Rio groaned, keeling over slightly and suddenly. Her bond with Aurrea had, for lack of a better description, jerked slightly. It literally was an invisible string attached to her heart, feeling like something had strummed the fragile cord carelessly like a guitar. And of course, one can imagine, the feeling was rather painful. Rio seemed dazed, blinking her head and huffing as if something messed with her head. Not to mention, her more primal instincts seemed to feed off of Kevin's alter ego, it must be because of them both being reptiles. Somewhat. Technically Rio was half avian...
The sudden whoosh of air and the sharp sound of jaws clacking together snapped Rio out of her daze, even though her dizziness was not cured. The Alpha of the pack had missed the headmistress just barely while her guard was down. The beast made a deep, guttural growl, rumbling through its entire body and Rio responded in kind, her own growl equally intimidating. The saber fanged dog leapt for the half dragon, who nimbly leapt straight up and clawed her way across its massive head.
Sensing her plan, the dog began to buck and squeal in fear, clearly less intelligent and more primal than the previous creature. None the less, Rio dug her golden claws into the sickly violet flesh of the canine and held tight. Stomping and snarling, the monster showed no signs of tiring. Rio, on the other hand, was getting real tired of this stalling real quick, and scored her claws through the dog's hump back. The thing screamed, thrashing more wildly than ever as the woman on his back dug her claws deep through the fatty tissue and hooked her claws around the amber gem within it.
Tugging it clean out of the beast, the black tar like blood covering it caused the rather bulky gem to slip right out of the dragon's claws. There was a brief pause as the two watched the gem fall into the sandy soil beneath them with a thunk, before Rio leapt off the back of the dog to scramble after it. The dog yipped, for lack of a better word to describe the inhuman and plain demonic sound that came from its jaws. Snapping foreword, it managed to catch Rio by the leg, causing the headmistress to snarl back at it in pain.
Her mouth parted, lips peeled back in the silent snarl as embers built up in the back of her throat, prepared to incinerate the monster to oblivion. Her bond tugged again, and her heart gem flickered and audibly sparked before dimming dramatically that the gem seemed dull. Rio choked on her own flames, some unknown noise of shock coming from her. Suddenly, she was flying through the air, being sharply shaken this way and that like a chew toy, hitting the ground quite a few times before being thrown off.
Huffing in satisfaction, the dog stumbled towards its gem, believing the headmistress was no longer a threat. That is, until a primal roar unlike Rio's usual combination (which was like a human doing a really, really, really great impression of a roar combined with a war cry) came from the side. The primal dragon like noise took the dogs attention, although it was much to late as a flame engulfed Draco came slamming into the beast's side, sending them both careening into the forest.
