Private/Closed Pokémon Zaffre

Morty was surprised that the little bug could withstand repeated blows from Misdreavus. It was rather tenacious. Regardless, no one could beat him and his pokémon's unwavering discipline. The call of the swarm empowered their foe, but the gym leader wasn't perturbed; in an outright confrontation, the bug would fall all the same.

“Quickly, Astonish!”

Misdreavus wailed, its hair billowing and its eyes bulging as it released a wave of ghastly energy.

Its closeness meant that it couldn’t dodge the infestation, but Astonish was a weaker move and it was slightly faster to use. Morty was gambling that his move could land before Spinarak’s Protect and, if he was lucky, a well-timed flinch could seal this match. Misdreavus wouldn’t last much longer under the effects of infestation, and though Swarm had only turned a weak attack into a stronger weak attack, the damage still piled up over time.

Vence’s boosted Infestation latched onto Misdreavous just as it launched Astonish.
The small bug Pokémon was prepared for the attack, unfortunately, he still hadn’t quite mastered the activation of Protect and couldn’t get the barrier up before being blasted by Misdreavous’ energy.

“Vence!” Q yelped out as his Spinarak came rolling towards him in an unconscious heap. The young trainer just stared on at his downed Pokémon for a long moment. He wanted to give up so bad… he wanted to rush Vence to the pokecenter right away… but that’s not what they had trained for.

“Alright Vence, return and rest up. You did great…” The burgundy haired boys hand lingered over the pokeballs for both Lumos and Grendel for a moment, before he finally withdrew one and threw it out onto the field with a shout, “Lumos! Lead with Minimize!”

“Wik!” The small candle pokemon emerged with a valiant little roar as her already tiny body was cloaked in a white light that caused her to shrink down and lose about a quarter of her height.
Lumos looked on at the Infestation-coated Misdreavous, trying her hardest to muster up an intimidating expression.

Monty narrowed his eyes and decided the best course of action he could take was to shut down an annoying move like Minimize. “Go Misdreavus, Spite!”

Misdreavus floated backwards, the infestation ravaging her body as her ghastly hair flared about. She wailed a banshee’s wail; ghostly power seeking to restrict and cripple Litwick’s ability to utilize minimize or at the very least restrict the number of times it could use it.

Monty had decided to spend Misdreavus’ remaining time tilting the battle condition in his favor for his next pokémon.

Lumos could feel a bit of her own energy drain as Misdreavous called upon her otherworldly powers, but she was left undamaged and free to continue.

“Again, Lumos!” As Q commanded, Lumos used her, now slightly drained, Minimize.
Once again, Litwik’s body was cloaked in a white light as she shrunk down to roughly half the size she was upon entering the battle.
It was likely that Monty would go for Spite again, but if Lumos could pull off one more Minimize, they would maximize the little pokemons evasion.

“The moment he uses Spite, I’ll call for her last Minimize. We’ll just have to get lucky here…” Heavy beads of sweat could be seen forming on Q’s brow. While he had the mental fortitude and reaction speed to keep up, the stakes of the battle had been causing anxiety to build up slowly throughout the match.
The young man took slow, even breaths in an attempt to maintain his composure. He was down a Pokémon, but he wasn’t in a bad position just yet.

“Once more Misdreavus, Spite!” Morty repeated his command. Evasion-boosting moves were always an utter pain to deal with and the ghostly gym leader wanted to limit Litwick as much as he possibly could. With its evasion raised so high, it would be difficult to deal direct damage to Litwick after this, but Morty still had a trick or two up his sleeve that would potentially secure the win. He simply needed to prime the field for the entrance of his next pokémon.

Just as Q had predicted, Morty called for another Sprite in hopes of preventing Lumos from pulling off her last Minimize. The moment the words began to roll off of Morty’s tongue, Q interjected with a command of his own, “Minimize!”

Both Pokémon were illuminated by the glow of their attacks, creating a nice contrast of colors between the dark purple and snow white energies.
As the lights subsided, Q had to take a moment to refocus his eyes as he’d completely lost track of his Pokémons position.

“Wiiiiik~“ The candle pokemon let out a minuscule little roar as she confirmed that her last Minimize had, in fact, work.
Lumos now stood at about three inches tall.

“Alright. You know the deal- keep on the move and get in close for a Confuse Ray!” Despite not being very fast, Lumos appeared pretty speedy after being shrunk down to a quarter of her original height.
The small ghost Pokémon zipped across the field, performing a series of tiny dashes from side-to-side in hopes of making herself even harder to hit. As the gap closed, Lumos formed a tiny, orange orb between her hands and sent it flying towards the floating target.
All Q could do now is hope that Morty didn’t have any attacks that could get past their evasion.

Morty quieted as the final minimize was successfully utilized. With Litwick as maximum evasion, things would be a lot more difficult; but, it wasn’t the end for the Ecruteak gym leader. Instead, as Q made his call for Confuse Ray, Morty capitalized on that. Moving closer would allow Litwick’s confuse ray to land better, but the same would be true for Misdreavus. Once Litwick had closed in with evasive maneuvers, Morty made his call “Likewise Misdreavus, Confuse Ray!”

Ghastly lights drifted from the ghost-head pokémon a Morty sought to trade blows. Best case scenario, they would both be confused.

As the two ghost Pokémon traded Confuse Ray, Lumos dipped her tiny body down and to the right. She planted the Confuse Ray directly into Misdreavous’ ghostly body as the opposing blast flew harmlessly over the candle Pokémon's head.

“Alright Lumos, now use Ember and let it roll!” Q instructed, hoping to capitalize on the pairs close proximity. Lumos would proceed to shoot a small blast of heated air and popping embers, aimed directly for the confused ghosts face.

“Misdreavus, pull your wits together—psywave!” Dazed and distracted the floating head pokémon struck out, its psychic power backfiring before it was hit by ember. The steadily accumulated damage from infestation, combined with the dual blow of self-inflicted damage and ember finally wore Misdreavus thin and the ghastly pokémon drifted to the ground, knocked out.

Morty sighed, but he knew Misdreavus had done its best. “Return Misdreavus.”

Fortunately, all hope wasn’t lost. Despite the Litwick’s greatly increased evasion, Morty still had cards he could play. “Come on out, Gastly! Use curse!” As his final pokémon took to the field ominous energies immediately gathered as it focused on Litwick, sacrificing its energy to lay down a deadly curse.

Once the curse had been laid, Morty knew exactly what he needed to do—“Flee Gastly!”

The Ghost-type promptly turned tail and fled. Although litwick was now more evasive, its smaller body might hinder it from adequately pursing Gastly, and if they could keep their distance then the curse would lay their opponents low.
