Search for the Soul

The continent of Urigar was once a grand nation that was split into three. The Great War ended with the land spirits splitting the land into three, each becoming their own continents. The land of Iladan, the kingdom of the humans where nature takes it's rule over the cities of stone of its inhabitants. The living city of Aragorg, the world of Robots where the line between the digital and real worlds are blurred. And finally, the desolate crags of Burigaro, the land of monsters constantly enveloped in combat. The land spirits now rule their respective continents. Culix, spirit of nature, protects Iladan from the rest of the world with a humongous wall of water. Morigan, spirit of intelligence, governs the cyber-kingdom of the advanced robot society of Aragorg. And Fireus (Fie-rus), spirit of battle, watches over Burigaro and its monsters. The lands have been separated for ages, but an uprising draws near for the destined seven...

Kerid hopped down from the tree. He was in the forest, searching for any caves. He was an explorer, and a darned good one too. His plasma-crossbows were strapped to his belt, with a sword-hilt clipped onto his thigh. His brown track-pants and blue shirt marked him as a free spirit, and his green vest just added emphasis. The boy's rugged brown hair was held in place by a small bandanna, which just covered the hairline. His purple eyes glimmered as he caught sight of a cavern. "What's this?" he asked himself, inching closer. However, he turned around, crossbows in hand, as he saw the person behind him.

"My goodness Ammy. You're going to be just like my father, I can tell already." The girl smiled at her pure white wolf that padded next to her. In turn Ammy, the wolf, yawned greatly showing off the many rows of sharp canine teeth she had. The girl smiled as they approached the nearby stream. Quite frankly, the girl hated her reflection, but she wanted to look presentable in some way! She slipped and squeaked slightly as she fell into the river. Ammy rushed alongside the stream and carefully pulled the girl out, both of them soaking wet. 'Great job Winter. That was majestic' she thought to herself as Ammy shook out her fur and stared up at her. Winter, the huntress, smiled down at her companion and then checked her reflection. Despite her name, Winter looked and didn't even resemble anything to do with the season.

Winter had long black hair that flowed in an easy, laid-back way. It was loosely pulled up by a white ribbon that formed a ponytail. Her attire consisted of a worn long-sleeved shirt, black stretchy pant and tall brown boots that go mid-shin. A small belt on her hips displayed the difference between her torso and legs and held many pouches that served as bags, but the belt was the least flashy thing Winter was wearing. A brown strap went from her shoulder to her hip and back around, forming a sheath for arrows, and a bow was hanging from one shoulder. All her weapons Winter carried were plasma, with the exception of the hand knife she carries around to fight enemies immune to the plasma's effect.

Winter's grey eyes dazzled with relief as she finished drying out her hair. Her clothes were made to keep dry, especially in the damp, moist homeland she hailed from, so they kept fairly dry and the rest dried amazingly fast. Her plasma weapons were contained in a small case made of a special type of film to keep the plasma from shocking every single raindrop on the nearby leaves. Winter turned to Ammy, who was having her own difficulties drying out her fur, and knelt down. "Hey Ammy, you do remember what we are after, right? We don't have time to let your fur dry at this point... I'm sorry." She apologized to her white wolf who groaned slightly and seemingly nodded her head in understanding. With that confirmation Winter stood up and started to trek through the nature filled area.

About halfway to their destination, Winter stopped dead. Ammy crouched slightly and let out a low, threatening growl. The red eyes of the white wolf glowed with anticipation and readiness, but Winter's couldn't match the confidence Ammy had. Winter's own grey eyes flashed with occasional confidence, but then returned to its usual alert look. Slowly Winter pulled her hand back and tugged at the bow on her back. It came free and able to be used, so she slowly brought it in front of her and grabbed an arrow. Winter knocked the arrow and held in safe mode while she gazed around the tree filled area. The river was many miles from here, for Winter had astounding endurance. 'Its a Cougar, isn't it?' Winter thought as she brought her bow up and prepared to fire. The wolves and the Cougars of her homeland were at war constantly, but not in the way most would expect.

Finally the enemy revealed it's self. Winter's prediction was right; It was a cougar. Winter fired her arrow and twisted around before she could confirm if the weapon hit. Winter ran back towards the river where she came from with Ammy right on her heels. "Ammy! There is no way there is just one! Keep alert!" Winter called back to her wolf, and she wasnt a second too soon. She screeched to a halt as four other cougars surrounded Ammy and her with the obvious intent to kill. 'Will I have to?..." Winter thought and shuddered at her last resort in this battle. Ammy growled with ferocity before leaping at two cougars and locking in battle. Winter's hand raced to her knife, but she found it was gone. The precious close-combat weapon was dangling from a cougar's mouth right next to her; so close that Winter could feel the feline's breath on her cheek. Ammy squeaked as she saw the situation Winter was in and started to try and finish her own brutal fight to aid Winter. The girl held up her hand in a motion to stop before nodding silently and whispering curses under her breath.

Winter wasn't a human.... but a Monster.

When the 'girl' stood she no longer resembled a human. Instead a black wolf stood there, power waving off it's pelt. The Wolf had tall grey fur up her legs and under her tail. The white spread a bit to her nose and forehead as well. Ammy glanced over and saw what Winter became and sighed gently, knowing how much of a toll this form took on Winter. Winter, in her wolf form, lurched forward with a growl. She slashed and batted at the cougars all the while protecting her bow and weapons she dropped to make herself more agile. Winter howled in pain as she was bit in the flank, but she swiftly turned around and bit the feline right back. Finally it was over; the fight barely lasted 10 minutes, but it was all the same agonizing to both a battle worn Ammy and Winter. The pure white wolf padded up to Winter and gave a tentative sniff before quickly pulling back and lurching away. Winter's grey eyes were full of origin-less hatred and a will to fight. After a few tense moments of the friends simply staring at one another, Winter fell over and landed on her side with a sickening thump. Ammy loped back to her friend, who had returned to her human-like state.

Ammy found herself carrying Winter through the darkening forest. Her ears were perked and alert, but her eyes were tired and worn. A cavern was visible up ahead and Ammy decided it was a good idea to find a place to rest. In her sleepy state, Ammy didn't even notice the human boy until she was in full view; with a beaten girl on her back.

Kerid charged up his crossbows, forming bolts made of plasma. "What are you doing in Iladan?!" he demanded, crossbows ready. Taking a step forwards, he aimed at the beast's head. He barely saw the girl in the corner of his eye, so he watched her carefully as a precaution.

Ammy crouched down and growled in warning. The pure white wolf's red eyes glowed with protection; as a mother would to a child. Winter slid off the wolf's back and landed with a thump. Ammy shot a glance at the human before looking back at her friend. She was bleeding a bit and definitely out cold. The wolf twisted around to once more face the threat. Winter had said many times that monsters were much stronger than humans, but at this point in time Ammy didn't care whether the offender was weaker than them; only if they didn't attack. The white wolf crouched again, but this time plastered a pleading look on her face and whined gently, hoping that the human would feel at least a morsel of compassion.

Kalck'Ganek, son of his villages chief, had been summoned to the Village Hall. He knew that meant one thing: something had been spotted on the village's borders, and needed to be 'Taken Out'. Hefting his Battle-axe, he began the long walk to his Father's home.
(Later...)
Kalack took a moment to admire the beauty of Iladan. His quarry was a Adventurer that had trespassed on the village's land. He had found him, and was waiting for his time to strike.

Kerid held a stern expression for a few seconds before sighing and lowering his weapons. "What are you doing here? And who's the girl?" he asked. Whipping out a vial from his sack, he pulled out a bottle with liquid in it. He poured the liquid into the girl's mouth. "Hopefully the healing potion will work." he said.

Ammy growled and bared her teeth as the stranger poured the liquid into Winter's mouth. The wolf sniffed the vial and then sniffed Winter before hesitantly backing up and sitting down, but not after giving the stranger a warning glare. She wanted to make it clear that she was going to attack if he hurt Winter at all.

The girl bolted upwards, gasping for air. Instantly she saw the stranger and backed up frantically. "I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry...." Winter pleaded as she shielded her face from the nonexistent weapon. Ammy padded up and thrusted her head underneath Winter's arm and cooed in a warm way. The black haired "human" looked up at the stranger before cocking her head slightly. "Who are you? You don't look anything like anyone I've met. You look like me!" Winter exclaimed as she threw a hand over her mouth.

"What do you mean? We're both humans." Kerid said. "Well... the monster isn't. I'm assuming your wolf is from one of the remnant monster tribes." The warrior clipped his crossbows back to his sides and put the bottle back in his bag. He then looked at the cave again.

"Y-yeah she is." Winter stuttered catching her mistake. Now that she thought about it, somehow she made it into Human Territory. The girl rose to her feet and checked her supplies. Her bow and arrows were still in tact and so was he knife, but it was clotted with small flecks of red. Winter gently took her black shirt and wiped off the mess before kneeling down to be on eye level with Ammy. The white wolf barked happily and licked her face. "Ammy! Stop it!" Winter giggled. Then she stood up and faced the cave that seemed to intrest the human.

"I'm a cave explorer." Kerid said. "I like adventure and exploration. This cave I've never been in. I have a feeling there's a grand adventure waiting down there. Want to come?" Kerid wasn't sure, but he thought that the girl might me able to help

"Come with you?" Winter said. She didn't add it, but Winter thought, 'and what can you hunt down there?'. Winter looked down at Ammy, who was looking back at her for a decision. Winter sighed gently, knowing that if she refused this would maybe loose a good asset in the human territory. "I'll come, but you go first. I don't do well in tight spaces." She finally agreed.

"Alright." Kerid said. Taking a stick and a rock out of his bag, he lit the stick on fire to create a torch. Entering the cave, he looked around. The walls were mostly rock, but there were also a lot of precious minerals. "Whoa... these are really valuable!" he said, snapping off a piece of Topaz.

"That piece of rock is valuable?" Winter asked as she studied the gem in the torchlight. "How much food do you get for it?" She asked. Ammy shook out her fur and started to sniff around at a few different metals and rocks.

"Food? You buy food with money, not gems!" Kerid said. "These are worth lots of money! Where do you live?" He took out a tiny pickaxe, mining off some crystals. Shoving the gems into his sack, he continued deeper into the cave. However, he was beginning to be suspicious of the girl.

'Crap I really screwed that one up. So they don't need to trade for food here?' Winter thought frantically. "Uhh, I'm new around here. I don't live in a village." That's partially true at least. Winter followed the stranger deeper into the cave. Ammy sniffed around some more and soon became bored with all the rocks. The white wolf whined for a moment before Winter placed her hand on top of the wolf's head. A small clatter nearby alerted both the huntress and the wolf but she ignored it for the moment.

The human walked up to some more gems. "Ooh! Silver!" he said, beginning to chip away. "So you're new to civilization, huh?" he asked. The pick mined out a nice collection of the silver, allowing him to throw it in his bag. Then he saw some rubies. "Oh, I'm so lucky today!" he said, rushing over.

"Yeah... Let's put it that way." Winter agreed as she looked at the red gems in front of the stranger. The noise clattered behind her and Winter this time turned around. Ammy twisted around with her and both of the huntresses were on high alert. "Now I hate to interrupt your gem spree, but there is an unwelcoming presence here." Winter called to the stranger human. Slowly the huntress pulled out her bow and knocked an arrow. She left it in stationary mode as Winter gazed around the cavern.

((Should I control the monster?))

Winter pulled back the string to her bow and took a stance that told Ammy to prepare for attack. The creature looked calm from the looks of it, but so did the human stranger. Winter was determined to stay calm as well despite the danger that she may just kill a member of her tribe in a second. She shot a glance at the Human that tried to determine whether or not he was intent on shooting right now.
