzzling against him affectionately. His hand instinctively reached down to the pet the beast but his face was still set in stone. He hated sending her out there alone but the truth was he would only slow her down, especially at night. With a sigh he finally gave in. "Ash. Go fetch." He commanded, trying to look down at her but she was already gone, a blur scrambling out of the mouth of the cave and into the dense forest.
Meanwhile on the beach.......The light had finally been extinguished. The great machine that had descended from the sky was now embedded in the soft sand of one of the stretches of southern beach, beeping softly. After a few minutes it gave an almighty groan and four separate compartments slid open and revealed the forms of four sleeping humans, all dressed in nothing but the sparsest cloths. The unconscious bodies were dumped on the sand, the machine would be long gone by the time they awoke and they would be none the wiser to how they had got here. 10 minutes later the device had vanished and they began to awake....
