To Start Anew (A Kanto+ RP)

I've been wanting to do another Forum RP for a while, so I discussed it with some people in chat. By random chance and some discussion, we decided we should go back to the roots of where PokeMon began - the Kanto region. We may go to other regions with time, but ultimately we will be beginning there.

I'd like for this to be an RP with relatively new characters, as the name implies a new start. I was thinking that it could also be somewhat along the lines of PokeMon is Not for Children - a little bit more on the darker side than most PRPs. I think I'll also be going with just after HG/SS canon, where Red/Ash was a previous champion and Blue/Gary Oak is a gym leader. Team Rocket is back on the decline, but that doesn't mean trouble isn't afoot in the Kanto region. Evil never rests for long...

Let me know if you're interested, and what you'd like to start out with. My character will more than likely have a Charmander, but you're not necessarily limited by that when it comes to starters.

Hometown: Viridian City, Kanto

Hair: Dark Red, almost auburn

Clothing: Grey t-shirt with black sleeves, overlarge blue jeans, black sneakers, plain, black, leather gloves when he is travelling through terrain where he needs hand protection.
Identifying Marks: dark red hair
Musculature: Atheltic, but not especially muscular.
Personality: Dean is devoted most to those he cares about. He tries to be selfless when he can and loves his Pokemon and his human friends dearly. He is always willing to put himself in harm’s way for another, though this can sometimes lead to him putting his Pokemon in situations they can’t handle.
Skills: Dean learned first aid from his father.
Past: Dean began his Pokemon journey at age 16, setting out from his hometown of Viridian with a Murkrow, Vito, which he received as a birthday gift from his parents.

History: Vito was obtained as a birthday present on the day Dean left on his journey, serving as his starter Pokemon for all intents and purposes, he was bred by Dean’s parents from their Togekiss and Honchkrow.

Identifying Marks: He has a faint scar on his right wrist from an injury he sustained as a young child.
Musculature: Thickset, not very flexible, but has a decent amount of endurance
Personality: An optimist, Wyatt tends to seek out a bright side in whatever situation is at hand, even if there doesn't appear to be one at all. This might prove an annoyance to those of more pessimistic or even realistic natures, but on the flip-side, he's not so strung up in finding the positives of a situation to not realize when things are getting serious, and is more than willing to throw himself into the line of fire in order to help his companions, Pokemon and humans alike.
Skills: He has an exceptional throwing arm, with the aim to match
Past: Wyatt had initially intended to begin his training journey years earlier when he still lived in Goldenrod, but the sudden disappearance of his father, Miles, forced him to turn back before he could make any progress. Some time after, with no sign of Miles ever coming back, the remaining two Mortains moved to the adjacent region of Kanto in order to begin fresh, and upon his mother's insistence, Wyatt decided to take another crack at training.

Ability: Synchronize
Special Features: Slightly larger than the average Natu thanks to its father's inherited traits, Mata tends to fight more physically than one would think from such a petite psychic type.
History: One of many of the products of Wyatt's parents' breeding profession, this particular Natu, bred from a Xatu and Chatot, seemed to take a liking to Wyatt almost immediately, and seeing as he had intended to start training at around this time, Miles decided to hand the Tiny Bird over to his son as his first Pokemon.

Nickname: Avira
Gender: Male
Ability: Levitate
Special Features: Particularly fond of hypnosis, it's primarily a diversionary fighter rather than a direct combatant.
History: Having taken the long way to Vermilion City, Wyatt came across Avira while passing through Lavender Town, and with a particular affinity for ghost types, he made the effort to catch the amorphous specter of a Pokemon, though this proved quite the challenge with only a psychic type at his disposal. Mata somehow managed to pull through however, and weakened the Gastly enough for Wyatt to capture it with the only Pokeball he had in his arsenal.

Clothing: Nate wears a dark blue bomber jacket, grey cargo pants, black tennis shoes. He also wears a dark blue cap featuring a Starmie.
Identifying Marks: Nate has a faint scar on his knee from the time he crashed his bicycle into a stop sign.
Musculature: Nate isn't very muscular and is considered quite weak by his peers.
Personality: Nate is outgoing and fun-loving. He is charismatic and a jokester. However, Nate often enters dangerous scenarios without a plan, and he isn't good at making plans in the first place. Nate hates being told what to do, and often ignores leaders and and adults alike. He is selfish and always prioritizes himself over everyone else. However, Nate can be seen to be loyal to his friends and will act quickly to help them, as long as he leaves without a scratch.
Skills: Nate has basic cooking skills and he specializes in grilling, such as hamburgers and hotdogs.
Past: Nate was born and raised in Viridian City, and he has never left the city without his parents. When Nate was ten, his parents went on vacation to Celedon City. His father, Harold, won money at the Game Corner and bought Nate a Magby egg. A few months later, the egg hatched and out came a Magby, Nate's best friend ever since. Nate now resides in Viridian City, where he lives with his mother, father and aunt.
Family: His dad, Harold, his mom, Leena, and his aunt, Terry.
Love Relationships?: Nate has had no crushes but fun fact- Nate is an asexual.

Magby (Male)
Personality: Magby has a strong fascination with water and will do anything to observe it's properties. Magby also considers himself to be an extremely strong Pokemon and is very rude. He never hesitates to harm or even kill another Pokemon if it means he will become stronger.
Features: No major differences.
Past: Magby was bought as an egg from the Game Corner. It was bought by Harold and it was given to Nate as a gift now that he was ten. Nate and Magby are now the best of friends.

Mankey (Male)
Personality: Unlike regular Mankey, this particular one is calm and sees combat as a game of checks and counters, not fierce brawling. Mankey is friendly towards humans and will never go into fights without Nate's consent. Mankey also has a strange fascination with Magby and he often pokes him to see his reaction.
Features: No major differences.
Past: Mankey was Mate's first caught Pokemon. Nate was battling hordes of Mankey, and once he saw one quietly sitting down, Nate immediately reached for a Pokeball and caught it, without even weakening it.

Spax: In regards to the helix-fossilism, as funny as it might be to have a Twitch Plays PokeMon reference, I'm afraid that is not a part of this universe's canon. Also it would be good to put a little bit more detail into your character, especially in regards to his PokeMon and how he obtained them.

We'll be starting off in Viridian City. Here's my character so far:

Name: Justice Dellacott
Gender: Female
Original Hometown: Oreburgh City, Sinnoh
Current Hometown: Pallet Town, Kanto
Age: 15
Height: 5’ 5”
Weight: 125 lbs.
Hair: Dark Brown
Eyes: Green
Clothing: Green long sleeved shirt, white t-shirt with a grey flower design worn overtop, dark blue jeans, black sneakers with white laces. Also wears a golden necklace with a circular golden pendant with an emerald opal in the center. Has a white jacket with fur-like wool on the inside for colder weather.
Identifying Marks: A slightly faded birthmark on the back of her right shoulder.
Musculature: Slightly more athletic than the average person, and a little on the petite side as well.
Personality: Justice is a very accepting and understanding individual most of the time, willing to lend an ear to her friends whenever they need. She has a slight fear of PokeMon, but said fear focuses more on the PokeMon that have sharp claws. Once she gets used to something, however, she becomes very comfortable and is willing to be more open about herself. She is not usually very self-confident, but has an underlying tone of strength that will come out in times where she feels the situation is getting dire. She rarely angers, but when she does she is a force to be reckoned with.
Skills: Justice learned herbalism and survival skills from both her mother and sister.
Past: Justice spent the majority of her life in the Sinnoh region as her father, Christopher, worked in the Oreburgh mines. Because her sister had gained some notoriety as a Trainer, she had been excited to start her journey at the earliest available time. However, disaster struck when there was a small cave-in at the Oreburgh mines, her father having suffocated to death. In mourning for his passage, her mother Zandra decided to make the move to the Kanto region to try and have a new start somewhere else. Her older sister had also lost an eye in a particularly brutal battle with a Weavile, so Justice decided to wait a little bit before she started her journey. Now with more confidence, she made sure she was the first person to get to the lab in Pallet Town to gain her starter.
Family: Her mother Zandra and her sister Scarlet. Her father, Christopher, is deceased.
Love Relationships?: None as of yet.

Species: Charmander
Nickname: None
Gender: Male
Ability: Blaze
Special Features: Seems to have a few lighter patches of skin.
History: Raised by breeders to become a starter PokeMon, this Charmander was one of the three starters for the year at Professor Oak's Lab. Justice chose him partly because her older sister like Fire types, but also to help to try to overcome her fears when it came to PokeMon with sharp claws.

Clothing: Purple Flannel Shirt, with sleeves often rolled up to elbows, beige cargo pants, and white and red sneakers.

Musculature: Lean and Lanky, Tires easily
Personality: Marcus is afraid of rejection, and thus comes off as apologetic and condensing, constantly refusing to be critical of a person in fear of hurting them.
Skills: A good cook and cleaner, comes with taking care of himself a lot.
Past: Marcus's early family life had always been strained. Long before their eventual divorce, his parents often refused to talk to each other, leaving much of his childhood broken into two halves. In youth, he often found comfort in his elder brother, Joseph. When he grew to his teenager years however, he began to scorn him for reasons Marcus didn't understand, and his brother never cared to elaborate. Joseph very quickly decided to leave and begin a pokémon journey, not even saying goodbye to his brother. Years later, after his parents finally cut ties and moved away. Marcus finally decided to set off on a journey of his own, after some coaxing from his father.
Family: Divorced parents, lives with his father while his mother lives in Vermillion. Has an elder brother who is an experienced pokémon trainer, current whereabouts unknown.

Nickname: Basil
Gender: Male
Ability: Overgrow
Special Features: Tips of back-bulb petals peel backwards slightly, exposing a small portion of the bud underneath.
History: Basil is one of the pokémon Prof. Oak gives to beginning trainers, a quirky young Bulbasaur who acts as if being a trainer's partner is his duty, and obeys Marcus without question, but with little passion. It was no accident that Marcus chose the same pokémon as his brother did years before.

Gender: Female
Hometown: Saffron City, Kanto

Hair: Light Brown past her shoulders, bangs parted in the middle

Birthday: July 12th
Clothing: Always wears round glasses because contacts bother her eyes and a silver ring with a ruby in it on her right hand. Has a purple backpack to store her Trainer supplies.
Summer clothes: White jean shorts, white socks, black tennis shoes with red laces, and a plain royal blue T-shirt.
Winter clothes: Tight long black jeans, a long-sleeved red turtleneck, grey boots with wool on the inside to keep her toes warm, a pink winter coat, a white knit hat, and white knit mittens.
Identifying Marks: None
Musculature: Average for a girl her age and size
Personality: Ruby is a very compassionate young woman and is always willing to help others since she knows what it’s like to struggle. Even with the firsthand experience with how hard the world is, she prefers to stay positive because the alternative is less ideal. She’s also a bit ditzy at times often forgetting things like homework.
Skills: Ruby shared the household chores with her mother so she knows how to take care of herself on her own. At least in an urban setting…
Past: Ruby was born in mid-July to her single, 19-year-old mother Louise. Louise had just started college as a Freshman the previous Fall but she got stupidly drunk at a party and had a one night stand which got her pregnant. The once party girl quickly cleaned up her act in order to properly care for the new life growing inside her, even if that meant dropping out of college to get a paying job. Louise’s parents were no help in the matter as they believed she had thrown away a promising future and cut all ties with her. As Ruby grew up she lived a life of hardship but also one of gratitude. She learned to appreciate the people in her life, especially those who give support to others, as well as the value of hard work. She and her mother are very close because they are all each other had. One particular relationship that always captivated her was the one between people and Pokémon. The way they worked together to accomplish things that would be impossible otherwise and the amount of trust between Trainers and their partners was inspiring.

When Ruby was old enough, she decided it was time for her to begin her own Pokémon Journey. Before leaving, Ruby made her mom to promise that while she was away, her mom would go back to school and make her own dreams come true as well. Louise agreed, proud of the mature young woman her daughter was becoming. Mature was a bit of a stretch though. Ruby’s career as a Pokémon Trainer had a slow start. Due to missing the bus, Ruby had to wait for another one resulting in her being late getting to Prof. Oak’s Lab. Since the other Starters of the year had already been chosen, she got the last available Pokémon, a Squirtle. Ruby didn’t mind though since she was having trouble deciding which of the three to choose and this made the choice easy. Plus he was so cute! ♥
Family: Mother: Louise Pratt, Father: Not in the picture and doesn’t even know Ruby exists, Maternal Grandparents: Disowned Louise after she got pregnant

Nickname: Leonardo “Leo”

Special Features: Slightly darker blue skin tone
History: Since the day he was hatched, Leo was carefully raised to be a Starter Pokémon to be given out by Prof. Oak. Even though he was picked last out of his cohorts this year, he holds no resentment towards them.
Personality: No matter the odds, this Squirtle never gives up and is very persistent in reaching his goals. Of course, once he reaches those goals he becomes very modest when people praise him on his accomplishments, believing himself just to be an average Pokémon.
