The Start of a Journey

Oh man! His parents were going to be so mad at him. It was already dark and he was more than an hour away from his house. Victor was running through the woods as fast as his little legs would take him.

He was nine years old, and he had already spent a third of his life out here in the woods. He lived in the country about two hour's walk south of Goldenrod City. After his father's incident with Team Rocket back in the underground tunnels of Goldenrod, his father decided to move the family out here.

His father used to be a trainer on the road to the Pokemon League. He already had six of the Johto badges at the time, and was training when he was jumped by Team Rocket. They physically beat him unconscious and took his pokemon. Beaten and bruised, he made his way back home. About six months later he decided that he wanted to move the family out here, and that's how they arrived out in this area.

It wasn't all that bad out here, except for there weren't really any other children out here. He would occasionally make a trip to Goldenrod to see a friend of his, Jerry. That's why he was out this late in the first place. His stay had been longer than he meant it would be, and here he was. Running through the woods, barely able to see past his hands in front of him.

Taking the main road would have been the safe bet, but cutting through the woods knocked about half an hour off his time. He already knew these woods better than most adults did, even a couple pokemon rangers had been lost in these woods. It didn't seem to make much of a problem for him, at least until he tripped.

"Aiiiieeeee!" Victor screamed as he came falling to the ground. He landed on his shoulder, as a throbbing pain shot through his arm and chest.

He tried to stand, but his leg yelled out in defiance with a sharp jolt running up his left leg, and into his spine. Apparently he had twisted his ankle on a tree root running around a tree. He looked down at the tree, and noticed something odd about the tree. It had a large, ovular, shape to it. It was a pokemon egg!

Victor could hardly contain his excitement. He rolled himself over next to it, and scooped it up into his arms. He put his ear up against the egg and could feel it shake a little, with what sounded like a small yawn. He couldn't believe what he had found. Victor pulled his jacket off and wrapped the egg up into it before finally struggling to pull himself to his feet.

He looked around for something to balance himself on before trying to make his way home, but he couldn't find anything at all that he could use. Victor winced a little bit, and started to carefully make his way through the woods.

He had been hopping along for about an hour when he finally saw the main road. He made his way to the tree line when he heard a shriek from across the street.

The old lady that ran the daycare with her husband saw Victor hopping out of the woods, struggling to keep his feet. The old man and woman came running outside as fast as they could. The old people were actually in better shape than people would give them credit for. The old man scooped Victor up into his arms as they started to walk back to the house when the man noticed his bundled up jacket.

"What do you have there young man?" The elderly gentleman asked him. He was a rather tall man, and built very solid. The woman reached over to Victor's jacket and said to him, "Let me take it dear." Before Victor could reach out and stop her, she opened up the jacket and smiled. "Well now. What do we have here?" She looked at her husband and poked him in the shoulder to get his attention.

"It appears our young adventurer here is also a treasure hunter. It's an egg."

The old man smiled as they made it to the house. He pushed the door open with his feet, as they all made their way inside. He set Victor down in a chair and looked to his wife. "Go ahead and get one of the incubators we used for that Togepi egg a while back."

Victor blurted out to the old couple, "It's about to hatch! I felt it shaking and making sounds when I found it."

The couple smiled and looked at each other sharing a nod. The old woman left the room, and the old man kneeled down next to Victor. "You're out awfully late you know? There are wild Houndoom out here that don't take kindly to people in their territory."

Victor held his head in shame and retorted to the old man, "I know. But I was coming home from Goldenrod city, and I needed to make better time before it got too late." He knew it had been a bad idea in the first place, but didn't want his parents to be too upset with him for being late.

The old lady walked back into the room holding the egg in one hand, and a round shaped pillow that had a depression stitched into the center so it came down into what looked like a bowl. She set the pillow down onto the table, and then proceeded to place the egg onto the pillow. The man had already made his way to a cabinet and pulled some bandages out to wrap Victor's little ankle in. He untied Victor's shoe, and slid the shoe and sock off his swelling foot. Victor yellped out in pain, as a Blissey and a Chansey came into the room. The old man began wrapping Victor's ankle, as the two pokemon came walking up to him, smiling.

"What kind of pokemon is that big one?" Victor asked in awe. He had only seen a few pokemon in his life, and he had never seen a Blissey before. Something about it soothed him into not noticing the pain from having his foot wrapped in bandages. As the old man finished he snapped Victor back into reality and answered his question. "She's a Blissey. Chansies evolve into them after they develop a very special bond with their trainer."

"You were a trainer?" Victor said in amazement.

"Why yes I was. A very long time ago. I even tried to qualify for the Johto league, but was knocked out before I could finish the Elite Four." The old man was smiling the whole time and gave Victor a sense of assurance that he was in good hands at the moment.

The old woman called out in Victor's direction and asked him, "Dear, what's your number? Let us call your parents to let them know where you are."

V told her the call number and she went into another room to make the call. He could hear the lady and his parents talking about him and his injury. They seemed to be pretty good friends already, sharing gasps and sighs over young Victor. The lady returned and smiled at him. "Your parents wanted you to go ahead and rest here tonight, and in the morning they will be here to pick you up." Almost as soon as she said it though, something else caught everyone else's attention. The egg flashed.
