Background
Wealth, Fame, Power; Gold Roger, the king of the pirates, obtained this and everything else the world had to offer! And his dying words drove countless souls to the seas:

You want my treasure? It's yours! I left everything I have gathered in one place! Now all you have to do is find it!

These words drove countless men to the Grand Line, in pursuit of dreams greater than they could ever dare to imagine. Thus began the Great Pirate Era!

So began a legendary story that is still going on even today. Needless to say, Eichiro Oda has created a wondrous, beautiful world to explore and experience. And so I figured, why not chart our own course through it? Yes, the tale I spoke of above still rings true, but I figured we'd try to create new settings and characters that have never been seen in the pages of Oda's expansive epic! What adventures will our pirate crew experience, and what will their legacy be in this vast, mysterious world? Welcome to One Piece: New Dynasty.

We will be starting in one of the four oceans of the One Piece World (as determined by a vote), and whether your character already begins as a crew member or will join it sometime down the line is up to you. Would you rather RP as a revolutionary or Marine? You're more than welcome to!

Rules
1) It should go without saying, but please make sure to follow Pokecharms' Rules. I don't want anyone getting banned or kicked.
2) Romance is certainly allowed but try to keep it rated PG-13 at most.
3) Godmodding is a strict no-no, obviously.
4) You can play as many characters as you'd like, but make sure you can manage them all. I'd personally recommend no more than three.
5) Please treat your fellow RPers with courtesy and respect.
6) Have fun! As per usual, that's what I aim to bring when making these threads.
7) Nobody will be starting with Haki, but we will eventually start using it later in the RP.

Name: Thordrick Asbjorn
Age: 18
Gender: Male
Race: Human
Crew Role: Heavy-Hitting Tank

Appearance: Asbjorn is a tall, rotund yet muscular fellow with fair skin and shoulder-length blonde hair tied back in braids at the sides and a small beard gracing his chin. He is almost never seen without his fur-lined trench coat, even in the hottest of weather. Aside from that, he wears a pair of simple dark pants, brown leather boots, and a pair of fingerless leather gloves so he can grip his weapon better.

Personality: Asbjorn is steadfast and strong-willed, never backing down from a challenge no matter how much the odds are stacked against him. To him, each one's another chance to prove himself or strengthen himself into a greater warrior like his father. He also has a strong sense of honor and lives by a personal code and is especially loyal toward those he calls his comrades. When things get hazy, you can always count on Asbjorn to meet adversity head on with a smile on his face.

Backstory: Born in the frigid expanse of the island of Moskstraumen in the North Blue, Asbjorn was taught at a young age how to survive in the harsh lands he was reared up in by his father, Thordrick Rollo, a retired pirate captain who led a small fleet across the North Blue, bringing home riches and earning glory and honor to his family. However, one day, his father was called out to sea to aid an allied nation's fight against the Marines of the World Government, and never came back. He and his fleet vanished into thin air. Refusing to believe the rumors that his father was dead (as the allied nation was subdued), he stole his family's fishing knarr one night and sailed off to look for him.

Likes: Beef recipes (his favorite being beef stew), sailing, fighting, fishing, card games
Dislikes: tight spaces (Claustrophobia), unfair treatment, the World Government and those affiliated

Misc.: His weapon of choice is a huge warhammer.

Previously Night's Shadow
Name: Seven
Age: 6 (appears to be in late teens/early 20s)
Gender: Female
Race: Automaton
Crew Role: Healer

Appearance: With smooth porcelain skin and silvery, almost bluish white hair, Seven looks like a glass doll that could fall apart if you look at her the wrong way. Of course, looks can be deceiving— she is, in reality, quite the capable fighter and extremely sturdy. She has wide blue eyes that almost seem to glow, set into a heart shaped face with delicate features, and a frame with just enough curves to be noticeable. Seven isn’t tall, standing at around 5’4”.

Personality: Seven is cheerful, but most often keeps to herself unless spoken to. However, she will certainly chime in if a dangerous idea is being discussed. It’s against her core programming to allow those under her protection to be hurt unless there is no other option. Essentially the mom friend, Seven doesn’t mind petty disputes, but she will get between any fight that gets physical between those she perceives as friends, even if she doesn’t know them. However, she is definitely not above threatening physical violence herself as a deterrent to head off fights.

Likes: Cooking and baking, the smell of saltwater, light breezes, sunny days that aren’t too hot
Dislikes: People who won’t shut up for a second, when her friends do stupid/reckless things, repeating herself, the rain

Backstory: Seven was the seventh (no way!) model in a line of automatons ordered into creation by a World Noble. She never knew his name, as it was a name “unworthy to be spoken from the mouth of an artificial being,” nor did she ever learn the name of her creator. All Seven was taught was to only speak when spoken to, and to keep the World Noble safe. When asked why she was named Seven and not One, she was struck, and told to be quiet.

Three years or so after her activation date, Seven came across the records of Automatons One through Six while on patrol, when she may or may not have gotten curious and sidetracked from her job of checking the perimeter. Each model had a slightly different design, new features added, and the appearance tweaked. Each of the older models had a red stamp over their picture, reading “Terminated,” along with more notes scribbled in red ink of improvements to make in the next model. Seven now knew her past, and her future if she didn’t live up to her Master’s vision of an ideal automaton aide.

And yet, every day, his treatment of her grew worse, his irritation palpable, until after three more years, Seven struck back in self-defense. Her reinforced, artificial body did its job— her blow knocked him out in one hit. Terrified of what she had done, knowing that she, too, would have a red “Terminated” stamp across her record the moment the Noble awoke and contacted her manufacturer, Seven made her escape. She stole a small boat and set out minutes later, in the dead of night, not knowing where she was going— only that it was away from them.

Misc.: Seven utilizes the nanobots in her “bloodstream” in order to heal wounds at a microscopic level— though this does take time. While artificial, she looks, feels, and sounds like a normal human, albeit one unnaturally pale and designed to be attractive. Her “skin” feels like skin, etc., and she possesses all the senses of a human (including the ability to feel pain) though her senses of taste and smell are far below and her sense of sight is far above human. She has a myriad of tools built into her— think a walking Swiss Army Knife. While well-waterproofed, Seven’s reinforced internal workings and tools are too heavy for her to swim effectively for extended periods of time.

Name: Jack C. Calico

Age: 21

Gender: Male

Race: Human

Crew Role: Navigator

Appearance: He is an average height, average framed person, his skin is pale but
Personality: He is a serious young man, stern of mouth and fist, and keeps his focus on the task at hand in a dangerous situation. He is ever the watchful of weather, direction and other things he would need to do.

Likes: (Optional)

Dislikes: (Optional)

Backstory: Calico was born to Jack Louis, and a woman who died when he was two, he lived with his father until age nine, when someone killed his father in cold blood, Calico had no idea why his father died the way he did, while he was out, around, he discovered the Goro Goro no Mi, completely on accident, ended up eating it for lunch one day and electrocuted a tree by accident. He was thinking on keeping the power relatively in control, and was picked up by some street fighters trying to deal with the World Government in their town, at that point, he left town in an attempt to find peace, which he found through cartography, and a sense of direction. He was seventeen when he left, and had been wandering the seas with a small boat that he managed to win after nearly electrocution the guy who owned it in a Duel. He's been wanted since, and figured maybe joining a pirate crew would try to keep people off of him. His staff is a recent acquisition and he has no ideas of the properties.

Misc.: His staff can be a lightning rod if placed in the ground. He has not discovered this yet.

Devil Fruit (Logia): Goro Goro no Mi
.

Name: Morgan D. Laura

Age: 19

Gender: Female

Race: Human

Crew Role: Long Range fighter, but also could be the face of the crew, assisting the Captain with endeavors in towns and such.

Appearance: Semi long, blue hair tied back on a tall and feminine frame, her arm muscle is not as developed, but her legs are more so due to running to keep herself away from close attacks. She usually wears more minimal clothing, this is so her clothes don't burn away whenever she uses her power. However, in the colder months, she is known to put an overcoat on in case of extreme weather. Her arms are riddled with burn scars from discovering her abilities with the Flame Flame Fruit.

Personality: Being an Optimist, she aims for the positive, and is seemingly a socialite, knowing her way around various situations, and able to attempt to befriend people, making Connections that can help herself and her close friends, the Crew. However, she can be a tough and brutal opponent in battle.

Likes: People, Socializing, Food

Dislikes: Scorpions, Being Alone, Getting Ambushed.

Backstory: Morgan D. Laura was born to Morgan D. Anne and an unknown father, he died shortly before she was born. Her and her mother lived in the starting town (if there is one, if not, the first town the Crew reaches), she had seen her daughter making friends with literally anyone she could come across. When she was nine years old, she came across a strange Fruit on a tree, not sure what it was, or what it tasted like, she ate the whole fruit. Suddenly, flames shot from her hands, causing burns to herself and her mother, who was looking for her, tried to stop her. When the flames died down, both had burns that would leave scarring. It was those burns that prompted her to try and control them, which led to her keeping the power secret for eight years, while keeping the Fruit abilities under control. At the current time, her mother had been working, but was mixed up in a Robbery and was framed. So Naturally, she went to get help.

Misc.: She hasn't discovered she cannot swim from eating the Mera Mera no Mi.

Devil Fruit (Logia): Mera Mera no Mi.

Devil Fruit (Logia): Suna Suna no Mi.
Both accepted, but with Morgan, it seems there's a mix up with devil fruits. You seem to be describing the Mera Mera no Mi (Flame Flame Fruit) in her backstory and appearance, but you put down her devil fruit as Suna Suna no Mi (Sand Sand Fruit).

@=Nightshade= @Cmeriwether @Demonic Bunny

Set up a poll to determine our starting ocean, and now that we have five crew members, I have two more announcements:

1) I was thinking of choosing our crew's captain (if anyone else is interested in the role) by random. If you would like to add your character to the raffle, let me know.

2) Please send me a DM to let me know if your character(s) are either starting on the crew already or will be joining at some point within the story. Then we can discuss in more detail how the characters who are already together met.

I should not be doing this but screw it lmao! One Piece is just on another level right now.

Name: Zenith

Age: 17

Gender: Male

Race: Human

Crew Role: Lookout/Swashbuckler (Could also be first or second mate)

Appearance: Light-skinned with a slim, athletic physique. Has medium length light-blue hair that goes just past his ears and eyes. For clothing, he wears the classic marine recruit outfit unbuttoned, with some tears in the fabric. His pants are navy blue shorts that go just past the knees. The footwear are just black slippers. Has a crossed out symbol of the Marines out his left shoulder.

Personality: Due to his seemingly lackadaisical and carefree attitude, most would say he has his head in the clouds. Carries more of an easy going approach for most things.

Likes: Food, adventure, freedom, sleeping

Dislikes: Work, bugs, bullies, liars

Backstory: Was born somewhere on the Grand Line to a long family of Marines. When he was young, his family tried to instill into him the same morals of the World Government. Pirates were supposed to be evil, but they seemed to have much more fun. When he was 10, Zenith tried to sail away on a little raft he made by himself. The seas eventually became very turbulent that day and he eventually lost control of his raft before falling in the water. He next woke up, washed ashore on a small tropical island. Starving and scared, Zenith spent two days there alone, eating whatever fruits looked tasty. On the third day, a ship of pirates pulled up and found the child. Judging from his battered state and what Zenith said, they were able to put two and two together.

To his surprise, the pirates weren’t evil or cruel. Instead, they patched him up, gave him food, and even let him on a party. It was so much fun, but he couldn’t remember the last half of it for some reason. Probably because he had drank something he wasn’t supposed too. Zenith just remembered being very hungry the next day. A moment in particular did allow him to fill his stomach. There were some pirates having a drunk argument over something and they didn’t stop Zenith from having one of the fruits on the ship. The one he began munching on was a very fluffy and soft fruit composed of many cloud shaped parts with swirls on them. The pirates only realized when it was too late and freaked out. One of them tried to get him to spit it back out, but when they touched his shoulders, theirs hands seemed to go through as small puffy clouds came out. He had eaten the Kumo Kumo No Mi. When the Captain found out, he just laughed and said Zenith should come up with them. The enthusiasm caused Zenith to laugh along with him and join the pirates.

For the few months he was with them, Zenith realized that they were an infamous group of Devil Fruit hunters. They find devil fruits and would sell them off for crazy amounts of berries. With their knowledge, they were able to help him control his basic DF abilities a bit. It didn’t take him long to be able to willfully create or become a cloud. With those abilities, he was able to assist in their navigational capabilities abilities just a bit by being able to detect the different clouds in the sky and almost predict the weather. Unfortunately, all good things did come to an end. Eventually they had a Marine Ship on their tails. It was no normal Marine Battleship since there was a Vice Admiral on board. After a brief battle, the Marines made it clear that new Zenith was on board and demanded them to turn him over. At first, Zenith thought the pirates would just hand him over to protect themselves, but the Captain said Zenith was also one of them. He watched tearfully as the Pirates engaged in a losing battle against the Marines. Zenith didn’t want to go back, but he didn’t want to see his friends die.

The clouds in the sky grew darker as Zenith grew further stressed and wanted to help. Then with a loud crack, lighting shot down straight into the Marine cruiser. It was minor damage, but still enough to get everyone’s attention. With a loud shout, Zenith said he’d go with the Marines if they let the Pirates go. The Vice Admiral said he would and told him to come. The Captain tried to get Zenith to stay, but he just flew away on his cloud while saying sorry. It seemed like that was the end of it, but then then the Battleship mercilessly rained fire on the already damaged pirate ship, lighting up the dark, stormy skies. He just remembered seeing the blazing ocean as they sailed away. Zenith was mad the Vice Admiral lied to him, but they told him it was alright to lie when it was Pirate scum.

When Zenith returned to his parents, he didn’t say a word about his ventures. All they knew was that he now had a powerful DF. In order to protect him in case he did something like that again, they branded him with the tattoo of the Marine symbol on his left arm. While his parents tried to educate him in the ways of the Marines as he grew older, Zenith would just nod along. At times, he considered creating a small ship to sail away, but that seemed like a bit too much work. He could fly away, but he was too young to survive out in the Grand Line on his own. So, Zenith remained complacent for the next few years.

As he grew, so did his abilities. He began to learn more about clouds and what each of them could do. He could create small clouds to shoot lightning out of them, burning and shocking his sparring partners. With rain clouds, he could store water and shoot out pressurized bursts at rapid speeds. Creating clouds capable of snowfall was a bit more difficult, but possible. Other nifty abilities included creating thick fog, cloud clones, and weapons made of clouds.

Eventually, Zenith became a Marine recruit. He despised doing the chore work like the rest of his comrades and didn’t actually do it most of the times until being scolded by the officer in charge. On top of that, there were a lot of strict rules that needed to be followed. His fellow marines wondered why someone like him, who didn’t follow many orders, did much work, and slacked off was there. For Zenith, the most exciting part of being a Marine was traveling and encountering other Pirates. He snuck out one day to a bar and encountered some pirates who were sharing stories of their own tables and certain treasure they’d ere after. For 16 year old at the time, that inspired him and he decided to just ditch the Marines. After crossing out the symbol of the marines on his arm, Zenith started his own journey.

Misc: Light on his feet and quite susceptible to being blown away by large gusts of wind. Things that dry up or absorb water or air are also very dangerous for him to be around. Later on he can fly by turning the lower half of his body to a cloud to fly at the top speed of a tornado’s winds. Cloud vehicles and tools are also things that can be created.

Devil Fruit (Logia): Kumo Kumo no Mi (Cloud Cloud Fruit)

Alright, so for the crew roles so far, we have:
A brawler with the Gomu-Gomu no Mi
A hard-hitting tank
A Sniper with the Mera-Mera no Mi
A Medic
A Navigator with the Goro-Goro no Mi
and our latest entry:

@Retro Master Our Lookout, with the Kumo-Kumo no Mi

Note to self: Ensure to add sturdy safety rails to ship design XD

Alright, so I got a nice introductory arc all set for us, but I want to discuss one more thing before we begin and while we're waiting for a newcomer who's planning to join, and before we begin the actual RP (I plan to start the thread this coming Saturday at latest): I'd like to talk about how we can balance out the Logia users in the early game, since without haki at first, this makes them extremely hard to fight. The two of us came up with a couple of ideas, but I'd like to hear your opinions and ideas as well.

-I came up with the idea of temporarily prohibiting the ability to shapeshift until the users are more adjusted to their powers, roughly around the same time we introduce Haki to keep a level playing field and such. @Cmeriwether from what I recall had this in mind with his two characters.
-The newcomer, Mango, suggested that Logia users would have more limited Haki abilities; no advanced forms of haki or conquerer's haki.

What are your thoughts/ideas?

Yeah limiting the logias makes sense since they’re pretty powerful before New World. As for the Haki, would that also be an early limit for logia users? Once haki is a thing, their intangibility is countered pretty easily.

I did, and they have basic abilities, if I go for any haki on these two it would be Observation for Calico to help with his Navigation.

Yeah there’ll definitely need to be power scaling, but limiting Logia user’s Haki won’t really come into play to balance until later when… well, the rest of the cast starts getting Haki. Flattening the learning curve I feel like would make it more balanced from the get-go. Don’t really have a strong opinion tho.

And for scaling Seven with the other characters, I figure her nanobots will likely become a large part of her combat ability, considering she is made up of mostly organic material and can’t just be customized or updated like a stereotypical robot despite being artificially created. I’ll probs have her learn more about her own makeup as the RP goes on and find more uses for the nanotech, perhaps gaining more efficient ways to use her energy, etc. We’ll see, I guess, lol, didn’t think about it a whole lot XD

Anyways that’s my slightly-more-than-two cents ¯\(ツ)

In my character’s backstory, they actually already learned how to control their body, so it would be weird if they couldn’t completely shape-shift at all. In general, I think the shape shifting part is the most basic function of a logia. However, it’s also stated that a logia user must consciously activate their transformation and cannot do so automatically, although experienced users are capable of transforming reflexively rather needing to be fully aware of an attack.

I was thinking to play off the experience part in that our logia users would have to be able to react fast enough and focus a good amount into transforming a specific part of their body. That way they are much more susceptible to attacks at the start without being completely powerless. Think of the bullet going right through Ace before the BB fight and the skill level required to do transform that quickly and precise reflexively. An inexperienced logia user would simply be unable to do such a feat in such a short amount of time. Basically, they wouldn’t be able to reflexively avoid strong, surprise, or quick attacks unless they have ample time to react.

Seastone seems to be forgotten nowadays
I know about Seastone, but the problem I have regarding it is that from what I can tell, access to it is restricted heavily, so it might not be common enough to be a balance all it's own.

Can I be captain?
I'll put you on the raffle for it, sure.

This is something I didn't know about, and a decent alternative solution. When I read about logias on the OP wiki, it stated it was a natural intangibility to all but Haki, Seastone, and Higher/Superior elements, or those of which that countered the element. Thank you for bringing this to my attention.
