Name: Renz Flintrock
Age: 20
Gender: Male
Hometown: Malie City, Alola
Trainer Class: Ace Trainer, Ground Specialist
Appearance:
Renz stands over 6ft tall, and is in good physical shape. He has dark brown (practically black) hair that is currently cut fairly short. His eyes are blue with green and brown flecks, and his skin is tanned from his years growing up under the Alolan sun. Upon one wrist is a white Z-Ring, and on the other is an old wrist watch of the same color. It no longer keeps perfect time, but runs several minutes behind. A faded decal of a stylistic Dialga is located right next to the watch’s face.
At the time of the story’s beginning, he is wearing a pair of navy blue jeans, a loose sky blue T-Shirt with a ‘World Tournament 20XX’ logo, and a belt with an attachment that holds three PokeBalls at a time.
Personality:
Renz is generally a fairly cheery and passionate individual, although he’s also a firm realist and recognizes that some things won’t go the way he hopes or plans for. He cares deeply about friends and family, and is loyal to a fault. He is usually friendly but somewhat introverted. While he always tries to be polite, in many cases he sticks to friends he’s already made, and focuses more on deepening bonds with them and ensuring they remain his friends rather than seeking out new ones. He is highly enthusiastic about battling, although he always prefer a match be on friendly terms, or at least not out of a necessity. He has strong bonds with his team, forged through hardship and triumph, and he cares about all of them. His greatest ambition in life has been to become a Gym Leader.
He avoids watching any sort of game show on television or the internet. He also dislikes people touching his Pokémon’s Pokéballs, with a few exceptions (Kathren, his parents, and possibly some of his friends from his... adventures, I suppose, in Sinnoh.) He also seems to have a fear of Spinda, although most people don’t know where this seemingly irrational phobia springs from. He also dislikes the sound of machines like lawnmowers and chainsaws, although this dislike is more bearable.
Backstory:
Renz was born in Malie City, Alola. His father, George, is a native of the area, passionate about exploring and finding interesting things. His mother, Terisa, comes from Kanto and took on the league challenge. They are both good people and raised Renz to be one as well. Renz’s family owns a trinket shop in Malie City’s shopping district, where they have an apartment above the shop. Renz grew up helping around the shop, attending school, and playing with the other kids. When he was 13, his parents gave him an egg for his birthday. His father had found it on a curio hunting trip in the Haina desert. When it hatched, he met his partner, Gible. After a time they set off on a journey in Alola, capturing a few Pokémon to join their team and taking on some of the Island Trials. Before long, Renz and his team would leave the region and go to Sinnoh to take part in the Gym Challenge there and begin the first step in the process of becoming a Gym Leader. However, while he was still in the region he met a very important person, later to become his closest friend: Kathren Tretoes. The two young trainers met in the Malie Gardens, and after dealing with runaway partner Pokémon together, they became friends.
The two traveled in Sinnoh together for a time, and in their journeys into the wilds they encountered a strange palace. Upon exploring further, they met Possibillit, the Spinda King. He demanded that the two bow down to him, and when the two trainers refused, they were swarmed by Spinda and knocked out. They spent several days in the Spinda Palace, more specifically in the dungeon. Renz was poisoned by some of the food brought to them, but the Spinda King wanted them intact. He punished the cook, an odd purple-spotted Spinda, with death by The Shredder. The horrified trainers managed to befriend a Litwik who acted as the candle in their cell and escape. They retrieved their Pokémon, ran past the Spinda inhabiting the castle and the duo of Typhlosion that stood guard at the gates, and fled into the forest. They had escaped, but it was not the last they were to see of the Spinda Army. Not long after, they rescued an injured Typhlosion, one of the guards that had unintentionally allowed the duo to escape. His leg had been brutally slashed and injured beyond repair by the Spinda King’s Shredder. They brought him to a Pokémon Center, the Nurse was able to heal him, but had to amputate the injured leg in order to save him.
Not long after, the Pokémon Center was attacked by some of the Spinda King’s forces, leaving Renz and Kathren to flee. The two had to go on the run, trying to stay under the radar to evade the Spinda King’s grasp. In time they went their separate ways, and although they stayed in touch remotely it was some time before they saw one another in person again. When they finally reunited, it was in the midst of crisis. An organization known as SSMR was in the process of taking over the Sinnoh region, and Renz had been caught up in an effort to stop them alongside some new friends and allies. In the process of one of their missions, they just happened to run into Kathren, and she was swept along with the group. The adventure was odd, including entering a virtual reality in which the group had to combat digital versions of themselves with opposite personalities. But despite the group’s best efforts, they were captured by SSMR late on Halloween night.
After three months of solitary captivity, the members of the group were re-united in a specially made cell that resembled a large apartment. Their captors had turned their lives into entertainment, watching their activities as if it were a sitcom and sometimes forcing them into various tortuous events, including but not limited to: acting like pet Pokémon, going on a date with the Grunt of the Month, and performing a talent show in pajamas. Eventually they were rescued from their prison and Sinnoh was freed. Things returned to normal for most people. But it left lasting effects on the group. Both Renz and Kathren ended up more damaged than before by their experiences with the SSMR. One good thing did come of their time in captivity, though. Kathren finally gained the courage to confess her romantic feelings towards Renz.
Now the two are in a relationship. Kathren is back at her home in Johto, attending school to get herself set up for her career. Renz has taken a position as a Gym Aide under Giovanni (very hesitantly, considering the man is a formal criminal, albeit the greatest Ground type specialist the world has seen) at the Viridian City Gym, working on the internship requirement for his attempt to become a Gym Leader. He visits Kathren over the weekends, and spends the rest of the week with his maternal grandparents at ‘Marleen Mansion’.

I have returned. It all comes full circle, right back to the place where my career as a competent roleplayer began...
And thus it begins again. *ominous laughter*
