General Fiction Rules

More or less, this is just a starting point for all members who wants to write a piece of fiction. Should be simple to follow and fairly straight forward.

1) When writing chapters for fiction (Doesn't apply as much compared to poetry or such things that aren't as long), make sure each chapter is at least 3/4 to a full page in length in a Word Processing Document. We just don't really want to read a chapter composed of five lines. It really doesn't make the story flow that well.

2) When writing the actual piece of fiction, don't write as one huge block of text. It makes it quite hard to read. It also makes it hard to understand the story. Space out each paragraph. It looks better and will flow smoother.

3) Just as the global rules of Pokécharms ask, we expect posters to write in proper English (no net-speak). We also expect there to be as little grammar mistakes as possible to the best of your ability. For examples of basic grammar principles, see this topic.

4) Only post chapters when they are completely finished. No working on it in a post, then posting it saying that you will add more later. Completely finish it in a Word Processing Document, then post it as one complete chapter.

5) Don't bash someone's work. There is a difference between giving advice and critiquing someone's work to flat out insulting it.

6) This should be obvious, but it does have to be stated. There will be no tolerence for any sort for theft. For more information click here.

New Rule, people. Just because I'm personally starting to get tired of this.

Chapters must be completed before being posted.

I'm sick to my heart of seeing people posting one or two paragraphs and going all "Gotta go will write moar later."

This is not how things should be done.

Write your chapter off the forums, in your spare time. Once you've completed writing a chapter and (hopefully) proofread it - THEN you can post it. Don't write it on the forum itself and just randomly post fragments when you have to get offline.

Regarding Theft

While Art/Sprite/Fiction theft is already covered in the rules, a couple of things seem to need clarifying...

First off, we have a wonderful collection of authors here. It's only natural that people see these awesome ideas/concepts and start getting ideas of their own. Taking inspiration and learning from each other is encouraged. However, there is a fine line between taking inspiration and ripping off someone else's hard work.

Just like artwork and sprites, Fiction of any sort, be it fan-fiction, poetry or an original story are property of the author and therefore should be treated as such. If anyone is found to be claiming someone else's work as their own, the result will be an instant ban. Theft of any sort will not be tolerated here.

Any Authors with concerns or complaints about their works being copied are encouraged to PM the Artwork Board's Moderators, Pixeity (Sami) and myself, or any member of the 'Charms staff team. We'll take appropriate action from there. It has been decided that in theft cases, the author of the work in question has the full right to request offending works be removed or locked.

To clarify: Blatant theft will result in an instant ban.

So there you have it. If anyone has any questions/queries, please feel free to PM me.
