Root Of A Feather

Why won't they open their eyes?
Sometimes I wonder where they've been hiding,
It's just impossible for me to see how they could be so full of pain
When there's so many beautiful things before their wet eyes.
I feel for those who can't be like us,
Because I feel the bones in my wings grow stronger each day,
And my feathers don't feel the cold anymore.
So why can't they be like us?
I wish they would see the beauty they walk on
The beauty that they cry and bleed upon.

Instead of crying,
Instead of hurting some more,
Get up and breathe.
It's time to feel like we do.
Don't you see the wings this new life brought me?
Trust this life you curse,
And put faith in those monsters that brought you down.
Haven't you learned from those mistakes?
Stop bringing pain to yourself and look around,
If you begin to see like I see,
Love like I love,
Your wings will catch your every fall as well.

And you, my love,
You are the beauty cast upon this Earth,
And you are the faith I have in my life.
You made me believe in the hollow bones upon my shoulders,
In the feathers finding a home with me.
I can't fall anymore,
Because I am your angel,
And I have far more to protect than my own self.
You know you can put your faith in me too.

Why do the little things pierce me so deep?
Will the wind ever find its way beneath my wings
And carry me off towards the sun I love so much?
Can't I burn off in the atmosphere?
To feel the carelessness I've never known before.
In a world where my love means everything,
Anything could so easily go wrong.
And my heart is pounding harder these days,
All for the fear instead of freedom.
They tell me I'm safe here,
But for how long?
