"Ugh, who knew the sun would be this hot..."

It's been a long morning for the weary, self-talking, female traveler. This particular morning of Alola's Poni Island was much hotter than anticipated, and the poor blonde was starting to feel feverish. She had done some scouting of the island a few days prior, and hadn't found any of the clues she came here to find. Not that it really mattered. Interpol had sent her here for a reason and, even with all the information she was debriefed on and being currently on a mission, maybe chilling on the island for a bit wouldn't be such a bad idea. Her Pokemon sure loved it for some reason, so clearly this mission was probably not as serious as it ought to be. Granted, she didn't bother to check Vast Poni Canyon, but Interpol had said they were more concerned about the threat being near the locals, so she didn't worry about it. Plus, the site was used for Alolan trial-goers, and not only has she completed this trial long ago (proof of the Z-Power Ring around her left wrist and the Dragonium-Z in her possession), but she likely thought she was barred from entering its perimeter due to not being a trial-goer.

The blue-eyed woman, her body littered with scars, made her way towards Vast Poni Canyon. She ran her fingers through her short, pixie-cut hair and her other hand touched each of her six variety of PokeBalls on her white-and-black checkered trainer belt keeping up her jean shorts, counting them to make sure they were all there. Her black combat boots crunched through the green, crisp grass and soft, paved path. Why black in weather like this, she didn't know. At least her tank top was a dark green instead of it being any darker. Her brown, floral backpack was starting to destroy her shoulders from carrying it though. She really needed someplace to rest for a while.

What was odd was that her Bluetooth earpiece hadn't received any calls or messages for her. Which was odd. It's been radio silent since she got to Seafolk Village. She decided not to think about it too much. Her cheeks were flushing from the heat and she needed to get out of it pronto.

That's when she was met with the tall expanse of the canyon's sheer cliff faces greeting her, the large formations shedding a bit of shade for her to rest in before she entered Vast Poni Canyon proper.

She decided that's where she'll set up camp for a bit. No local was around anyway, and she was just going to take advantage of the shade.

The young woman walked herself into the canyon's natural path and the wildlife noises from Ancient Poni Path had all but vanished. The only thing that can be heard through the eerie silence was the wind whistling through the crags.

She had a bad feeling about this...

Still, she soldiered on and found a good spot halfway through the shade where it was coolest and she took off her backpack, rolling her shoulders to ease their soreness. "Damn, that was rough." She massaged them a few times before sitting down and looking through her backpack. She had lots of rations she got for herself and her Pokemon this morning, so they were likely to want some lunch. She fixed her now-useless Dynamax Band on her right wrist, trying to get rid of its tightness and the sweat pooling underneath as she made a disgusted curl of her lip. "Ow."

Letting out a heavy sigh, she laid her head back against the cool rock face, hoping she can probably catch some Z's before she got unceremoniously kicked out. Unless they don't do that anymore, but it's been about a decade since she's last been here. Maybe they won't kick her out.

That would be nice.

Name: Natalia Nakamura
Age: 30
Gender: Female
Hometown: Accumula Town, Unova
Trainer Class/Occupation: Ace Trainer, Interpol Agent
Appearance: Natalia is 5'06" (167.6 cm) and weighs 150 lbs (68.0 kg) of mixed lean muscle from casually working out on her journeys and extensive agent training. She's got short blonde hair with longer hair on the top so she can flip it over on the right or left. She used to have long hair but found shorter hair much easier to manage. She's also got light grey eyes. She usually wears a tank top in various colors, jean shorts, and black combat boots in hotter weather; a t-shirt of varying colors, a black jacket (for when it gets chilly or windy), jeans, and black combat boots in warmer weather; and a long-sleeved shirt of varying colors, heavy-duty jeans, and black winter boots in winter weather. She always has a brown backpack that's covered in floral pink and green flowers that holds all of her items. She also has a white and black checkered belt and has scars on her body from training her Pokemon and using her body to block hits. She has a scar running from the middle of her cheek down her neck from a Pokemon's Slash attack and a scar on her stomach from when she attempted to stop a Horn Drill. She has a Z-Power Ring from her time partaking the Alolan Trials about a decade earlier, and a Dynamax Band from when she attempted the Galar Gym Challenge.
Personality: Natalia is well known to be serious about Pokemon and battle, yet friendly enough when someone meets her. She can be pretty generous, but she usually asks for something in return for her help. She's patient enough, but sometimes becomes irritated when her help is taken for granted or when they are just using her. She is curious about people but prefers to do what she wants to do without getting sidetracked. She can be a cynic and a pessimist, usually using self-deprecation as funny humor to low-key get some pity and sympathy. She is secretly a pretty compassionate person but hides it with angry worry. She won't immediately help someone when they are in trouble but prefers to hold back and watch and see the situation before her before jumping in and doing something rash. She calculates if the person can do it themselves or if someone she cares about is in danger. She doesn't much care about herself, as she enjoys the pain inflicted upon her, but she understands that Pokemon attacks shouldn't be trifled with and does what she can to make sure everyone is alive at the end of it, but she will brush it off as "not wanting the death of someone on her conscience rather than actually caring for you". She understands the complexities of the world around her and, due to looking at the negatives so much, believes that only the negative side to some things exist. Also due to this, she finds it harder to trust people and will often mentally blame those who try to be friendly with her for trying to get on her good side.
Backstory: Natalia was born in Accumula Town to a breeder and top coordinator in the Smart Contests in Sinnoh and Hoenn. However, she found the settled life they chose to be rather too quiet and boring. She first did so in Unova, getting the last badge before realizing that life had beckoned her to travel to another region. During these journeys, she went from curious and fun to cynical and serious. A piece of who she was before makes an appearance every once in awhile, but from all the horrible things she's seen, there is no hope to get back the innocence that was robbed from her. She's had her Pokemon taken away and some of them she never saw again. Due to this, she lost all sense of trust and respect in humanity, and the only people she could go back to were her parents and older brother. But she instead used these experiences to fight for justice, but in her own more brutal way. As she was making a name for herself in Johto, she had already collected all the badges from Unova, Hoenn, Kanto, Kalos, and Sinnoh, filled out her medallion in Galar, and got almost all the stamps in Alola, only stopping at Poni Island before she got bored and went off towards other things. After her triumph at Johto, she tried her hand at the Johto Pokemon League, but was easily beaten. Realizing that she needed to get stronger, she spent a good portion of her time alone with her Pokemon and getting a few Pokemon to aid her in her endeavors. She kept trying until she made it to Alola, where the Pokemon League there was laughable compared to all the other ones, but she gave away the Champion status to the current Champion and left. She went to Kanto yet again, trying its league before she was able to end the battle with Champion Lance with a score of 5-6. She lost, but she was literally a Pokemon away from defeating him. She realized that other opportunities were open to her rather than fighting for probably bragging rights as she had no intention to stay settled in one area, she began trying to become an agent of Interpol. It was a difficult couple of years before she was finally admitted as an agent due to her efforts in stopping some poachers with another agent in Sinnoh. While her help wasn't asked, it was still appreciated and they tested her. She passed the tests (some a little less than others) and managed to get in. Natalia then became a member of Interpol by the age of 25 after 4 years of trying to get into that position. Now, she works with Interpol as an agent and has been deployed to several regions in the past 5 years, usually bodyguard duties as her team is quite stacked and are suited for just about any situation.

Nickname: Brutus
Species: Toxapex – [TYPE]Poison[/TYPE][TYPE]Water[/TYPE]
Gender: Male
Defining Features: Brutus has several scars along his tentacles, and his purple fleshy tone is of a more vibrant color. Instead of being the average height of 2'04" (71.1 cm) and an average weight of 32 lbs (14.5 kg), he is 3'00" (91.4 cm) and weighs 48 lbs (21.8 kg).
Personality: Brutus is a very brash and bold Pokemon, taking action that wouldn't exactly be wise in the midst of combat or saying things he really shouldn't be saying. He's a hardass, but he means well and will gladly let himself take the brunt of incoming attacks. He likes to test his endurance and durability this way, even if it might seem a bit reckless. When interacting with others, he tends to be pretty rude and likes to boast about his achievements, but knows when to be quiet when he goes on for too long.
Brief History: As a Mareanie, Brutus was just wandering around, minding his own business in the waters of Alola, preying on nearby Corsola when he had the chance to. He was living the calm life of a Mareanie when his prey was caught by some kind of line. Angry, he rushed up to see his meal battling against a Doublade. He came up when the Corsola called for help, to which the Corsola was shocked at the fact their predator came to "help" instead of a fellow Corsola. As soon as Mareanie was about to attack the Corsola, he was swallowed up into something. Having been caught off guard and left there in stunned awe at what was going on and why everything was so dark, he didn't struggle enough and ended up being caught by a Net Ball. The feeling of a net hugging him into the ball vanished and he was now able to see the outside world. His prey left the area, but the woman who had caught him came to pick him up. Stubborn and difficult to trust at first, Natalia had done what she could to train and grow closer with the Mareanie, to which she affectionately nicknamed Brutus. While he loved the name, he didn't want to admit it. After a few months of being with her from Melemele Island's Route 9 and going through Akala with her, Brutus began putting more and more trust and respect for her, finding her an intimidating force to be reckoned with. Then he wanted to evolve and they headed to Malie City after completing the trials in Ula'Ula Island. To start his evolution, he was pitted against Nanu's Krokorok and beat him with stalling tactics while taking the Earthquake from the Kahuna's desert croc surprisingly well, allowing him to evolve into Toxapex. He has been a primary defensive wall on her team since and hardly leaves her side.
Held Item: Black Sludge - When held by a Poison-Type, it gradually heals instead of gradually damaging the holder. A non-Poison-Type Pokemon takes more damage than when a Poison-Type heals.
Ability: Regenerator - Restores some energy and heals some wounds when switched out.
Moves:
  • Baneful Bunker - [TYPE]Poison[/TYPE] | Status | When used, Toxapex protects himself from any incoming damage. If the opponent makes contact with the Toxapex during Baneful Bunker, the opponent will get Poisoned. Consecutive uses may cause this move to fail and it has increased priority. Damaging Z-Moves will deal 25% of the damage dealt and moves like Feint and Phantom Force will lift the effects of Baneful Bunker. Moves that target all Pokemon and moves that target this Pokemon and their allies cannot be blocked.
  • Scald - [TYPE]Water[/TYPE] | Special | This move has a 30% chance to burn the target and can melt ice.
  • Recover - [TYPE]Normal[/TYPE] | Status | Heals moderate wounds and gives back a decent amount of energy.
  • Sludge Bomb - [TYPE]Poison[/TYPE] | Special | This move has a 30% chance to poison the target and doesn't affect those with Bulletproof.
  • Toxic Spikes - [TYPE]Poison[/TYPE] | Status | This poisons anyone who steps on the purple caltrops or badly poisons if there are two layers of them. They can be used to block off sections from anyone walking.
  • Wide Guard - [TYPE]Rock[/TYPE] | Status | Protects against moves (damaging and status) that target multiple Pokemon, including when allies use them.
  • Whirlpool - [TYPE]Water[/TYPE] | Special | Traps the opponent in a swirling watery vortex for short while, chipping away at their stamina. Unless they are a Ghost-Type. It can also be used to clear whirlpools from waters.
  • Surf - [TYPE]Water[/TYPE] | Special | Creates a huge wave that attacks all Pokemon and deals double damage to Pokemon using Dive. Is used to surf along the water.
  • Iron Defense - [TYPE]Steel[/TYPE] | Status | Hardens their body to be like metal, sharply raising their physical defense.
  • Hex - [TYPE]Ghost[/TYPE] | Special | Deals more damage if the target is afflicted with a status condition.

Nickname: Vishy
Species: Dracovish - [TYPE]Water[/TYPE][TYPE]Dragon[/TYPE]
Gender: Genderless (male pronouns)
Defining Features: Vishy has a contraption hidden behind the crest of his head. It is a simple design with tanks to hold water and a pump that moves the water to his gills. The water will surge faster as Vishy uses Fishious Rend. Due to physical exercise and battles being rather physically intensive, the contraption will lose oxygenated water, so Vishy has to submerge his head in water in order to refill the contraption, which automatically starts the process of pumping water out of the device and obtaining new and fresh water. He also has a few scars on his legs and head. Also, instead of being the average height of 7'07" (231.1 cm) and average weight of 474.0 lbs (215.0 kg), he is 8'02" (248.9 cm) and weighs 499 lbs (226.3 kg)
Personality: Vishy is cute, curious, and happy-go-lucky like a Lillipup, but he can be a bit spoiled and be extremely stubborn. He is a notorious judger of character by first glance and first impressions, and will always refer to that person as the character he judged them as, which could either be accurate or not-so accurate. This will only change when he sees them do something he wouldn't expect to see them doing. Regardless, he loves to fight and thrash his body, with Fishious Rend and Outrage being his favorite attacks. He can be very friendly, but getting to know him more will result in seeing his more cranky side. Granted, he is confused as to how he came to be, but the pump pushing water lackadaisically through the contraption around his head is pushing enough water to help him function, but not enough to really ponder as to what his state actually is. Probably for the best.
Brief History: Natalia was tasked by a crazy scientist lady in Galar to find some fossils for her, specifically a few Fish and Drake Fossils. Not knowing what the lady was going to do with them, she watched in horror as the lady combined a Fish Fossil and a Drake Fossil together, reviving a Dracovish. Natalia caught the creature immediately upon seeing him struggling to breathe, too preoccupied with finding a body of water quickly to catch the scientist who had done this. She released him from the Luxury Ball that held him, sending him into the water and allowing him to breathe. Natalia then went on a tireless journey to find some way to give Vishy water on land without having to put a permanent fish bowl around his head. The tireless way Natalia made sure his every needs were met to make sure he didn't continue suffering made the Dracovish wonder why he was given this treatment in the first place. He was an abomination who shouldn't be alive and here she was, making sure he was comfortable. After fitting a contraption on his head that allowed him to breathe without being too bulky, the Dracovish stayed alongside Natalia. She gladly allowed him to stay with her, not trusting anyone else to take care of Vishy the way she had. Vishy now sees Natalia as a guardian and a fighter, no matter what, and expects that of her, sometimes not even realizing that she has emotional needs that need to be met, as well.
Held Item: Assault Vest - A vest around Dracovish's Drake body, it raises his defenses from ranged elemental damage but prevents him from using any Status moves.
Ability: Strong Jaw - Increases the power of biting moves by 50% (includes Fishious Rend, Psychic Fangs, Ice Fang, and Crunch).
Moves:
  • Fishious Rend - [TYPE]Water[/TYPE] | Physical | If the user is faster than the target or if the target switches when Fishious Rend is used, the base power doubles.
  • Outrage - [TYPE]Dragon[/TYPE] | Physical | Gets locked into rage for a short while. When interrupted by anything, it will immediately end. When it ends at the last moment it should end or is disrupted before the last moment of attack can be achieved, the user will always be Confused.
  • Psychic Fangs - [TYPE]Psychic[/TYPE] | Physical | Removes Light Screen, Reflect, and Aurora Veil on the target's side of the field and then inflicts damage (unless the target is immune or protected from the attack).
  • Crunch - [TYPE]Dark[/TYPE] | Physical | Has a 20% chance to lower the target's physical defense.
  • Iron Head - [TYPE]Steel[/TYPE] | Physical | Has a 30% chance to flinch.
  • Waterfall - [TYPE]Water[/TYPE] | Physical | Has a 20% chance to flinch. Is used to travel up waterfalls.
  • Dive - [TYPE]Water[/TYPE] | Physical | Dives in a body of water and resurfaces to attack. It can dodge most attacks when in the water. Can use this to dive deeper underwater and swim with better efficiency.
  • Ice Fang - [TYPE]Ice[/TYPE] | Physical | Has a 10% chance to freeze and a 10% chance to flinch.
  • Stomping Tantrum - [TYPE]Ground[/TYPE] | Physical | If this Pokemon's last attack failed for whatever reason (except when Protect/Detect/Baneful Bunker was used), then this attack does double the damage.
  • Leech Life - [TYPE]Bug[/TYPE] | Physical | Takes 50% of the damage dealt to heal the user. This will cause damage to the user if the target has Liquid Ooze and will stop working if the Pokemon is affected by Heal Block.

Nickname: Ferras
Species: Ferrothorn - [TYPE]Grass[/TYPE][TYPE]Steel[/TYPE]
Gender: Female
Defining Features: She has a really shiny metal coating from being rubbed with wax recently. Instead of being the average height of 3'03" (99.1 cm) and weight of 242.5 lbs (110.0 kg), she is 2'11" (88.9 cm) and weighs 250.5 lbs (113.6 kg). Yes, she is denser and is an inch shorter than Brutus, which makes her rather salty.
Personality: There is a lot of attitude on this grass pod than a first glance will tell. She likes complaining when she doesn't want to do something (but still does it anyway) and insulting those who get in her way. While she isn't the most likeable Pokemon, she does have her moments where she shines and helps out those by taking hits for them. She doesn't like attacking all that much, but wouldn't mind watching her opponent flounder as she stacks up debuffs after debuffs.
Brief History: A Ferroseed in Natalia's home region of Unova, the two of them have been together for far longer than most anyone on her team. Ferras was caught in Chargestone Cave as Natalia was passing through and Ferras was caught. It took Natalia a while to find a name that suited her new companion and to get over her sassy attitude, but realized that the Ferras was only acting out for attention. She began training and spending more time with the Grass/Steel-Type, and she mellowed out some when she helped defeat Brycen's Beartic in the Icirrus Gym and evolved into Ferrothorn. This spiky Pokemon has seen Natalia lose her other Pokemon (by extension, her friends) due to Team Plasma taking them away when they were still prevalent, and she has stuck by her side tighter than an Octillery with Suction Cups. She is rather distrustful of those around her until she starts to learn more about them and their character, but still not giving them respect unless they do something for Natalia or herself that is honorable. She has never left Natalia's side and owes it to her to keep her safe at all costs.
Held Item: Rocky Helmet - If the target makes contact with the holder, then that Pokemon takes a decent amount of damage. It's damage occurs before it gets stolen or knocked off.
Ability: Iron Barbs - If the target makes contact with the Ferrothorn, then that Pokemon takes a decent amount of damage.
Moves:
  • Spikes - [TYPE]Ground[/TYPE] | Status | Ferrothorn litters spiky caltrops all over the opponent's field. They can also be used to deter people from following her by laying down the spikes in the way of her pursuers.
  • Knock Off - [TYPE]Dark[/TYPE] | Physical | Ferrothorn smashes the item off the target. It can't smash off a Mega Stone, Z-Crystal, or any other special items. They can also use this to knock items out of human hands.
  • Leech Seed - [TYPE]Grass[/TYPE] | Status | Seeds sprout from the user and attach to the target, sapping their energy and giving back the user their energy. They can be destroyed by Rapid Spin. It can be blocked by Heal Block and affected by Liquid Ooze.
  • Gyro Ball - [TYPE]Steel[/TYPE] | Physical | The slower the user is compared to the target, the stronger this move is. Pokemon with Bulletproof are immune to this attack. Paralysis, stat stages, Iron Ball, and abilities that affect Speed also are taken into account. Trick Room and Stall don't affect the power of Gyro Ball.
  • Power Whip - [TYPE]Grass[/TYPE] | Physical | Uses her vine to smash the target.
  • Rock Climb - [TYPE]Normal[/TYPE] | Physical | Has a 20% chance to confuse the target. Can also be used to scale rocky walls with ease.
  • Iron Defense - [TYPE]Steel[/TYPE] | Status | Hardens their body to be like metal, sharply raising their physical defense.
  • Protect - [TYPE]Normal[/TYPE] | Status | Blocks all attacks except Feint and Z-Moves (25% of damage will be dealt), and will lessen with each successive consecutive use.
  • Curse - [TYPE]Ghost[/TYPE] | Status | Raises her physical power and defense but lowers her speed.
  • Flash - [TYPE]Normal[/TYPE] | Status | Flashes a bright light that lowers accuracy of those who look. Can also be used to light up dark areas.

Nickname: Aegis
Species: Aegislash - [TYPE]Steel[/TYPE][TYPE]Ghost[/TYPE]
Gender: Male
Defining Features: He has a large crack in his hilt and his blade has a dark bluish stain on the side. It kind of looks like a birth mark, but it isn't. The cracked hilt was from a battle that got him to evolve from Honedge to Doublade. Instead of being the average height of 5'07" (170.2 cm) and average weight of 116.8 lbs (53.0 kg), he's instead 5'05" (165.1 cm) and weighs 111.2 lbs (50.4 kg).
Personality: Aegis has a grandiose sense of self and importance, and will keep fighting against an opponent, regardless of their being a disadvantage for him or not. He is easily one of the most brutal when it comes to fighting, but will avoid fighting Pokemon who are of their base forms or look "cute" (subjectively to him). He would prefer to fight their parents, if any, or completely ignore them. This is due to him feeling bad about damaging an Igglybuff with Metal Claw when he was a Honedge, so he prefers not to hurt anything that looks round and cute. Despite his stubbornness on opponents and how to conduct his battles, he's very courteous and almost gentlemanly.
Brief History: Natalia caught him on Route 6 during her travels through Kalos. He was floating around, trying to find a tough opponent to defeat and see how strong he is, when Natalia came into view. Despite the type advantage for the Honedge, Natalia won with her Venipede she recently caught on this route. Having been bested, the Honedge began tagging along with Natalia. While Natalia didn't want to catch him at first, the Honedge kept traveling with her as if he were her's. She finally caught him before leaving Route 6, adding him to the party. While he was a little much at times, the two of them grew to respect one another, though the Honedge would give sentiments as to her leaving him behind if he hadn't lost, which confused his large ego. His ego-talk made Natalia laugh (only understanding him through basic ideas and concepts he'd telepathize to her), but found his No Guard rather irritating to train with. During the fight against Ramos' Gogoat in the Coumarine Gym, Honedge had evolved into Doublade and won with his No Guard ability, landing a hit that would have otherwise missed due to its low accuracy. Finding this ability useful and the new form very useful, Natalia refrained from using the Dusk Stone she received soon after the victory and opted to use it to evolve her Doublade into Aegislash when she was traveling through Galar, the novelty of No Guard running out along the way through Alola.
Held Item: Protective Pads - Prevents this Pokemon from being affected by additional effects from attacks. They are worn on the shield and hilt.
Ability: Stance Change - Changes to Shield Forme when they uses King's Shield and changes to Sword Forme when using any attack, changing their stats from defensive to offensive.
Moves:
  • King's Shield - [TYPE]Steel[/TYPE] | Status | Protects the user from any moves except Status moves for that turn and goes from Sword to Shield Formes. Moves, like Feint and Future Sight and Phantom Force can bypass King's Shield, while Z-Moves will only do 25% of the original damage. If the user blocks an attack that would have made contact (even if the user of King's Shield would be immune by it), the attacker's Attack drops. Using King's Shield consecutively lowers its success rate.
  • Swords Dance - [TYPE]Normal[/TYPE] | Status | Increases the user's physical attack sharply with a hypnotic dance.
  • Shadow Claw - [TYPE]Ghost[/TYPE] | Physical | Has an increased critical hit ratio.
  • Close Combat - [TYPE]Fighting[/TYPE] | Physical | Lowers the user's physical and elemental defenses after use.
  • Head Smash - [TYPE]Rock[/TYPE] | Physical | User receives recoil damage equal to half of damage dealt.
  • Retaliate - [TYPE]Normal[/TYPE] | Physical | If a teammate was knocked out, this attack will deal double the damage when used immediately after on the target who last attacked the teammate.
  • Iron Head - [TYPE]Steel[/TYPE] | Physical | Has a 30% chance to flinch.
  • Brick Break - [TYPE]Fighting[/TYPE] | Physical | Smashes the target with enough power to smash tile and it removes Light Screen, Reflect, and Aurora Veil from the opponent's field, but won't if the opponent is immune, protected, or the attack misses.
  • Rock Smash - [TYPE]Fighting[/TYPE] | Physical | Has a 50% chance to lower the target's physical defense. It can also be used to smash rocks.

Nickname: Darma
Species: Galarian Darmanitan - [TYPE]Ice[/TYPE] | [TYPE]Ice[/TYPE][TYPE]Fire[/TYPE]
Gender: Female
Defining Features: Darma has fluffier snow-white fur. Instead of being the average 5'07" (170.2 cm) and weighing 264.6 lbs (120.0 kg), she is 5'11" (180.3 cm) and weighs 286.7 lbs (130.0 kg).
Personality: Darma is just the definition of a sweet cinnamon roll. She is extremely happy and loves to frolic and play with everyone. Even during battle, she finds the thrill of it absolutely freeing and she smiles even wider (which can be construed as a slasher smile if she's not careful). While she is happy-go-lucky, she is rather alert with everything around her and is highly protective of her friends and family, not letting anything befall them. Or at least, trying not to.
Brief History: While Natalia was traveling through the Steamdrift Way of Route 8 in Galar, she met a Galarian Darumaka, who took some of her food and began following her around the place. Originally, she wasn't going to catch any Pokemon on this route, but found the little Ice-Type too adorable to pass up. She thought they were similar to the Fire-Type variant and thought training her and giving her plenty of battle experience would help her evolve. She was, of course, very wrong when she arrived on Route 9, where her brother informed her that this wasn't the case, and the Ice-Type needed an Ice Stone. She found one as she was swimming through Circhester Bay of Route 9, finding something shining out at her as she rode atop the water with her motorized bike. Her Darumaka moved to take the stone, but instantly evolved on accident. Regardless, she was happy with this form, and ended up helping take down Piers and his Grimmsnarl with her new form and her Zen Mode.
Held Item: Leftovers - Hanging around Darma's neck is a necklace with a Sitrus Berry that doesn't seem to disappear when eaten, allowing Darma to regenerate her health in the midst of combat.
Ability: Zen Mode - Upon reaching half of her stamina, Darma will transform into an Ice/Fire-Type and become faster and physically stronger. If Darma gets healed and her stamina reaches above the threshold, she will turn back to her Standard Mode. Role Play, Gastro Acid, Worry Seed, Simple Beam, and Entrainment fail against this Pokemon, as does Skill Swap. Trace, Power of Alchemy, and Receiver can't copy this Ability and it can't be replaced by Mummy. Transforming into this Pokemon doesn't change forms.
Moves:
  • Belly Drum - [TYPE]Normal[/TYPE] | Status | Drops stamina down to half and injuring itself, but maxes out her physical attack.
  • Earthquake - [TYPE]Ground[/TYPE] | Physical | Does double damage to Pokemon using Dig and does half damage in the presence of Grassy Terrain. Attacks everyone around her.
  • Icicle Crash - [TYPE]Ice[/TYPE] | Physical | Has a 30% chance of causing flinch.
  • Fire Fang - [TYPE]Fire[/TYPE] | Physical | Has a 10% chance to burn and a 10% chance to flinch.
  • Superpower - [TYPE]Fighting[/TYPE] | Physical | Lowers the user's physical attack and defense.
  • Thrash - [TYPE]Normal[/TYPE] | Physical | Locks the user in a violent struggling rage as they target random Pokemon and deal as much damage as they can. It is disrupted due to missing or preventing it from continuing, and the user will get confused after the move finishes due to exhaustion.
  • Flare Blitz - [TYPE]Fire[/TYPE] | Physical | Thaws the user and target from being frozen and deals recoil of 1/3 of damage dealt and has a 10% chance to burn.
  • Stone Edge - [TYPE]Rock[/TYPE] | Physical | Has increased critical hit ratio.
  • Iron Head - [TYPE]Steel[/TYPE] | Physical | Has a 30% chance to flinch.
  • Lash Out - [TYPE]Dark[/TYPE] | Physical | If the user's battling capabilities are lowered when this move is used, the power of this attack is doubled.

Nickname: Kiriki
Species: Bisharp – [TYPE]Dark[/TYPE][TYPE]Steel[/TYPE]
Gender: Female
Defining Features: Kiriki has many cuts in her blades, but they are all waxed and honed to be shiny and sharp. Instead of being the average 5'03" (160.0 cm) and weighing 154.3 lbs (70.0 kg), she is 5'08" (172.7 cm) and weighs 172.4 lbs (78.2 kg).
Personality: Kiriki is the odd Pokemon compared to the rest of the her species. Instead of being the ring leader, she wanted to stop what her species was doing. Doing this was really brave, but her bravery bordered on stupidity when she tried taking on fights to save those who were just lost causes. Not caring who she was up against, Kiriki did her best to help anyone, even if she didn't have the skillset to help them. Regardless, she also has a very high sense of morality and will feel like she is slighting someone if she were to ignore their pleas for help. This would mean she would get caught in the crossfires of any attack meant for them, but she doesn't care. While she may still hold on due to her large affection for her trainer, she isn't a super creature, and she tends to forget this.
Brief History: Kiriki was a Pawniard on Unova's Route 9, where she was busy trying to protect her band of Pawniards from attacking a Rufflet. The band of Pawniard attacked her instead when Natalia showed up and used her Ferrothorn to break up the fight, protecting Kiriki and the Rufflet. Amazed at her strength, the lone Pawniard wanted to join her team. However, she had to think on it. Natalia noticed the Pawniard's willingness to come with, and offered to fight against her reigning Bisharp and then her to capture her fairly. Agreeing, Natalia was led to the Bisharp who ruled over Kiriki and her peers and the two fought. Natalia was victorious, but Kiriki felt like she was doing something wrong by not helping her commander. Before the last blow could be dealt, Kiriki intercepted the attack, stopping it short and amazing both Natalia and the Bisharp. After a bit of scolding from the Bisharp, Kiriki was told to go with Natalia, so she may learn how to listen and do what she was told. While it was a cold remark, Kiriki thought there was some relief in her commander's eyes. She then decided to go with Natalia, choosing her as her new commander. After lots of training through Victory Road and then challenging Shauntal at Unova's Pokemon League, Kiriki evolved into Bisharp after she beat a weakened Chandelure, and she actually followed Natalia's orders for once unlike the majority of the time the two have been training together. Now, Kiriki puts her guard duty for use whenever Natalia gets sent to protect someone.
Held Item: Steelium-Z - A gray rhomboidal Z-Crystal is embedded within an arm band around her right wrist. When Z-Power builds, it allows her to change Iron Head and Metal Burst into Corkscrew Crash. Can only use it once per battle and the attack deals 25% of its actual damage when the Pokemon is protecting themselves from the attack.
Ability: Defiant - Whenever this Pokemon's battling capabilities are lowered by the opponent (not by the user themselves or an ally), the defiant nature of the Pokemon makes them physically stronger.
Moves:
  • Iron Head - [TYPE]Steel[/TYPE] | Physical | Has 30% chance to flinch.
  • Metal Burst - [TYPE]Steel[/TYPE] | Physical | Returns damage dealt by last foe's attack by 1.5 times, but does not have increased priority.
  • Night Slash - [TYPE]Dark[/TYPE] | Physical | Has increased critical hit ratio.
  • Swords Dance - [TYPE]Normal[/TYPE] | Status | Sharply increases physical attack due to hypnotic dance.
  • Brick Break - [TYPE]Fighting[/TYPE] | Physical | Smashes the target with enough power to smash tile and it removes Light Screen, Reflect, and Aurora Veil from the opponent's field, but won't if the opponent is immune, protected, or the attack misses.
  • Aerial Ace - [TYPE]Flying[/TYPE] | Physical | Is very difficult to dodge the attack.
  • X-Scissor - [TYPE]Bug[/TYPE] | Physical | Slashes the opponent with crossed Bug-Type aura coming from her blades.
  • Screech - [TYPE]Normal[/TYPE] | Status | Harshly lowers the target's physical defense.
  • Thunder Wave - [TYPE]Electric[/TYPE] | Status | Releases a weak jolt of electricity that locks joints and paralyzes.
  • Stone Edge - [TYPE]Rock[/TYPE] | Physical | has an increased critical hit ratio.

"We made some good progress today. Great job, Mo-o!"

The afternoon sun was up high over the heads of the young, energetic aspiring Dragon Trainer, and his hulking, scaly partner. The latter's scales rattled joyfully as the young man petted his partner's neck, his black hair and pony tail drifting gently in the wind along with his traditional Alolan scale garb. He had been coming to the Vast Poni Canyon to train with his team since he first learned about Pokémon from his father, back when Mo-o was only a tiny Jangmo-o, playful and spunky. The Dragon/Fighting type had not changed much since then, perhaps having a bit more swagger, but Koa himself had gone through a lot. His goal, to become the official Trial Captain for the Dragon-type trial, was one he chased fervently, and to reach it, he'd have to become stronger. That meant a strict training regimen for both him and his team, on the highest and deepest points of the Canyon, which he knew how to navigate with ease. The grind was constant, but Koa was not disheartened in the slightest.

The young man, with his partner, began his path down the Canyon's cliffs and crevices carefully, with the precision of any native who takes to this area for intensive training. He wanted to take a good rest with his team, but other thoughts clouded his mind as he progressed further. The memories of a mystery he had encovered recently: mysterious boxes that appeared around the area recently, Pokémon becoming exhausted after interacting with them, and people who go out of the cave entrance but don't come out... why was all of this happening? Koa had been surveying these events recently over the last two months, trying to figure out what was going on. The Totem Kommo-o also seemed disturbed, which the young man had confirmed by himself, one of the most worrying facts about the situation. Koa had also been recently coming across a mysterious foreigner at Seafolk, only seeing her from afar on a few occasions. He didn't want to make any connections, but she was certainly a person of relative interest.

"Everythin' okay, buddy? Did ya sniff another box?"

As Koa and Mo-o made their way down to the lower levels, the large Kommo-o sniffed the air, and then looked into his Trainer's eyes, rattling his tail in a specific way that Koa understood as a sign of danger, or that something was out of place. Following his partner's lead, the young man continued his trek, until he reached the place where Trainers usually come to rest. It didn't take long until he noticed Natalia's presence. Alerted by this, but not in a negative way, Koa made his first attempt in weeks to talk to the mysterious foreigner. His country bumpkin-like tone vanished in the wake of formal speech.

"Hey there, miss. I believe you are not from around here, are you? Can I help you with anything?"

Natalia was busy trying to cool off as the sweat formed at her hairline in little beads. She can faintly feel the ground tremor and she cracked an eye open towards Vast Poni Canyon. Wait... He seemed familiar.

Well, how can anyone forget someone who wore a get-up like that? Not to be rude, but it was obviously incredibly striking in figure; hard to forget. She peered over at the Kommo-o and the young man with interest. Her eyes lazily drooping from the exhaustion. She wiped away the sweat from her forehead with her forearm before pulling up her legs so she can rest her arms on her knees while leaning forward. From what she can tell, the Kommo-o looked incredibly formidable. Large, strong, tough, imposing. Best not to get into a fight with this young man. But he seemed polite enough, if not a bit eccentric in his clothing choices. Even though she's been in Alola a grand total of two times, she hasn't seen a lot of people wear clothes like that or traditional garb outside of festivals.

From his words, Natalia weakly smiled and breathily chuckled to herself. "Ah, yes, help." She said it like she weren't asking for it. Almost like the word was a joke and the sarcasm was pretty imminent. She changed topics quickly, not wanting to remind herself that she's got a medical issue. "I've seen you around Seafolk Village a few times. I'm certain I jump out like a beacon with how pale I am, too. I'm certain you have seen me noseying around, so yeah. Came here about a decade ago to do the trials and I thought I'd never come back here again from how brutal the sun was." She glared up at the sky as if cursing her circumstances and the weather. "Coincidentally, I'm here now. Just trying to pass off a heat stroke to the mountain. Well, you don't need a diatribe from me." She waved her hand nonchalantly.

That's when she perked her head up as if remembering something, and then chuckled to herself again and looked back up at Koa. "I'm Natalia. Sorry, forgot to introduce myself. Honestly, thought you were going to shoo me away, but I guess a lot has changed in twelve years, has it?" She shook her head to dispel the sentimentality and raised an eyebrow up at him, as if something just occurred to her. "Oh, and you don't have to be formal with me. I'm the last person who cares about formalities such as that, unless I'm making sure to keep up appearances. Here, if you want, I was about to have lunch. You look hungry and I have other questions I'd like to get into after I got something in my gullet. And... Maybe if you have some questions, I can answer them, too. Oh... and uh... If you've got a towel or something cold, that would be excellent. Here, might as well not make your Kommo-o lonely."

Natalia pulled off a Luxury Ball from her belt. In a flash of yellow, a large dinosaurian-fish hybrid appeared before them. The lower half of the body was green with red stripes and two rows of spikes leading up to the fish head at the end of the tail. It looked like the two halves were cut in half and unceremoniously stuck together. The creature sat down roughly, the eyes cloudy as the contraption attached under the large crest pumped fresh water into their gills. The fins hung uselessly as the creature's mighty jaws snapped unsurely.

They looked confused.

Natalia whistled and the water can be heard pumping a little faster as the eyes regained a small portion of clarity and he turned his head to see his master sitting there. She didn't look okay.

As if it would help, the Dracovish got up and lumbered over to her, all eight-feet-two-inches of him. He rested his cold fins on her head and petted her like she would do to him. Natalia just laughed at the absurdity of her Pokemon and shook her head. "This is Vishy, a fossilized Pokemon called Dracovish I got from Galar. He wasn't supposed to be alive, but I saved him."

The Dracovish tilted his head curiously at the new human and Pokemon. He's fought Kommo-o before, so the Dragon/Fighting-Type was familiar. There was a bubbling growl which sounded more like a purr as the creature watched Koa and Mo-o with a blank stare. It was unknown whether this Dracovish were going to charge and bite or sit there and be docile. But with his fins petting Natalia and cooling her off, it was safe to assume this creature was actually incredibly docile.

Koa's eyes widened at the foreigner's straightforwardness, and even her acknowledgement of his formality. He scratched the back of his head, somewhat confused as to how to respond to Natalia, a confusion which the Kommo-o also shared, letting out a tired growl. He had been seeing this woman around the village and he certainly had questions... could she perhaps know something about the incident? He also took a glimpse of her Z-Ring, before glancing at his own, resting on his left wrist. After gathering his thoughts, the young man took a deep breath.

"O-Oh... well, that's a relief, I guess. I've been seein' ya 'round Seafolk too, but I didn't say anythin', so it's convenient that I found ya here. My name is Koa Ka'uhane... oh, sorry. Formalities again. Just call me Koa. And this here is Mo-o." The Dragon/Fighting type rattled his tail, a red band waving on it, as a sign of approval in regards to Natalia. "So it's not yer first time here? Figures. That's a nice Z-Ring ya got there, yeah. And... what's that other band? Anyway, no, I wasn't gonna tell ya to leave. I come here to train all the time, so as a local, I don't mind ya bein' here. Then again, we can't just keep ourselves tucked away from the rest of the world, can we?"

The brief pause told a story. Koa's ideals were expressed in a single sentence, and his facial expression was also showing some concern on this regard. He cleared his throat and got back to Natalia. "Well, if ya say so. I guess we can chat for a bit, why not? And we're hungry after all, yeah. I could answer some questions, sure... and I have some of my own. But I don't have much stuff on me right now..." The young man rummaged through the small bag strapped around his shoulder, before producing a small flask. "I don't have a towel, but... I do have some water, if ya want."

The Kommo-o then became startled as Natalia threw the Luxury Ball, revealing the mishmashed creature that then began to roam around. Mo-o cautiously sniffed the air near Vishy, his tail swaying with curiosity, before something came over him, as the Dragon/Fighting type roared with happiness, circling the Dracovish with a happy jingle on his scales. Koa chuckled slightly at the sight, despite being largely confused at the strange Pokémon.

"Please excuse Mo-o, somethin' must've caught his eye... wait, did ya say fossilized? Are there other dragons that stem from fossils? How remarkable!" The young Trainer's eyes lit up with enthusiasm as he took a closer look at the Dragon/Water type. "I went through plenty of trouble with my family when I had to explain to them how reviving Chomper worked... here, have a look!"

Koa threw out an Ultra Ball, and out of the swirling energy leapt a small Tyrunt, with black sunglasses resting over his snout. "RUUUUNT!", he roared, as he anxiously rubbed against Koa's leg before running off to take a closer look at Natalia. Koa was alarmed at first, holding out his hand to call out for Chomper, but he then let it fall, as the Dragon/Rock type was not causing a ruckus for now. "Y-Yep, that's Chomper..."

Their confusion would have made Natalia laugh if she were feeling better. She just smiled at them and caught him looking at her bands. Hearing his country bumpkin accent was actually kind of cute. She's heard it before, but it was different hearing it from someone she's actually talking to for more than just information.

So, his name was Koa, and his Kommo-o was named... Mo-o... Originality at its finest.

Granted, she was no better, either.

She waved lazily at Mo-o as he waved his tail at her, finding the Dragon/Fighting-Type adorable. She waited until he was done speaking, but looked up at him with a furrowed brow of interest and confusion when he said the last sentence, his face looking concerned. So, he didn't seem very traditional in his views, was he?

Ideals didn't matter to Natalia. It was the truth that mattered to her. Ideals only worked if those people have a goal and a plan to get there. For her, she might as well be a leaf on the breeze. She regarded his sentiment with a nod before answering his questions, ignoring the Dracovish's petting and messing up her hair. "Heh, sounds like you were hoping on giving me a tour. This other band is a Dynamax Band from Galar. Though, it's kind of useless when there are no Power Spots. I always forget to take the darn thing off." She gave Koa an amused smirk and narrowed her eyes at him playfully. "And that's good that you won't shoo me away. Because if you tried, I won't leave anyway."

On the topic afterwards, she chuckled at his odd nervousness or hesitance to stay. Or whatever it was. He seemed like he was weirded out, and she wouldn't blame him. A thirty-year-old woman whose got markings of battles all over her skin looked like she's been through the fiery pits of hell and was asking for some questions. Natalia will take the flask later, as she had a Dracovish currently petting her head. "Thank you for the water. I'll take it in a second. Vishy, meet our new friends." She cooed towards her Water/Dragon-Type and he stopped petting her head with his cold-ass fins and stared at Mo-o curiously.

Vishy sniffed the air around Kommo-o. Even though he's already battled a Kommo-o before, each Pokemon had their own unique scent. Vishy let loose a bubbling growl-like purr and chased Mo-o in a circle, its jaws open wide in a smile as it lumbered after the dragon. The jingling scales were something he'd never played with and he stared at Mo-o's tail as if it were a ball of yarn. Curious and playful. He then tried tapping it with his fin, hoping to hear it jangle again.

Natalia chuckled at Koa's enthusiasm, now taking the water so she can drink a sip. She felt a little better, thankfully. She nodded at his question and chuckled. "Mo-o is fine. He can be a Lillipup. And yup, Dracovish and Dracozolt from Galar. The red and green half is the Dragon-Typed fossil part, and it can be combined with an Electric-Typed fossil, too. However, they largely suffer after they've been combined and revived like that since it's an affront to nature. But Vishy has been doing pretty good." On the subject of his Chomper, she watched as he released a Tyrunt wearing shades from an Ultra Ball.

Her face broke into a huge grin and she stared at him adoringly. "Awwwww, he's so cute." She watched the Tyrunt run over to her and she held out her hand for the Tyrunt to smell before she tried petting him at the top of his head. "He's so adorable. You remind me of the Gible and Dreepy when they were as young as you were. But they're all big and strong now." She didn't mean to talk to the Tyrunt as if he were a toddler, but it just kind of came out. The tough, badass front she had just completely melted when meeting a baby Pokemon and she immediately became quite motherly. Even her tone changed from conversational and maybe slightly bored to a soft, smooth tone.

She fished out something from her bag. A treat for primarily carnivorous Pokemon due to the fruit being rich in iron. She held it out for the Tyrunt to gobble up, careful not to get her fingers in the way of his bite if he so chose to eat. "Hm, I might have to bring out my other friends if this keeps up. Well, maybe once Vishy calms down." Natalia chuckled and looked back to see her Water/Dragon-Type trying to test other scales on Mo-o's body to see how they clang and if they all do that. Which was kind of cute seeing such a goofy Pokemon pawing at the scales like a needy Growlithe.

"Well, as a local, it would be part of my responsibility to guide anyone who's lo-- a Dyna-what now? What's a Power Spot? U-Uh, in any case, no, ya have a right to see the natural beauty of this land as long as ya don't have any bad intentions. Shooin' ya away would be a waste of potential."

Koa did not seem to be particularly phased by Natalia's appearance. Yes, the scars were intriguing, but he himself had been in rough scraps with the environment before. He hadn't been attacked by Pokémon nearly as much, of course, but the scar on his eyebrow indicated at least some similarities with Natalia's scrappy nature. The young man was more curious about what the foreigner said than her appearance. Koa took a seat near Natalia as they observed their Pokémon playing, as well as little Chomper still displaying curiosity about the woman.

"Mo-o likes other dragons. He can smell 'em, which is good, 'cause I had no idea that thing was a dragon. So there's two of those in Galar? I've never been there, so I've never seen 'em. I have no idea why it'd be a good idea to combine two types of fossils, but as long as yer friend is fine, I guess it's okay...?" The aspiring trial captain seemed confused at the notion, trying to wrap his head around it. "Chomper was only one type of fossil, so... this science stuff is weird. I thought I understood it... but hey, explainin' this to my parents was way more difficult."

Mo-o shook his tail to make a pleasant sound for Vishy, almost like a Soothe Bell. The Dragon / Fighting type seemed pleased by this, as he circled the living fossil, inspecting its shape and cold fins. "Heh, looks like they're gettin' along! Nice. Actually, I did have a Gible, but he's a Gabite now. I've never heard of Dreepy, though. Is that one from Galar too?" The little Tyrunt took notice of Natalia's treat, and upon giving it a lick, he gave it a bite, looking ecstatic from the moment the meal hit his mouth. He gave a few squeals as his shades wobbled over his face, almost falling, before returning to Koa, who patted his head. "If yer gonna take out all yer friends, I should do that too, right?"

In a patient motion, the young Trainer carefully let out his partners, one by one, revealing an Alolan Exeggutor, towering over Mo-o and Vishy, and a somewhat cynical Gabite, who looked around the area before noticing Natalia and showing a snarl, which surprised Koa. "Oh, that's just Rebel. He's a bit of a rascal, but he'll come around to likin' ya. Stretchy doesn't have that problem, I'd say."

Natalia snorted as Koa interrupted his own talk with a question of what Power Spots were. She wasn't going to explain, but it was funny seeing how curious he was. Though, she was glad he wouldn't shoo her away. Maybe people here were a lot nicer than what she was used to. Seeing her Vishy get along with Mo-o was adorable and she was now not worried about Vishy getting into trouble. She nodded when he asked there were two kinds of Draco-whatevers in Galar. It was obvious he's never been to Galar, given that they kind of tell anyone about Dynamaxing and Power Spots when they first arrive since it was so ingrained in their culture. She will however, explain a bit about Vishy's history later, as what that woman did was not okay.

Though, having to tell his parents about a Pokemon revived from a fossil was hilarious. Did he have strict parents?

Vishy's eyes would widen if he had eyelids. He stared at the tail with such awe, his fins flapping uselessly as he wanted to hear it jingle again. He was just so absorbed into it, he forgot everything else existed. He ignored whatever Mo-o was doing, finding the tail so pretty. The tail portion of his "neck" wiggled as if he were trying to wag his tail without making himself dizzy, and he stomped his feet happily, making bubbling purrs.

Natalia looked at Koa when he started talking again, nodding when he asked if Dreepy were from Galar, too. Natalia was lucky Chomper didn't bite her fingers. She gave Chomper an adoring smile at his adorable squeals. "You're just too precious." She said to the Tyrunt before he ran off back to Koa. She looked up when Koa mentioned taking out his Pokemon, and she looked immediately interested. She looked up to see a huge Exeggutor, lightly chuckling at his immense height and her mouth slightly agape with awe.

She then looked down to see a Gabite, who snarled at her. She gave him a challenging smirk, her eyes daring as if she were testing the Gabite's temper or asserting her dominance. However, that faded when he said 'Stretchy'. She snorted again, hiding her smile with the back of her hand. "Stretchy... Granted, my naming schemes aren't exactly the greatest either." She had such amusement in her eyes, but then that sternness and challenge returned when she looked at Rebel. "I used to wrestle my Garchomp when he was just a Gabite, Rebel. Don't think I won't do the same to you if you try anything with me."

She chuckled to herself, keeping an amused grin as her eyes didn't leave Rebel. She eventually had to look away, but she had that cocky grin before she looked away. She still wasn't keeping herself closed off or tensed, so she felt no worry or fear about Rebel, being the practical embodiment of courage and confidence.

Natalia pulled out three PokeBalls and threw them out. From a Dive Ball came out a Toxapex. The Poison/Water-Type stretched his tentacles and looked about lazily. That was until he realized there was a new human and four new Pokemon. The Toxapex saw the Gabite as a wonderful rival and he sidled up to him with that cheeky smirk on his face, his tentacles parted so the two can see each other. He greeted the Gabite, probably giving a 'hey, there'. This Toxapex has scars lining across his tentacles, the purple color of his body looking a bit more vibrant in saturation. He was a bit bigger than normal Toxapex.

From a Quick Ball came out a Ferrothorn. The Grass/Steel-Type lumbered and groaned, tilting her large pod to the side in thought. She was smaller than most Ferrothorn. Her metal portions looked like they've been waxed and buffed recently, making her look shinier. The Ferrothorn glared at the Toxapex, not wanting to be social until she saw the little Chomper. Making an adoring buzz, the Ferrothorn sat beside Natalia, her spikes digging into the ground on the bottom and talking to the little Chomper in probably baby talk in PokeSpeak.

From a Dusk Ball came a Bisharp. The Dark/Steel-Type looked at everyone curiously before walking up to Stretchy with confusion. She's never seen a tall Exeggutor before. The blades on her body looked scratched up and nicked but, like the Ferrothorn's metal bits, her metal was also waxed and buffed recently. She was a little taller than most Bisharp and, despite what their species were known for, she seemed incredibly docile and sweet.

With each one, Natalia pointed to and introduced them. "That Toxapex is Brutus. He has a habit of boasting and goading for others to hit him, so don't worry too much about that. He can take it, if his bulk wasn't obvious. This cutie Ferrothorn is Ferras. She's incredibly sassy though, so compliments are usually best when talking to her. And that righteous Bisharp is Kiriki. For a second, I thought a righteous Bisharp was an oxymoron, but here we are. She's one of the nicer Pokemon I have. I have two others, but my Aegislash would think he's up against a foe if he sees Stretchy and Mo-o and I have a Galarian Darmanitan. Though, she's an Ice-Type and considering all your Pokemon are weak to Ice, it's safer to just not have her out." She whistled a sharp tune and her Pokemon immediately stopped what they were doing to look at her. Well, except Vishy. He kept staring at the tail.

She pulled out food portioned out in rations and gave each one something to eat. Ferras had her food set in front of her and she scooped it up with her mouth, while Kiriki and Toxapex politely took theirs in their hands and ate. Vishy was thrown a treat and, despite being distracted, nabbed it and swallowed it whole before going back to Mo-o's tail, following wherever Mo-o went. Then Natalia pulled out her own food and ate her sandwich. She was starting to look better. "If Brutus becomes too much, I can return him. I need to feed Aegis and Darma too, but I can do that in a bit. Maybe."

"Anyway," she looked back to Koa. "Any questions before we move on to my question?"

"I named Mo-o and Stretchy when I was a kid. Rebel and Chomper came a little later. I guess those things change with time, eh?" Koa seemed a bit embarrassed about his naming schemes, but the Pokémon seemed happy, so there wasn't much of an issue in the long run.

Rebel was surprised by Natalia's defiance in the face of his perceived fierceness, and crossed his arms, snarling in a disappointed, yet arrogant manner, before the Toxapex appeared. The Gabite took an interest in the Poison/Water type, pointing at Brutus' spines with his claw, but there was a bit of hesitance uncharacteristic of the "tough guy" act he tried to put on. That irritated the Dragon/Ground type, and the rivalry was cemented.

Chomper took delight in the appearance of the Ferrothorn, and immediately tried to chew on its spikes before chickening out. Instead, the Tyrunt circled around the Grass/Steel type with curiosity, letting out excited yelps. Ferras was a kind of Pokémon Chomper had never come across before, and his childish demeanor was quite evident.

The Bisharp would soon notice the Exeggutor's neck bending slowly to have his front head meet her own, and with a soft, happy roar, Stretchy gave a careful step before her. His tail head could also be heard tweeting, which surprised his top heads, as they carefully took a look at the berry tied to the base of their neck, hoping that the tail head hadn't eaten it already.

"Wait... a Galarian what? Dar...manitan? I've never heard o' that one, no sir. Maybe you can take him out later, why not? Just... not while everyone else would get a cold just from bein' near the thing, thanks. There's more to dragons than just Dragon types, but I've still got a lot to learn 'bout that..." Koa seemed happy about that, discovering new species he had never seen, learning about places he had never visited. It was quite a wonderful thing, learning about the world! Was the key to his advancement, his goal of marrying tradition and modernity, to visit other regions and take notes?

However, the aspiring trial captain's demeanor soon changed as Natalia reminded him of the main purpose of their conversation. He took a deep breath, perhaps remembering something that stressed him? "I... feel like we might end up talkin' 'bout the same thing anyway. How 'bout you start, Natalia?"

Natalia waved a nonchalant hand at him and shook her head. "Oh, don't worry about the naming schemes. I'm older and I'm far worse." Natalia found it interesting that the Gabite was actually disappointed that she wasn't scared of him. After meeting near death experiences, a simple Pokemon doesn't scare her, just makes her cautious. She liked that her Toxapex was at least being taken interest of, but she was worried the Poison/Water-Type would get a bit arrogant.

Brutus saw the hesitance in Rebel's movements as he pointed to his spikes. Brutus just smiled wide, chortling at the Rebel's irritation at his own hesitance. Probably to cement it even further, he went to pat Rebel's head with the underside of a tentacle, thankfully free from the toxicity and the spines. Despite how small Brutus was compared to Rebel, Brutus held no fear and even said something to the effect of 'don't worry, you're like a little Lillipup with how cute you are' in a teasing tone.

Ferras cooed at the adorable Tyrunt, watching the little Chomper chewing on her spikes. Ferras pulled up her spiny pod and looked a little disgusted at the slobber and put it near Natalia, giving her a disgruntled voice. Natalia chuckled, wiping away the slobber and Ferras went back to relaxation and giggling at the Tyrunt circling around her. If she weren't covered in spikes, she would cuddle the little fossil Pokemon. That was when she got an idea and lowered one of her vines to look like a seat, so she can hopefully have Chomper hop on and she can swing him.

Kiriki's eyes widened as Stretchy soon bent down to see the Bisharp closer. With a cute wave, Kiriki greeted the creature. Kiriki looked over at the same time as Stretchy's top heads heard the whistling. Kiriki tilted her head in confusion and maybe got a little too curious with her questions on how his whole.... situation worked. She found it would probably be a little annoying to have a mind of its own attached somewhere else where they can't do anything about it.

Vishy followed Mo-o's tail with his head, looking like he was going to pounce before immediately sitting down with a thump. With surprising flexibility, the Dracovish laid his head on the ground, his energy having lessened as his eyes became cloudy. His water contraption still worked though and there were no odd noises, so it was likely that Vishy was just tired and working on digesting the food he just ate.

Natalia snickered at Koa's lack of knowledge. At least he was okay with it and he seemed really interested and curious as to who these Pokemon are. "Hey, if you want, after we're done here, how about we go somewhere? You'll get your experience and maybe you can use the information for your goal here. Whatever that is." She didn't know what goal, but she wondered if it had anything to do with being a Trial Captain, given how his team was filled with Dragon-Types and it seemed he focused his sights on Vast Poni Canyon more often.

Still, he just seemed like some type specialist to her at the moment. She noticed that he took a deep breath and he wanted to get a feel for what this was all about, but figured it would be the same thing. Natalia stretched her arms and laid her hands behind her head, resting against the rough cliff face, her gaze skyward. Her voice was very matter-of-fact, as if this were a briefing. "Well, Interpol has told me to come to Alola after I gave them some information of what's been happening in Johto and Kanto. The last couple of months, strange people made their move off the dock of Johto, used a Rapidash to carry their boxes, and used a Steelix with a carrier to transport themselves from Johto's Olivine City to an unoccupied space in Kanto between Saffron City and Lavender Town. There was then an odd oil factory being made that caused a surge of Koffing. New people came to Kanto and entered this area, but weren't seen leaving. There was an odd man who went to Saffron City's Silph Co. to ask for the land before they did all that digging and it's been a part of the news for a while. However, as soon as they get what they wanted, the factory was taken down and agents saw a boat leaving for Alola. We have no idea where they are, all we know is that they are in Alola somewhere and I have a sneaking suspicion they are on this island. There have been more police walking around here, too. Interpol shares the same sentiment." Natalia sighed heavily and shook her head in disdain. "However, I checked this entire island except Vast Poni Canyon, thinking that maybe they are hiding in plain sight like I thought. Apparently, that isn't the case." She looked to Koa.

"So, anything strange happening here? Interpol has reason to think that they are groups they've heard about before, but they can't be too sure since it's been years since they've been dealt with."

"Goin'... somewhere?" Koa thought about it for a moment. He had only just met Natalia, yes, but he had also never considered travelling outside of Alola. There was so much he didn't know, so many Pokémon in the other regions he was yet to meet. Perhaps, if he got to connect with this person, there could be much to gain from this! "U-Uh... I'll think 'bout it. That sounds complicated, but maybe it can be cool?"

The aspiring Dragon specialist listened intently to Natalia's explanation. It was a shock to hear that she worked with Interpol, but as she continued her story, some pieces started to fall into place. The puzzled look in Koa's face turned to one of dread as he recalled events that seemed to cause him a great deal of concern. Mo-o's tailed rattled with a chime of warning, almost like an alarm, sensing his partner's worries. Naturally, the Kommo-o was well aware of the events too.

"Ooooh... oh, my stars. Boxes? Somethin' odd has indeed been goin' on over the last... two months or so. These boxes just started showin' up all over the place. They've got some weird initials... "CS", no idea what that means. And for whatever reason, the Pokémon don't like 'em, and I don't either. What's stranger than that though, is that one time, I saw a Granbull comin' in from the Paths to feed its offspring, and it kicked one of the crates, but nothin' happened to it. Far from it, the Granbull seemed exhausted after contact with the darn thing."

Koa made a pause. Mo-o patted Vishy's head to then sneak towards his Trainer, attempting to comfort him. Natalia could notice great worry in his snarls, if his face wasn't enough to tell. Koa gently scratched the underside of his partner''s chin, appreciating the gesture before resuming his account.

"Not just that. We've seen some people go into the caves and just... not come back. We've sat outside the entrances for HOURS just to see if they do, but not a single one. And we've also caught weird noises too. I... I know I'm not all that familiar with Pokémon from other regions, but it was like a high-pitched Mudsdale's whinnyin', and also somethin' similar to a Salazzle slinkin' its tail on the floor, but a lot more intense. But... what worries me most of all, is that Mo-o' s kin seem agitated. The Hakamo-o around the area have gotten irritable, even more than usual, and even worse, the Totem seems upset too. I don't know why-- perhaps it knows as much as we do? Or perhaps the people are doin' somethin' to it... harrowin' to think about, I know."

The young Trainer gave Natalia a serious look as he sat upright, trying to get the concerns away. Some of his posh facade returned in the face of his determination. "I guess... it yer gonna investigate here, and possibly do somethin' about what's happenin', it's my duty as a local to guide you around the Canyon. And... everythin' else too. I'm not gonna let anyone do terrible things on our sacred ground, so count me in, 'kay?"

Natalia beamed when Koa considered traveling alongside her. She knew he needed the insight and knowledge on places and Pokemon, and she missed having a companion who she can experience traveling with. Not that she would admit to it. Natalia watched as Koa expressed dread as she spoke and heard Kommo-o's warning chime. Vishy sensed a growing unease and heard the Kommo-o's tail chime, but it didn't sound happy. He tilted his head at the Kommo-o, confused. As Koa continued, Natalia listened intently, her eyes looking like she was sucking in everything he was saying like a sponge to water.

Boxes? The same ones she saw, she presumed. She had to see these. CS was certainly the same initials as the factory. Interesting that the Pokemon grew irritated among their presence. She got the idea that the crates held some kind of stamina drain when attacked, similar to Strength Sap from a Shiinotic.

After getting a head pat from Mo-o, Vishy grumbled some fish gurgling noises before stomping over to Natalia, resting against the rock wall and nuzzling his face into her side, giving her something cool and damp to rest her body on, his eyes closing and his face looking absolutely darling. Natalia rubbed mindless symbols on Vishy's forehead, earning a gurgling purr of content. Natalia watched Koa's affection towards Mo-o with a smile, enjoying how close those two were with each other. They were both worried, as evident by Mo-o's body language and noises, and they were both doing their part to make sure the other was okay.

Adorable.

She continued to listen, her mind going somewhere else as she imagined Koa's experience if she were here. Mysterious people entering, but never coming out. Weird noises. High-pitched whinnying like a horse Pokemon, an intense slithering noise of some kind of serpent... Irritable Pokemon.

Irritable Pokemon.

Natalia scowled and her lip curled up in disdain upon hearing how emotionally affected Mo-o's kin were. Even the Totem Kommo-o seemed to be in a sorry state from Koa's testimony. He spoke further, wanting to investigate and help her out. She smirked.

"Irritable Pokemon sounds familiar from a case file I read. A case in Almia. But I can't be sure as of yet until I see them for myself. But this is your home as much as it is the home of Mo-o's kin. Plus, it would be remiss of me to not allow a useful resource of geography and home base knowledge to follow along and help." She gave him a teasing smirk before pulling out three of her PokeBalls. "Everyone, return."

Ferras the Ferrothorn, Kiriki the Bisharp, and Brutus the Toxapex perked up and nodded, three beams of light returning the three Pokemon. Natalia stowed them away on her belt and pulled out two other PokeBalls. A Level Ball and a Nest Ball. "I'm going to be releasing the other two Pokemon. Just a fair warning."

Once Koa did his thing if he needed to, Natalia activated the two balls and they opened up within her hands, the two beams of light arcing. Appearing from the Level Ball, a golden sword sheathed within an equally golden shield floated above the air, two black and purple tipped ribbons hugging itself. The Aegislash realized the calm atmosphere and curbed his itch to fight. But he did zoom right up to Koa and Mo-o, bowing his entire body towards them in a polite fashion. The Aegislash did his best not to touch any of them, not wanting to accidentally suck their life force. The other Pokemon was large, white fur and frostbite blue skin, and a huge afro of snow-white fur with ice crystals dotting her chest and hair. If she were to curl up, she would look like a two-ball snowman.

The Galarian Darmanitan growled and looked around strangely, only to see Mo-o. However, her one-track mind quickly shifted to her stomach and she walked up to Natalia, holding out a hand. As Natalia got her food, she introduced her two Pokemon. "This is Darma the Darmanitan. The Aegislash is... Well.. Aegis." Natalia chuckled and scratched the back of her head. "I know, pretty bad. Anyway." Darma quickly scarfed her food and turned to stare at Mo-o. Sensing Darma's rising itch, Natalia quickly returned her, sighing. "For once, Aegis is not jumping to fight first."

Aegis was itching to fight, but for a different reason than to actually fight. He floated his way to Natalia, where he gripped her arm with his black and purple tendrils, the ribbon-like arms and Natalia's arm glowing with a spectral blue, her skin slowly becoming pale and her cheeks flushed from her adrenaline. "Aaaaaaaand you better not take too much like last time." Natalia glared at her sword and shield, who can be heard chortling but moreso out of nervousness.

Natalia scratched the back of her head and looked back at Koa with a sheepish look. "Anyway, sorry you couldn't see Darma for who she is just yet. She's been begging me to have her get into a fight with literally anyone I come across." After a couple minutes, Aegis (with a gurgling growl from Vishy) poked his Level Ball, being brought inside the sphere of his own volition while Natalia massaged out her arm, getting the color back in her flesh. "Ow." Vishy reached over her body and licked her bruising arm, making her giggle. "Okay, so..." Natalia repacked her things and slung it over her shoulder. "I think it's time we go and see these boxes. Anything else before we go?"

Vishy stood up alongside Natalia, making happy gurgling noises as the contraption began pumping more from his sudden movement. "Vishy, I know you want to be out, but you have to return. We don't want to accidentally anger the local wildlife."

The lumbering fish hybrid pouted and hung his head in sorrow before bumping his nose on his PokeBall, his body disappearing. Now, not having to worry about anything, Natalia stretched and was ready to follow Koa wherever he needed to take her.

"I'm glad I can be of assistance. If somethin' bad is goin' on here, it's my duty as a local to do anythin' I can to aid the authorities. And whoever's behind this is gonna have a word from me too." Koa sounded a bit frustrated, thinking of the strange events that had been unfolding as of late, but knowing that Natalia could do something about it, as an Interpol agent, relaxed him. "If the irritated Pokémon are similar to the ones in Almia, do you have a solution for it?"

As Natalia let out her other Pokémon, Koa quickly sent Stretchy, Rebel and Chomper, in that order, back into their capsules. Mo-o, however, stood behind, not intimidated by the sharp Aegis and the frigid Darma. The young Trainer himself, though, shivered slightly next to his partner at the sight of the Darmanitan. "S-Sheesh, Natalia, is it me or did ya just bring Mount Lanakila down here?" Koa also took a glance at Natalia's ghoulish arm after Aegis' touch. "Is... Is that gonna be okay?"

As soon as Natalia got ready to proceed, Koa also stood up to start the trek. Mo-o rose to his feet, as the Kommo-o's tail clanged with a determined echo. "Sorry, it's probably better to keep Mo-o out for now-- he's as good of a guide as I am, and at least every confrontation with one of his kin won't immediately be a battle. We're ready as soon as you are, I know a good place to show ya the boxes."

Natalia smiled sweetly as Koa shared his grateful sentiment at helping. Though, her smile faltered when she heard his frustrations. Natalia nodded as Koa said he needed Mo-o out for protection and as a guide, to which she understood. The wild Pokemon were likely more comfortable with a fellow Kommo-o running around than an abomination like Vishy though. As Natalia walked with Koa through Vast Poni Canyon, she shrugged, bringing back the topics Koa brought up earlier after having ignored him in favor for getting up and leaving. Though, she did chuckle at Koa's shiver from Darma.

"I hope I have a solution for it. I regret to say I have nothing I can use for it, but if it's similar to what happened in Almia, it is caused by machines. Destroying the machines responsible should bring the wild Pokemon back to normal." Natalia rubbed her arm where Aegis had grabbed onto and smiled at Koa's earlier concern. "It'll be okay. The color is starting to come back. Aegis uses life force from nearby creatures to keep his strength up, but he doesn't need it to live. Granted, I'm all for giving him some of my strength so he can perform better in a fight." Indeed, Natalia's arm was bringing back its color, just a purple bruise wrapping around her arm from where Aegis had touched was left. It likely was tender, but she didn't seem to be bothered by it. "It's a sacrifice I'm willing to make for my Pokemon as it has ensured our survival in the past."

Natalia can feel the air's emotional stagnation. Instead of exotic power she would normally feel, it felt stifling. It was... Odd. She felt very unnerved and it showed with her hands clenching and unclenching, and her teeth gritting. As they walked, there weren't that many Pokemon outside. Maybe a few in the grass, but it was largely quiet. As if every creature who lived here avoided making any sound from fear... Or sudden complacency. "I swore Vast Poni Canyon was more active. The air feels weird..." She mumbled worryingly.

"That's a weird Pokémon indeed." Koa reflected on the nature of Aegis' means of sustenance, essentially leeching off its own Trainer's life force to live. This seemed not to majorly harm Natalia at all, but the young one was still concerned in a way. Yet, at the same time, the nature of the boxes was even more egregious. "How are we gonna destroy 'em if any Pokémon get tired after tryin'? Maybe there's some kinda... weapon ya know of, Natalia?"

Koa whistled along the path, trying to keep his spirits up as much as possible. The melody might've been familiar to the more experienced of the two, as it was rarely played atop the Altar. Mo-o remained cautious, keeping his center of gravity low as the Kommo-o stomped through the familiar paths, and eventually breaking into a quadrupedal skulk when his senses reached a breaking point. The pseudo-legendary then came to a halt in front of his Trainer as the scale-clad tail rattled with the sound of warning.

"So, this has to be it..." As Mo-o stood back up, waiting for Koa to check out the danger himself, the local made his way into the tall grass, parting it, approaching another cave entrance. He turned back to Natalia one more time. "Wait over here, I think this is where one of them boxes is." Koa trod carefully, noticing the absence of any Rockruff or Charjabug amongst the grass, which was clearly unnatural, until he reached what he feared: the crate.

A compact cube, with the initials "CS" engraved onto its surface. The ominous air could be felt more intensely near it, and Koa couldn't help but feel his stomach sink. As he stepped near the box, Mo-o let out an exasperated roar, as he rattled his tail energetically with that uneasy clanging noise. It was as if the Dragon/Fighting type expected something to go wrong, and was holding himself back from intervening.

Natalia wasn't surprised that her explanation on Aegis' eating habits would be concerning. Those who have had Aegislash or Pokemon who usually eat life force to keep their strength up would argue that she didn't need to give up her own energy - that Ghost-Types can go on for years without sucking the souls of people and still live. They thought that she'd lose it all at some point from all those intermittent feedings, thinking that life force couldn't be regenerated. But to Natalia, life force was a constant thing that can regenerate as the person continues to live and take care of themselves.

Of course, she beat them in a battle between a "fed" Aegislash and a "starving" Ghost-Type, so Natalia was sure her Aegislash being fed made a difference.

If only marginally, considering her Aegislash was better skilled than her opponent's, something Natalia had forgotten about.

Natalia looked back at Koa when he asked how to destroy the boxes and she shrugged. "I have no idea. I'll have to take a look first before I figure it out."

As they walked along, Natalia heard Koa whistling a very familiar tune. She swore she heard it before. Altar of the Moone? She's only been there once when she heard two people play on decorated flutes to a large, decorated rock. As thanks.

Natalia saw it as tradition, as she didn't think the creatures from legend that were said came from that rock would ever come back or hear that glorious tune. But it was soothing. She smiled at the memory. "I think I've heard of that somewhere before."

Though, Natalia thought it strange Mo-o was getting so anxious. Well, to her it looked like anxiety, not caution. As they continued, she looked up to see Mo-o rattling his tail. Pokemon were able to sense the box's location? Or maybe Mo-o was just feeling uneasy... She didn't know, this wasn't her Pokemon. He stopped in front of his trainer as he sensed something and Natalia followed alongside them. There were no Pokemon in the tall grass...

Natalia's alarm bells began ringing within her head. "Hm... I don't like this." Her instincts were yelling at her to run or fight. Her hands gripped into fists and her teeth gritted. Her walking became slightly less proper as she leaned ever so slightly forward. Her eyes were wide, taking in everything, her pupils dilated to pinpricks.

Natalia was then told to wait. She let out a gruff growl, any sense of being presentable as a normal human slightly going out the window as the danger around her began to awake a primal need to fight. She looked around, begging to find anything normal. Anything at all.

There were no Pokemon.

None, whatsoever.

Natalia's head snapped back to Koa when she heard Mo-o's tail clanging. Natalia ran into the cave, her muscles ready to make quick-snap decisions. Then, there it was.

That box.

CS...

"It has to be their box." Natalia got closer, her posture becoming more crouched as she approached it cautiously, until she was beside Koa. She didn't know whether or not it was going to react, but if a Granbull smacked it and it didn't do anything besides possibly drain the Pokemon's stamina, then it wouldn't activate or open up.

The box stood there, inert.

Growling, Natalia poked the box with a quick finger. It was.... tepid. But it was in a cave, why did it have any semblance of warmth? Natalia moved closer to the box and set her hand on it. The metal was smooth, warm, and it lightly vibrated, and she slowly stood back up. The box was shorter than her, only going up to her stomach, but it was just as wide as it was tall. She can feel slight bits of vibrations inside. She then set her ear on it, ignoring any kind of possible protests the two were making to get her to get away from it.

Whirring.

She pulled away, a scowl on her face. "It's not a box to hold anything. It's a machine. It whirs and it's generating its own heat." She didn't know if hitting it as a human would affect her, so she did. She slammed her fist on the top. The slam resonated throughout the cave in a dull thunk. It sounded strangely hollow, as if there weren't that many things inside. She didn't feel any different, so it only affected Pokemon. "Hmm..." Natalia stepped back a bit, finding it not much of a threat right now. "Weird."

She tapped one of the balls on her hip and out came her Bisharp. Kiriki looked around, the blades on her arms jutting outward and she got defensive. "Kiriki." The Bisharp looked at her trainer, who was pointing at the box. "Do you hear anything from it?"

The Bisharp tilted her head inquisitively and relaxed her posture slightly. Until she looked at the box. A low growl escaped within the deep recesses of her throat and she took a few steps back from it. She nodded at her master's question. "Do you hear a whirring?"

A shake of Bisharp's head. "Then what?" Thinking it could be worse, Natalia was reminded of a move she had Bisharp learn Metal Burst over after realizing it wasn't useful to Kiriki herself. "Is it like... How Metal Sound sounds?" Kiriki tilted her head, trying to remember what the move sounded like at all. It's been so long.

Finally, Kiriki held out her hands in an impartial shrug. "Hmm, kind of." Natalia translated. "How loud is it?" Kiriki shook her head, then lifted up her metallic gauntlet and made a small pinch. "So, it's quiet, you can just hear it because you're nearer. Does it bother you at all?"

Kiriki nodded her head rapidly, and then she retreated into her Dusk Ball. Whatever this box was, it was enough to get the normally patient Bisharp to hide. "It must be pretty irritating." It dawned on her.

"The boxes... They are causing the Pokemon to act strangely, they have to be." She looked at Koa uncertainly. "There's not much I can do to destroy this thing. I doubt even the Totem Kommo-o's Hammer Arm can destroy these things. It's sturdy enough to block even that. If it's connected to anything, we'll have to destroy the source. Otherwise, if it's got a mini generator inside, I'll have to call more agents to pick these up and take them back for dismantling." Natalia looked like she was contemplating something. Something about this seemed too familiar.

"Show me where the Totem's chamber is." She partially commanded Koa, her voice stern, as if she was giving an order.

A faint rumble from under the ground can be heard and Natalia's eyes shot downward. "Are you aware of any tunnels underneath Vast Poni Canyon?"

Koa stood back silently as the Bisharp came out, examining the box. Mo-o held his breath, sitting much like a Lillipup would beside his partner, not unlike how Natalia had described him earlier. However, as Kiriki retreated into her Dusk Ball, the Dragon/Fighting type's tail rattled once more with the sound of danger. The aspiring dragon whisperer had seen this happen before, but it was still as shocking as the first time, especially given the Bisharp's otherwise calm demeanor.

"I... oh no. S-So uh... do ya think the way ya mentioned earlier will work, or--"

The Alolan native's nervous question was cut short by the Interpol agent's stern order. Having forgotten momentarily about Natalia's background, Koa felt like he was talking to some kind of kahuna with that tone, and he was taken aback for a split second before returning to his senses. His country tone also disappeared from his speech due to the sheer surprise.

"T-The Totem's chamber? I-I-- very well. Mo-o?"

With a sneer, as the Kommo-o blew air out of its snout with determination, the large specimen once again stomped at the front of the group. Koa followed close behind. They both knew the path well. Each cave, cliff and crevice was imprinted on their minds relatively well, and navigating the Canyon wasn't hard for the pair either. Natalia had been there before, so he understood she might not need any help around the place, but if any path seemed perilous he'd lend her a hand.

Around the Canyon paths, the group spotted a few Jangmo-os lurking around the tall grass. They seemed almost like sentries, and despite Koa trying not to let it worry him too much, their glares mostly landed on Natalia. A mean look from Mo-o usually made them scurry away, but these seemed more determined than usual.

Eventually, the group reached the path leading to the Totem's chamber. Koa took a deep breath, and turned to his Pokémon partner, who had stopped a few meters away from the entrance. He rubbed Mo-o's facial scales in an attempt to relax him before giving his directions to both him and Natalia.

"Hey Natalia, this is it. We'll go in front, so we can make sure it's safe. I know you're tough and all --most likely more than me--, but ideally I wouldn't wanna have Mo-o fight his brethren. If ya don't mind, I'm gonna need you to take a bit of distance behind us. Hopefully nothin' bad happens, but if the Jangmo-o and Hakamo-o are already pretty annoyed... better safe than sorry, right?"

Natalia cursed herself mentally for startling the poor man. Though, Mo-o didn't seem too bothered about it. She can definitely tell that smashing the crates would do no good. Other than that, it was good to be guided. While the place didn't really change, Natalia swore she would have gotten lost without their help. All these gangly trees, natural land bridges, and going in and out of cave systems was starting to make her rather dizzy. She had spotted a few yellow, rounded spots in the tall grass, and pairs of red slits glaring at them. She noticed Mo-o glaring at them back, but they didn't seem to leave right away, if they did at all.

She scowled, her eyes narrowing from how odd this all was. Still, she walked beside Koa and Mo-o, not wanting any Pokemon to jump out and attack her. She already had troubles like that in the past and she wanted to lessen that as much as possible.

When they entered the path, Natalia tilted her head as she watched Koa try to comfort Mo-o. They seemed to be getting nervous. Well, who wouldn't be? This could change the very behavioral tendencies of all Pokemon if not dealt with properly, besides the obvious of their very home, life, and possible dream changing. He then turned and spoke to her. She nodded in understanding. "Alright, will do." Her voice was less stern, less authoritative, like she was comfortable giving him the reins of control for a bit.

As they entered the chamber... It was empty, save the for creeping vines climbing up the cave walls and coming off from moss covered leafless trees and statues.

The chamber held no Pokemon inside. Even the spot where the Kommo-o would normally rest was vacant. The only other thing visible besides the exit that led to the altar was another hole. It was larger; large enough for a Totem Kommo-o to possibly slip through on all fours. Natalia walked closer to it, unsure of where it could lead or if it had anything inside that could possibly creep up on her.

Then she heard the distant sound of a high-pitched whinny and the low metallic screech and roar of something big as it slithered about, making the earth move and quake at the slightest provocation. Natalia could at least pick out the first sound, which made it all the more plausible that the man she had seen was here. Dread became palpable in the air around her as her eyes widened and her trained hands flexed near her PokeBalls, a worried frown on her face. Her face became pale and her blood ran cold.

"That's a Rapidash." She said breathlessly. She had to get out and call more agents. But as soon as she took a step back, the sound of a distant boom rocketed the canyon and its chambers. Distant cracking and breaking of rock resounded around them as the cave system shifted, blocking some exits and making new ones; the exit to the alter being the first they saw to collapse. Dust fell from the ceiling. The ground quaked to an almost foot-falling rate. A high-pitched frequency, a strange air of energy that was felt throughout most of Alola, and the smell of burning fossil fuels escaped the hole that Natalia was trying to peer through, causing all Wild Pokemon to become irritable and aggressive, clouding their eyes with agitation and making it difficult to see friend from foe. It, strangely enough, didn't affect those of the trainer's Pokemon. It was only mildly irritating at worse.

"Oh, fuck." Natalia ran back to Koa, her voice unusually shaken despite how hard she tried to keep a calm, stoic appearance. "We need to get out. Now!" Natalia cursed herself for not bringing her Scolipede. They will just have to make do without her. She rushed out of the chamber, thankful that the entrance to the chamber didn't collapse.

She just hoped Koa wasn't too broken up about his home being destroyed from underneath. She didn't know how that felt, but she hoped he can jump to action. They just need to figure out what to do.

As soon as Natalia was able to feel the hot sun again, she tried going onto her phone and called Interpol. The dial rang, and rang... and rang........ and rang.

Finally, she heard a voice, but it was an automated answering machine, saying that the number she was calling was not available because she didn't have service. Growling in frustration, Natalia shoved her phone away and tried to think of something. "Koa, I can't get ahold of my base. We'll have to find a way back to the entrance of-... AGH!" Natalia was thrown towards Koa as she felt three cuts slice along her lower back. She stood her ground and turned to see a Jangmo-o on their hind legs; eyes glowing red with bloodshot eyes; strange, glowing, orange aura coming off their bodies similarly to the Totem Kommo-o; and both foreclaws glowing a bright teal from draconic energy.

Natalia can feel her shirt pool up with blood on her lower back, but she ignored the stinging pain for now. "Damn it." She pulled out her Net Ball, throwing out Dracovish. Vishy stomped out of the PokeBall as the light dispersed and he roared menacingly, but the Jangmo-o only roared back in defiance. Natalia sighed, already not liking this. "Oh, this isn't good." More Jangmo-o and even other Pokemon who lived within the tall grass were all roaring and crying out, agitated and not sure where to put all this violent energy towards. "Okay, uhm... Hehe, don't panic." Natalia's voice cracked before steadying herself. "We can get through this. Okay? We just have to get through and maybe find a way out if it hasn't changed too much and we can get some help. If the entrance isn't blocked off..." She mumbled the last part to herself, but it was possibly loud enough for Koa to hear.

Vacation was just not close enough, was it?

Koa seemed a bit more relaxed as they entered the cavern, with Natalia's recognition of his expertise in areas like this. However, the young man couldn't help but immediately notice how... empty everything was, and that unnerved him almost instantly. The jittering of the Jangmo-o, the Rockruffs, or the Charjabugs, was nowhere to be heard. The silence was ominous, to say the least, and it reflected in Koa's face. He swallowed some phlegm, getting a bad feeling.

"This place... i-it's never this empty. What... what happened here?!"

The worst was still yet to come. Koa hoped the Totem Kommo-o would be there, and so did Mo-o, finding the lack of his kind disturbing, as the beast made a dissonant rattle with his tail. Yet, when they arrived... it was nowhere to be found. The dragon whisperer stopped in his tracks, stumped, for the first time during the mission, on what to do, or where to go. His pride wouldn't let him admit this to Natalia right away, and his thoughts were interrupted by... sounds. Sounds he had heard before, from Pokémon he didn't know. But Natalia did, and her theories from earlier were correct.

"T-The Totem isn't here...? What the-- oh, no!"

Before he could show any pity or frustration, Koa was interrupted by the sudden bustle of the cavern, shaking and quaking with them inside! He nodded as Natalia started to make her way out, before signaling to the Kommo-o that they should follow. On the way out, however, Natalia was attacked out of nowhere! The native managed to hold Natalia, and stopped her from falling over after the vicious slash.

"Natalia! You're bleedin'..." His tone was concerned, but he was more anxious than anything. The wild Pokémon of the Canyon had gone wild, and he did not know how, or why. They were all in danger, and even if the cavern was a sacred place to him, and their assailants included his partner's kin... now was the time to fight. The Dragon/Fighting type nodded before standing side to side with Vishy, scales clanging as both their roars echoed through the cavern.

"We'll get out of this one, but for now, we're countin' on you two!"

Pain surged through her back, and made her legs weak. She clutched to someone nearby and noticed it was Koa. Natalia groaned, standing up by herself with some help. She shook her head, growling. "I don't care if I'm bleeding. We just have to find the way out of Vast Poni Canyon." Looking at the horde of Hakamo-o and Jangmo-o, she scanned for a way forward. To the sides. Then somewhere else. She wasn't able to find any way around, so through them they had to go. Clutching to Koa's shoulder as she hunched over and moved from the pain of her shirt brushing up against her wounds, she roared out a command.

"Pave a way through, Vishy! Waterfall!"

As water surged around Vishy's body in preparation, his cloudy eyes snap to as the cloudiness disappeared. With a roar, he charged forward. Three Hakamo-o stood together and put their claws up, their forearms glowing with white light. Natalia was confused, but before she realized what it was and told her Pokemon to stop, her Dracovish bashed the three pairs of arms up, pushing the three backwards. However, their natural resistance to water kept them steadfast, growling in defiance. One roared and the white light brightened before blasting the Dracovish with what Natalia guessed was Counter.

The Dracovish screeched in agony, stumbling backwards before falling on his side. Snarling with his teeth bared, he clumsily got up and snapped his head towards the Hakamo-o, the orange glow from their bodies looking like translucent flames.

"They know Counter, Vishy. I'll have to return you!" As Natalia took out Vishy's Net Ball, he shook his head in defiance as a mist exited his giant maw and his teeth began to coat with ice. "Damn it, Vishy!" She tried bringing him back, but the beam missed as he launched forward with surprising speed. The Hakamo-o played defensive with Counter, but Vishy's head dropped and brushed against the ground as he snapped at the legs of one under the light of his arms. The Hakamo-o screeched, its claws becoming teal once again before Vishy suddenly threw the Hakamo-o to the other side of the canyon, roaring at the other two in sheer fury.

Of course, that was only the start, as more Pokemon began to pile forward besides the Jangmo-o and Hakamo-o. Howls from Lycanroc, angry screeching from Skarmory, chirps from Murkrow, roars from Machoke, crashing from Boldore, eerie cooing from a nearby Carbink, and resigned screeches from a Mienfoo were heard resonating throughout the canyon. What was peculiar that they were all agitated and they all had the glowing orange glow the Hakamo-o and Jangmo-o had.

Koa flinched instinctively when Natalia barked at his attempt to help, even when she clung onto him in her pain. She looked around nervously, when Koa, too, understood that the entrance was blocked, meaning... she was planning to power through the masses. The Kommo-o blew air from his snout, awaiting his partner's directions just as Vishy overpowered some of the Hakamo-os, right before a massive wave of Pokémon crept upon the two. Koa had an idea, even if he hated having to harm the wild Pokémon of the Canyon...

"Hey, Natalia! Cover your ears for a sec! Mo-o, give 'em some Clangin' Scales!"

The bulking dragon nodded, blowing air out of his nostrils as he began to rattle the armour-like scales all over his body, in a manner that would generate a sonic wave, brimming with draconic aura, aimed for the masses in front of the group! Some of the Pokémon directly in its path were blown away, others were just struck, and especially some of those in the Kommo-o's own line did not take it well... however, that left an opening, as the aura imbalance that the move imposed on its user was taxing on Mo-o's defense. Taking advantage of this, a trio of Skarmory dove down upon the Dragon/Fighting type, surprising him with a coordinated push... the dragon pushed back against the lead Skarmory's Steel Wing attack, not backing down just yet! The other two surprised the Kommo-o with twin Metal Claws to his sides, causing him to wince in pain... Koa wasn't having this!

Natalia looked to Koa before having to detach herself from Koa's shoulder, covering her ears. She could still kind of hear Koa's command, but even if she didn't hear it, she could have guessed what was used by way of the Mo-o's use of Clanging Scales. It was a variant use of it that she'd never seen before. But she couldn't marvel at it for right now, as Vishy backed up, the Hakamo-o having been blasted back. Hurt or not, they didn't seem to get back up.

However, the Skarmory flew around like Mandibuzz, circling and pestering the Kommo-o. Growling, Natalia whistled sharply. Vishy's head snapped towards Mo-o and he growled. Turning towards him and his head following the movement of the birds, the Water/Dragon-Type's teeth became cloaked in darkness. He squatted as he approached the Dragon/Fighting-Type before suddenly stretching out his tail-neck towards the metal birds. Sounding like rending metal and a sickening crunch, he grabbed one with his teeth and threw it down on the ground, the Pokemon finding it difficult to recover and fly again.

One of the Skarmory flew towards Vishy, talons cloaked in metallic energy as it scratched at his face, going for the eyes. Screeching, he snapped with the reflex of a snake, aiming his Crunch attack for the feet, only to miss and clapping his jaws together.

Natalia saw an opening and looked to Koa. "We'll have to balance returning and throwing out our Pokemon for when we need it. For now, we should go." Natalia looked at the opening given by Mo-o's Clanging Scales and began going for it, crouched slightly as she traveled behind her attacking Pokemon, a dark red spot on her lower back but it seemed like she wasn't bothered by it anymore due to her adrenaline. That's when she noticed a box nearby, hiding between two rocks. Only reason why she saw it now and not earlier was because it was glowing a bright cerulean.

It was open, all faces of the cube having been pushed out slightly as it seemed like something was whirring inside. Lights dimmed and then brightened, alternating in a soft pattern. Yet, as she got closer, it was evident it smelled like burning gasoline like from a car's exhaust, and there was a very light high-pitched noise coming from the box.

This seemed almost too familiar.

The Skarmory that Vishy had managed to snag was slammed with great force onto the grass, letting out a shimmering screech as it began to flap away with considerable difficulty. That seemed to halt the Steel/Fllying types' assault for now, as the other two were intimidated by the display, and opted to fly away for a possible counterattack later. The Kommo-o quickly turned his gaze back towards the incoming horde, yet the mismashed Fossil could've noticed a glint of relief, and appreciation, in the Dragon/Fighting type's reptilian eyes. However, as one of the Skarmory came back to dive towards the Dracovish, Mo-o retaliated in defense of his ally, in tune with Koa's direction and taking advantage of the former's missed attack, by out a burst of flame from its mouth that graced the airborne foe, scaring it off! The remaining one sped back into the horde for the time being.

"Right! Let's make it quick!" Koa hurried through the open path, following Natalia, in the hopes that this opening would grant them both a chance to escape. It didn't take long for the smell to set in... the native Trainer couldn't help but gag at the stench of gasoline as soon as they were in proximity of the box, even before they found it. The noise it produced was not exactly pleasant either, and the Interpol agent could swiftly notice how disgusting the mix of sensations was for the poor teenager. "Ugh-- h-how do we get rid of this?"

As soon as both Pokémon were freed from the Skarmory trio's approach, a pack of Lycanrocs could be seen leading the charge! One of them, a Midnight Lycanroc, pounced towards Vishy, summoning stones around him with its Rock-type aura in preparation for a Rock Throw attack! At the same time, a Midday Lycanroc rushed on forwards, hoping to tackle Mo-o head-on with an Accelerock!

Vishy was irritated. Furious, even. However, even within the fog of his wrath, he still processed that the Kommo-o was rather pleased at the backup. And, in turn, Vishy was given reprieve from the braver Skarmory as Mo-o breathed out hot flames, scaring it towards the rest of its battered flock. Upon hearing the two humans hurry on behind him, Vishy turned and lumbered on beside them, with Natalia picking up the pace. The smell was gross and it stung her lungs. Looking back to see how Koa was doing through her stinging eyes, she saw how repulsed Koa was. She nearly found it hilarious. Of course, he wouldn't be used to this kind of smoggy smell.

She shrugged at the question, shaking her head. "I don't know."

That was, of course, when more Pokemon appeared. A pack of Lycanroc, both forms despite one of them being nearly strictly nocturnal. Natalia looked at the water tanks for Vishy's gills. They were bubbling away erratically, sometimes causing large glups and glorps from the bubbles. It sounded like he was only 60% down of his water supply. Once he hit 50%, she'll have to return him. But another battle couldn't hurt. These were Rock-Types, weak to Water, but also Steel and Ground. If she wanted to make this easier, she had to have one of his moves miss entirely. The Midnight Lycanroc charged Vishy with a Rock Throw, which was good news and bad news. Bad news was Vishy's Assault Vest, a cushy vest around the draconic body, didn't lessen this attack. Good news was that this attack likely wasn't that strong. She could have Vishy do something else. As for the other Lycanroc, it had used Accelerock. None of Vishy's moves were fast enough to stop the hit, so she knew what to do.

"Ice Fang on Midday! Stomping Tantrum on Midnight!" Vishy's fangs cloaked with ice before snapping towards the Midday Lycanroc, missing entirely and getting smashed in the face with rocks pelted by the Midnight Lycanroc. With a frustrated gleam in his eyes and a wicked grin, Vishy's legs became cloaked in earthen energy before he began stomping on the ground like a child having a tantrum. Splinters of earth shot up and hit the Midnight Lycanroc, sending it yelping and falling back from the Super-Effective attack.

Meanwhile, Natalia had sneaked around the Pokemon and found the box. The smell was repulsive and the sound was even bothering her ears. She felt around the protruding ledges and found that the symbols were just big enough for fingers to slip through. Peeking inside, it was glowing and there seemed to be an engine similar to one found in a car and... Something else she recalled earlier. Growling, she found a thin enough stick and stuck it in the space until she felt something catch. The box began to whir louder and the screeching became distorted but more unbearable.

Realizing it was going to explode, Natalia dove out of the way, but while the box was busy whirring up, it hadn't exploded. Not yet. However, what looked like dark liquid leaked from the box and it began to convulse and shake, the stick moving erratically inside.

Time was running out, and Natalia was too slow alone.

"There's gotta be somethin' we can do, right? W-We can't just leave... THAT there!"

The awful stench was getting to Koa, or was it more the thought that this contraption was an ugly stain on the beauty of the Canyon? Not just that, but the effect it clearly had on the Pokémon had to be dealt with, and fast. The young Trainer watched on as Natalia approached the box, believing it to be a bomb... but there was no boom. The sound was atrocious, and even if Koa was used to loud noises due to his training with Mo-o, he had to cover his ears this once.

However, the Alolan native could still focus on giving directions to his partner! As Vishy focused on dishing out pain to the Midnight Lycanroc, Koa signaled to the Kommo-o with a special fist signature, devised for use during loud noises, especially after a Clangorous Soul is still echoing, that told the Dragon/Fighting type exactly what to do. The pseudo-legendary narrowly tanked the Rock type's Accelerock, taking some damage, in order to assure perfect positioning as Fighting energy filled up in his left fist, delivering a nasty hook to the canine, and seemingly draining some of its life force! The blow was enough to get the rogue Lycanroc off their back for now, as both Koa began to make his way over to Natalia's position.

"Any ideas at all? Whatever we have to do, I'm ready to try it!"

Natalia looked at Koa as he made hand signs for Mo-o to use, what looked like, Drain Punch. As Koa made his way over to Natalia, her eyes widened and she yelled a "SHIT, GET BACK!" From another Dive Ball, a Toxapex appeared. Brutus growled and stood on two of his spiny, flat tentacles, becoming a vertical disc. His entire outside looked like a medium-sized circular shield covering both Koa and Natalia as the front shined purple. The box reached an even higher pitch, rattled even more, and then finally blew up. Pieces flew towards the Poison/Water-Type but he tanked the explosion and debris with his Baneful Bunker, saving the two humans from the debris. However, debris grazed Natalia's upper arm as it was extended just a bit too far to the side of the Merciless Pokemon.

Hissing, she looked at the shaved skin and it wasn't looking too good. Shaking her head and gritting through the pain. She stood up. Now that her arm pain was the new thing her mind was screaming about, her lower back pain was null. Ignoring the blood dripping down her arm, she returned her Toxapex and ran back to the exploded cube. The smell of the gasoline was stronger now, a pool of it soaking into the ground and staining everything in its crude oil, but the sound was emanating from the cube anymore. However, the Pokemon could likely hear more distant cubes screaming in their own irritating cacophony.

Vishy ran off the Midnight Lycanroc, the red rocky wolf running off with the Midday, not wanting to bother those powerful Pokemon again. Growling, Natalia looked around, having found the way they came. If they could just get out of the canyon, that would be great. However, they'd have to go through one more set of caves. Well, she thought. "Is there another way to get to the entrance so we don't run into any cavern Pokemon?" She looked to Koa, her face screamed resignation and stoicism despite the pain edging the far reaches of her mind.

"W-What?!"

Koa tried to protect himself at the last second, not expecting the box to detonate after all, but luckily, the Water/Poison type blocked the explosion with no difficulties! The young man coughed as the air picked up with smoke, and took a disappointed look as Natalia kept getting hurt once again. But there was no time for concern, as the Interpol agent demonstrated earlier. He made his way over to her again, as she asked for some kind of other way to escape... Koa had the perfect idea!

"Don't worry, I've got that covered!" With a swift move, Koa reached for one of his Poké Balls, letting out Rebel, the Gabite, on the field! The proud Dragon/Ground type roared in defiance of... no one, really, before realising there was no immediate opponent in sight, and sighing in disillusionment. "Rebel! Give us yer quickest Dig, please!", demanded the Dragon specialist, already sending Mo-o back into his own ball. With a nod, the feisty Gabite's body was engulfed in tectonic energy, his feet giving off a small wave that would soften the ground below the group, before beginning to stomp, and hack and slash at the dirt beneath both Trainers' feet, producing a small ditch in a matter of seconds, which was deepening by the minute!

The dirt poured and poured out of the hole as Rebel dug deeper and deeper. The young Trainer took a look at Natalia. "This is our way out-- it's a bit of a gamble, but we've gotta try! C'mon!" Koa, already familiar with his friend's digging habits, didn't take long to jump into the hole, before beginning to crawl right behind the Gabite. It would seem like only Natalia's support was left in this operation!

Thankfully, Koa had an idea! Natalia watched as he returned his Kommo-o and let out his Gabite, telling him to Dig. the Dragon/Ground-Type dug and, by this time, Natalia can pick out the nearby noises of the aggressive Pokemon that attacked them. Growling, Natalia held her arm by the elbow and looked around for any threats. The Skarmory were coming back, she can see the manes of the Lycanroc, and the yellow head scales of the Hakamo-o. Pulling out the two Dive Balls, she returned both Vishy and Brutus as Koa jumped down. Not wanting any of the wild Pokemon to jump in behind them, Natalia was thankful her Ferras was barely three feet in height.

Jumping in hole and releasing her Grass/Steel-Type from her Quick Ball, she yelled. "Cover the hole!" The three pods dug into the sides of the vertical portion of the tunnel, giving Natalia enough time to catch up to Koa. As she did, the earth shifted behind them all and fell, burying Ferras temporarily before she shook the dirt off with disdain and crawled after her trainer. Ferras gripped the sides of the tunnel with her spiky pods as she traveled through. She was rather disgusted by all this dirt since it was destroying her metal finish, but she couldn't complain right now as she felt how dire the situation was. It just made her stressed. Natalia felt concerned that maybe the earth was a bit too soft, so she hushed out a command, now that the path behind them was blocked. "Leech Seed. Keep the tunnel up."

Nodding, Ferras's vines glowed a shimmering green, she hummed, then glowing, green tendrils exited out of her three pods and snaked through the earth, holding up the roof and sides of the tunnel and giving the tunnel structure. Sighing, Natalia ignored the pain that was making itself known again as she looked to Koa, sounding winded. "If we don't get out soon, we'll have to rest somewhere and then find a body of water. Vishy only has 50% of the water in his tanks left, and I need to tend to these wounds before I forget."

Luckily, while the aggressors that were near the entrance had known they went into the earth, they didn't know where they were going. Natalia listened for anything above them, but found it difficult. There was just too much earth between them and the surface. Ferras groaned, not only at the extraneous use of the Leech Seed that wasn't commonly used like this, but also because there was just too much dirt and she was getting grossed out. Natalia looked back and shushed her quietly and soothingly, reaching back to pet her on the forehead. "It's okay, we don't have to be in here for much longer. Just enough so we don't- well...." She furrowed her brow and looked up. "You know..."

Realizing that the situation they were in was far, far worse than she had thought, the Ferrothorn whined and stared directly at Natalia's lower back, wanting to fix it but knowing it was beyond her abilities and that of the rest of her team to heal anything. This was what happened when Natalia got cocky thinking she didn't need a healer in the group.

Koa could finally take a sigh of relief, having found a way to give them temporary respite from the incessant assault of the enraged wild Pokémon of the canyon. Although this was by no means a permanent solution, and they'd have to either dig out somewhere and be exposed for attack or find a body of water, they were at least safe for now. The only problem was that Koa was familiar with the surface of the Canyon... but how was he going to be able to guide Natalia now if they were underground? The earth and mud looked about the same everywhere! The young man thought hard, trying to orient himself, while Rebel chopped and dug away at the miasma of rock and dirt in front of them.

"We're going to be safe in here... at least for a while. Rebel's a good digger. But we're gonna have to find a place ta' dig up on, won't we?" Koa found it a bad idea to just blindly dig around, hoping to strike water. His serious tone and casual dialect bounced back and forth, as he tried to remain stoic, for Natalia's sake and that of both their partners. The Gabite did not seem particularly shaken as he hacked away at the dirt wall, but the Interpol agent could see the concern in the aspiring Trainer's eyes. "How are we gonna get outta this one? Think, Koa! Think--!"

Rebel growled and chirped with both enthusiasm and effort as his scythe claws tore apart the rubble. Koa could give a new direction at any time... he looked to Natalia. "We could do one thing, or another... while we have time, what do you think we could do?"

Natalia saw how hard Koa was thinking. Was he trying to guide them, even under all this dirt? Or was he thinking about something else? She also heard the difference in dialect and Natalia knew that meant he was nervous. Probably scared. Unsure. His attempts at remaining stoic for her did not work, however she instead smiled warmly, putting a hand on his shoulder as he attempted to rouse himself to think. "It's okay. This isn't normal, what we're going through. For you especially."

She looked up and clicked her tongue a few times. If they were just heading straight forward like they were earlier, then if they keep going straight, they'll hit the outside of the canyon. If they did that, she didn't know if there'd be something trying to stop them. It was likely that if they knew they were digging and a Pokemon particularly sensitive to tremors was around, they'd be in for more trouble. Plus, she didn't know how long Ferras had to hold the tunnel up around them.

Sighing, the agent patted Koa on the shoulder again before pulling her hand back, her eyes devising a sort of plan. "Pokemon are smart, even when they are like this. They know we want out, so they'll likely be doing pack tactics and interspecies communication to stop us from leaving. I don't want to leave either way since I want to stop what's happening here. I refuse to. But we need a place to rest and Ferras can't keep holding the tunnel steady." She patted the spiky body of her Ferrothorn while her gaze didn't leave Koa. "We walked a ways out of the totem's cavern and didn't enter any more caverns or tunnels. From your memory of where we were before we jumped down, facing the way out, where would the nearest body of water be? Let's head there first. I recall we passed by something like that where we had to go through some tunnels and then after we passed through go on some bridges to be on the land we're digging under now, but that's all I know. I don't remember if it's left or right. We can hold ourselves there until we get ourselves tended to."

With a strategy, she awaited for Koa to use his mental map of the area to find where the water was. She had no Pokemon who could dig, so they'd just have to deal with the Gabite leading them for now.

Koa's train of thought was blocked by Natalia's reassurance-- thankfully, she had noticed the bad spot the kid was in, trying to first of all, figure out where they were, second, where they were headed, and lastly, where to even go! It was an especially abject kind of panic to not know your way around your own home-- because you're trying to walk underground. But how could he NOT know where to go? What kind of local guide would he be if he didn't? The fact was, though, that it was very hard to tell, especially under such duress. But thankfully, diamonds only get made out of coal when under pressure.

The young man listened intently to the Interpol agent. It was indeed true that the Pokémon of the Canyon would track them down at this rate, and that they needed a place to catch their breath in order to keep up. Given that Vishy was one of their top attackers, they'd need a place with water... water... where could he find water?

"Y-You're right. I-I just... I just-- i-it's kinda dehumanizing to be separated from yer home like this. It feels so... weird... g-gimme a sec--"

Trying his best not to get a headache, Koa knelt by the front of the tunnel, right where Rebel was digging. The spunky Gabite even stopped to check on his Trainer, but he just needed that moment to focus. Through his mind, a mental map of the Canyon opened up, the point of view shifting and moving in all directions to revisit their entire path, and every nook and cranny he could think of...

"I-I've got it!"

How did he NOT think of THAT before?

"Rebel! Take us east!", belted out the hopeful Dragon whisperer, pointing in his desired direction with a previously unseen confidence. The wise guide from the start of the day was back... perhaps strengthened by this hardship, even! The Dragon/Ground type perked up, immediately shifting his tectonic energy towards the right wall of the tunnel, making a rightward turn in an instant!

"You know the cave system, right? The one that takes you all the way to the Totem's lair? I can see it now-- there's an underground lake in there! Just what we needed!"

Now it was just a matter of time to see whether Koa's gamble had paid off or not. Were his orientation skills up to the task after all?

Natalia nodded, wanting to continue keeping up the calm facade she had, despite the worry that her Ferrothorn won't be able to keep the earth above them and they'd ultimately get buried underneath. Her Ferrothorn groaned in exasperation, clearly getting even more impatient as she can feel her energy draining.

After hearing Koa's exclamation, Natalia let out a sigh of relief and she was able to follow Koa, her Ferrothorn mirroring her sigh but to a more impatient degree.

As the Gabite dug his way through the earth and the two humans and a tired Ferrothorn followed, Rebel finally broke ground after digging up in a slant. Next to them on their right was a deep body of water, which lead around in what seemed to be a u-turn to the other side of a cave wall. Thankfully, they didn't break ground under the lake. To their left were large stone fixtures and boulders. Some of these boulders were small enough to be moved by a Pokemon with Strength, however there were some Pokemon nearby. Their growls could be heard towards the only two exits they could possibly reach without going over the body of water.

Natalia immediately came out, returned her spent Ferrothorn, and sent out Dracovish, whose light shot towards the water. The Dracovish landed in the water with a splash, and bubbles began to leave the tank as it refilled itself with the lake's water. It only took a few seconds before the Dracovish swam his head up, then struggled to get back onto the hard ground. He set his head against the hard floor and pulled up his dinosaurian body, his stumpy legs gripping at the edge before finally he could stand on solid ground. His eyes were now clear and dilated big, showing some form of lucidity in the creature's mind.

He was alert, and he was letting out a bubble-like growl.

Natalia looked to Koa, a smirk rising on her face. "Good job, Koa. I'm gonna need your help." She pointed to the earth formations and the boulders. "Got any Pokemon who can push those boulders? Preferably knowing Strength? If there's enough of those boulders, we can move them in such a way so as to block any Pokemon from getting to us. Don't worry about the Pokemon attacking us, we gotcha covered." She gave Koa a more confident thumbs up and a wink, with Dracovish blubbing in agreement, his eyes fixated on the noises coming from one of their exits.

Koa couldn't help but sigh with relief at the fact that they had finally gotten to a safe place. His orientation skills had shown results, and his pride as a native guide and scout was now stronger than ever! As he got out of the hole with Natalia, Koa returned Rebel, not before lightly petting the Gabite's forehead as a show of appreciation for some hard work. He clearly needed some rest after so much digging. The young man watched how Vishy replenished his water system, finding such a contraption strange, but he was at least glad that it was beneficial for the Pokémon.

"Strength? Hmm... not quite, buuuut I do have an idea!" Said Koa, responding to Natalia's inquiry on a way to displace the boulders. He knew this idea might not be quite as liked by his partner, but it was the best shot they had... taking out another Poké Ball, Koa sent out Mo-o once again, who roared proudly, expecting to see an opponent... to then witness an empty cave. The Dragon/Fighting type turned around to meet Koa's gaze, scales chiming, seemingly expecting an explanation. "Alright buddy, can ya give us a good ol' boogie?"

As soon as the trainer gave this command, Mo-o growled with that looked like disappointment, air blowing out of his nostrils. Koa patted his neck gently. "C'mooon, I know you don't take pride in powerin' up like this-- but we need it to get these rocks out of the way! Whaddaya say? I'll make sure to give ya a Malasada later!" As soon as he mentioned a Malasada, the Kommo-o made a slightly more pleased growl, taking a few steps forward to face the boulder. After waiting for the thumbs-up from Koa, apparently this being a sort of tradition between the two for this particular ritual, Mo-o began a tribalistic dance, mashing his fists on his chest and swinging his tail. This was different from the somatic performance that lead to a use of Clangorous Soul-- this dance was more primal, more brutish, yet refined and majestic in its own right. By the end, the pseudo-legendary Pokémon was engulfed in a powerful aura of Dragon energy. To Natalia, this would obviously look like a Dragon Dance.

"Cool beans! Now give it yer best shot!" Koa clapped for his partner, clearly admiring the performance, as the now buffed Mo-o used his newfound strength to push the boulder out of the way into the desired position.

Natalia watched Koa's idea come to life as he sent out his Kommo-o again and giggled at his partner's reluctance at doing the 'good ol' boogie'. She snickered, shaking her head and just simply watching the two interact before he finally used something she would consider being something like Dragon Dance. The imaginative beat Mo-o was dancing to was enough to even make Vishy want to dance, thumping on the ground rather awkwardly but still enjoying the show. As the boulder was pushed, a Hakamo-o with glowing red eyes and an orange aura spilling from its form appeared off to the side.

Pointing at it, Natalia voiced her command. "Psychic Fangs!" Vishy's teeth became cloaked in a mystical pink and blue forcefield before he charged, his beady eyes honed in on the Hakamo-o. The Dragon/Fighting-Type's arms became cloaked in a soft light and Natalia had seen that before. "Cancel! Hip check!" She even did the accompanying hip movement, bumping her hip out with a mischievous smile. From the command, Vishy's teeth stopped glowing as he bit down on air and he slammed his hip into the Hakamo-o's awaiting form. Because it wasn't an actual attack, the Hakamo-o was unable to counter it effectively and it was pushed into the wall.

"Now!" Vishy's teeth went back to that mystical field of psychic energy as he bit down on the Hakamo-o's arm, earning a screech of pain and rage before the scaly dragon was thrown by the flick of Vishy's head towards the exit.

Natalia pointed to another boulder as she caught up to Koa. "Alright, that one, too. Once that's done, I can post Brutus and Vishy at the only entrance they can go through as a sort of guard post and chokepoint. Then we can finally relax." Once Koa understood, she ran to her Pokemon's side and commanded him to attack the next Pokemon that walked in - a Lycanroc.

"We're almost there, Mo-o! Just push, puuuush--!" Koa motivated his partner, who had gathered new strength thanks to the Dragon Dance ritual, pushing on the boulder until the point where it was fully displaced, leaving more space for the other side. The Dragon/Fighting type panted, with a proud smirk on his face, scales jingling with a somewhat muted, yet happy tune. But neither of them could rest, as Natalia came to warn Koa of yet another boulder they had to get out of the way -- and time was running out.

"Got it. It'll be gone in a flash, I tell ya!" The aspiring Dragon specialist signaled for the Kommo-o to follow him, both of them making their way towards the remaining boulder as fast as they could. Yet, right as they arrived, a small band of Pokémon was ready to welcome them!

"Dang! C'mon, Mo-o -- give 'em a Sky Uppercut!" The young man directed, as the jolly beast delivered a roaring blow to a wayward Boldore that made it soar and slam into the cave's ceiling, causing the remaining Carbink and Sableye to sneak away from the action in fear of Mo-o's power. Wasting no time with this, Koa instructed his partner to proceed with moving the last boulder.

Mo-o roared as he pressed his grip on the enormous rock. The draconic combatant pushed and pushed... taking a little longer than expected. Not completely unpromted, as this one seemed larger. Koa's concern grew by the second, but he knew this was no time to lose hope in his friend.

"You can keep goin' -- I'm sure of it! Natalia and Vishy are doin' their best, let's not let 'em down! Just a lil' bit more, bud...!"

In between cries of support, Koa looked back at the scene of the battle, hoping things wouldn't get ugly.

Natalia was hearing Koa motivate his partner, and honestly it was kind of adorable. She found herself grinning and even Koa's motivation for his partner unintentionally motivated Vishy, who gurgled as more Pokemon came through behind the Lycanroc, the pale brown, quadrupedal Midday form.

The Lycanroc roared, causing the Rockruff to charge, teeth alight with crackling lightning or cloaked in darkness or bodies cloaked in white light as they quickly charged to attack first. The Quick Attacks landed, causing Vishy to growl and try to bite at the offenders but they bounced back. The nearby scuffle Mo-o and Koa found themselves in and the subsequent flying Boldore had Natalia chuckling. It was time to send out another Pokemon.

"Kiriki!" She threw a Dusk Ball, sending out her Bisharp, who landed in front of the Dracovish. "Vishy, rest up for the moment. Kiriki, Swords Dance-Iron Head." As she returned the Dracovish, the Bisharp's head blade began to glow a steely color, and her arm blades shone with a bright light. The blades grew just slightly as she hypnotically danced, using this dance to push back against the Rockruff who tried pouncing at her with Fire Fang, Crunch, and Quick Attack. Every once in a while, she'll slam her head down or swipe it to the side, catching an unfortunate Rockruff off guard and sending it into the floor or the wall - leaving a crater at the impact. She even kicked the downed Rockruff back. The Lycanroc lunged after trying to calculate where to even start to attack this unstoppable dancing force, only to suddenly have its face be met with an Iron Head, sending it to the floor.

"Brick Break!" Kiriki's arm and her armblade glowed a rusty red, and she sent it down on the Lycanroc, causing it to yelp in agony. With a well-aimed kick, the Lycanroc was sent flying towards the entrance. Battered, bruised, and cut, the Lycanroc barked a high-pitch, the Rockruff running out of the entrance with the limping Lycanroc in tow.

"There..." Natalia sighed, walking to the now completed camp area Koa and his Mo-o made. She beamed, clearly proud. "Hell yeah." She grinned, returning Kiriki, who set her hands together and bowed before disappearing in the light. She then sent out two other Pokemon, Vishy landing with a chirp and her Toxapex, Brutus, swaying his tentacles and making a warble before the two stood at their posts, protecting the entrance.

"Finally..." Finding a good spot to sit down as she set her backpack down, she sat and then laid down, grunting as she bonked her head a little too hard on the rock. She rubbed the back of her head, grunting. "Ow..." Sighing, she watched the rock ceiling, the warm air feeling a lot cooler in here. "Thanks, Koa. Mo-o." She smiled up at the two. "Now, we can relax for a second. Catch a break. Think once we got the energy for it."

She pulled her backpack to rest her head on, her eyes lidding from tiredness. "Hey, Koa. When we get out of here, wanna come with to a region of your choice? I can't remember if I asked this earlier, but hey. I can't help but remember how interested you were in everything I said and having all those questions, which it's easier to explain if I were just to take you on a little adventure. Hey, you might find more Pokemon to bring home and show off to your parents and become a great Dragon-Type Trial Captain, too. Maybe get a few badges to show off your skills. Hell, maybe become a Kahuna of Poni Island if you want." She chuckled, unsure if he truly wanted to go that route, but it was a funny thought. While he didn't say specifically he wanted to be a Dragon-Type Trial Captain, with the way he and Mo-o worked and with how many Dragon-Types he had on his team, it was safe to say he wanted to change up modernity. She's never met an Alolan so interested in learning more, too. And how he talked about explaining fossil revivification to his parents made it seem like he wanted to move towards the modern things in the world and not be so stuck in the traditional side of things. "Pretty sure Kahuna Hapu is looking to retire, right?" She snickered.

Kiriki's dance of blades motivated Mo-o further in his pushing of the boulder. As the Dark/Steel type fought back against the aggressors, the Kommo-o finally gave his final push, forming an encampment for both Trainers and their Pokémon to take refuge. Wasting no time, Koa signaled for his partner to book it into their enclosure. As soon as everyone was safe, the hulking, scale-clad creature slouched over one of the boulders to catch his breath, panting hard through those enormous nostrils. Koa himself was no different, finding a bit hard to get back into the swing of the situation as he patted his partner's leg.

"It's done, Mo-o. Thank. Let's get a sec of relief, 'aight...?" The young man lightly chuckled when Natalia's head bumped onto the rock. They were out of the hard place, but still backed to the stones after all. "We all did a great job, thanks to you and yer friends as well..." As Mo-o coiled on the floor much like a Stoutland, Koa found a spot to sit as well. Right when they were talking before, Natalia hadn't gotten to talk to him about everything she wanted, and some of those questions did hold a lot of meaning. The aspiring Dragon whisperer had to think carefully, especially during these formative years.

"Other regions..." Koa held his breath, amazed at the thought of traveling by itself, even. He knew there was so much beyond Alola, so many Pokémon to meet and stories to hear, as well as advancements to discover. "My immediate choice would be Johto, with the rich history it has... but I've heard a good thing or two about Unova as well. Bustlin' cities, but with a lotta heart behind them. I-I'm not sure how I'd tell my parents that I want to head out into the wider world just yet, but if we at least make it outta this one that's gotta be a sign, right?"

Indeed, Koa had only just met Natalia but they had already gone through a tough situation or two. If he was guiding her through these winding paths, maybe at least she could point him on where to go? Not just in the world... but in life as well. It was true that Koa had considered the idea of being a Dragon trial captain, the first one, even -- but so much as a Kahuna? The very idea was as ludicrous as it was oddly fascinating to the starstruck young man.

"W-Well, historically, the Dragon trial hasn't had a Captain -- the Totem is a simple being, as much as it is kind and powerful in equal measure. There's usually no test, only a battle... and that hasn't merited the need for a specialist to take care of the travellers who go into the Canyon, to prepare them for the fight ahead. Maybe human tradition is one thing... but what 'bout the hearts of Pokémon? Mo-o trusts me. Stretchy trusts me. Rebel trusts me, and Chomper is a mystery of life to many still, but he trusts me as well. If I can just give it a try, and show everyone just how much good a Captain for the Totem's trial would bring to the challenge... maybe it'll be worth it." He took a brief pause, believing he was talking too much at a time. Perhaps Natalia might've started to feel like an armchair psychologist at this point. "Then again, I'm already 16. If I take a trip to somewhere else, I might not have enough time to formerly be a Captain just yet... or maybe I can spend a year abroad, and make the best out of the rest of it 'til I find someone who can continue the Captain's duties?"

As soon as Natalia mentioned Hapu, Koa blinked, finding hard to believe the Interpol agent's words. His masking formal tone even came out for a second, marking how much of a tonal shift this was for him even as a thought. In the end, not even Koa could fathom the thought of being a Kahuna; even considering taking the position felt like an act of rebellion. "Hapu!? S-Surely you jest? She was just appointed, even you should know as much, Natalia!"

Natalia nodded at Koa's thanks, her mind just going empty from what they did. Soon, they'll have to make some food - preferably bland food that won't attract too many hungry Pokemon. Looking over, she saw how cute Mo-o looked, just coiled up and resting like that. She stretched her arms and legs, her body tense just from being in this situation and the adrenaline having flowed through her body.

Hearing Koa think about everything was kind of funny. Sitting up, she pulled off her backpack and began rummaging through, trying to find something bland-ish. She found some rice she cooked up earlier in several tupperwares, so she began making rice balls as he spoke. She smiled at his choices. Johto and Unova - in her opinion - were pretty great places to start. She chuckled when he said making it out of this mess was a sign to ask to leave, and she just nodded.

She listened as he spoke of being a captain for the Dragon-Type Trial. His wish and dream was incredibly spirited and sweet, she couldn't help but have a warm smile throughout. Though, his concerns were correct. She had almost forgotten about the Captains needing to be a bit young. She recalled the age limit was about twenty-two or something like that. Maybe twenty. She let him wonder about it, still making those rice balls when Koa sounded so bewildered that he even changed tone. It was such a stark contrast that it made her laugh, holding her hand to her forehead as she fell on her back and clutched her belly with the other arm, her laughter sounding like a wheezing, deflating balloon.

She giggled as she sat back up, her laughter still staying as she tried to calm herself down to speak, but it still persisted as she spoke. "Ah, yeah, I know. Hapu's just a kid." She giggled, her cheeks hurting from smiling so much. The more bubbly side of her personality came out as she sighed, shaking her head. "I kind of forgot about the whole age limit to be a trial captain. Though, if I do recall, it's like... What, twenty? It can't be eighteen, seems too young to put the limit there. If we do go to Johto, Unova, or both, traveling around the regions shouldn't take too long. I blitzed through one region in under a year - about six months. Then again, I had my full team then and I wasn't doing any gym challenges, I was just sight-seeing. And even then, I could have gotten all the badges in that region in under a month if I tried, I just won't be doing any league tournament challenges. My passion is seeing the connection spark within a battle or a scenario such as this, not doing so for glory or rewards. I like seeing how the Pokemon connect with their trainers and how the trainers connect with each other - whether it be a clash of rivals, mortal enemies, or friends just having fun and helping one another." She leaned back as she looked up at the rocky ceiling again, sighing.

"Johto and Unova are good picks, though Unova might be some culture shock due to how lively it is. Still, they are both chock-full of culture. There's Opelucid City, the city where past and future intertwine. The gym leader there is Drayden, a Dragon-Type specialist. And in Johto, there's Claire in Blackthorn City, the town of quiet mountains. The city also is home to the Dragon's Den, which being there is an honor in and of itself." She held such a wistful tone to her voice, full of reverence. She then stood up after grabbing napkins and a bundle of food in a tupperware she set the rice balls in, continuing. "Though, they are both the last gym leaders you face in the gym challenge circuit, you can fight them out of order. Their badges are pretty cool, too." She walked over to Koa, giving him a few rice balls. "This should help tie us over. They're a bit bland, but I'd rather be safe than attract a bunch of hungry, agitated Pokemon to the smell." She then set a napkin down next to Mo-o and sat some bigger rice balls on it, patting Mo-o on his head scale to let him know food was there, as well as to reward him for a job well done.

She then stood back up and went to her own Pokemon, feeding her Dracovish and Toxapex from her hands before going back to her spot, pulling out a couple of her PokeBalls and sending out her Ferrothorn and Bisharp, who looked slightly winded. She then gave them rice balls for them to eat, the Ferrothorn grumbling about its taste but eating it anyway, while the Bisharp hummed in thanks, bowed politely, and ate her fill.

Almost forgetting about Rebel, she walked back to Koa with a couple more rice balls. "Oh, and this is for your Gabite, for digging us out of that mess. I didn't want to forget about him."

She then sat back down nearby, pulling out her own couple rice balls. "Trying to change tradition with modernist ways is a big change. I support you in your endeavors, just be careful. I think there is a way to marry tradition and modernism together without treading on the toes of those who are heavily conservative about traditions. At least, not by too much. You could probably change it up a bit, have a trial of doing something that has to do with the Pokemon of the lands before they get to battle you or the Totem Kommo-o." She suggested, wondering if he could garner some ideas from that.

"Yeah, so that means I have roughly 3 or 4 years to get to where I want to get... by then, I'd have to find someone else to replace me. But-- I-I think I can do that if I just see more of the world! It's about getting experience, right? Trial Captains are authorities in their own right. Maybe goin' to these new places, learnin' new things... that might be the key to being a more confident Trainer overall!" Koa listened with great wonder as Natalia described these places he had only heard of in passing, so alien to the sheltered kid who had rarely been outside of Poni.

Opelucid City, despite being in a place with apparently a large deal of culture shock, spoke so much to Koa. A place that combined tradition and modernity... and a Dragon specialist acted as Gym Leader there, as well? What a stellar man he must be, to lead the city's dragon-infested Gym! But, Blackthorn City wasn't any lesser at all, either. The young man's father had once mentioned the dragon master Lance and his cousin, the ever competitive Clair. The Dragon's Den must've held fascinating secrets to mold both of them into such powerful Trainers... could Koa ever tap into this same mystery?

"I believe I can understand your point of view there, Natalia", he said, as he watched how the Interpol agent worked on the rice balls. "Battlin' is a very deep experience -- why reduce yourself to a prize? "Honor over glory" is a motto my dad uses from time to time, so I guess that's been passed down, but that's not me rejectin' the idea of doin' a Gym challenge -- those shiny badges must be pretty cool to collect, but those big tournaments aren't for me. Mo-o, Rebel and the others... they have combat in their veins. That's somethin' you can't compare a cash reward's value on. What are all the trophies in the world against the... how do I say it... balance of wills between Pokémon and humans as partners? Ya know, when you're raring to go! True strength, acquired with trust, hard work, and keepin' true to oneself. A-Although, those stadium matches do sound fun, in all honesty..."

Mo-o was almost fully asleep, but Natalia's pat, as well as the offering of a rice ball, woke up the gentle giant. He squinted, letting out a groggy gurgle before standing up, looking down at the... tasty? Treat in front of him. The Kommo-o snorted, looking back to Koa, as if pondering whether he could eat it. The Trainer returned the gesture with a look of trust. "Yeah, that one's for you, Mo-o."
With those words, the Dragon/Fighting type let out a happy growl of thanks before digging in. Due to his size, it didn't last too long against the scaly fighter's maw.

"Thanks, Natalia! I swear I must've brought a snack or two with me, but Mo-o does like a good rice ball from time to time, and -- oh, you made one for Rebel too? That's like, double awesome!" Without a second to spare, Koa took out the Gabite's Poké Ball and, in a flash, the spunky digger was there. Rebel growled with pride, then looked from side to side, almost as if looking for an enemy, before finding the rice ball. Unlike the thoughtful Mo-o, Rebel looked at the snack maliciously and took it off of Natalia's hands, gobbling it up in no time.

"I appreciate the sentiment. I know it's not really easy to do, and it's not like I want to be too blunt... I guess it's about takin' initiative. If we can get to the bottom of this mess, it means I know this place and its Pokémon inside and out, and I can defend them, right? I'm sure the Totem will understand what I mean. After that, it's up to the Island Challenge staff... but I can start by guidin' people out of my own accord, just like what I've been doin' today already." The challenge itself... was a thing Koa hadn't thought much about, however. It was smart of Natalia to bring it up. "Oh, I actually... hadn't thought of it that much! Just a battle wouldn't cut it, so maybe... what if we have the trialgoers track down a specific species by their footprints, or their behaviour in general? Say, waitin' for the time the Murkrow come out of their nests... and when they've proven themselves against that particular opponent, the Totem could test them. Might need a bit of work, buuuut knowing the path is essential to reachin' the destination, I believe."

Koa's words of confidence for himself had given Natalia a silly smile. He had the right idea, he just needed a little nudge to start exploring. Which was why she spoke of Blackthorn City and Opelucid City. Both had Dragon-Typed gym leaders who Koa could meet and enjoy the culture of their cities before taking what he learned and moving on. It was also good that her and Koa (and Koa's father) held the same sentiment. Honor over glory was something that Natalia followed to an extent, but to her it was learning and having fun over some shiny trinket or money. She chuckled when he said the badges were cool to collect, and then went from saying he wasn't into the tournaments but then said stadium matches looked fun.

He was so all over the place, but she got the guy excited. How could she blame him?

Mo-o being groggy and getting permission to eat first had Natalia suppressing a sound of adoration. Arceus, Mo-o was just too cute. Just like a little puppy. And she laughed when Rebel practically snatched it right out of her hands. At least they were okay with the food, unlike her Ferrothorn, who was still eating it with some reluctance.

What made Natalia feel a bit better was hearing he was aware of blending two opposing lifestyles together. His fate seemed like it was going to come full circle at some point. When he began brainstorming about the challenge, Natalia just chuckled, feeling like that would be cool, but she felt like there was an element missing. "Hm, that's cool. I feel like something's missing, but knowing how to track the target Pokemon is a good start. Knowing the path to reach the destination, you can be cruel and have them traverse Poni Canyon, or at least the cave portions, completely blind. Or try to find a particular Pokemon by sound and track it blind." She shrugged, staring up at the ceiling as she yawned.

"It's good to have met you. Not just because you've been helping me out, but you've been a kind heart and fun to be around. You're a good guy. When we find the problem, I'll let you and Mo-o fight or calm the Totem Pokemon. That way, the Totem Pokemon will give you and Mo-o more respect for helping him out. I feel like we'll need Rebel's digging ability once again when we get there. An idea I have to get underneath the Totem Pokemon's cave into the chamber I'm assuming is underneath would be to make our own digging, but if the sound is the actual Pokemon with what I heard down there and not anything else, that might be a bad idea until we get that thing knocked out. That thing should be a Steelix. Steel- and Ground-Type, weak to Fire, Water, Fighting, and Ground. That whinnying was a Kantonian Rapidash, a Fire-Type." She touted off matter-of-factly, yet her voice sounded monotone, as if she was just spouting facts to keep herself awake.

Which was explained as she chuckled to herself. "Ah, I don't want to sleep." Sighing, she closed her eyes. "We should get at least some form of a nap."

"Aw shucks, Natalia -- you're really cool yourself, ya know? I've still got a long way to go, so I hope to live up to those expectations..."

The young Trainer couldn't help but feel a bit embarrassed, though rather honored, when he received Natalia's praise. Though they had already gone through a bunch of dangers, this whole day still had gone very fast for Koa, and the adrenaline began enacting its toll on the wannabe dragon expert. Almost as a response to the Interpol agent's own sleepiness, Koa's eyelids were progressively getting heavier. However, he could fight back the energy drain by pondering his hypothetical trial for a bit longer.

"O-Oh, I dunno if I wanna be cruel... but ya have the right idea there! Learnin' a Pokémon's cries, maybe findin' footprints... how 'bout a trail? I could make some kinda hunt, all over the Canyon, to find... let's say, three different Pokémon? They'd all go to different areas, and the trialgoer's job would be to track them down and defeat each of them in a battle. The trick is, each Pokémon has to be different in nature, say a Flying type would mean the trialgoers would have to get higher up the Canyon to find their nests..." Koa yawned in reflex to Natalia's own yawn. "Oops! Pardon me, it's contagious."

Mo-o knew what was up, getting ready to curl up with Koa, almost as a cushion for his partner. Rebel seemed a bit disappointed, not quite having lost any energy after that snack. Koa patted the Gabite's back scales to comfort him. "I think Natalia wants to catch a snooze... might be a good thing if we all do." Rebel growled in protest, almost disappointed at how mellow his trainer had gotten. Koa simply chuckled, replying with a proposal to compromise. "How 'bout ya watch the camp for us, then? Give it a big roar if somethin' comes up!" That got the Dragon/Ground type's attention, and he soon started happily stomping his way up to the middle of the cave clearing.

Natalia explained all sorts of Pokémon Koa had never seen before... he briefly wondered what a Rapidash was. The sound it made was similar to a Mudsdale -- so Koa promptly imagined what a Mudsdale that was on fire would look like. It was rather hard to picture such a peaceful, upstanding Pokémon such as Mudsdale suddenly getting a dose of fiery energy, though.

Satisfied with this result, Koa laid his head down on one of the Kommo-o's back scales. The Dragon/Fighting type calmly blew some air out of his nostrils as the young man did so, and Natalia might've gotten the impression that they had done this before. Koa gave the Interpol agent just one more look. "So... quick nap? I can do that. Rebel will be ready to dig anytime, he doesn't like naps. After we get out of here... I'll do my best to reach the Totem's heart. I promise."
