Open CoDA - (A Superpower RP) Still Accepting New Arrivals

"Fine, but for a being of your age you sure act with surprising naivety." Oliver said, putting the red syringe away before turning its attention to Kevin and Aura, ready to intervene the moment the beast would make its move.

Kevin in turn had continued to stare at Aura, trying to process with what limited brain function it had as to why the girl would help it. Thankfully Sky and others had been keeping the hounds busy to allow for this momentary break.

"Well, I may gain experiences, but I never mature. Not always a good thing, but hey. And this isn't naivety, this is me being sure of something. There's a difference."

"Fine, but there's something you should know. The information Ms. McKnight sent about the boy, while accurate to a degree, is far from the whole story. Unlike other students Kevin's powers didn't come by an accident or natural causes, but through the mind of a madman. Kevin's bio will tell you he was an orphan who Ms. McKnight found and was exposed to natural radiation, in truth he and several other children were kidnapped and experimented on by a mad scientist trying to create an army of animal/human hybrids. Kevin is the only known survivor of the operation." Oliver said, Ms. McKnight was going to kill him for this, but the school needed to know the truth behind Kevin's origins and the condition of his powers.

Sky's brow furrowed, and he replied "Right. I'll have to update his file, but it's all right. A lot of students who come here are some result of an experiment, and we're used to dealing with them. But I must ask, how were you created? I've never seen a human machine with this high of a conscious before."

"I'm Ms. McKnight's greatest, non combat, achievement. She's a genius, having worked on A.I. programs her entire life. I'm the result of decades of effort. Funny enough, my original purpose was to be an assistant and help her create inventions to help the population and combat the forces of evil. While I do serve that purpose, once she brought the boy in, I was given the task of looking after him whenever she was off doing hero duty." Oliver said before letting out a sigh, more for dramatic effect than anything else.

"And that's my main point. I know Kevin better than anyone else. The boy...is not well. The experiments done to him have messed with his not only his DNA, but his mental state as well. The isolation, the loss of his birth parents and his experiences with the experimentation have taken a toll. To the point where I suspect Kevin has began to develop a split personality." Oliver explained, voicing his own fears after having seen Kevin develop over the years.

"It's not a suspicion. The way he behaves when he enters this form is, well, animal-like. And I must admit, that is very impressive. Humanity has come pretty far." "And I'm gonna have to bring it back down sooner or later," Sky muttered to himself. "Isolation is a dangerous thing. If I had any sort of sanity in the first place, I would have gone insane, living in isolation for something like five hundred years. So, I'm afraid, you'll have to accept it. The boy, and the beast, are two very different people."

"It's why Ms. McKnight wanted Kevin to come here, not just to learn to be a hero, but more importantly to make friends. She's optimistic enough to believe Kevin can get over this, tame the power within and use it for good; all he needs is support. I'm more doubtful. Kevin's DNA is wild and his mental state is unstable. I don't share her belief things will work out." Oliver said, showing his doubt.

"I'm not going to hurt you, I'm trying to help you" Aura said slowly to Kevin. She ran forward towards him and pulled up her sword, she then jumped to the side and slashed an approaching hound, disintegrating it.

Kevin got defensive as Aura charged him with a sword, only to relax when she used it on another hound. This further confused the beast, why was this girl helping him? Why was she not afraid? Questions like this were causing Kevin's primal brain to hurt. Kevin slammed its tail on the ground, as if it asked the girl give it an answer to the questions she couldn't hear inside his head.

"I'm helping you because I know you're still in there" Aura said calmly. She conjured her ice shield and blocked off another hound then stabbed it with her sword. "The real Kevin is in there, he's just not in control" She said, Aura had never done combat like this, normally she'd be cowering away, but it was different this time. She had to help.

Kevin responded with a growl. Before slamming its tail into a charging hound that sent it flying.

Stupid girl, Kevin is GONE! What better way to prove it then to take her head off!

Kevin charged the girl, clawed hand ready, as the reptilian voice gave it an order it intended to complete. Oliver above looked on with horror.

"AURA!" Oliver cried out, flying down to get in the way. Oliver knew however it couldn't make it in time. Kevin's clawed hands swung forward, ready to take the girl's head clean off with one strike.

A-Aura?

With claws mere inches from Aura's face, Kevin suddenly stopped. Kevin's body shook as it remained in place while a battle in his mind began.

What the hell! I thought you were out of it. Let me move! I have to kill this brat!

N-Never! She's my friend...I won't let you hurt her!

Kevin began to back off, his hands on his head as the beast struggled to do anything while the two voices waged their verbal war for control.

Aura thrust her arms out in front of her, creating a see-through shield. "You know me" Aura said. "You're in control, remember?" She said. Aura rolled out from under the shield and stood in front of Kevin, her sword at ready for any approaching hounds. "You can fight it" She said.

The beast shot a glare at Aura.

Who does this brat think she is? I'm in control!

"Kevin's gone...." The beast said, surprisingly using spoken language as it moved forward. Ready to smash the girl into nothing. However, Kevin's body suddenly stopped as it refused to move forward or move its limbs, Kevin's conscious giving a fight to prevent the beast from hurting his friend.

"W-why? Why...can't I move...stupid girl..." The beast said with venom, a desire to kill her growing but its body remained still.

Wyst had to literally carve a pathway to Sky, the Hounds swarmed around like insects, plentiful and exceedingly irritating. At some point in time the Scythe in her had morphed into a thin Rapier which pierced the skulls of any mutt withing 5 ft of her. She had heard Rio shout something about an Alpha wolf, but she hadn't quite located it. In fact, speaking of Rio, did that Dragon just squawk? Rio had managed to thoroughly trample on any and every thing Wyst thought she knew about dragons. Her momentary shock faded quickly, though her brow still creased with a perplexed expression.

Her expression only grew stranger as her attention was caught by a pair of students who seemed to be engaged in combat while Sky.........watched?

Are we or are we not, in an emergency situation?

Wyst mentally complained. Was this really a responsible thing to do? Maybe she should stop them? Maybe not? She sent a questioning gaze over to Sky, awaited further orders. At least if anything went wrong, she could pass off the blame, after all, she was only following orders ~

"You see?" Sky told Oliver, a knowing smile on his face, "She was fine. And now the original personality has overrided the body. You might want to inject that shit you showed me earlier, whilst he can't move." He then spotted Wyst and flew down, his form coming into existence next to her. "Don't worry about that. Just some stuff I needed to do, like prove to a mechanical owl that students can handle themselves." Sky said to her, sounding slightly annoyed. "Anyway, I need you to get the students to safety. Defend the ground until they get into the volcano, and once they're all in, go the panel next to the entrance and type in 'LOCKDOWNCODA' all one word and in capitals. You got that." Gah, repeating myself is so annoying. But I probably should have known that the kids wouldn't do it, they'd much rather be out fighting

Rio groaned, keeling over slightly and suddenly. Her bond with Aurrea had, for lack of a better description, jerked slightly. It literally was an invisible string attached to her heart, feeling like something had strummed the fragile cord carelessly like a guitar. And of course, one can imagine, the feeling was rather painful. Rio seemed dazed, blinking her head and huffing as if something messed with her head. Not to mention, her more primal instincts seemed to feed off of Kevin's alter ego, it must be because of them both being reptiles. Somewhat. Technically Rio was half avian...

The sudden whoosh of air and the sharp sound of jaws clacking together snapped Rio out of her daze, even though her dizziness was not cured. The Alpha of the pack had missed the headmistress just barely while her guard was down. The beast made a deep, guttural growl, rumbling through its entire body and Rio responded in kind, her own growl equally intimidating. The saber fanged dog leapt for the half dragon, who nimbly leapt straight up and clawed her way across its massive head.

Sensing her plan, the dog began to buck and squeal in fear, clearly less intelligent and more primal than the previous creature. None the less, Rio dug her golden claws into the sickly violet flesh of the canine and held tight. Stomping and snarling, the monster showed no signs of tiring. Rio, on the other hand, was getting real tired of this stalling real quick, and scored her claws through the dog's hump back. The thing screamed, thrashing more wildly than ever as the woman on his back dug her claws deep through the fatty tissue and hooked her claws around the amber gem within it.

Tugging it clean out of the beast, the black tar like blood covering it caused the rather bulky gem to slip right out of the dragon's claws. There was a brief pause as the two watched the gem fall into the sandy soil beneath them with a thunk, before Rio leapt off the back of the dog to scramble after it. The dog yipped, for lack of a better word to describe the inhuman and plain demonic sound that came from its jaws. Snapping foreword, it managed to catch Rio by the leg, causing the headmistress to snarl back at it in pain.

Her mouth parted, lips peeled back in the silent snarl as embers built up in the back of her throat, prepared to incinerate the monster to oblivion. Her bond tugged again, and her heart gem flickered and audibly sparked before dimming dramatically that the gem seemed dull. Rio choked on her own flames, some unknown noise of shock coming from her. Suddenly, she was flying through the air, being sharply shaken this way and that like a chew toy, hitting the ground quite a few times before being thrown off.

Huffing in satisfaction, the dog stumbled towards its gem, believing the headmistress was no longer a threat. That is, until a primal roar unlike Rio's usual combination (which was like a human doing a really, really, really great impression of a roar combined with a war cry) came from the side. The primal dragon like noise took the dogs attention, although it was much to late as a flame engulfed Draco came slamming into the beast's side, sending them both careening into the forest.

"I-I don't...you got lucky this time." Oliver said to Sky before flying down to Kevin, ready to give him the injection to suppress the beast transformation. Oliver flew behind Kevin, looking to inject in the back of the neck. However, while Kevin had restrained nearly all of the beast, the creature wasn't gonna go down so easily. Kevin's tail suddenly swang at Oliver, trying to smash the owl with the one limb it still had control of. Oliver just barley managed to dodge the attack, flying up to avoid Kevin's strike.

"Oh darn it, I see the beast isn't ready to quit. This is a problem. Hey...Aura right? It seems you have some affect on the beast. Distract Kevin long enough for me to inject this syringe into him, it will turn him back to normal." Oliver said to Aura, giving the girl a view of the syringe in question.

Shit! Without a word, Sky disappeared, and instantly reappeared where he saw Rio. "Rio? Are you there?" He asked, then turned to the flaming pile in the forest. Well, she was there, but all Sky could get from the link was a fuzz which he recognised quite well. He began to feed his own energy into the bond, trying to give her enough power to wake up. But what the hell made her loose the much? I mean, there's something far away which my own link is trying to get to, but what coul- Hold on? Where's Aurrea? Oh... So that's why she's lost so much power. He attempted to walk forwards to help his comrade, but suddenly jumped back as he felt himself almost stand on something just like the hounds he'd been fighting, if not stronger. Looking at the ground, he grinned at seeing the orange orb sitting there. "Bingo," Sky smirked, and sent a blade of wind straight through the think, making it explore into an amber goo which flew everywhere. He put up a small shield, not wanting any of that stuff to touch him, then flew over to where he'd seen Rio and the Alpha, and was satisfied to see the dog disintegrating

While the other students were fighting, Ryker and Dalton were stuck babysitting. The students around them were all freaking out in their own way, while Ryker was annoyed. "This sucks," he mumbled while sitting cros legged.

Lily watched the battle below, wanting so badly to help. However, she knew she couldn't disobey her instructors and she might makes the situation worse (Like that one kid who turned into a monster). Lily had been with Ryka and Ryka's friends Tia & Clay before she noticed a younger student sitting crossed legged and not too happy.

"Don't worry about it. I know you want to help, but it's better for everyone if we stay here and help keep the other students safe." Lily said to the kid, offering her own support.

"Yeah, but I'm fired up to fight, and I got stopped by Sky." Ryker complained laying on his back. "And Kevin is loosing control. He could hurt someone, and I'd rather it be me, so the others are safe," Ryker whined putting his hands over his face. "I'm no leader, I'm a fighter. I punch things."

Dalton heard the younger kids complaints. The older student shook his head, and frowned. "You learn about these things. It's my Junior year, and of anything happens, kids don't help with the solution."

"Kevin? That beast is your friend? I'm sorry to hear that." Lily said, surprised the kid she decided to comfort happened to know the student that turned into that monster.

"And he's right. I'm a senior, believe me were are better off learning and listening to our instructors than getting involved and muking things up." Lily said, agreeing with the junior.

"He's my bud, and he needs help. We did pretty well together in the caves and a lot fo students helped out," Ryker said moaning. He really wasn't taking the whole babysitting thing, too well.

Ryker swallowed hard, and remeber what Kevin had warned him about earlier. "Umm, nothing happened," he mumbled his voice getting a bit weak.

"Yeah, what happened at these caves?" Dalton asked, raising an eyebrow.

"Nothing I swear," Ryker said nervously.

"I can tell you're lying. Come on, fess up. No point in lying now. The school is under attack. Besides not like your friend is in position to complain about it." Lily said, wanting to know what happened rather badly.

Tia watched from afar. Though she wanted to help the others it was probably a bad idea to go in there. "I'm fine with babysitting." said Ryka, who was still in her cat form. She licked the top of her paw on one of her forelegs. "I probably couldn't do much damage to those things anyways." "Yeah, but I probably could." Clay said. Tia groaned.
Meanwhile one junior was nowhere near this conversation. Her "cat form" (for lack of a better term) was much larger than Ryka's and resembled an Egyptian Mau. Approximately at least half the height of Kevin's reptilian form when on her hind legs, though that was only a guess. She lay down, her tail flicking back and forth as she watched the fighting. "Should I help, or should I stay out of it." she murmured to herself as she watched Aura and Oliver try to deal with Kevin.

The fight, thankfully was less climactic than the last, as moments after the Alpha had died, the hounds all howled in agony before bursting into black sludge and coating anything within the immediate radius of the small explosions. Well... there were a lot of hounds, so much of the beach was turned into the La Brea Tar Pits. That would be fun to clean up.

But of course, now all was seemingly calm and still, maybe not quiet and certain pockets of people still held a bit of tension, but for now the air seemed stagnant. The docks distantly continued to burn, the fires dying down and crackling in the distance as the black smoke polluted the otherwise clean and fresh air of the school. There was less energy now than before. The island had lost that certain, fiery feel to it.

If you haven't picked up on what was being referenced, skip to Rio. The headmistress, for all that is was worth, lay face down and seemed rather dull in the dirt. She had lost that glow of fire she usually had, her scales loosing much of their red brilliance, to say she looked more human was about as close as you could get to describing the aura that surrounded her.

She could have been taken for dead, since she was taking breaths so shallow her chest hardly rose at all. With a weak groan, she sluggishly rolled over and propped her body shakily on her arms, turning to gaze at Sky with her normal, human eyes. They had lost that fully reptilian, bottle green brilliance and seemed almost grey, but that was hardly worrying as was her heart: the gem had darkened to a sickly brown color, it gave off no pulse, and the thinnest of cracks spread across it's surface.

She did the one thing Aurrea had always warned her away from doing: activating her power to its fullest. Rio was lucky, having used it for such a short span of time and shutting it off so quickly.

"Rio!" Sky screamed (yup, he actually screamed.), and ran over to her. Once he could see her better, nothing looked good. The green eyes he'd grown familiar with had vanished, leaving only a dull grey behind. Her heart also didn't look too good, taking on the appearance of the orb he'd destroyed, and it looked almost... Cracked.

Sky reacted almost automatically, focusing on her heart. He cupped his hands, and the blue orb that held his sentience and power floated out of his chest, resting, or floating, above his palms. He closed his eyes, and began to mutter in that strange foreign language, and as he did so, a barely visible stream of energy began to flow from it, and into the top of the orange gem, feeding pure energy from his Core into her heart. I sure as hell hope this works, Sky commented to himself, as he felt his form begin to collapse. He held it in, but to an onlooker, it would look similar to a plume of smoke in the wind, shimmering slightly and disintegrating then jumping back into place again

"He isn't gone, he's in there and he can hear me" Aura said, she dropped her sword and shield to show that she meant no harm at all. She then slowly approached Kevin, "Kevin isn't a monster" She said, her eyes locked onto his.

Kevin, or rather the beast inside, let out a growl.

"Stupid girl...you don't know a thing....about him...what he's done...the people he's hurt...he IS a monster..." The beast said, trying to move its hand to strike Aura, but it wouldn't move.

"I...I don't get it...why can't I move...he's a weakling...he can't..." The beast said, keeping its tail on the defensive to keep Oliver away. Oliver just needed Aura to keep it talking, her words were having an effect despite the beast's denials.

Seems that while she was risking her life fighting, her master had been arguing with a mechanical owl, she quickly made a mental note to remove 'reliable' and 'sane' from Sky's list of traits, as he was clearly neither. Like the wind he was carefree, and like the wind he was gone before she knew it.

"Well, that happened.....", she murmured to herself before continue to combat the hounds. Eventually the hounds, merely dissipated by themselves, completely betraying Wyst's expectations for some great climactic battle. In one word, she was disappointed, in two words she felt Great disappointment, in three words - okay - you get the point. Well, unlike her master who let the students fight each other, Wyst decided she'd rather they not get hurt, and so she made her way towards the group of students in the distance. She at least wanted them where she could protect them, in case the Hounds suddenly resurrected, or zombified, very unlikely, but possible!

"He's not a weakling, he's strong" Aura said, she glanced behind her and saw somebody coming towards them, she pointed a finger towards the person and created a wall of ice, blocking the person away. "Stronger than you'll ever be, because without him, you're nothing" She said, this beast wasn't Kevin, even if they shared the same body, they seemed like two very different people.

"Darn...you...stupid brat..." The beast snarled at Aura, venom in its voice. However, Aura's words were giving Kevin's conscious enough control to stop the tail from moving. Oliver now had an opening. It flew and injected the syringe in the back of the beast's neck.

"RAAAAA"

The beast let out a roar as the syringe's contents began to take effect. The beast knew it would revert back to being trapped in Kevin, so it spent its last moment by giving Aura a glare.

"This...changes nothing. Your worthless friend will give in eventually. This body will be mine, and there's not a thing you or anyone else can do about it." The beast said to Aura, giving off a last threat as the chemical began to spread. Only a matter of time before Kevin would be back to normal.

"You're wrong, that body isn't yours and it never will be!" Aura shouted at the beast. She watched as the chemical spread and hoped it wouldn't be too long before he changed back. Aura slumped down onto the ground, panting, hopefully Kevin would be alright.

The beast let out one last roar before its body began to change back into Kevin's. After an extended de-change sequence Kevin is reverted to his regular form...and naked. The transformation having torn his clothes clean off. Kevin then fell to his face on the ground, faint and weak from the experience.

"Oh dear, don't look Aura I've come prepared for this." Oliver said, the mechanical owl flying in front of Aura's view to obstruct Kevin's...undignified form. Oliver then pulled out a fresh set of clothes from its body, folded and in surprisingly nice condition given the circumstances.

"Don't forget to pack extra clothes, you never know what could happen...why must that woman be right more often than not?" Oliver said, reciting a quote from Kevin's mother before it began to put the clothes on Kevin, not an easy task given its lack of thumbs and Kevin being limp during the process. Oliver was determined to get it done however.

"Don't worry, I'm not" Aura said, laying on her back and looking up at the darkish blue sky.

Aura conjured a long stick of ice in her hands and began to fiddle with it. She waved her hands to create patterns on the bottom of the stick, and a handle as well. She then sharpened it to make a sword. She wrinkled her nose and tossed it aside. She thought back to the sword and shield she had used against the hounds. It was an alright sword, but Aura had really liked using it.

"There, good as new. You okay my dear boy?" Oliver asked, flying back a little to examine the now fully clothed Kevin. Kevin remained on the ground for a moment before letting out a groan and eventually making it to his knees. Kevin tried to stand up only to fall to his butt, still weak from the experience.

"Easy now, after such an...experience. Your body needs rest. Don't be in a rush to move so fast." Oliver advised, its words making Kevin realize what happened. Unable to control himself Kevin began to tear up, almost to the point of crying as Kevin looked down at the ground unable to face Oliver.

"D-did...did I...how many did I hurt?" Kevin said, struggling to say the words. Kevin always assumed the worst whenever that thing came out.

"You didn't hurt anyone in the time I was watching you. Can't account for any time before that though." Laila said. The "giant" cat approached the group, walking on all fours. "And yes, I know I'm not supposed to be here. I was curious." Laila tilted her head.

Aura looked up and saw Kevin sitting weakly on the ground. "Kevin!" She exclaimed, "I'm glad you're alright"

Aura sat down beside Kevin and smiled at Oliver. She then looked at the newcomer whom she hadn't seen before.
