Today is the 5th anniversary of 9/11. I'm sure many of you remember the terror the attacks caused at least in the US. This is for you to post you 9/11 experiences.

I was in 3rd grade at the time, and at 9:00am all the teachers in the school were called up to Library by the Principle. I was like no big, its just a meeting. But then me teacher didn't come back for 30 minutes. When she did get back she looked like she had been crying. I put it out of my mind though and the day continued as usual until I got home from school, where I found my dad( he works for the federal government). I just thought he had taken the day off. Then I went into the other room and turned on the TV to Kids to watch Pokemon. I instead saw live feed from Ground Zero. That night my family went to church for a memorial service for those that had died. Then this year in the summer, I went up to Ney York City and saw Ground Zero. It looked much different from how it did that day on TV.

Well thats my story post yours.

I was in 7th grade at the time. My firend and I had decided to make our own website, so after school (This was in Sweden btw, so the attack was in the afternoon for me) we went to my friend's dad's workplace, where they had lots of computers we could use and a private office etc.

We had been working for about an hour when I heard a newsbroadcast from a tv in the hallway outside our office. The words "USA" and "World trade center" caught my attention, so I took a peek outside to see what all the fuss was about. When I saw the the smoking WTC I was speechless. I couldn't believe my eyes. My friend (who btw, is a snobby ignorant Swedish brat) simply took me by the arm dragged me into the office again and yelled at me; proclaiming "that's not important! We have work to do". We then proceeded to have a huge argument and eventually I left. Once I got home I found my dad on the sofa, crying in front of the tv. I remember just sitting for hours in front of CNN's coverage.

The following days in school we just sat with the teachers and talked about what had happened. I haven't been to ground zero since the attack, but I would like to visit it, to pay my respects. Today though, I payed my respects in a diffrent way by organizing a silent minute in our school for the lives lost in the attack.

I was in year 7, and it was early morning for me, I think. Since I have to get up really early for school, I missed the first news of it, being on the bus at the time. When I got to school, though, the whole place was chaos. TVs were on in any classroom that had one, and teachers were rushing around trying to console people who had friends and relatives out there. When lessons eventually began, we were unusually silent (yes, big deal, I know). At noon we had a few minutes of silence. When I came home, both our TVs were on BBC News 24, but occasionally my dad switched onto Sky News or CNN. The whole family ended up just sitting in front of the main TV, staring at the images as the whole thing was replayed over and over. We ate, we went to bed. I think my sister cried, I can't remember that night properly. The next day it had all seeped in, and everyone was still walking around dumb-struck. We all ended up talking about it in any lessons we could, and quite a few people were absent. Either shock or relatives, not sure which.

I might've got some details wrong. My memory might've just collapsed and recalled everything wrong. But that's what I think happened. Chloe or Rosie can correct me if I'm wrong.

It happened early morning in America, it would have been late morning/afternoon for us.

I remember coming home after school and the first I knew about it was when I got home and my mum and dad were sitting with the tv on watching the live news report on it.

Don't really recall that much else about it, I know I stood and watched the news from behind my mum's seat for quite a while as it all went on. I think we even watched the Towers collapse live.

Horrible day. :/

I'll probably get a few details wrong, but this is what I remember of the day.

I was in highschool and it was my lunch break. Me and one of my best friends, Carolyn, were sitting in the Library with a couple of other people chatting when my ex (we were together then) came rushing in looking pale and freaked. We looked at him confused and asked, "What's up?" He went into a spiel about how two planes had just flown into the World Trade Center and they were beginning to crumble. We actually kinda laughed at that. I think I said something along the lines of, "You gotta be kidding me" but his expression told me otherwise. The librarian then came rushing by with a TV and hooked it up, and we all crowded around in horror and watched the event unfolding live. They replayed the actual collision over and over again. I didn't cry or anything. I think I barely even reacted beyond feeling numb and muttering a few choice obscenities. It just didn't feel real.

When the bell rang we reluctantly left the TV and returned to class. I forget if it was our teacher who addressed the class about the situation directly or they announced it over the loud speakers. Safe to say, by the end of the school day everyone knew. Me, Carolyn, and my ex (Adam), headed over to Carolyn's house to watch the news. For the rest of the afternoon we didn't really talk about much else than the actual incident, terrorists, and what kind of effect this was going to have on the US and the rest of the world. A lot of cursing was had. Lots of uncomfortable silence. Even when I went home that night I was still in disbelief.

Maybe you'll think I was insensitive, what with the big deal so many people seem to make of it, but I didn't feel anything but annoyed. My parents were in the Calgary International Airport headed out to Toronto for a week for my mom's birthday and I was looking forward to spending a week with my cousins. Then they call and say they can't fly out because of some dumb crash in another country and the whole week was ruined. It sucked.

Everybody spent the next couple days in school talking about it, even interrupting Social Studies class to discuss it, but I ignored them and used the time to work on some sketches (which is what I usually did in Social Studies anyways. ;)). News like this bores me, and I couldn't be bothered to pay attention to foreign affairs. If it's on TV, it's probably not worth my time: the internet is where my news is at. Heck, I didn't even know my own Prime Minister had changed until a few months after the switch.

It was all over five years ago, though, and nobody ever talks about it anymore (except on the internet, where the odd American pops up to start a conversation about it). I remember hearing about a conspiracy that Mario Hoops 3-on-3 was being released the same week as the incident, but that was about it. It didn't affect me in any way back then, and it doesn't affect me now.

Dang! That reminds me, tomorrow's my mom's birthday.

People are always talking about it really; just maybe not directly. Every stupid thing Bush has done with his war has stemmed from it. All of these bloody regulations for air travel has come about from it. Even two movies ;p

Generally, I don't pay much attention to the media either, but since I travel a lot it's hard to ignore how 9-11's events have changed things. I avoid 9-11 news just like I avoid stuff on "the war on terrorism", unless it involves our soliders. Then I feel sorry for their families and mutter how idiotic it was that they were there in the first place. But that's another story...

Btw - if your post is insensitive, my brother's satan when it comes to 9-11 :p

I know this will cause for me to be hated generally... but ill be frank, (well ill be Rupert but its an expression ok)

I thought the attacks were a hoax at first, I remember hearing about it and laughing because I was convinced that it was just a prank someone was playing around school. Noone that I know was in the 2 towers that day, so despite the fact thousands of people were inside I was not overly affected by their getting hit. On the actual day I didn't cry, I was more annoyed that there were constant banners blocking the tv channels telling people through the events.
Did you know that Seth McFarlane, the creator of family guy was supposed to be on one of the flights that crashed into the two towers.. Im very glad he wasn't on the flights to be honest, but other than that I really did disassociate myself with that tragedy. I remember the 11th September as a few of my friends birthdays to be honest.

well i was in like 3 or 4 th and my teacher went to get some thin in her perrse when her cell phone rung and all u could was her gasping and going " uh .. oh no..." when she turned the tv on and there we were watch the twin towers fall down. luckily because we were all watching that we didnt have to do our regular classes that day was really bad and kinda good. and after we watched it the first time my teacher started crying , while we were all kinda clueless . so yea thats kinda it :p

Rachel... early morning? Early afternoon at least since we're about 4-5 hours AHEAD of New York. And you being in year seven would make me in year 6 and not in secondary school yet.

I didn't know anything about it until I got home in the afternoon and wanted to watch the children's programs on TV. The news was on nearly every channel but I didn't twig that anything major had happened, only that there was nothing good to watch. I turned the TV off and went and asked my mum what had happened. She told me briefly, but I didn't really understand at that time, I suppose, so I didn't get upset or anything and played on the Nintendo instead XD.

I went up one of the towers (the tourist one) a couple of years before it happened and I remember it well, but I tend to react in that way; not really get seriously upset at the time. It takes me a while to get used to the idea, then i get upset.

Ah, school's always chaos anyway. :p I still remember the TV in the library and at home, though. I think my sister sat in front of me for a while just gaping at them collapsing over and over again. Personally, I'd never been to the Towers before, but both of my parents had gone out there for a second honeymoon a few years before. I think a year later or so I went out there, saw the place where they'd been, saw the dented metal statue of the globe in a park somewhere... *shudders* That area was still affected a lot. Now, I feel a bit disconnected, sure, as only one person died in it from my town, and I didn't know them. I think some person from school's aunt or something had been there too... It's all a bit fuzzy, and we modify our memories to make us seem like heroes anyway, so meh. *fresh from psychology lessons*

I was in my freshman year of highschool. I was sleeping on my desk (as I did until the day I graduated) and the teacher made us leave the room. She brought us into the room nextdoor, which had a tv. There we got to watch the whole thing. I thought it was pretty cool to see something blow up for real. You see the fake versions of this kinda stuff all the time, but this was real, ya know?

Anyhoo, the incident got me out of first period, and then they had a meeting about it during 3-4 period. (my school only had 4)

Soooo... I wasn't affected by it at all, out of sight outta mind. It got me outta school, that was it. Did I cry over WWI or WWII? No. Was I alive then? should that make a difference? It didn't happen to me or anyone I know.

I can sympathize with others, but then again, America retaliated by killing thousands upon thousands of people in various countries. Of course, when a redneck is crowned king of America, these things happen.

Why would people go on a plane set bombs crash into a building just to kill peopla and commit suicide in the making. Thats just sad and stupid!
