Rosette saw the obelisk growing bigger, and the mass of people gathered around it faded into view. “We’re almost there, Amp!” In her arms, Ampère, the Mareep, bleated in agreement, though he seemed unusually on edge.
Suddenly, the board jerked underneath her, slowing to a stop. Rosette hugged Ampère tighter, her body tilting dangerously close to falling forward. Without looking down, she asked, “Hey, Battery. Everything okay down there?”
The Rotom’s main body emerged from underneath, head darting from side to side, as if in search of something. They gave the hoverboard another few tugs, gently depositing their trainer on a rooftop, before tugging their limbs of plasma out of the hoverboard.
“Wait a minute, you little—” Rosette reached uselessly out to grab at Battery’s body. The Rotom dodged, darting their way to the space above the front of the crowd. When Rosette followed her partner’s stare, she blanched. I’m not just imagining it, right? The shouts from the crowd dispelled that belief.
