Private/Closed Don’t tell mom the gym leader’s dead (discussion thread)

You can. And if there happens to be anyone else waiting in the wings working on a character sheet or such they're welcome too. But I am setting the thread banner to closed for the time being. If everyone stays active that's quite enough players for this kind of story for now.

So, welcome.

Brianna Enright
A.k.a. Bree

Age/Gender/Orientation/Subculture.
Nineteen (19) year old, (closet) homosexual female of Caucasian descent.

Character.
Hard-working, reserved individual who’s main source of motivation is pure, everlasting spite! Life choices made solely to prove her parents wrong. Succeeding to make them suffer! Needless to say, she has a bit of a chip on her shoulder regarding her ‘blood relation’. Though most won’t ever get insight in affairs that personal. But, putting that aside, Bree is decent company. Kind off. Not much of a talker, but happy to listen and nod in agreement for a while if that’ll make you feel better. When she does strike up conversation it usually doesn’t last long. Either by losing interest in the topic herself midway through, or by boring her conversational partner with short answers. Pair this with an overall ‘unsure whether I like you or not’ expression and you’ll start to see why Bree isn’t the most popular around. Some would say she’s more akin to a high school bully than one of the preppy girls.

This assumption comes from the fact that she can be rather intimidating and her sense of humor is questionable in deliverance. Mainly because being fluent in puns and sarcasm isn’t always appreciated and can easily be perceived as mean. Even when that’s not (always) intended. And that’s exactly when her softer side comes out. Prompted to appear at the sight of unintentionally inflicted hurt and cute animals. Bree’s heart is at least as big as her shadow is when looming over a troublesome trainer behaving inappropriately. Hmm. The girl has a giant weakness for everything soft, fuzzy and huggable hidden beneath a thick barrier of teenage frustration. If anything, Bree is the equivalent of a Jawbreaker. Hmm. Pun intended? Maybe. But the comparison comes from her being discouragingly tough at the start and becoming softer the more time you spend with her.

Skills and training.
Bree is skilled in general handiwork, woodworking and wood carving, as well as a decent understanding of carpentry. All thanks to her grandpa and the time he spend with her building a sailboat from scratch. Sadly, the old man passed away before he could see his creation completed. She promised him, and herself, one day she would finish what the old man started and complete the project.

Background.
Misunderstood teenager trying to fight back against her overbearing parents, who try to live out their collective dream of becoming famous by pushing their daughter to become a Pokémon Master. The girl ran away from home and ended up at her grandparents’ doorstep in Steadbourg City. At first they tried to mend the situation by giving her a Pokémon to care for, but to no avail. It wasn’t like she didn’t love the creature. She just didn’t want to be a Pokémon Master.

What she did show interest in was her grandpa’s project, a handmade sailboat. And it didn’t take long for Bree to catch on to the finesse of her grandpa’s craft. They worked together on the ship and slowly the girl opened up about her feelings regarding ‘home’. In time Bree started to understand her parents’ point of view, but that all came crashing down when the old man passed away.

Unable to deal with that loss in a healthy way she projected the anger at her parents once more, and became spiteful and distant towards family. Swearing she would become a trainer, but only to prove she was a better trainer, a better parent (to her Pokémon) and generally a better person than the people who ‘raised’ her. Boiling with frustration she stepped outside and waltzed straight into the first Pokémon-related building she came across; Chivalrise Gym. Partially requesting, and partially demanding, a position as trainer within the gym. Offering to take care of any handiwork as well should she be hired. As a means to sweeten the deal.

Appearance.
Bree is of average height for a young woman her age, but somewhat above the average weight. Her physique is best described as the middle-ground between average and toned, with a rather well-defined core and leg muscles. The young woman has strong contrast in her facial features. Fair skin slightly dotted with freckles on and around the bridge of the nose and icey blue eyes surrounded by the natural curls of her untamed, fiery red hair. For ‘attire’ she prefers to simply wear a comfortable blouse or shirt and navy-colored, denim overalls with one of the shoulder straps hanging down.

Candy Cane
A.k.a. Candy

Pokémon Species/Age/Gender/Orientation/Subculture.
Furret, the Long Body Pokémon. Four (4) years old. Female. Unexplored.

Pokémon Ability, Moveset.
Keen Eye; Assist, Helping Hand, Follow Me, Reversal

Pokémon Character.
Candy is Bree’s princess, her pride and joy, and the occasional thorn in her side. Why a thorn? Well, Candy adores attention and will do anything to get it. Including mischievous deeds that include hiding tools, food or anything that Bree, or anyone else, might need sooner or later. She never intends for the items to go missing though, and will always return her stolen goods after the ‘attention quota’ has been fulfilled.

Pokémon Background.
Frankly, there is little to talk about here. Bree received Candy from her grandpa when the Pokémon was still a Sentret. Raised her with care, love and an overdose of pampering.

Pokémon Appearance.
What we’ve established so far is that Candy is Bree’s princess. What we haven’t established is that Candy is an enormous Pokémon when compared to her species’ average. Easily towering over your average adult human when balancing on her tail, and a thick coat of soft fur makes her seem just that much bigger. This alone already makes Candy a unique breed of Furret, certainly, but even if she were of normal size she would still be considered special. After all, her coat is striped with pink instead of brown, making Candy a Shiny Pokémon. An extraordinary breed, regardless of her size.

Nice. Well written.

Candy seems cool. She has an appropriate moveset for the gym and she's a giant furball. I don't have a problem with her being physically special in two different ways, because a) she's a giant furball and b) she's such a "normal" species that it kind of balances out.

Bree herself is certainly a thought through character. I'm curious how she will develop.

Welcome aboard!

You can start yourself into the story whenever you're ready.

Did a quick edit on my character sheet to more accurately portray my vision for Cooper and the ideas I have for him down the road. One specific part just didn't feel right, so I fixed that.

So, just a question. Not trying to pressure or anything, but @Paddler when do you think we can expect a response? Progress is somewhat halted, apart from the ongoing 'body hiding' >_<

Sooner or later there will be three battles. If you guys are interested we can have three players who are not representing the gym on this particular occasion (which in itself hasn't been decided yet) play the kid challengers, and do some (sort of) PvP. These players will be free to try and win the fight.
