Misty was just as much background material as Brock was, especially during the Johto arc where she hardly did anything. She hardly ever battled and basically bombed almost all her battles, when it wasn't Psyduck popping out. I honestly don't think Misty ever had a single epic battle in the show.

I don't think the writers care about Misty at all anymore, to be honest. DP is ending and she didn't get a single appearance, and she might not appear at Pallet Town either.

Most fans didn't like Misty in the Johto arc, I'm not surprised they pretty much abandoned her like they did to Tracey.
