Game Affliction?

Hello everyone. I have been wondering something for a long time. Ok, say, you are about to battle a legendary Pokemon. Therefore, you save the game right before you battle it. So if you lose, you can just turn the game off, and then be right back there to fight it. Say you keep doing this until you accomplish the task of catching the Pokemon. Will this hurt your DS or Game? I have done it before, yet not a lot. I just wanted to know if there were any side effects to this action. Thank you! ^^

Oh, wow. Then I will do that from now on. Ok, this is going to sound really dumb. Yet what exactly is a shiny, and how do you get it. I know that a shiny is an enhanced form of the original Pokemon, yet I have never seen one in the wild, or any where else for that matter.

Shinies are just that- shiny pokemon.
I'm sure you've heard the NPCs talking about the mythical red gyrados right?
The red color means it's a shiny pokemon.
So shinies are just pokemon with different colorations- black charizards, green mewtwos, pink dratinis, all those types. I don't think they affect a pokemon's stats though, just the coloration.
And as for encountering one in the wild, there's only a one in eight-thousand and something chance of that happening, so if you see one, nab it.
Unless you're dumb like me and decided to restart your FireRed version and train your charmander up to level 20 or something before you even had the option to catch other pokemon and therefore had to lay waste to a shiny mankey D; -fumefume-

Well, if you're using something with contrast, I suggest you not to do it a lot. Why?

I speak from experience: My Gameboy SP's contrast broke, and that was because I kept starting over too much while trying to capture Kyogre (and in the end I wasted my Masterball). But maybe I had a cheap game system. Ah well.

There was something about altering the stats or something about Pokemon if they were shiny in GSC, but I'm not sure. But in the Advanced gen and beyond, it's just an alternately colored Pokemon for bragging reasons. Really, that's all anyone wants a shiny for: because they're as precious as nuggets (or even more precious than them) because they're rare.

Oh ok. Hehe, they are just cool, enhanced colored Pokemon. That give you a reason, to battle other trainers on WiFi, so they can see it xD. I understand. Sounds cool though, having a Black Mewtwo or a Pink Dratini.

Also, to Shiny_Evee, do you think anything would happen to my DS? I sure hope not. I haven't done it yet, but I want to. I just don't want to mess anything up.

Constantly turning any electrical system on and off is going to damage it in the longterm. The game'll be fine, but it will have some minor effect on your DS.

However, since we're talking a lifespan of about 4/5 years for the system anyway, it shouldn't be a problem. The battery may be a bit rubbish at holding power come the end of the DS's life but by then it'll be time to buy the new one anyway. You're recommended to save before 1-time only Pokemon 'cos if you mess up, that's it, you can never get them again. But I wouldn't put in much hope of finding them shiny by doing this - the odds are 1 in 8192 and thus you're more likely to go absolutely insane over it long before you'd ever get one. And it's really not worth the effort for just a differently coloured Mewtwo.

Ok, thank you. Yes, I also agree it isn't worth re-starting the game that many times just to get a different colored Pokemon. Yet, I agree, loosing a little battery life, won't effect me very much. Considering some time in the next year or two I am getting a new DS anyways. Then, if it just totally died. I am sure my parents would buy me a new one, as long as I have a 'good' reason for why it doesn't work xD. Also, I know this doesn't belong here, and I am going to sound really stupid. Yet where do you find your friend code for your Pokemon game?

EDIT: I found the Friend Code, thank you Plapti! ^^

all my migrated pokemon r shinies.....well discludin' my salamence but don't worry it won't ruin ur game ^_^' i started my game over turns out if u get 1 pokemon in the pal park that's shiny 4 that specific contest timin' u get all of those 6 pokemon shiny so yeah well the likelyhood of them all bein' shiny is high at least that's the only reason i don't have a shiny salamence........other than the fact that i sent over that pokemon seperately from the rest as a test.

Actually, all Nintendo handhelds are capable of performing a "soft reset," which allows you to restart without touching the power switch. On the DS, just press L, R, Start and Select at the same time. It may take a couple tries if you're uncoordinated like me, but if successful the screen will go white and you'll return to the start screen.
