Open Fortis Discussion thread

This will be the discussion thread for: https://pokecharms.com/threads/the-region-of-fortis.15195/
You will all be asked to post your bios, and other things like ideas for the RP, etc. Please read the story before making your character, and posting. Your character will not be able to simply breeze past this league.

There is no warm welcome to you who comes to challenge Fortis. This is a region valuing the strength of Pokemon, and trainers above all else. Only trainers who put all their effort and passion into training their Pokemon, and battling are rewarded. Those who cannot achieve glory through means of their determination, are quickly left in the slums and gutters of Fortis' many cities.
This is a renowned region infamous for it's soul crushing gym battles, and harsh wilderness. Veteran trainers, gym leaders from other regions, and even league champions have flocked to this region in search of the ultimate challenge to their skills. Tourism, and a naturally strong, and diverse population of Pokemon have made this region what it is today. Pokemon Gym Leaders brag battle sense equal, or greater to Elite Four from other regions, while simple trainers on the routes have more than just six measly Rattata on their team. Many people flock to this Pokemon utopia every year to observe, and challenge the best of the best. Many even call Fortis the strongest region in the world!
However, Fortis is a gilded region; gold, and ivory on the surface, with rotting wood beneath. Many trainers who challenge this region are then trapped forever, and are never able to break from the region's caste system, leaving their children to suffer as well. Areas that are not tourist attractions, or near a gym are dark, and dirty places. People fight over the scraps left behind by the strong. Crime syndicates run rampant, stealing people's Pokemon, and items. The destruction of a foreign trainer's hopes and dreams is common. The despair of residents of Fortis' lower class is a certainty. Many of the Gym Leaders, and even the Elite Four, and Champion have ties to the most powerful crime syndicates of the region.

Crime syndicates are unseen by the outside world, working in the background of Fortis' government. Syndicates possess a massive amount of power, so it's no surprise that they are formidable antagonists. They cannot be beaten by any rookie trainer with a level 5 starter, and a few potions. While every order has its dregs, the gangs of this region are able to afford much higher quality Pokemon than those of the lower castes. Admins, and leaders even boast full teams of Pokemon capable of winning Pokemon Leagues. In fact, many highly experienced Pokemon trainers who began their journey to challenge the league ended up working for these syndicates. Among the most influential and powerful of these syndicates is the infamous Team Ingro. These inpeople should be avoided at all costs, lest you too wish to know the bottom of the Gyara River. They have their hands in every aspect of Fortis, and even control fringe gangs.
Every environment is available, but every new challenger is dropped off in Dolus town. A town which seems to embody the entirety of the region; a bright shiny lure to a gaping abyss. It is a city holding the sharp contrast of the super rich, and impoverished. Many new trainers roam this city, filled with hopes of becoming the strongest in the world! The route just outside the city is harsh, and unforgiving. Powerful, rare, and dangerous Pokemon lurk in the cover of its tall grass.
Rules:
-All challengers are stripped of the Pokemon of their region, and access to any other previous Pokemon.
-A maximum of 6 Pokemon in your character's party at a time(Duh)
-All Pokemon(Aside from legendaries, fakemons, underlevelled final evos, and to an extent shinies) are allowed.
-No one may start with more than the standard 3,000Poke. (No, "I'm a previous champion and have this large amount of money to buy anything I want" Everyone starts the same. )
-Your character may be a resident of the region, but please PM me to discuss this before posting.
-All Pokemarts in this region sell items for double their original value(lots of upper class tourists, so why not pay more for the same thing?). If you are a trainer, money will be a conflict, and a problem you will face.
-This RP will follow a style similar to Pokemon Adventures. Meaning that levels, and game mechanics are considered, but turn based combat, and other non realistic elements are not present. Pokemon battles do not always rely on type advantages, and stats. The creativity of the trainer can determine the outcome of the battle. (ex. Charmander used Smokescreen to hide itself, and come in for a sneak attack.)
-Pokemon are able to die (Don't worry, this is more of a character development tool than anything. They will only die if you decide it to be that way.)
-You will be asked to write at least a paragraph for every post. If you cannot think of anything, the occasional two sentence post will be allowed, but no less.
-I will be GMing. In other words, I will be the one to decide how NPCs act, and when they interact with players. Naturally, this applies to trainers you might battle for money. This also means I can decide when a wild Pokemon appears, but players can decide this as well. I will also be deciding what certain portions of the world look like. However, please post ideas in the thread below if you want to go to a new areas.

Characters:

Name: Itigus Kaedus
Gender: Male
Age: 15
Appearance: Red eyes, black matted down hair, pale skin, somewhat malnourished yet athletic body. He wears a tattered black hoodie, and a plain red shirt, with torn up gray cargo pants that are a few sizes too big.
Personality: Analytical, loves to write down observations, and possible strategies. A quick thinker, but can also overthink. He is a person who never gives up, and will push himself to take on an unhealthy workload. He talks to himself, thinking out loud most of the time, and is rather difficult to get along with. He does not see other people as potential friends, and as either assets, or hindrances to his goals. Itigus admires Pokemon to a fault even putting himself in dangerous situations to study them. His love for Pokemon is what drives him towards his goal of becoming the champion of the Fortis league. While he is blunt, and rather sarcastic, and cold to people, his kindness towards Pokemon shows he has the traits of a true friend.
Backstory: Itigus only knew his parents for a short time, and he was thankful for it. Often times he would be beaten, and abused. He was treated like he wasn't a human. Often times they would lock him in a cage, or in a cramped dark space without food or water. Itigus became accustomed to the sensation of starvation, and thirst. Surviving to the next day was his everyday. His parents had never wanted him, they only wanted the checks the government gave them for having a child. Money that was supposed to be buying Itigus food was spent on things of vanity, and vain material items. They wanted to keep a good appearance with the dregs of Team Ingro. They wanted to be apart of that gang, and live the high life. In the end, however, they ended up dead. Shot in front of Itigus himself, for a debt they had dug themselves into. For that one moment, he had found himself glad that he was hidden in his cage. They would have killed him too if he wasn't.
However, Itigus was now trapped without a key, and did not have anyone to free him. He could not break the bars, nor the lock. He could not get water, nor food. He was left to rot, and die.
Two days without a single drop of water, or a crumb of food.
As the young child felt the grip of death, he was saved by something. A blur of dark blackness broke his cage, and left him food, and water. To this day Itigus still cannot explain what that blur was. Whether it was some sort of person, Pokemon, or illusion of his own malnutrition he didn't know. All Itigus knew now was that he had been given a second chance at life. After nursing himself back to health, he finally exited the prison he had been born in.
Despite this, Itigus only learned that he had expanded his cage. Fortis was a region of survival, just like the cage he grew up in. The only difference was that Itigus was no allowed to move about freely. It took him a while before he was able to properly steal enough food to live off of.

In the following years, Itigus fell into a cycle of survival. Only managing to get enough to eat. He did not like to steal money. It only made him a bigger target, and disadvantaged someone else; The last thing he wanted to do was be more like his parents. However, food and water were necessity, and would go bad after enough time anyway.
He never really knew his birthday, but Itigus decided to make it the day that he escaped the prison he called home. October 1st was the day he added another number to his age. The years passed, forcing Itigus to survive, and live on the streets. He always envied Pokemon, and their ability to be free. He would often see Pokemon in his same situation, however, abandoned, and left to rot. The young boy took it upon himself to help the Pokemon that couldn't help themselves. If it meant stealing a little extra food, or medicine for them he would do it. Itigus did not have Pokeballs to capture them, and medicine could only cure so much. The Pokemon he helped were usually ones that had been released by their trainers. They had trouble trusting humans, especially Pokemon trainers.
Itigus could not help but feel that his efforts were a waste. No matter how many Pokemon he helped, there were ten more in its place that were unable to get any help at all. When he was 14 he finally decided that he was going to take on the Fortis League. He had grown up around the advertisements for it. Unimaginable wealth, power, and glory. With this influence he could change the region, so that Pokemon would not be abandoned like this.
It was around this time that Itigus encountered a badly damaged Poochyena. With a broken leg, and cuts all around its body, it still found a way to stand, and fight. Itigus managed to treat it in time, and spent the next year helping it recover. He saw a lot of himself in the Poochyena, and he had a feeling the Pokemon did too. Unlike other Pokemon, this Poochyena did not take its first chance to escape into the wild. In fact, it followed him around wherever he went. Even though he didn't have a Pokeball to keep it in, the Poochyena still acted as if it was his partner. For the following year, the two trained, and found they had a naturally high resonance with each other.

Eventually, Itigus was able to steal a Pokeball, and use it on the Poochyena. It was at this moment that Itigus gave his partner the name 'Ajax'. After the warrior who had taken on an entire army by himself.

Name: Jeddy Reed
Gender: Male
Age: 17
Appearance: Shoulder-length brown hair with small, circular glasses that hide smiling honey-green eyes. Likes to wear pop-culture t-shirts with a bomber-style brown jacket and lightly-ripped jeans. Has a tall, lanky physique that begs for posture improvement.
Personality: Often scatter-brained, Jeddy sometimes has difficulty with conveying his many thoughts into a single sentence. Tangent ideas frequently detriment his original intentions. However, his colorful mind lends an appreciation of the arts; especially music. If a situation is overwhelming or ominous, Jeddy seeks inspiration for a creative solution. Honesty is relative to him. Embellishing escapades with extra "flavor" is what keeps him interested in his days. While his head is frequentky in the clouds, Jeddy's loyalty never wavers to those he feels possess "good vibes". It takes a serious misdeed to change his temperament from relaxed to vengeful, which is very painful for his kind soul to endure. He sees himself as an entertaining light amidst the region's oppressed caste-system.
Backstory: Jeddy was born in the Unova region near the outskirts of Virbank City. He grew up with posters of Gym Leader Roxie and her rock band on his wall. Despite originally wanting to join her gym and play music, Jeddy found his calling as a traveling entertainer. He moved to Nimbasa city to hone his bardic talents on the Battle Subway rails. Jeddy learned to play several instruments, but dedicated much of his discipline to stringed techniques. Being a vagabond, electricity was often an issue. Jeddy adopted the lute as his main instrument for not only its acoustic properties but also its archaic style. His quick finger-work captivated many passengers hailing from various regions. Jeddy supported himself with tips from impressed subway occupants. An elderly man from Kalos was so moved by one of Jeddy's ballads that he gifted the young entertainer with a Pokemon egg. Jeddy had written songs about plenty of Pokemon, but he had never wanted to own one until he laid eyes on his gift. He envisioned grand delusions of performing huge concerts with a lineup of Pokemon accompaniment. Jeddy kept his egg in his lute case where he collected his tips. The egg incubated to the sounds that Jeddy played, and when the day arrived when it hatched, the baby Noibat's cries mimicked the melodies it had learned to love inside its shell. While riding the routes of Gear Station for several months developing a routine with his new partner, the musician overheard many tales of the Fortis region. The gilded fabrications of such an elite region seemed attractive and opportunistic for an aspiring PokeBard. However, once he began gathering knowledge about the region from various sources, he realized that there were many struggling Fortisian denizens who needed his creative genius to find happiness. Jeddy planned to venture to the region, undertake the Fortis league, and invigorate the oppressed masses with harmonic inspiration.

Name:Xavier Cross

Gender:
Male

Age:
29

Appearance:
Xavier is around average size. He had his hair dyed silver and deep brown eyes. His right hand is burnt from an accident in the lab.
Clothing: Wears an unbuttoned lab coat over a black T-shirt at all times, along with long pants enforced to not get cut on the job. Along with combat boots and light gloves, he can handle most wild Pokemon.
Accessories: He has polarized glasses and a wide bracelet around his right hand with a screen that functions as a Pokedex and a X-Transceiver. It's got a port for a Rotom in the side, modeled after technology from Alola. (Of course, he doesn't have his Rotom with him on this journey... So that's not important.)

Personality:
Xavier has a tendency to get absorbed in his work. Pokemon are one of the few things that completely fascinate him, and being a professor he has a good reason to be. He sometimes acts before thinking, but that's a rarity.
Skills: Intelligence is his middle name. JK, it's John. He can list off facts about any prehistoric Pokemon no problem. He's very good at operating machines.

Backstory:

When he was younger, unlike many of his friends who left school after they became teenagers to travel Unova, he stayed in school to research Pokemon. He became an expert on Pokemon Fossils and Technology; before he even turned 23; he already had sponsoring from the Offical Pokemon League to make a lab and start research on the not very-well-known Pokemon fossils.

When he turned 25, his lab was finished and done. However, the work was not; He also soon made a safe haven for revived fossils. He ran a service in his early years to revive trainer's fossils; In return, he would raise them for a bit, let them live like they would before they died and maybe breed, and then send back to the trainers a younger offspring of the revived fossils. This was met with great approval, as it let him research and rehabilitate fossils and trainers get great battling tools and friends. Some of the babies were even given as parters to elderly or beginning trainers.

By 29, he had a massive process in which he was trying to reintroduce revived fossils back into the wild. He eventually took a long break from his research to travel across the regions and possibly find more prehistoric Pokemon.
He's caught several and spoke with many other scientists.

Name: Terrance Crane
Gender: Male
Age: 17
Apearance: Long, shoulder length hair. Chestnut colored hair, wither blue eyes. Wears black fingerless gloves and a black tank top. He wears a stone grey vest over his tank top. Slightly muscular. Wears black jeans and black hiking boots. Very strong and well at fighting. His sleeveless arms are covered in bruises from fights and has a large scar, from a fight, on his back.
Personality: Very direct. Doesn't care for other people's company very much. Self reliant. Very good at spinning lies. He is also an somewhat good thief and good at sneaking around. Very slick and can weasel his way out of most situations. Doesn't care about other people's feelings, or what they think of him. Doesn't let a lot of people around him connect with him, but when he does he would die for them, because he considers them his family. The only person in this group is his Riolu.
Backstory: Terrance was born in Vermlion City and lived with his two parents. His parents were very busy and never paid much attention towards him. He never really got to know his parents and never really considered them his family. Then when he was 10, his parents died in a car crash. Terrance didn't feel sad about it. He was totally emotionless about him being orphaned. To him, nothing had directly changed. He was sent to an orphanage. He didn't enjoy, being at the orphanage very much and decided to leave. That night, just after his first day there, he escaped. He snuck on board a boat headed towards Canalave city. When he arrived, he stayed in Canalave City, for about a year, honing, his pickpocket skills, and overall thievery tactics. After a while, he stopped stealing for the necessity, but for the enjoyment of it. He refuses to be called a kleptomaniac, because this is a lifestyle he chose. Then one day, he stole a pokeball and caught a wild Sandshrew. He decided that he would go through a journey through Sinnoh. He still lived on the streets, and stole money. But with Pokémon in his life, he became strong. He spent hours a day training his Pokémon and working out. Then one day, outside of Snowpoint City he got into a fight with a gang leader. He lost and ended up with a jagged scar on his back. An elderly man offered for Terrance to stay with him until he was fully healed. That night, Terrance met the old man's Riolu. The Pokémon took a liking to Terrance. After Terrance was fully healed, the man gave the Riolu to him, claiming it would help tame his wild nature. Terrance and Riolu soon became good friends, training and working out whenever the two had the chance. After a while, Terrance decided that the Sinnoh Leauge wasn't a good enough challenge for him, so he took Riolu and headed off towards the Fortis region, by sneaking on board a boat.

Name:Merlot Kilstein

Gender:
Female

Age:
19

Appearance:
Her hair is wine-red, usually kept in neat, tumbling curls. However, she may pull it back into a pony tail or tight bun if the situation requires it. She has dark gray eyes and wears contacts. The clothes she wears are expensive and ill-suited for any sort of journey, but she is too stubborn to change. Usually, her get up includes a designer skirt, jacket, and boot combo- all dark reds, blues, greens, golds, grays, or black. Her signature touch is a pair of sunglasses that remain pushed up on her head. She is never caught without what she deems is a necessary amount of make-up. She is slim, but not petite in built, and she is fairly tall for a women (about 5’9”).

Personality:
She is smooth and suave with everything she says and does. Growing up with lots of money and having a senator for a father, she knows the ins and outs of the corrupt, upper class world. She has grown up to be a talented liar, and is good at manipulating people to get what she wants. However, her high position in society has made her overconfident and neglectful, and she tends to look down on anyone not of her status. While she is good at reading situations, she can be impulsive as well for the thrill of it- a good and bad trait, depending on how one looks at it. She does things not necessarily because she wants to, but because she can.

Backstory:
Merlot grew up comfortably in the Fortis upper class, with servants on her heels and money in constant supply. Her family, the Kilsteins, are well known in the region due to their political ties (her father, for one is a senator), as well as other things. It isn’t a well-kept secret that her family works in ties with Ingro, as rumors buzz around, but most of it is misinformation. The only thing her father does is take bribes and turn a blind eye. Guaranteed, that wasn’t the MORALLY correct thing to do, but it was how he held his position. As her father said, power was all about going deaf to things one cares about the most. Of course, that business approach solidified his position on family as well. Rather than being a daughter, she became an ornament, just like her mother- showing up to fancy dinners when she needed to, nodding and listening to the right people, earning top scores at school so that her accomplishments could become his bragging rights- it became a routine. And she adapted well to it. Though she did have some doubts at times and felt lonely, she focused on herself and worked through it. She developed a suave confidence that became her shield. She let her father use her as the hidden centerpiece in his campaigns, bouncing her name around to seem like a ‘family man’ in order to gain trust from the masses. While all of it went on, she listened. And she learned. She leaned the social elite, how to identify individual weak points and exploit them. She learned how to manipulate them. Merlot listened to the secret midnight phone calls and political proposals, learning everything she could about criminal syndicates with the least amount of contact possible. And, she eventually became an adult. And, she eventually saw people started to turn towards her. Rather than being the listener, the poster child, the only child, the rich, spoiled child- she was the speaker. Though she would never admit it, that change scared Merlot more than anything. Suddenly she was getting questions on whether or not she would follow in her father’s footsteps. Would she become a successful politician? Would she go into business? Would she marry into some other rich family and become a trophy wife, just like her mother? There was also Team Ingro lurking in the shadows, closer than one would think. Suddenly, Merlot had the power of choice, and, after a year of “I don’t know”s and “I couldn’t care less about that”s, she reigned in a decision. She would become a trainer. Of course, she had no on hands experience with it whatsoever, but she had gotten excellent grades in Pokemon school and regularly watched battles for amusement. She even picked up guide books, and strolled through them on occasion, when she had nothing better to do. She knew all the basics, and had a working knowledge of battle mechanics and strategies. The only question that remained was, “Why not?”. Her life was too boring anyways. The money, the stability, the sketchiness in the background- and so, she had her own Pokemon bred and set out. It would be more exciting and spontaneous than anything else her life had to offer.

Name: Griffon "Griff" Jones

Gender: Male

Age: 15

Appearance: Griff is dark skinned with heterochromatic eyes. He's lanky, and stands at 6'3. Griff's left eye is blue, and his right is brown. He has raven black hair. His outfit consists of a grey t-shirt, a white hoodie, dark blue jeans, black and green tennis shoes, a black hat, and his green backpack. He doesn't always wear his hat and hoodie, however.

Personality: Griff's an overall kind and generous person. He's usually seen at his friends' sides, helping them through any issues they may have. Just because he's kind doesn't mean he's not smart. He's also fairly intelligent, and won't hesitate if he knows he needs to do something to survive. He's considered loyal to his friends, but can be slow to trust new people. Griff himself doubts he'll make any true friends in Fortis. When Griff needs something but can't afford it, he kind of goes in to a survival above all else mental state. While he keeps his common sense and rational thinking, his main focus will be gathering the supplies he needs to survive. Due to some trouble with the upper-class citizens, Griff tended to never get along with any of them.

Backstory: Griff was born fifteen years ago, in Jubilife City. His parents were low-class citizens, and were victims of being charged for their necessities for far more than middle- or upper-class citizens. Both his parents worked multiple jobs until his mother, Jade Jones, became pregnant with him. His father's name was Steven Jones. When Griffon reached he age of five, he was working a job or two himself. His mother went back to her jobs, and Griff walked around resident's Pokemon. Because of his family's status as being poor, a lot of richer children in Jubilife would make fun of him for being poor, and the occasional bully would beat him up. Eventually, a man whom owned one of the Pokemon Griff frequently took out on walks, offered to teach the boy how to defend himself. The man and one of his other Pokemon, a Lucario, helped train Griffon in hand to hand combat. He got the basics, as well as some more advanced moves. All around, Griff was ready to defend himself from the bullies. A few days later, one of the rich kids tried to start a fight with Griffon. It ended with the kid flat on his back, unconscious, and Griffon being suspended for a few days. The kid wasn't terribly injured, but was just hit with a few punches and then knocked out. Needless to say, no one messed with Griff again. Fast forward a few years, to where he's thirteen. Only a week before Griffon's fourteenth birthday, his father was killed. The police never figured out who killed him, and Griff was never told how he had been killed. Griff's fourteenth birthday was depressing, considering his father's funeral was the next day. It was a cheap funeral, and birthday party, but it was there. Only a week or two later, the same man who had taught Griff to defend himself came to him with a gift: a Pokemon egg, mere days from hatching. A few days later, the egg hatched, turning out to be a Riolu, which Griffon named Anubis. The two were close, sort of like brothers, and went through the tough times and the good times together. Now, at the age of fifteen, after finally scraping together enough money, Griff and Anubis feel they're ready to journey to the Fortis Region. Recently, his mom had found a well-paying job as well, due to a stroke of luck on her part. Now, because of a run-in with an agent, Jade works for a company selling cars.

Name: Kala Nahesa

Gender: Male

Age: 16

Appearance: Sandy brown skin, dotted with freckles. Kala has large, faded amethyst eyes, and wears a small amount of matching purple face paint around his eyes to hide his raccoon-like shadows. His hair runs down to his shoulder blades and is an unkempt wavy mess of jet black. He is lean and stands at around 5' 8". Kala's normal attire consists of an ash gray sleeveless shirt, brown camo cargo shorts, and a pair of sandals that are colored to look like a Wimpod. On both of his hands, Kala wears a silver ring, one given to him by each of his parents.

Personality: Kala is one of those kids who thinks he can do anything he sets his mind to. In fact, the best way to get him to do anything is to tell him that he can't! He's a fiery ball of energy when he has something to do, but when he's bored, he is more akin to a bottle of lightning: unstable and jittery, wanting to move or at least have something to do. He's a determined kid, and even if he fails at a task multiple times, he'll still persevere. That being said, even he has a point where he has to face the fact that he can't do anything. When he has those moments, he'll fall into a state of sadness and apathy for a while before bouncing back to his normal state, usually thanks to his best friend in the entire world, his Dewpider named Shizu.

Backstory:
Kala's parents, both still alive, well, and happily married, were and still are workaholics (Kala assumes he got his sense of determination and activity from them.) They were insanely productive and efficient in their fields of work, one being a Professor's aide hailing originally from Johto, the other being a chef for a restaurant in Hau'oli City. Their productivity and efficiency is the primary attributor to Kala's hyperactivity, though they both believe that Kala doesn't apply it properly. According to them, if he were to "focus more on being useful, then his hyperactivity would become more like our productivity, and things would be perfect." They never really had much time to hang out with Kala, and as a result, Kala never really grew very attached to them. At one point in his life, they insisted that he refer to them by name rather than by "mom" and "dad." Despite this absence in his life, Kala kept on smiling. He didn't want to let his parents' constant work-related absence bring him down, so he set a challenge for himself: How long can he stay optimistic despite being without his parents all the time? Originally, it was tough to maintain a smile whenever he was told by his parents "I'll be there tomorrow," or "I'll come look later," but as time went on, he found it much easier to keep on being happy rather than falling into sadness from being alone. His facade of happiness slowly took over his normal attitude, and his happiness became constant with little to no effort to keep it there. Kala remembers one moment where the two of his parents took time off of their work to be with him. It was when he was about seven, and his parents both got him a birthday present - granted, a few months late, but it's the thought that counts. They both got him a silver ring, one for each hand. At that moment, Kala thought they had changed, but they went right back to work the next day. Nevertheless, he treasures the rings as signs that despite never being close to them, his parents still loved him. Due to the emotional distance between him and his parents, who he still loves very much, Kala would try to befriend others instead. He was never great at befriending other people, considering the fact that his hyperactive nature tends to annoy people, but he had several Pokemon friends, including a Mudbray, a few Wingulls, and a Dewpider that he found as a baby. This Dewpider in particular, which he nicknames Shizu clicked with Kala the most. Both of them had parents that were never really around them, so they both spent a lot of time together. Kala would often sneak out of his house in Paniola Town and run down to Brooklet Hill just to spend hours with Shizu. They would play in the water together, day or night, rain or storm. Their parents never got mad at either of them, considering neither of their parents ever paid much attention to what they did. Eventually, when Kala set out to be a Pokemon Trainer, he chose her as his starter rather than a traditional one. Upon completion of his first trial, the captain Ilima received word of a region far tougher to beat than Alola or any of the other six. He let the news slip, and Kala and Shizu were hooked. They made it their ultimate goal to conquer the Fortis League, Kala secretly hoping that doing this would get his parents to notice him a bit more - or at all.

Name: Mero Genus

Gender: Male

Age: 15
Appearance: Blood red hair, and crystal blue eyes. Mero exudes an air of refinement, and high class. Even when in a simple hoodie, and cargo pants, he carries himself like a man of power. His clothes are functional, and practical for the Fortis challenge. His usual clothing consists of a dark gray hoodie with navy blue stripes down the shoulders, black cargo pants, and a navy blue shirt. He is rather tall, standing 6' 0'', and has a lean athletic build. It is obvious he is in top physical condition.

Personality: He is rather narcissistic having been groomed to take on the Fortis League since birth, and not having lost a single battle. He does not care to socialize with people who are neither interesting, or strong. Despite his narcissism he is incredibly aware of the battle field. His overconfidence is bred by his skill as a trainer, rather than being a result of his upper class heritage. He is a highly charismatic, and personable speaker, and can make connections to those who are important to him. To those he views as weak, he will show no mercy to them, or their Pokemon. He sees a weak challenger as an insult, and will make sure they pay for it in full. When mercilessly beating the weak, he seems to take a sadistic pleasure in the act.

Backstory: Mero grew up in the most well respected family of the Fortis region; the Genus. Many sharing his blood have conquered the Fortis challenge, and it has become a right of passage for heirs to the family name. Considering this pedigree, Mero had been groomed from birth to become a Pokemon master. His mother had made sure that he was always surrounded by Pokemon, and that he was capable of battling before he could even properly walk.

Mero's father was only in his life on occasion as he was always busy with work. No matter how much Mero asked around, no one would tell him exactly what his father did for a living. The child did not even know his father's full name. When his father did happen to grace his presence Mero was always met with a brutal training session. Even though Mero barely knew him, he did know that his father would not have a weak son.

Mero showed his natural affinity for battles early on, and was given the best tutors money could buy. He was capable of raising, and commanding Pokemon when he was only eight years old. Not a day was spent where Mero wasn't battling other trainers. With the Pokemon that were given to him, he was able to beat even some of the more experienced trainers of the region.

When he turned ten years old his father had a full six on six battle with him. The boy had never known what it was like to have been crushed so thoroughly before. Mero had never tasted defeat before, his loss only made more painful by the fact that he hadn't managed to faint a single Pokemon of his father's. On his tenth birthday, his father had taught him the feeling of defeat. With a cold demeanor, his father imparted one final piece of wisdom to his son, "The world is for the strong, and the strong only. Never compromise to the weak, and simply crush them without mercy. Pokemon are creatures with infinite potential, and reflect their trainer's power. If a Pokemon is worthless, their trainer is even more worthless. In essence, do not share this world with trainers like that. Find your true strength on your own, and when you do, challenge me again."

After this day, he had traveled to other regions, and competed in their leagues. With the Pokemon that were given to him by his, he demolished the leagues, and their champions. Mero was a genius who never stopped improving. After winning many awards, and earning first place in everything he set out to win, he came back to Fortis. Everything before had merely been his training, and nothing more. Now was the time that he would take on his true challenge, and he would win the league with every ounce of effort he could put into it.

Upon his return, on his fifteenth birthday, his mother gifted him a Shiny Rockruff to begin his journey with. Although he had raised Pokemon, and trained them before, this would be the first time he would travel with a single weak Pokemon. The degree to which he could train this Rockruff would be his reflection as a trainer. Mero spent the next week training the Rockruff to its fullest capacity without evolving it. When he had completed the Rockruff's Super Training, he finally decided to name the Pokemon. After a bit of thought, the trainer decided on the name 'Fenrir' after the norse wolf who would devour the gods during the end of days. It was a fitting name, given the fact that Mero aimed to take down the gods of the Fortis region. He was not simply satisfied with the league championship title. He aimed to win against the five gods who stood atop the summit of strength in the Fortis region; The Elite Four, and the Champion.

With his new Pokemon, a Pokedex, and an encyclopedic knowledge of both Pokemon, and the Fortis region, Mero set out. His journey started in August 21st(A week before Itigus); the same day that the Fortis League ended.
It was his birthright to win the league, and to become the champion. He vowed to crush all those who stood in his path to that goal.

Thank you so much for accepting me. I have a basic idea of how I'd like to post my introduction, but I'd like to clear some details with you so that future participants may benefit.

I'd like to be en route to the starter town like most economy tourists from other regions. I'm assuming that's by sea, although I suppose planes do exist. I didn't know if you already had a name prepared for a passenger ship like this, but I'd like for Jeddy to earn his starting currency by playing his lute for tips. I don't mind naming one myself, but I didn't want to mess with anything you've planned.

I also would like to know some basic info about the starter town so I can make my post accurate to your vision.

I'll leave the name of the ship up to your discretion as I'd assume Fortis would have more than one ship, or plane. People looking to challenge the league are forced to start in Dolus town, but tourists may enter anywhere.

What you need to know about Dolus town is that it has a very bright and bustling exterior with a large area of the slums on the interior. This is the town many challengers are trapped in when they begin their journey due to the harsh wilderness outside it. Not to mention, this same town is where a lot of new challengers get their money stolen, or lost in Pokemon battles. There are many trainers who abuse the league's system of forcing trainers to only have one untrained Pokemon when they start.

Name: Xavier Cross

Gender: Male

Age: 29

Appearance: Xavier is around average size.

Personality:Xavier has a tendency to get absorbed in his work.

Hmmmmm, this is close to being approved, but I'm unsure of whether or not you'll be able to make consistent detailed posts. Part of the point of the backstory is to show me how well you can write a story. Put a bit more detail into the backstory, and you're approved. Don't make another post, just edit the current one.

Denied. There is not enough detail in this post to make me believe that you will be able to consistently write quality posts in the RP. Not to mention that I explicitly stated that players were only allowed to have Pokemon in their first stage of evolution.

I've been thinking. If players wish to join along the line they will need to be able to get their stories straight, and catch up with the rest of the people who have been RPing for a while.

While this won't be a problem until perhaps a month later, I think it would be good to brainstorm ideas on this matter now.
I had an idea that perhaps players will keep track of what day it is, or rather, throughout the RP I will keep track by counting the days. However, that could end up becoming confusing,
Other than that people would possibly have to write incredibly lengthy posts of their character reacting to events that happen along with their journey through Fortis up until the present time. While I don't think this is a tragedy, it would probably deter new people from joining, and get progressively harder the more we add onto the story.
The other option would be to simply have their characters start normally, and progress post by post. I suppose that decision could be left up to the player.

Perhaps I should edit the rules to tell people that they need to react to the past events, and write about their journey in Fortis up until the present, or simply start fresh with a single Pokemon.

I feel the second idea would be the best one, the one involving the new players writing lengthy posts to catch up with current events. It keeps everyone on the same page. It drives me nuts when the plot line is about towards the 2nd gym, and a new character jumps in, while starting off in a completely different location, then where the main story is.
Also, do we have any plans for the first gym leader tying?

The first gym is right past the forest outside of Dolus town. Fortis region gyms are different in that if you lose three times you must release your Pokemon into the wild. This is also the reason for the Fortis region having a large overpopulation of Pokemon who are incredibly powerful. The forest between Dolus town, and the town of the first gym is filled with trainer Pokemon who's trainers had to release them.

In other words, the first gym serves to weed out the strong from the weak immediately, so the gym leader isn't exactly going to be nice, or even fair. Preparation will be key since the gym leader's Pokemon will not be held back to give the challenger any chance.

I'll continue to elaborate on the gym systems with my posts, given that Itigus knows a lot about it, considering he's a resident of the region.

Hello. I know the RP thread says it's open, but I just want to double-check before rudely plopping down a bio thing....

Also, I wanted to know more about Team Ingro and the structure of the government in Fortis. You say that Ingro works in ties with the government, and I was thinking about using that connection as a character basis. But first, I want to know how Ingro is manipulating the government of Ingro. Would it be bribes to government officials or would members of the crime syndicate actually hold positions in the government? And, again, how is the government structured? Would there be different branches? A Congress or Parliament? I was thinking of having a character that is originally from Fortis and grew up in the political atmosphere.

I'm sorry if all this asking for information seems random- I really like your idea of a gaudy, competitive, and corrupt region. I get a cool, smoke-filled Las Vegas casino gambling vibe from it.

Even though I haven't received a reply, I went ahead and wrote out the info for the character. If something doesn't fit in with the AU, call it out and I'll change it. I just wanted to get it written out before I went to bed. It's late where I am so I apologize for any spelling or grammatical mistakes! Also, I want to tell you that, despite what I wrote about her rich background, Merlot will still follow the 3,000 Poke rule.

Name: Merlot Kilstein

Gender:
Female

Age: 19

Appearance: Her hair is wine-red, usually kept in neat, tumbling curls.

Backstory: Merlot grew up comfortably in the Fortis upper class, with servants on her heels and money in constant supply.

You only gave Dreiki 2 hours to answer your questions before you made your character. I'm pretty sure he didn't respond because you didn't give him enough time.

I agree with the option that newcomers should make lengthy posts to catch up to the current plot.

I never said that I was expecting or was entitled to a reply in that short length of time??? And I don't know what I wrote to make you think that? I just wanted to write something before I went to bed because I'm busy today. Doctor's appointments, lunch-ins, and errands. I probably won't be on much until late tonight? I might miss him completely today and so I wanted to get something written down and posted beforehand. And, if it is wrong and not in Dreiki's view of Fortis, than I'll edit it. Editing is quick and I honestly do not mind. I just want to make sure I'm already a part of something before I go back to school this weekend.

I plan to reveal the details through my posts as the RP goes on. It's a sort of thing I tend to do to prevent Power Plays. Seeing as most people here will have their characters born in outside regions, it's only natural that they know just as much as an outsider would. Fortis keeps up a very good image in the public eye, but tends to make the bad things appear under the cover of darkness. Even the International Police hasn't been able to pin anything on Team Ingros as they've tended to do their more public work through fringe gangs.

Most interactions between Team Ingros, and the Fortis government are off the papers. In essence, there is no evidence of them having their hand in the government, but it remains obvious that they are the ones controlling the region behind the scenes. No one really knows exactly what is a government decision, and what is a Team Ingros decision as they are fairly clever when it comes to law making. They aren't the generic team in the sense that they are activists, and terrorists, but rather a secret society pulling the strings to a region they already control. They do have their own bases of operations, and are very prominent in the underground of Fortis, but they're rather good at passing under the nose of the law.

However, since you want to have your character born in the political environment of Fortis I want you to PM me for any further details you might need. You may even be able to help elaborate on the politics of Fortis.

EDIT: I actually meant to reply to your post sooner, but I forgot to hit the 'Post Reply' button before I closed the tab.

Backstory: Merlot grew up comfortably in the Fortis upper class, with servants on her heels and money in constant supply.

Denied until a few changes are made.
1. You cannot have Mimikyu as your first Pokemon. This rule would apply to all Pokemon with a single evolution in their line. The first Pokemon needs to act as a sort of symbol of progress in that it must be able to evolve, and not already be in its most powerful form. Not to mention, Mimikyu is an incredibly powerful Pokemon, and gives a rather unfair advantage right off the bat with its ability.
2. If your character has average intelligence, how are they capable of easily identifying weaknesses in their opponents no matter the format of battle? This trait also seems like a cheap excuse to make power plays, but I'll give you the benefit of the doubt here.
3. There is not enough detail in your backstory for me to believe that you will be able to consistently contribute quality posts to the thread. Part of the reason for the backstory portion of the application is to show me whether or not you can write a compelling character that could interact in interesting ways with the other characters.
4. The martial arts portion of your backstory only really seems to serve as an excuse to say your character is a capable fighter without much effort. I can see this problem being resolved, however, if more detail is added to this portion to make it fit better.

I do have a few suggestions on how to remedy these issues, and get you approved:
In order to solve problems 1, 3, and 4, simply give yourself a fighting type Pokemon such as a Pancham, since you're from the Kalos region it would fit much better.
If you don't want to do that, you could simply replace the Pokemon with whatever one you desire as long as it is within the parameters of the rules.
At the same time, I urge you to pick one specialty to prevent your character from being a Mary Sue. I would personally scrap the hyper battle sense as you haven't really explained anything that alluded to you being able to gain that ability. Considering your father is a martial artist I would personally rewrite the character to follow more qualities towards things such as discipline, honor, and patience. Perhaps in that sense they would have their skills as a martial artist transition over into Pokemon battling.

These are merely suggestions however, as it is your character. However, please do think on how you wish to solve the problems I presented here if you wish to join the RP. Make the necessary edits to your post, and notify me.

Thank you for the approval! And I wanted to try and make a character that could help build the plot rather than one that was just going through the motions. Though, to be honest, I thought that I may have pushed the envelope a little too much in this case. But still, thank you very much! I'll PM you if I have any questions, though, right now, I'll try to see how far I can get in the RP without referring to regional politics or Ingros at all. I want to keep the mystery alive for myself as well.

A quick question, concerning Pokemon Evolution. Would you decide when a correct time would be for a Pokemon to evolve, when it comes to things such as Happiness, or finding the item necessary to evolve it?

Pokemon(Only One): Riolu (Male, NN: Anubis)

Approved. Although I am starting to have gripe with a lot of the RPers applying finding some sort of excuse to have their characters capable of fighting. Either way, I think that Griff can be a fairly interesting character as long as he's played well, and not played without imperfections. I would like to see his rough childhood show its effects in his personality, and perhaps have him develop more as a person. I never really saw any motivation for why Griff wants to go to the Fortis region though. Is it for glory? Regardless, you may feel free to post your starter at any point in time you wish.

To answer your question, however, I won't really decide when your Pokemon evolves, but I only really ask that you put in enough effort to make it justified. Part of making a quality story would be making sure that the characters develop with their Pokemon. If it simply looks as though you're evolving for the sake of getting a leg up, I won't allow it, but if there is a competent progression, and reason for the evolution, you may evolve whenever you choose.

Ry_Burst, I have a bit of a problem with how you somehow attained potions, and other items without any mention of when you shoplifted. Let me stress that it would be rather difficult to shoplift from stores in Dolus town as they are rather aware considering how often people tend to do it.

I am okay with your character being a master thief. I'm also okay with him being a capable fighter. However, I draw the line when these aspects are simply being used to get a leg up on everyone else without much effort put into the detail, and quality of your posts.

You are allowed to keep the watch as you were able to properly explain it. You may even be able to sell it in the next town over.

Please make sure to edit your post so that you either omit the portion in which you gave your character free items, or go into more detail as to how exactly your character was able to attain the items. I would rather you did the former personally as it is a much easier solution. However, please remember in future posts that you must properly describe moments in which you attain items for free.

This is also why I have people keep track of their money, and the items in their bag. It is to make sure someone doesn't suddenly have infinite resources to draw from through magical plot armor. It is up to you as the player to cleverly manage your resources without materializing an easy route to avoid conflict.

Actually, I had a question about the RP endnotes. Do we have to write out the amount of money, Pokemon, and items in the bag after every post, or only if the amount somehow changes (or a new Pokemon is caught/evolves)?

Glad you asked, I was just about to make a post about that. You only need to put it at the end if it changes in some way. I'll be reading through posts carefully, so I'll try to catch if anyone doesn't update it when they should.

...............................worked hard on a character. gets denied.
If you wish to be accepted, please put more detail into your character. Perhaps you did put effort into the character, but if that is the extent of your skill as a writer then this RP is not for you. I am perfectly happy to give you advice, and ideas, but please do not continue to complain about being denied, or I will be forced to call a moderator to the thread, and have you removed.

Okay i will edit my post, and thanks for letting me know, but he did throw the watch away out of anger. It was more of a way to show off his skills early on, and tossing it made him seem somewhat rash.
Also involving Terrance, he isn't a master thief, or the best fighter. He's a good fighter, and a good theif, but isn't the best. The scar on his back is like a reminder, that he isn't the best at everything he does. I also tried to show, how he can easily be caught by someone. (The man catches him and knocks him to the ground) If you feel like im putting too much emphasis on what hes good at and making him seem OP, let me know where i can fix it and i will. Im not trying to make him seem perfect, but show he feels proud if his ability.
