Eventually, K18 finally reached his target and opened his mouth to chomp on the Dratini yet again, although the Growlithe couldn't help but notice his kin intercept the Magnet Bomb fired by BeepBeep in an effort to protect the dragon type. Meanwhile, Rowan turned his attention to Sandra as she scrambled to get her Magnemite back onto the field, once again finding her antics to be endearing. Once that mishap was out of the way, the Alolan trainer shifted his focus back onto his Growlithe as he plotted his next move.

Although we didn't get double damage on Ellie, Ellie hasn't left the exchange unscathed and Rio also got damaged some. Still, having the fire type against the steel type isn't a favorable matchup and since BeepBeep is a special attacker, there isn't a likely chance that it can truly threaten Rio with its resisted attacks. Therefore, K18 needs to get physical with Rio in order to allow BeepBeep to safely start targeting Ellie. Although it can't hit Ellie for effective damage using its electric type attacks, assuming BeepBeep has them, BeepBeep can take advantage of Ellie's weak defenses and its natural resistance to Dragon Type moves in order to most accurately dispatch her.

Devin watched as as the Thunder Wave hit the Growlithe which failed to paralyze it fully but managed to slow it down, which meant that Ellie could easily slither around Growlithe as Devin prepared a follow up attack. However, before it could the team seemed to focus on the more battle-shy Dratini as a Magnet Bomb was shot towards it which made Ellie's eyes widen momentarily.

As Devin prepared to call a defense, Eleonar had acted quicker and as a result Rio had taken the hit but seemed good to press with a Roar back. Which as Sandra tried to get her Magnemite back out gave them a 2/1 and as the slowed Growlithe reached for a bite Devin was prepared to take advantage.

"Ellie Twister!" Devin called out, and the sky Dratini eyes widened at the closing in fire type responded quickly, as she had quickly began to spin around just before the claws made contact as a gust of wind wrapped around it producing this twister around herself coated in dragon's scales; which not only aimed to serve as a shield but tried to slam into K-18 in order to knock it back and deal damage in succession.

Ben and Auro trudged along Route 1, or at least, Ben did. Despite his initial snark, Auro had already gone ahead and was currently exploring the area. Ben never worried when his partner was out of his sight, since he knew that Auro always kept tabs on him, obviously to trusting him to avoid tripping over his own feet when walking.
Speaking of Auro, the riolu gave a sharp bark from the distance, a sort of distress signal, minus the distress, as Auro is too tough for that, apparently. At the sound, Ben picked up the pace and jogged toward his partner, finding him hiding behind a bush.
"Wha-" he started, before a quickly growl from Auro silenced him. He motioned for Ben to join him, and Ben crouched next to Auro, keeping quiet. He looked over the push to see what Auro was watching.
Quite a sight it was. A rockruff and Yungoos were in a standoff, snarling at each other menacingly. They both looked beat up, but the Rockruff especially so. Ben stared in surprise at the puppy's injuries, before noticing an egg behind the rockruff. The pokemon was stanced in front of it, using his body as a shield, and Ben understood. The pokemon was defending that egg for some reason, and the yungoos was likely trying to eat it. Although, why would-
"Rockruff, the Puppy Pokemon. It’s considered to be a good Pokémon for beginners because of its friendliness-"
Benn looked at his arm in horror as his styler's pokedex activated without his permission, which normally was a good thing since it saved him the trouble, but it was as if it was purposefully being loud as to give away their position. Ben frantically smacked the styler while Auro looked at him with the same, horrified, expression.
Turns out they did notice, as the two pokemon looked over at them in surprise. The yungoos, however, recovered quickly and leapt at the rockruff, using Bite. There was a quick howl, and the rockruff slumped, fainting. The yungoos proudly looked at his prize, bringing his fangs over the egg...
Auro leapt into action, using quick attack to...well, quickly attack the yungoos with lunging kick. The normal type flew off, skittering a few feet before standing, dazed. He looked over at Auro and Ben, and snarled, rearing up and making a mad dash at Auro.
Ben rose from the bush, making his way to the Rockruff. His eyes caught sight of the yungoos.
"Crap. Retaliate with a Blaze Kick!" he called out.
Auro nodded in response, ducking under the yungoos as he leapt, and catching his underbelly, using the momentum to spin around, slam it into the earth, and kick it away as it bounced. Ben reached the rockruff and egg, looking up to see the yungoos get up, turn tail, and run, whimpering as it went. Ben sighed in relief. "Great job buddy!"
Auro turned around, giving one of his rare smiles, however small, before making his way to his trainer. Ben stood up,scratching his head.
"What should we do? Maybe take them to the next pokecenter we find? Or-" the shuffle of grass cut him off. He turned, and was greeted with the sight of the same yungoos, who looked awfully smug, it's naturally large mouth pulled into a huge grin. Then two other yungoos appeared, sharing the same expression, and then two more. Ben and Auro were surrounded by five smug yungoos. Auro raised his paws, although he didn't appear confident. He was strong, but outmanned, and he was sure quantity had going to have the advantage over quality this time. He looked over at his trainer, silently asking what to do.
Ben looked over at the nearing normal types, and shrugged.
"We run." he said simply.
They reacted quickly, Ben crouching a booping the rockruff with a pokeball. The pokemon easily went in and, thanks to his condition, was caught without so much as a twitch in the ball. Stuffing the ball in his bag, ben grabbed hold of the egg and fled. Auro followed suit, kicking away a few yungoos who got too close for comfort.
I'm gonna die I'm gonna die I'm gonna die Ben though positively, before he saw Aquamarine City in the distance.
Okay I might die. He thought in relief. Said relief caused him to slow slightly, and one of the yungoos caught up, snapping at his heels before actually landing a bite.
Ben winced as the pokemon's fangs cut through his thigh as it slipped off. He stumbled but, by some miracle, he didn't fall. The two finally made it to the city, but the yungoos refused to give up their pursuit. Ben saw the pokecenter nearby, and put in a last burst of speed, bursting through the doors, which Auro closed shut. The yungoose crashed into them, Auro barely holding them back. The pack stood up, looked around the surroundings and, realizing the amount of humans around, promptly fled.
The Nurse Joy smiled, oblivious to their tension. "Hello and welcome to the Aquamarine Pokecent-oh!" he was cut off my Ben releasing the rockruff, who slumped on the desk. Ben looked up at her pleadingly.
"Help him, please."
The Nurse straightened, calling out for her chansey, who waddled over and delicately placed the rockruff in a stretcher, before going back into where they came out of, where all the healing happens.
With the rockruff taken care of, Ben slumped over a chair, feeling the exhaustion catch up with him. Auro worridley looked at his leg, but Ben seemed to ignore the injury.
"Thank...arceus....for....adrenaline." he panted.

Due to Devin's quick thinking, K18 was blocked by a Twister surrounding his target just before he could truly sink his fangs into Ellie, frustrating Rowan to a slight degree. Regardless, the Alolan trainer regained his composure and decided to capitalize off this temporary setback.

"So, the other puppy wants to be the hero today. Let's see how well that works out, K18, use Reversal!" As the Fire type came into contact with the dragon type's improvised defenses, he dug his claws into the ground to avoid being knocked back very far. As the Growlithe took some time to catch his breath, he noticed his trainer make a non-verbal signal with his eyes to attack Rio instead of Ellie. Once K18 got the memo, he summoned power from the damage he took from the attacks that he sustained, most notably the Twister, and charged full force at his fellow Puppy Pokemon, unhindered by the paralysis. If all went to plan, Rowan would be able to close the distance and allow BeepBeep the opportunity to fight the Dratini.

As Devin managed to have Ellie stave off the attack, the Dragon Type seemed to sigh in relief as it appeared she no longer had been the worse for ware. Though while Devin anticipated a follow up attack, Rowan seemed to fake them out; as his Growlithe was given an attack and had moved forward but changed targets to Eleanor and Rio which caused the pair's eyes to widen.

Crap!

"Ellie go and use Twister to block!" Devin called out, hoping to get between K18 & Rio as he tried to replicate the defensive strategy that had worked out before. However, while Ellie managed a frantic pace to get herself in front of Rio to protect her partner from harm, she failed to get the Twister off in time due to the catch-up effort just to get in position as the Reversal landed and Ellie had been sent flying with a thud as she took the full brunt of the blow.

"Rio, Bite!"

Eleonor silently expressed her gratitude for Devin's cover and then sprung to action. She decided to take advantage of the battlefield, with K18's isolation between Ellie and Rio since Beepbeep, just re-released from its Pokeball, hadn't had time to rejoin the fight.

Rio pounced, bearing fangs and claws, fully intent on sinking then into her fellow Growlithe.

Sandra didn't expect the Dratini to be able to intercept the attack, yet somehow they managed to. They took a solid hit though, and K18 would be able to deal with the Dragon type on their own. The biggest threat on the field was that other Growlithe, and it was protected by Ellie. To her surprise, Rio left the cover of her partner and went on the attack which made them a perfect target. "Let's shut you down, Thunder Shock!" Beepbeep spun its magnets around before raising them into the sky to send two seperate bolts of electricity in the sky before converging them and firing it at the Puppy Pokémon.

Dolan looked at his slowking ,and looked at his trophy he gained from beating the champion. He placed his trophy next to all the other trophies he acquired throughout his long journey. "Can you believe that, Skol? hmm? Can you believe that? pretty amazing huh?" Dolan said. Dolan looked at his slowking with an excited grin. As Dolan blinked, his slowking reverted back into a slowpoke for a brief moment, but as Dolan blinked again, it was a slowking once more. "It is amazing isn't it?" Skol said. "Yeah it is!" Dolan said. For twenty minutes Dolan and Skol continued talking, but eventually Dolan came to his senses, "Wait a second! You don't talk!" Dolan said. "No, you don't talk!" Skol said. "I don't? Wait... He's got a point... Not wait, he doesn't! I do talk ,and your supposed to be a slowpoke! I don't have a slowking!" Dolan said.

Within an instance Dolan snapped back into reality. He looked around, and realized he was just daydreaming. He had been sitting there so long that he forgotten where he was at. He remembered he was on a pokémon journey, and he sat down to watch a pokémon battle. The match was still going on. Dolan looked down at his slowpoke Skol with an excited grin. Dolan pinched himself to confirm he was awake, "Slooow?" Skol went as he looked at Dolan with confusion. Dolan looked back up to see how the match would end.

Rowan commanded his Pokémon to dodge, which K18 was able to pull off a few moments before Rio got zapped with Thundershock by quickly pivoting away from the Puppy Pokémon and then further distancing himself from the opposing Growlithe so he didn't get shocked by his own teammate.

"K18, Ember!" The Growlithe gave a small nod and shot a small stream of Fire towards the other Puppy as she was about electrocuted if nothing was done. The Alolan trainer's purpose for this command wasn't necessarily to seriously hurt the enemy, as Fire Types resisted Fire attacks. Rather, he was just trying to safely maximize damage on his target.

Ellie took a moment to recover from the Reversal as it seemed that Rio had taken center focus which naturally left an opening for Ellie to strike and Devin was not one to pass such a chance as he looked upon the more vulnerable K18 and decided to act. "Ellie use Dragon Rage!"

Devin knew the move was likely to deal significant damage given their relative shared inexperience as Ellie nodded and fired this blue stream of fire towards Rowan's Growlithe as he aimed to blast K18 and hopefully if it landed perfectly deal critical damage to the opposing team.

"K18, watch out! Beepbeep, intercept it!" Sandra ordered the Magnemite who floated surprisingly fast for a Steel type before getting blasted by the Dragon type move as blue flames covered every inch of the poor Pokémon's body. She covered her mouth in shock, she didn't anticipate that the fire would completely consume Beepbeep. "Beepbeep!" The Johtonian cried out when the steel type somehow was still standing after the brutal attack, though she fell quiet when she took a good look at her Pokémon. The large eye was half-lidded shut, there were burn marks all over the once pristine body and the magnets were barely hanging on. "Are you okay buddy? I'm so sorry that I sent you to intercept that move." She took a step forward, but stopped when she saw that sparks were flying from the magnets and that the half-open eye was full of determination and fighting spirit. The sacrifice of vitality would not go to waste if Beepbeep had a say in it. Their body became surrounded in yellow electricity and multiple yellow sparks came off Beepbeep's battered and bruised body. All the electricity then condensed in front of Beepbeep's eye and formed into an orange-yellow orb of electricity with sparks of yellow electricity coming off it. With an undying will and possibly plain old stubbornness, the Magnemite managed to throw the ball at Rio, hellbent on taking the Puppy Pokémon down.

Sandra blinked. "Did..did you just use Electro Ball? I'm not crazy, right Rowan? That was Electro Ball!" The girl seemed to be ecstatic about the new move, even forgetting about her Pokémon that was barely staying afloat for a moment.

Eleanor adjusted her spectacles; the sunlight reflected off the lenses, giving her gaze an icy gleam. In the span of a breath, Rio had become the enemy's punching bag, taking successive hits from Thundershock, Ember, and Electroball. The cumulative damage had sent the puppy pokemon sprawling and her legs quivering with weakness. Luckily, of the four attacks she's eaten today, two of them had hit at half effectiveness. Luckier still, Sandra seemed to have zoned out of the battle after her. Magnemite seemed to have learned the move Electro ball. Ellen was no expert battler—yet—but even she knew to capitalize and she did so brutally.

"Rio, Close Combat!"

With the final dregs of its energy, the puppy pokemon launched itself at Beepbeep, limbs poised to deliver a vengeful beatdown.

Levi had taken point, Newt behind him waiting for a reply. Before he could hear what came from Levi’s mouth, he felt this strange feeling overcome him...his senses began to mix. His hearing faded to white noise and his vision blurred. His mind went blank as his legs began to walk on his own...almost as if he was a puppet of someone else’s.

The minutes passed, Newt’s frame wandered into an opening of a hillside. A cave. a single glowing eye visible in the darkness. As he approached, the creature in the shadow revealed itself. It was a Spinda with a crossed out eye on one side and deep set swirl on the other. A purple pulse seemed to be emitting from this swirled eye.

Psybeam. The weathered spinda was putting Newt in a trance with it’s psychic power! The normal type smiled as it looked as it’s completed plan...until a rustling was heard inside the hoodie.

“Spaaaaarce...”

The yawning snake like Pokémon awoke, glancing down at the situation. A sweatdrop began to form on Spinda’s head. He didn’t expect Newt to be a trainer, let alone have a Pokémon out already! Dunsparce was quick to figure out what was going on, waving it’s tail in front of Newt’s eyes, the boy remaining unresponsive.

“...Sparce? Dunn....Sparce!”

It barked over to Spinda, which quickly wised up, It readied a fighting stance, odd energies flowing from it’s body and it’s single pulsating eye. Dunsparce in turn prepared itself, leaping off of Newt and in front of him, it’s tail rattling threateningly. He wasn’t going to let this creepy Pokémon get it’s hands on him, that was for certain!

Predictably, Ellen instructed her Growlithe to get one more desperate strike at the Magnemite, and with Sandra too excited to notice. While Rowan smiled at her for learning a new move, that smile disappeared when he heard the words "Close Combat" commanded by his opponent. Without further hesitation, he turned back to the battle to deal with the vengeful Growlithe.

"K18, intercept her with Body Slam!" The Growlithe was hesitant to ennact this command, as it feared the powerful move that his fellow Growlithe was using. Despite his doubt, the Growlithe pounched off from the ground, and positioned himself to slam on top of Rìo as she made her way to BeepBeep.

The Spinda’s eye swirl began to change colors, flashing like a strobe light of rainbow colors until it settled on brown. That’s when the ground started to shake. Boulders and rocks levitated off of the ground and rotated around the normal type. But Spinda’s couldn’t learn rock type moves...so then just what was this?

Dunsparce was surprised by this display, but even more when the flying rocks were thrust towards him. Thinking quicker than usual, the bug snake used it’s tail to drill a hole for itself underground, allowing the boulders to soar over his head.

Spinda looked around for him, determining where the bug might emerge from. That’s when Dunsparce leaped out of a wall, a burst stream of water behind him! It looked like he found an well underground and was going to hose the Spinda down!

Sure enough it hit him, the Spinda being thrown against a wall due to the sudden flow of water. Dunsparce hopped onto the dry section of the cave floor, barking triumphantly. Spinda however, had other plans. The water stopped gushing, freezing in place. That’s when the water in the cave began to form up to swirl around in a large floating ring in front of Spinda’s eye.

Spinda couldn’t know many water type moves either...what was going on here? It’s eye pulsated, releasing an attack similar to that of water pulse, but something seemed off about it. The attack hit dunsparce, sending him in a similar fashion to how Spinda slapped against the wall.

Spinda seemed to be adapting to every environment he threw at them. It was like they were always at the advantage somehow...this wouldn’t be easy. All the while, Newt still stood with a blank expression on his face, still seemingly in a trance.

Everyone seemed to be converging at once, among the group K-18 & his own Ellie seemed the best for ware as Beepbeep and Rio seemed on their last legs. Rowan seemed to try and take Rio out of it after Rio just endured an Electro Ball from Beebbeep who managed to just survive Ellie's Dragon Rage. Reagardless of the admiration of will Devin knew they needed to step in as Rio would be taken out if K-18 had its way.

"Ellie, intercept with Twister!" Devin called out, as the sheepish Dragon Type nodded as she had felt a gradual confidence as the match had gone on; or least a desire to help her partner that helped it before in spite of nerves, as she charged gathering steam as the air mixed with her dragon scales and she attempted to make a shield between Rio and K-18. Devin only hoped they'd get there in time.

Dunsparce wasn’t going to be taken down that fast. It coughed out some water that was splashed on him before hissing. A red and purple aura appeared around it as it called upon Ancient Power, glowing rocks appearing around it.

Spinda matched this, using it’s odd technique to bring up it’s own rocks. And it a flurry, they had a rock fight, each one hitting the next as they parried and counter each other’s moves. It became evident to both sides that their long ranged attacks wouldn’t do much going at this rate. They stopped shooting their rocks and instead sprinted right towards each other. They would settle this in melee combat! Right as they were about to connect fist and fang, a familiar sound was heard.

“Wynaut?”

Wynaut had been released by itself, appearing between the two. It began to glow with it’s counter attack, the two Pokémon panicked as they knew they couldn’t turn away in time.

*POW!*

Both of them were beat back, flopping down on the ground, leaving a rather dazed and confused Wynaut, teetering in place. Seems like taking both attack simultaneously wore the blue thing out, Wynaut face-planting into the ground. Everyone was knocked out in this little exchange...except for Newt, who started to blink back into his right set of mind.

“...Huh? What am I doing here...? Why is...?” Newt stopped himself, looking at his two fainted pokemon and the fainted Spinda. “What the... erm...Levi?”

His words echoed in the cave. There was no response from Levi. He decided to try again.

“Levi...? You there? Levi!”

His own words echoed back to him. It was clear that he was now alone in this cave. Since his partners were out, he thought a safe bet was to wait for them to gain their consciousness back so he could ask them. So he lifted Dunsparce back into his hood whilst he cautiously had himself several steps away from the new Pokémon Spinda.

"Rio, change targets! Let's sweep them all up!"

Seeing an opportunity to end the fight, Ellen immediate adapted her tactics. Instead of Beepbeep, Rio's gaze steadied on the incoming K18 and she leaped in the air, paws flying to intercept the falling Puppy Pokemon. As the Growlithes collided in the air, they would both be swept away by the twister. Knowing Rio could take no more, Eleonor had also withdrawn its pokeball and recalled it. By trading blows with K18, she had brought it that much closer to fainting and ensured it couldn't dodge the subsequent twister. Although this action sacrificed Rio, with Beepbeep already on the verge of fainting, Ellen was sure Devin and Ellie could cinch the fight.

“...”

“Ngh...”

The peculiar Spinda began to stir, rubbing it’s head. The normal type looked around, it’s blurred vision focusing on the trainer it abducted, sitting cross legged in a corner. Newt stared at the creature, rubbing Dunsparce’s back in the meantime.

“So...what was the big idea, huh? Kidnap me and then what? Eat me or something?”

The Spinda sighed, looking away from the hoodie wearing trainer. It didn’t seem interested in explaining it’s position to Newt, leaving the trainer to cross his arms.

“Whatever it was, you can forget about it. You can just-“

That’s when Dunsparce’s tail began to waggle, the snake bug waking up. It’s slits it’s eyes peeked out of focused on the Spinda. It barked over to it, panting, before leaping off towards it.

“What- Dunsparce, get back here. You know what it did.”

It didn’t seem to care all that much, hopping up and down in front of it. The one eyed Pokémon looked a bit confrontational toward it, albeit curious what Dunsparce was getting at.

“What are you doing...?”

Dunsparce turned around, barking at him before gesturing towards the Spinda with his head. That made both Newt and Spinda recoil back disturbed.

“What?! No, out of the question. That’s not going to happen.”

“Rrrrrg...” It muttered.

Dunsparce barked again, more insistently this time. Newt shook his head, standing up.

“Look, this thing tried to do who knows what to me. Im not about to bring that with me. Let’s go.”

Dunsparce seemed disappointed, it’s tail getting lower and it’s expression getting a bit more glum. Spinda mirrored Newt’s movements, making the first stride to exit the cave on it’s own fruition. New shook his head, picking up Dunsparce.

“C’mon. Let’s go back to Aquamarine and get some rest.”

Placing Dunsparce in his hoodie, he began to make his way back to the nearest Pokémon center. However, a single eye watched him as he left. Spinda was in the shadows, feigning having left. It spied on them, sneaking back into the wood line all the while.

“Hmph.”

Rowan winced at Ellen's sudden change in tactics as she commanded Rio to attack K18, allowing both of them to get swept up by Ellie's Twister maneuver. Due to an inability to prepare for such a sudden switch in tactics, the Alolan trainer was helpless to watch as his Growlithe was flung to the side in the exchange. As he went to check up on his Pokémon, he noticed that he was completely knocked out from the harsh collision, forcing Rowan to recall his Pokémon and wait for the battle to decrescendo. Not wanting to make a scene due to frustration, Rowan opted to clench his fists tightly as an outlet for his rage,

As much as I hate getting knocked out like that, Ellen outplayed me. She's a clever battler and she deserved her victory over me.

'Maybe I should've thrown...?'

Eleonor gandered. Rowan's immense frustration, in the form of tightly clenched fits, was the source of her idle, defeatist thoughts. The boy, understandable, seemed to take his 'loss' rather heavily; not an unexpected reaction for one as young as he, especially if, as Eleonor had earlier guessed, Sandra was the object of his budding puppy love.

It was unfortunate that the boy had to lose face in front of his crush and—to some extent—Eleonor sympathized with his aggravation. Since they both spectators now, Ellen skirted her way around the battlefield, hailing Rowan with a few waves.

"C'est la vie, mon jeune ami," she comforted.

"No need to look so sad, you battled well! Plus important, if you look so disappointed, how will K18 feel? Non non non, what you need to do now is make sure your partner is okay. K18 did work hard in that battle."

Of course, the same went for her own partner, to whom she planned to give similar treatment. Leading the recuperation, she released Rio and Nynyve and then directed the latter.

"«Aqua Ring»!"

Seemed that Devin had managed to take out Rowan from the battle and it seemed like it was down to him and Sandra left, and Ellie seemed in prime position to deal a final blow to BeepBoop if the Electric Type had still been standing. The Dratini panted a bit as this fight had been a bit taxing on fatigue along with her earlier blows but she had this desire to want to do well for both former and current partners.

"Alright Dratini, prepare a Slam..." Devin called out, nerves of possibly being a move away from winning his first battle being moved aside as he waited to see how BeepBoop held off; it the magnet Pokemon still stood from this chaotic crossover, Devin called for Ellie to slam her tail into it to try and deal the final blow to win the battle for the team.

Sandra gulped, this was not a good situation to be in. Beepbeep was about to keel over, Ellie was far from fainting, the Dratini resisted any Electric type attacks Beepbeep could use and it was headed straight towards her Magnemite. Accepting the fact that she was going to lose, the Johtonian forced herself to grin. Not for herself, but for her Pokémon who did its absolute best for her. "Alright Beepbeep, let's go down like we lived! Fighting in the hope of succeeding! Magnet Bomb!" As Sandra called out the command, Beepbeep fired off multiple metallic orbs towards the Dragon type. A valiant effort, but it was not enough to save the match. The Magnemite got slammed hard by the Dratini, causing its magnets and screws to fall off.

"You did well Beepbeep, I'm proud of you. Go get some rest." Sandra recalled the Electric and Steel type, a resigned smile on her face. She really wanted to win the battle, but Beepbeep struggled against every single Pokémon on the field. It was impressive that they lasted as long as they did. "Congratulations you two, that went down to the wire!"

As Rowan took a glance at his defeated Pokémon, his frustration with himself began to fester even further. However, before it could reach a boiling point, one of his opponents had come over to comfort him. While the Kalosian colloquialisms were lost to the language barrier, the Alolan trainer was encouraged by Ellen's words. To compliment the encouragement, Rowan witnessed how Sandra chose to end the battle with dignity and class, a small smile creeping its way onto his face as he saw the final moments of the battle.

If Sandra can show proper sportsmanship, then I ought to as well. Besides, this was just a practice battle anyway, nothing of importance was lost here.

Returning the fainted Growlithe to his Pokéball, Rowan turned to Ellen with a small grin on his face.

"You're right, I can't let myself discourage my Pokémon, thanks for the encouragement," The Alolan trainer smiled at Ellen as he brought out K18 to give it a revive and potions. As he was healing the Fire type, he also took a glance at Sandra congratulating Devin's victory, causing his smile to grow slightly.

Nimbus clouds were in the sky. One was shaped like a smeargle, another was shaped like a nanab berry, and another was shaped like an aerodactyl holding a 10 year old boy in its talons. Dolan had been spaced out, staring at the clouds, and oblivious to the fight that had just ended. He almost forgot he was on an adventure, and had considered heading home. He remembered his adventure and stood up, "Oh shoot! We're supposed to be doing stuff Skol!" Dolan said. Skol was just as oblivious as Dolan was. Maybe a little more so.

Dolan patted Skol on his head to which Skol turned to look at him, "Slooow?" Skol yawned as he looked at his trainer. "Time to get going" Dolan said cheerfully. "Poke poke" Skol cheered with a surprisingly determined expression. Dolan turned and noticed the battle was over. "Snap! That was a nice battle guys! Even got a few good pictures" Dolan said swiping through the images. Some of the pictures were less than flattering angles, but a few turned out really well.

We...we won...

It was much to process for Devin, as the smoke clear and BeepBoop fainted Devin and Ellie stood with dumbfounded looks as they were not sure if it was real or not. Eventually, the realization hit them both as once as Devin seemed to jump up on reflex and made quite the regrettable cheer with a bit of a high pitch to it as his Dratini looked on with wide eyes shocked at what she had helped to accomplish.

"Woo! W-wow wow...this is a new feeling. Eleanor you and Rio were fantastic I am entirely grateful and E-ellie wow you were so impressive!" Devin said, a bit awkward about this given he had earlier faced humiliating defeat in his first gym now he had a taste of victory. Most importantly, he had been able to make a contribution and not mess it up for them, as he had doubted his own abilitiy as a trainer after his handling of his former Growlithe. So while this was just a spar, it had meant a lot to Devin as he hugged his sheepish partner as Ellie who slowly cuddled against her partner.

Terra barked out as the Rockruff was happy to see Devin's team win, though as Rowan seemed upset over his loss she moved over to brush against his leg as if she offered support. As Sandra congregated them and showed admirable sportsmanship Devin broke the hug and decided to respond to his opponents in kind.

"Yeah, you almost had us there. That was a good match, I think we all have a little something to be proud of..." Devin said with a smile to Sandra, before he moved over to consult Rowan as her offered a sheepish rub if the back of the head as he looked him in the eye.

"Take it from a guy who flamed out his first gym opportunity, losing sucks. But believe me when I say it can lead to you getting better, you have nothing to be ashamed of and it was a pleasure to battle you. I-I hope we can do it again in the future..." Devin said as he tried to lift his spirits best he could.

Newt had made his way back to Aquamarine city, which was a bittersweet feeling for him. He did like being out of the rain and the mud that was the path to the next town, but on the downside...crowds.

As he made it closer and closer to the Pokémon center, he found himself cringing more and more as he could practically feel the other people around him stealing the air from his lungs. Finally, he went open the automatic doors of the building. The suffocating smell of recycled air pumping through the A/C units were off putting for the white clad trainer.

He walked up to the nurse who was manning the counter, careful not to make any eye contact at all. The polite nurse shook off his odd mannerisms and gave him a warm smile.

“Welcome to here pokemon center! Are there any Pokémon of yours that need medical attention?”

“Mehhh...”

“Uhm, excuse me sir?”

Newt his his face into the inner reaches of his hoodie, hitting out Dunsparce like he were some kind of diseased cat. She blinked at the snake bug, not used to this odd behavior. Nevertheless, she went with it, carefully picking him up as well as another poke all that Dunsparce had been clinging onto.

“Don’t worry, we’ll have them healed up in no time! Tough battle, huh?”

“Mehhhhhhh.”

Newt put the hood over himself to hide his face, stuffing his hands deep into his pockets. She turned her eyes away from him, as he gave off some weird vibes that she did not feel like she would dive into right now.

With a crisp clap, Eleanor congratulated everyone.

"That was good fun; but, we should head back inside. I think we all need a check-up from Nurse Joy. Aftercare is just as important as the battle."

Feeling a bit naggish, Eleonor left it at that and then turned to Dolan.

"Don't you think it's a bit late to be headed out? Why don't you stay the night at the Pokecenter and head out tomorrow?"

The sun had already half-sunk beneath the horizon, dyeing the sky and water-ways in mellow orange hues. Within the hour, the sky would probably be pitch black, illuminated only by the dim glow of star and moon-light. For courtesy's sake, Eleanor felt that it would only be right to advise their mysterious spectator against departing.

"The pokécenter? Nah. I think I'll be fine, I'm not even ti-" Dolan paused as he let out a yawn. "You may have a point. Guess its getting late?" Dolan said. Dolan also saw this as a great opportunity to have his fishing rod sent to pokécenter, which was perfect because if Dolan had his fishing rod, then his brother couldn't touch it. A plan that was so perfect, Dolan wished he thought of it sooner. "What did we even accomplish today Skol?" Dolan asked. Skol simply looked at Dolan with a cheerful smile and followed along. "Your tired too huh?" Dolan commented.

"Yeah, some rest and recovery could do us all well..." Devin agreed, as he returned Ellie and coagulated her efforts before he'd make his way inside the center. Much as he wanted to get a jump on the Gym Battle, to redeem his previous failings, it was a bit late and a second battle in one day risked overkill.

As he entered inside he moved in line behind this hooded figure who seemed to be waiting for a Pokemon he owned to be healed and had a rather disgruntled expression on his face. Terra course wagged her tail happily next to Devin as he simply kept to himself as his mind raced to the Gym Battle he expected for tomorrow; this time, Devin felt he would be ready, and if today had been any indication he felt he had more experience and more confidence to do right by his team this time around.

Now that his spirits were sufficiently lifted thanks to his friends' encouragement, Rowan was ready to take a load off in the local Pokémon Center. Once in the building, the Alolan trainer opted to travel to the PokéMart section of the center to restock on healing items and repels. As he was waiting in line, he decided to take the time to familiarize himself with Aco and Sulum's abilities and moves, in that order.

Eevee, The Evolution Pokémon
Possessing an unbalanced and unstable genetic makeup, it's genes are easily influenced by it's surroundings and it conceals many possible evolutions. Current studies show that it can evolve into eight different species of Pokémon. Despite these studies, the question of why only Eevee has such unstable genes when compared to other Pokémon has still not been solved.

Ability: Adaptability
Adaptability is an ability that further enhances moves that share a type with the Pokémon that uses them. In normal cases, Pokémon using a move that shares a type with it gets a multiplier of 1.5 in power when compared to using a move of a type it doesn't have. This phenomenon is known as the Same Type Attack Bonus(dubbed S.T.A.B. by many scientists). However, Pokémon that possess Adaptability get a multiplier of 2 in power when using moves affected by the S.T.A.B phenomenon.
Moves:
1. Swift
2. Quick Attack
3. Growl
4. Sand Attack
5. Tail Whip
6. Helping Hand
Voltorb, The Ball Pokémon
Voltorb were first sighted at a Pokéball manufacturing company, leading to much speculation regarding the possible relationship between Voltorb and Pokéball due to similarities in origin and appearance. A popular theory about Voltorb's origin is that the first Voltorb was created when a Pokéball was exposed to a powerful pulse of energy, giving it life and sentience as a result. Voltorb are very sensitive and will explode at the slightest shock. Nowadays, they are often found in Power Plants, and because many trainers have mistaken them for Pokéballs only to be met with an Explosion, owners of Power Plants are now obligated to post a sign reading "Beware of Voltorb in the area".

Ability: Static
Static is an ability that induces paralysis when the Pokémon possessing this ability is attack by a contact move. The attacker has a 30% chance of becoming paralyzed, which reduces their speed by 50% and makes them susceptible to a 25% risk of being rendered completely immobile every time they attempt to attack or dodge.
Moves
1. Spark
2. Tackle
3. Charge Beam
4. Swift
5. Sonic Boom
6. Self-Destruct
7. Rollout
Once Rowan was updated on his Pokémon's attributes, he put away his Pokédex and realized that the line in front of him was gone. Once the Alolan trainer made his purchases, he took out Manti and Sulum to spray a few Potions on them while he pondered the information that he discovered in the Pokédex.

I guess Sulum must've learned Charge Beam as a result of the battle against Jacky. As for Aco, that adaptability ability sounds like it's going to be very useful down the line...

Sandra laughed as she patted Devin on his back. "Beepbeep got to release some stress and you got to bond with Ellie, I'd say there are no losers in this match. Let's get some rest now, today's been a big day and tomorrow won't be any easier." As she entered the Pokécenter and joined the line to heal Beepbeep, the Johtonian snapped her fingers. "Right, I completely forgot to do something. I'll be back soon!" Waving goodbye to her friends, Sandra ran outside and made a beeline to Route 1. "Sorry, I swear I didn't forget about you." The girl said as she let out the Kangaskhan that she found today. The Normal type looked around nervously, probably on the lookout for predators. "I promised you that I would heal you and release you back into the wild, no? I'm here to realize my promise, you can be free again now."

To Sandra's surprise, the Kangaskhan didn't run away as soon as she could. Instead, it looked Sandra in the eyes for a prolonged period of time. The girl had helped it against the Growlithe pack and kept her promise, but was it really better to be in the wild? What if a trainer with less noble ideals caught her? What would happen to her baby? The thought terrified her and the Normal type shook her head. It appeared that the Parent Pokémon wanted to stick around Sandra instead of fending for herself. Not one to force her will, Sandra simply smiled. "If you want to stay with me, just say it. I won't force you to live here." After hearing an assuring roar, the girl recalled the young parent and made her way back to the Pokécenter. "Guess we're gonna be together till the end huh?"

"I'm back!" With a big grin, the Johtonian entered the Pokécenter and went back in the line. After all, Beepbeep was still fainted.

Turning his head to the direction of the announcement, Rowan saw his former doubles partner make a proud return to the Pokémon Center. Like many of the things she did, the Alolan trainer couldn't help but chuckle softly and smile at Sandra's overwhelming energy at even the most mundane occurrences. Seeing that his Pokémon were right as rain, Rowan figured that there was nothing better to do than to strike up conversation with his Johtonian companion.

"Welcome back, glad you could join us" Rowan's smile remained on his face as he walked over to Sandra, "Where'd you go?" Although he didn't think much of it, Sandra's delayed arrival to the Pokémon Center was something he was mildly interested in, considering that her Pokémon had fainted and he didn't know if she carried healing items on her.

"Remember that Kangaskhan I caught that got attacked by the Growlithe pack? I promised that I'd heal it and then release it, but I forgot about it until just now. I went back to Route 1 to release her to her old habitat, but she decided to stay with me for some reason. I'm not complaining though, I get to see that adorable baby grow up." Chuckling to herself, Sandra put a hand on her hip. "Wanna see if there's something to do in this place tomorrow? Devin will probably go to the Gym again, but I like this place too much to leave as soon as he gets that badge. With all these canals around, maybe there's like a boat race or something?" Inviting Rowan to come along with her to explore the city, the Johtonian awaited his answer. She wasn't going to force him to join her, she just thought that it would be more fun to have a friend alongside her.

Rowan raised his eyebrow at hearing her story with the Kangaskahn, chuckling lightly at the mother's spontaneous decision. Once he finished, he pondered the offer that Sandra presented. On one hand, it couldn't hurt taking the time to explore the city with his friend, and it'd be nice to stick around for a bit as opposed to just leaving as soon as they took care of business. On the other hand, there was the fact that they could be exploring the city at the same time that Devin would be participating in his gym battle, leaving him without the support of his friends.

"When are we trying to take this tour of the city?" Rowan led off with a vague question as a segue to addressing his main concern, "Specifically, will we be able to cheer on Devin for his gym battle?" Given that the aspiring trainer had the support of his friends during his gym battle, he wanted to extend the same curtsey to Devin, a desire exacerbated by the fact that Rowan was aware of Devin's more timid disposition.

"We can do it right after Devin's gym battle tomorrow, or before it so that he can unwind a bit before the big match. I don't want to miss his match after all, he's my friend too." Sandra stated as if it was clear as day, she wouldn't want to miss the gym battle between the gym leader and Devin for anything in the world. "Plus, I really want to see Ellie in action again. She beat Beepbeep and from what I've seen of them personality wise, they will not be happy if Ellie loses this badge match." Chuckling to herself, she looked around the room for her friend. "Hey Devin, wanna come along tomorrow for some exploration? I think you might benefit from some relaxation before the big match."

“Um here you are sir, fully healed.”

The nurse politely, albeit cautiously pushed the carrier of the pokeball over to Newt, Chansey picking up the plump snake bug and handing him to the trainer. Newt picked Dunsparce up, putting him around his neck whilst he put the pokeball deep in his pocket, all the while without saying a word.”

“We hope we see you again!”

“Meeeeehhhhhh...”

Newt practically felt physical pain being in the chokingly clean air of the pokecenter. He was quickly to powerwalk out of it, wanting nothing more than to avoid the oxygen parasites called ‘people’. Getting out of the automatic doors and into the hustle and bustle of the town, he found it not quite as comforting either.

“I think I’d rather have that weird hypnotizing bear...” he muttered under his breath.

He needed to get away from the crowds, but somehow go somewhere without a bunch of wild Pokémon. He looked to the natural water running down the city in a cross formation. Maybe that would work.

He made his way to the southern water stream, taking a deep breath. He put on his headphones, allowing his nerves be soothed by the positive vibrations.

Devin naturally was taken aback by the strange boy before him, who seemed to leave just as quickly as he had arrived all without so much as a word spoken to anyone and the look of perpetual annoyance that raised all sorts of questions.

"Hello sir, is there anything I can help you with?"

Course Devin had been taken out of that mindset when the nurse spoke to him. Right, it was his turn as he and Terra advanced to the front of the line and he presented the nurse with Ellie's Pokeball before he'd explain his situation to her.

"Well my Dratini Ellie just had a big battle and could use a little aided recovery. Y-you can help with that right?" Devin asked, naturally a bit sheepish around newer people and also a bit new to this whole trainer thing though he seemed to forget the first time he had been here confirmed his question already. A bit flustered which he realized and internally cursed, though Nurse Joy simply smiled as the Chansey took the Pokeball to the machine behind her before she answered.

"Of course, we'll take good care of her and be with you momentarily." Nurse Joy assured, as a oddly soothing little jingle in the back was heard and indeed before Devin knew it the Chansey picked up the Pokeball and Nurse Joy soon presented back to him.

"There you go, she's all taken care of. Have a good & safe day." Nurse Joy smiled, as he had given a quiet thanks before he picked it up and put it back on by belt and walked towards Sandra and Rowan. Much as he had been nervous about tomorrow, he first needed to figure out what sleeping arrangements there were being discussed with hi new friends.

"S-so, there a place we can rent a room or had another idea?" Devin asked the pair as Terra wagged her tongue happily at the pair.

“Should I...keep going with the gym thing, Dunsparce?”

Dunsparce stirred around his neck, looking up at him as he fiddled with the badge he had received. He didn’t know if he had the willpower to keep going, especially since he had gotten separated from Levi. One thing he did know was that he definitely wasn’t going home, anywhere was better than there.

He stared at his reflection in the water and the reflection stared back at him in kind. after a few seconds, the image began to distort. What?

FWOOOOSH!

Out of the water, a giant Sharpedo leaped into the air, letting out a roar. Newt’s eyes went as big around as plates as the shark Pokémon used water Jet, rushing ahead with open jaws. It took only a second before- *Snap!* the shark Pokémon gobbled him whole!

...why?

The shark returned to the the canal, swimming deep with the water, proud of it’s delicious and audacious meal. Inside of it’s mouth, Newt clung to the walls of it, Dunsparce had it’s tail propped up to the wall of the mouth, preventing it from swallowing them whole. It’s a lucky thing that Sharpedo never chew their food.

“...Okay, maybe home isn’t that bad.”

Water began to leak in from the teeth and gums of the sharp, sloshing up at his feet. Oh...Oh. That’s not good. He looked around at what he had in a panic. He had himself, his hoodie, his headphones, Dunsparce, and wynaut. Judging how Dunsparce was busy...maybe there was a secret move in Wynaut’s arsenal it could use.

Seeing as he had his hands full, that presented another problem. He couldn’t bring out a pokeball. Trying to find a way around this, he got an idea.

“uh erm...I don’t...like this?”

“Wynaut?”

Looking to his side, Wynaut had appeared on its own fruition. Sighing in relief, he gestured with his eyes over to the teeth of the creature.

“Wynaut, Ngh! Do something!”

“Wynaut Wynaut!”

It began to glow orange, very similar like it did in the fight with the gym leader. That attack was super strong! This was perfect!

.
..
“...”

Nothing.

“How come that did do anything??”

“Why?”

“I don’t know! Don’t ask me!”

The shark rumbled again, water coming in a faster rate from it’s teeth it was now pooled up to his ankles, chest height for Wynaut.

“Come on Wynaut, you must have something else!”

Wynaut thought, perplexed as to what to do. As the water gushed in, it had an idea. It hopped up and down, a spotlight showing on it. Was he...giving Sharpedo an encore?

Suddenly, the Sharpedo rumbled immensely, picking up great speed.

FWOOOOSH!

Newt recognized that sound. It jumped again! It’s the same thing it did when it gobbled him up! And if memory serves...

Sharpedo’s mouth flew right open, revealing a wingull that it tried to devour. There! Newt grabbed Dunsparce and Wynaut, leaping out of Sharpedo’s gaping jaws! He passed by the wingull, falling from the gravity right as Sharpedo missed the wingull.

Newt landed on soft sand as Sharpedo dove into the water again. Catching his breath, he began to laugh, mainly a desperate, elated laugh.

“We...we are alive!”

He looked up, a smile on his face...that quickly vanished into a deep stare.

Lake. Massive lake.

They were on a small sandbar. Far away from any land.

“Oh come on!!!!” He yelled to the heavens.

Newt kicked the sand, running his anxious hands through his hair. He then paused, turning slowly to Wynaut, giving and puzzled brow.

“You...wouldn’t happen to know a swimming move here, would you?”

“Wy!”

Wynaut gave him a large smile, one that gave him a hopeful one. Then, Wynaut fell on it’s side, with the same smile plastered on it’s face. Newt’s disappearing smile twitched, his eyes getting smaller as his situation set in.

“Ahhhhhhhh!!!!!!”

After taking Eleanor's advice to head to the pokéenter, Dolan sent out his second pokémon, a wimpod named Gosil. Gosil scuttled underneath a chair, and hid within the shadow underneath the chair. Its two eyes peeked out of the shadow. Gosil looked around at the people with somewhat content. "Guess you just make yourself at home?" Dolan said as he looked at his little wimpod. He got on his cell phone to text his dad.

~Text messages to dad...~

Please dad. Please.
Okay fine. I don't wanna see any more of these kinda texts today.
~End of text messages...~

Dolan let out a sigh of relief. Now the only thing left to do now was wait for his fishing rod. He trusted his father. His father might have acted more reasonable than Dolan, but deep down he understood. Dolan went to sit down with his wimpod. He reached down to give Gosil a poffin, "Ouch!" Dolan went. Gosil angrily bit Dolan's hand then dragged the poffin under the chair as Dolan dropped the poffin on the floor. Gosil was too prideful to admit that he liked poffins, so he acted like he wasn't interested in it, only taking occasional bites when he assumed nobody was looking.

Skol happily accepted one without causing any problem. Gosil let out a small burp then scoffed as he laid there under the chair. Skol let out a yawn, which caused both Dolan and Gosil to also let out a yawn. Gosil let out a roar to hide the fact that it made a cute little yawn. Dolan looked around the room, there we're already plenty of people there already. They seemed nice, but Dolan wasn't sure what to say so he sat there quietly, and began thinking about his adventure. He pulled out his laptop to upload some pictures onto his webpage. "These are some good ones Skol. I like this one right here!" Dolan said pointing at the picture, "Slooow?" Skol went as it looked at the laptop.
