Ok, so we're gonna give this a try for the next week and see how this works. The caption contest just... didn't because most of the captions sucked too hard to decide a winner on. Fair enough, captioning Pokemon which, as far as these things go, is pretty bland wasn't exactly going to be the stuff of stellar responses - but there you go.
Given the pretty talented nature of most of our spriters here, mostly thanks to them being drawn by the TCM, and since I've been working on Spin Dash again in preparation for their first animated outing, I've decided we could do a bit of a sprite based weekly competition game that we can hopefully spread to the main site.
First off, we're gonna see how well this week goes in terms of responses, if we have a good week, we'll continue the competition and will expand it to include entries from people contacting us through the main site too. If not, you all suck.
The premise is stupidly simple; I'm going to post 5 sprite sheets, two of which are background sheets and at least one of which is a character sheet, with those sheets all you have to do is make a sprite comic. It can be about anything at all and it can be as long or as short as you want but it can only include sprites from the 5 sprite sheets posted.
The winner is the best comic, as voted by the people in a poll posted to this forum on friday. Votes will be tallied up at the end of Sunday night and the winner will be announced and will have the privilege of picking the next 5 sprite sheets (again, at least two must be backgrounds and at least one must be a character sheet) to be used over the next week's entries.
So, to boil that down and make it clear, the 5 sprite sheets at the bottom of this post must be used to make a sprite comic with - and no other sprites are allowed. Effects are fine, but you can't draw new backgrounds or sprites. You can edit the sprites, but not heavily.
You have until Friday to make a comic.
Voting begins on Friday night and continues until late on Sunday - at which point a winner will be declared.
The winner will pick 5 new sprite sheets, at least two of which must be backgrounds and at least one of which a character, and the game will continue using those sheets until the following Friday, where the cycle continues.
Got it? Good. Here's my selection of sprite sheets to get us started.
I recommend using The Spriter's Resource for this game. If you get a sheet from anywhere else, please provide a link to the page it is on.
There's a pretty diverse range of stuff here, so I'm interested to see what people can come up with. Obviously, the more inventive the better - and funny's always a good path to victory.
