This tutorial uses Microsoft Paint (Actually fairly useful for sprite comics...) and Microsoft Photo Editor. (But Photoshop and Paint Shop Pro etc work fine too)

Photo Editor was to load the sprite sheets into and copy the sprite i wanted from. Then I pasted it into paint over a BG i'd already pasted in and voila.

For transparency in Paint copy and paste one of the sprites from the sprite sheet and put it onto a blank spot of the bitmap.

Next select a colour you don't intend to use, ever. So Black and White shouldn't be selected, something at the other end of the spectrum instead.

Select the dropper tool and both right and left click on the background from the sprite. Go to 'Colours'>>> 'Edit Colours' and add the colour to the custom colours. (You may have to expand the menu thing)

Now the original colour you picked has been replaced by the colour you want. Keep the background colour (right clicked) to the background colour of the sprites and highlight/delete the sprite you copied in earlier.

When you paste next make sure you select the second option for the highlight box, with a dotted line around some shapes and voila, the background's gone and you have Paint's slow but effective method of transparency.

If you use Photoshop or PSP however you'll not need such a rigmorole to do it. It will be easier with those but Paint works effectively enough.

Please submit Sprite Comics in PNG format only. To get PNG format after using paint, highlight all of the sprite comic (Ctrl+A) and paste it into a new Photo Editor file.

Highlight the sprite comic from border to border and right click>>>> Crop.

If you want another tutorial or the template for the border frames for the 4 panel strips, check out Bob And George's tutorial:

http://www.bobandgeorge.com/Other/Guides/Spritecomics.html

This year's Competition wants you to use 4 panels, so you can use that if you wish.

See the first post, that should explain everything.

Also, although Paint is the easiest programme to use for sprite comics, Photoshop etc are very good for SFX (transparent speech bubbles, glowy stuffs, realistic lightning etc). So be creative. ;)

I'm using paint shop pro, and I need to know how to put sprits in your posts ( oh, and linkachu, once I know how, I've made a Lightning sword, bow, and arrow).

Check this topic out: http://www.pokecharms.com/forums/smf/index.php?topic=1231.0

I've explained a lot of questions like this in my first post, so hopefully it'll help.

^^
I have two tutorials a Pokeball one and a Glow one

I hope their useful to new spriters or ppl who dont know how to do them.

Actually, there is no use copy/pasting a paint document into photo editor for a PNG, simply click the 'save as file type' drop down list and select PNG, then save.
