Okay so, I have no dedication when it comes to fics. At least, I didn't. I'm almost certain I'll be able to stick with this, despite the akwardedness of it being first person for a female character. I'm most comfortable in first person writing, so yea.
Isabelle lives!
You know, it's funny. I never, once in my life, imagined myself on this kind of stage. I mean, yea, I'm a trainer, and yeah, I'm pretty good. (I suppose that explains the Hoenn Champion and Battle Dome Champion rings on my fingers)
I guess it's seeing the pillars of flame shooting right in front of me, and all of the camera flashes, that I'm realizing, this is really happening.
It was two weeks ago, and I had just walked off of the boat from the Battle Frontier back to Lilycove. The sea breeze was gently whipping my hair up into my face, and back down again. That's something I never get tired of, the smell of the ocean. Anyway, I had just stepped off of the boat, with my Battle Dome ring proudly displayed next to the Hoenn Champion ring I had for the past year. I guess I never thought about the fact that it would be televised, but it was. I was swarmed by fans, and, no doubt, a few perverts. Yea, I guess I'm doing that bragging thing again, but it's better than lying if you ask me.
Anyway, I weaved my way through the mob, and at least twice my denim vest was almost ripped off. By accident or by stalker I don't know. Back to the point. As I was FORCING my way through the crowd, I heard a voice calling out to me,
"Isabelle! Miss Velincer!" it was a male voice, one that I thought I had heard before. I looked up from my PokeNav, and saw someone I was slightly familiar with.
"It's me, David." He was wearing casual clothing, though the badge on his chest demanded respect. It was gold, with an emerald core. He's the head chairperson of the Hoenn Elite Four committee. "We have a proposition for you." I didn't know much about this guy, but he seemed like I could trust him.
"Okay, talk." As I spoke, I was scanning his body, looking for anything, a sign of weakness, dishonesty.
"We, the Elite Four Committee think you should be a gym leader, right here in Lilycove if you want."
"Me, a Gym Leader?" I was, of course, flattered. I glanced at the two rings on my finger, each representing a triumph. "But there can only be eight…."
"Right, there is one, we don't think Flannery deserves the rank of Gym Leader." David said this with a smile, as if ridding someone of their job was no big deal to him.
"Of course! When can I start?!" I was, of course, caught up in the moment. My eyes were o doubt glittering with excitement, and my heart rate was probably that of a marathon runner.
"Well, it's a good thing you said yes, we've already made the arrangements. Tonight at around eight, a helicopter will come to pick you up. You'll be flown to a stadium in the Sinnoh region, you, and Flannery will have a battle. The winner, will be made the Gym leader."
Yea, me a Gym Leader, I never would've thought it. But, since this helicopter ride is rather boring, I guess I'll tell you just a bit more about me huh? Well, in case you can't tell by now, my name is Isabelle Velincer. But, most of my friends call me Izzy. I've always loved battling, and Pokemon in general. I was born, and raised in Hoenn. More specifically, Lilycove city. Unlike most trainers, who feel the need to start at the age of ten, I started after middle school, when I was fourteen. Of course, by that time, I already had my Torchic, which I got when I was ten. So, officially, I became a trainer at the age of ten.
Yes, I ramble too much. Though, something you will quickly learn about me, is that during battle, I change, completely. I try to have fun, but I can't. I become arrogant, insulting. Of course, as soon as I'm done this little "self bio" you'll see. Which, by the way, I am done with.
The view from the helicopter is amazing. I've only left Hoenn once, and that was to some chain of islands to the northeast. Sinnoh seems so different. Hoenn is a practical tropical paradise compared to this place. We just flew over a mountain, I think they said it was called Coronet, and it's covered in snow. To the North, I saw an entire city covered in snow. I've never been happier to live in Hoenn. I guess I should focus more on how beautiful it is from up here though. The sun is setting, and looking back over the mountain, the snow is shining an orange glow. Yes, it's a cliché fly into the sunset.
"Miss, we'll be landing soon" The captain suddenly turned in his seat and was looking directly at me.
"Right. Thank-you." I gave him a polite smile, which he ignored. I no longer liked my captain.
As we landed, I realized the immensity of this stadium. From where the helicopter landed, I could see across the dome a helicopter that Flannery was stepping out of. In between us, was a large glass dome. I figured that underneath must be the stadium.
"Isabelle! How good you've arrived!" It was David again, his emerald shining in the dim sunlight.
"Hey, David." I responded. I thought these guys weren't supposed to chose favorites…
"Did you enjoy the helicopter ride?" He asked. I could see right through this guy, he didn't care. The way his eyes were darting told me.
"Yes, it was quite enjoyable." I replied with a smile, looking him directly in the ever-moving eyes.
"Glad to hear it." Yea, he wasn't. "Well then, let's go, not a moment to lose hmm?" he directed me to the nearby elevator.
"Sure thing, let's go." I pulled my denim vest a bit closer to my shirt, it was much colder in Sinnoh. As we walked over towards the elevator, I realized how tall this stadium was, most of the nearby building were at least a story shorter.
A few moments later, we had rode down to the basement of the building, and I was led to a small room, I suppose for preparation for the battle.
"Okay, Isabelle, you will be led out to the elevator in ten minutes time. When you come up, walk forward onto the field, Flannery will already be out there. The referee will speak, and then the battle will begin. Good luck." He placed his hand on my shoulder, smiled at me (though his eyes looked through me) and walked away. I really did hate this guy.
I decided it was best to get comfortable, even though I realized I had no real reason to worry. I had beaten Flannery once before, of course, that was her Gym team. Regardless, I sat down in the armchair, and grabbed the six spheres out of my vest pockets, two Poke balls, a Premier Ball, a Luxury Ball, a Timer Ball, and a Dusk Ball. I looked them over carefully, trying to decide which Pokemon to use. Flannery would no doubt have fire types, so Vaporeon would be useful, if not a bit unfair. Of course, maybe she deserved an unfair fight, who's so stupid as you use one single type?
Three knocks on the door, followed by "Isabelle, it's time to go." Without a second thought, I sighed, fwipped the hair out of my eyes, and picked up the six capsules. "Vaporeon…" I whispered to myself.
The elevator was small, built just for the purpose of raising competitors to the stadium. I stood tall, concentrating, and thinking. Before the elevator began it's ascent, I heard over an intercom system "Ladies and gentlemen, Lavaridge City Gym Leader, Flannery!" followed by applause. Without even a slight jerk, my elevator began to rise.
I figured there was about ten seconds left until I got hit by floodlights, and I heard the announcer call out "Ladies and gentlemen, winner of the Hoenn League, and conqueror of the Battle Dome, Isabelle!" The elevator stopped, suddenly but smoothly. The door slid open, and I was barraged by floodlights. There was applause and across the stadium, I saw Flannery, in her usually black shirt and her insane red hair.
"Meet in the middle you two!" The ref suddenly called out. I looked at him, he seemed a bit old to be doing this, he had to have been at least 60. I strode out across the field, which was simply a floor. No fancy gimmicks for this battle.
"Isabelle…" Flannery said as we shook hands.
"Flannery." I said, looking her directly in the eyes, something she was not able to do. Her handshake was weak, she seemed nervous.
As we walked back to our respective sides, I looked up at the crowd, and more importantly, the sky. The stadium was packed, but the sky is what drew my attention. You couldn't see any stars. Even in the largest cities of Hoenn you could see a few, but here, nothing.
"Alright you two, listen up. One Pokemon each, no healing. On the count of three, you are both to throw out your choice. Ready?" He paused.
"One…" I grabbed the Poke Ball
"Two…" I enlarged it
"THREE!"
"Vaporeon!" I called out, thrusting the Poke Ball to the field
"Weezing!" Flannery called, doing the same.
"Hah! Too afraid to use a fire type?" I called out,
"Shut it!" She rebutted, "You must be the scared one, using a water type!"
"You don't want to play this game with me, Flannery, I always win." I told you I changed when I battled.
My Vaporeon was sitting obediently on our side of the field, as Flannery's Weezing was floating.
"Flamethrower!" Flannery suddenly called. It was predictable, and stupid, all at the same time. Weezing grew larger for a moment, and then fire shot out of the many pores. It all gathered into one central pillar of fire, which quickly made it's way to Vaporeon. A few cameras flashed.
"Water Pulse" I said coolly. Vaporeon's tail whipped in a circle, and a pulse of water flew out, colliding with the pillar of flame. The flame was extinguished, and steam rose from its spot.
"Ice Beam!" I called out. Vaporeon listend, and a solid beam of ice quickly came out , moving right for Weezing.
"Evade and use Thunderbolt!" Soon enough, the battle continued to move in such a manner. She'd launch an attack, we'd negate it's affects. However, Flannery quickly changed this,
"Shadow Ball!" She had suddenly yelled, and Weezing began launching sphere after sphere of pure shadow. Each was no bigger than a tennis ball, but with that many, there was almost no way to avoid it.
"Pri!" Vaporeon called out, as she was barraged by the attack. With each hit, she stumbled, and sometimes flew backwards.
"We can do better than this! Vaporeon! Use Swift!" I called out over the increasing roar of the audience.
The Bubble Jet Pokemon obeyed, and soon star-shaped energy was being sprayed from her tail as she waved it back and forth. The stars acted like a homing missile, dancing through the air, and then surging at Weezing, who was hit by every single one.
"You think it's over don't you?!" She called out to me
"Hot-headed as ever I see!" I remarked. With this, she nearly exploded.
"Weezing! Use Thunderbolt again! Take this rat out!" Somehow, I think Flannery was talking about me.
"What, no fire?" I remarked, "Vaporeon, let it hit!" I shouted confidently. This was, a code for all of my Pokemon, to use Substitute right before impact. The large surge of electricity flew out of Weezing and came at the Substitute at an alarming rate. It crackled as it moved through the air, and hundreds of people took pictures. In an eruption of smoke, the electricity hit the Substitute, and all was still for a moment.
"Look out!" Miss HotHead yelled, but it was too late. Vaporeon was hurtling towards her Weezing, with a full strength Aqua Tail. The Poison Gas Pokemon was hit, and slammed into the ground, soaked.
"You know you've lost." I said, staring Flannery down.
"No! Weezing! Use Thunder!" Nothing happened.
"Isabelle wins!" The referee called out.
I rushed out onto the field, and Vaporeon leaped onto my shoulder. We stood, waving to the crowd, as hundreds of cameras flashed.
"Say hello to the newest Gym Leader of Hoenn!" David called from a platform up in the stands.
Oh yea, this will be fun.
