Ask to Join Pokemon XD: Return to Shadow

Alex watched from the small tunnel into the stadium with bright brown eyes as two elite trainers battled with their incredibly strong pokemon. A Venusaur was launching leafy attacks at a Dragonite as it soared around the battlefield. As the dragon temporarily haulted to launch its own attack, the Venusaur began quickly charging a glowing attack within the flower on its back. There was a cry from the Dragonite's trainer, but there was little it could do to avoid the Solar Beam launched towards it at light speed. It hit the ground hard, and the fight resumed at ground level.

"Rhy," Alex's pokemon broke her trance with its deep rumbling voice and a soft bump of its rocky head against her leg. Still nearly falling over, she quickly recovered and looked down at Ryan, who seemed a bit nervous.

"Don't worry bud, I'm sure our first battle won't be nearly so intense," she smiled, rubbing its head. "Maybe one day we'll be as strong as those guys, though." Looking up, she could see other beginner league competitors standing around with their own pokemon, many of them a few years younger than herself. It didn't bother her much, though, she had known coming into this that she was going to be the late bloomer. That just meant she could prove herself by rising even quicker through the ranks.

Her attention was drawn back to the battle at the sound of loud gasps and a few screams. However, it was not the sound of an awestruck crowd, but a sound of terror. On the battlefield had appeared a strange man, tall and clad in a dark cloak covering most of his body, up to his chin, with his only really defining features his long, electric blue hair and golden eyes, standing between the two battling pokemon, who were looking a bit shocked. Beside him was... it seemed to be an Alakazam, but there was something strange about it. It hovered over the ground with a large white beard and several spoons floating over its head. It emanated a dark essence that unsettled Alex and just about everyone one else around.

"What's going on?" she muttered as Ryan took a few steps forward, seeming to put itself between the pokemon and his trainer.

"Welcome!" the stranger boomed, "To the new age of Cipher!" The man produced a strange purple pokeball from his cloak, his hand shiny and metallic beneath it. Suddenly, he launched the ball at the Venusaur, a wicked spin on it and casting an odd orange glow from his hand. The ball hit the pokemon and fell open, and for a moment, nothing happened, and all was silent.

"HA! Don't you know you can't-" The Venusaur's trainer started, but his words died in his throat as his pokemon glowed white, and disappeared into the other pokeball. The crowd went crazy, outraged and horrified shouts echoing around the stone structure. The other trainer in the ring reacted quickly, his Dragonite launching a powerful Dragon attack at the strange man and his pokemon. The shadowy mega pokemon reacted with incredible speed, matching the attack with a dark purple energy of its own, splitting the attack like a hot knife slicing through butter and crashing into the dragon, sending it flying into its trainer. The odd man had picked up the pokeball with the Venusaur, ignoring its shocked former trainer and seeming not to care about the attack that had been made on him. As he turned back, he launched another ball at the Dragonite, easily capturing it.

At this point, it seemed everyone had snapped out of their stupor, and many spectators began scrambling to leave. However, the man began to walk rather calmly away from the battle, followed by his pokemon, as a large group of people rushed into the coliseum, all dressed in similar outfits (official Pokemon XD art). They produced their own shadowy looking pokemon, beginning to terrorize the frantic audience.

Alex watched with a bit of horror at first, then her face hardened. "We have to help!" she declared, turning to the other beginning trainers. Not waiting for a response, she flung a leg over her Rhyhorn. "Let's go help!" she ordered. The pokemon didn't so much as hesitate to charge out into the ring, not even waiting for his trainer to get off before launching a Horn Attack at a Hoothoot. Suddenly, Alex found herself facing down both the pokemon and its trainer, who looked surprised and a bit angry to see anyone daring to retaliate.

"What do you think you're doing, girl?!" he yelled angrily at her, as his pokemon launched a shadow attack right at Ryan.

The sudden appearance of the man with the Alakazam and his group of gaudily-dressed cronies had quickly stunned Isaac. He was expecting a normal start, maybe some battles with the other beginners, but a girl older than him had quickly jumped into the fray. Well, he did want a battle...

Isaac quickly released Pixel the Porygon, and jumped into the ring, landing in front of a grunt wielding a Pidgey around like it was a true threat. It seemed different, so Isaac was taking no chances. "Pixel, use Psybeam!" The Pidgey took the hit, shaking it off quickly as it fought back with a gust of black wind, a move he had never seen before.

Kathleen watched as two of the trainers started to attack the bad ones. "You wanna help?" She asked her snivey, grace. "Sni-sni!" Grace exclaimed nodding her head. Kathleen smirked as they rushed into battle. She pulled out her poket knife and swong it. Kathleen narrowly missed one of the trainers with a messed up poochena. The trainer backed away stunned with the fact the girl attracted her directly. Grace ran in and used tackel on the poochena. Kathleen then took another swing at the trainer cutting up his cheek.

"Naw."

That's what Quint had to say about what he was seeing on the TV screens. Some gaudy man had popped out of nowhere, alongside some yellowish purple like creature, with something that could be compared to a handlebar mustache hung loosely from it's snout. It might of been one of those Alakawhatzits, he'd seen them in a couple Colosseum battles before, but they never stuck out to him compared to the bulkier beasts like Charizard, or a Dragonite, one like the one Quint swore he saw the gaudy man scoop up into a Pokeball. But that couldn't of happened, it was all smoke and mirrors...a publicity stunt! Yeah.

Something nervously grappled on to his leg, however. "Patton? What're you spooked about?"

It was another gaudy man, and a little purple bird. A Taillow, if he remembered right. But they were usually black and white, odd enough. One of those shinies? "Patton, don't worry. He's just an actor-" The gaudy man cackled a bit, perhaps humored by Quint's assumption, before he pointed his bird to the Chespin by the lanky boy's leg. The Taillow charged for Quint and Patton, talons wide and sharp.

"-Perhaps not! Patton, use...something!" Quint wasn't good at quick situations, and the young Chespin wasn't much better. But he managed to hold it back for a moment with a Vine Whip. "Good work boy! Strike em' with a Tackle!" Patton charged back at the temporarily stunned bird, hoping to keep it that way.

Keith, code name Blitz had been undercover, watching from the stadiums bleachers. He worked for Ciper as a pro Pokèmon snatcher and and had the skill to see a slight aura around shadow Pokèmon. For the soul perpose of this mission, Keith was lent a Blaziken to help deal with threats that his Ralts was incapable of taking care of. Keith wached all the battles unfold waiting for a good time to intervene.

While he was sitting down people in the stadium began to pack their things and rush to the entrance to demand a refund. Upon looking back down to the "main event" Keith noticed that the 4 kids that went to fight are pretty much done with the opponents. With an unenthusiastic sigh he stood up, put his black scarf over his face, turned on his visor, and leaped down to the battle arena. He looked closer at all the trainers and memorized their faces, and their Pokèmon. Then he noticed one lonely Cipher Peon with a Zigzagoon. "You fool!" Keith said "Go help your teamates take care of those guys, dont you see they're losing!" Keith shouted as one after another of the grunts began to fall.

Keith continued to walk towards the one battling a girl and her Ryhorn. "Sir, awaiting orders Sir!" he said giving the official Cipher salute.

Kathleen smirked as the grunt stumbled back putting his hand on his cut cheak. This was her moment of attack, Kathleen quickly kicked him down help the knife to his head just as grace finished with the poochena. "Leave" She replied as the grunt looked over to his pokemon. He quickly returned him pokemon and ran away. Kathleen then truned to her own pokemon. "You hurt grace?" She asked pokemon with wory. The snivey smiled and shook her head. "Thats good" Kathleen sighed before turning to the other trainers, "Its seems like they had there hands full"
