Just wanted to test the waters and see if anyone might be interested in roleplaying in a dragon-ruled society. This society would consist of different species of dragons from different kingdoms. The only thing they would all have in common, is that they are all the western depiction of dragons. That also means no anthro.
The lore for this universe would be based on the book series Wings of Fire, however, you won't have to read those books to participate. You would just chose a type of dragon below and develop your character around that dragon type's lore.
Additionally, I would like this to actually take place before any of the events in the book series itself, so we sort of have a clean canvas to work with.
Another option for characters that I'm considering would be these strange creatures called "scavengers." They don't have much in the way of scales or fur, save for their heads, and they are very crafty in making things with their gentle little paws (to be blunt, scavengers are humans in the Wings of Fire universe).
Anywho! Below you will find the different types of dragons. Feel free to pick one and come up with your own bio!
(The following descriptions are direct quotes from Wings of Fire by Tui T. Sutherland, see Works Cited section)
MudWings
Description: Thick, armored brown scales, sometimes with amber and gold underscales; large, flat heads with nostrils on top of the snout.
Abilities: Can breathe fire (if warm enough), hold their breath for up to an hour, blend into large mud puddles; usually very strong.
Queen: Queen Moorhen
Behaviour: Often considered to be dim-witted, MudWings have a tendency to be very family-oriented. They are completely loyal to their brothers and sisters that they are hatched with. They are also considered to be big eaters.
SeaWings:
Description: Blue or green or aquamarine scales; webs between their claws; gills on their necks; glow-in-the-dark stripes on their tails/snouts/underbellies.
Abilities: Can breathe underwater, see in the dark, create huge waves with one splash of their powerful tails; excellent swimmers.
Queen: Queen Coral
Behavior: Like other types of dragons, SeaWings are quite loyal to their queen, who at times can be ruthless when she isn't stuck in her own world. These dragons prefer life underwater, and are wary when it comes to dealing with dragons on land. They communicate underwater by lighting up the stripes on their bodies.
SkyWings:
Description: Red-gold or orange scales; enormous wings.
Abilities: Powerful fighters and fliers, can breathe fire.
Queen: Queen Scarlet
Behavior: Quite a few of these dragons can be considered brash and hot-headed. If they see weaknesses, most are inclined to point them out. Most also both respect and fear Queen Scarlet, who sadistically enjoys sentencing traitorous dragons to execution.
SandWings:
Description: Pale gold or white scales the color of desert sand; poisonous barbed tail; forked black tongues.
Abilities: Can survive a long time without water, poison enemies with the tips of their tails like scorpions, bury themselves for camouflage in the desert sand, breathe fire.
Queen: Queen Oasis
Behavior: Much like SeaWings, SandWings are protective of their land and queen.
NightWings:
Description: Purplish-black scales and scattered silver scales on the underside of their wings, like a night sky full of stars; forked black tongues.
Abilities: Can breathe fire, disappear into dark shadows.
Queen: A closely guarded secret.
Behavior: Nightwings are normally very secretive. They hide their abilities, and it is commonly believed that they are able to read minds and predict the future. Very few NightWings are seen outside of their hidden kingdom, so when one is encountered, they tend to be the center of attention.
IceWings:
Description: Silvery scales like the moon or pale blue like ice; ridged claws to grip the ice; forked blue tongues; tails narrow to a whip-thin end.
Abilities: Can withstand subzero temperatures and bright light, exhale a deadly frostbreath.
Queen: Queen Glacier
Behavior: IceWings grew up in a very structuralized hierarchy, consisting of certain classes that every family is born into. Each class defines where you stand, and how you are treated. That being said, IceWings from high classes have a tendancy to believe they are the best types of dragons, much better than the others. Meanwhile, those from lower classes, are likely a bit more humble.
RainWings:
Description: Scales constantly shift colors, usually bright like birds of paradise; prehensile tails.
Abilities: Can camouflage their scales to blend into their surroundings; shoot a deadly venom from their fangs.
Queen: Queen Dazzling
Behavior: RainWings are generally considered lazy. Nobody quite knows where their kingdom is, and for the most part, nobody really cares. In order for them to be happy and maintain their abilities, they need to bask in the sun. Because of this, they can mostly be found napping atop trees. Additionally, they prefer fruits and vegetables to meat.
The rest is up for discussion. If anyone is interested, or has any questions, please reply and let me know!
