Hearty Tales, a Kalos Adventure!

(OOC: New here, and this RP looks really good. Read all the rules, but let me know if I break any, or any unwritten rules. Thanks!)

Jacob sighed. The trip from Unova to Kalos was long, especially because he didn’t have the cash for a plane. Three days on a boat, and then several hours by truck would be too much for anyone, Jacob thought, as he trudged through Santalune. It was already getting dark, but Jacob didn’t mind. He couldn’t think of anything but finding the pokemon center, and getting some sleep. Oh, and he needed to complete his registration, Jacob reminded himself.

As he walked, his pokemon felt heavier and heavier on his back. Oshawott was a small pokemon sure, but just now it felt like he was a Snorlax. Jacob reached over his shoulder, tapping his pokemon.

“Oshawott, do you think you could walk for a while?” After a few second pause, Jacob tried again. “Oshawott, you wanna get down?” Jacob looked over his shoulder to see Oshawott, his eyes closed, sleeping soundly. “OSHAWOTT! MOVE IT!” The pokemon woke with a start, jumping into the air, only to immediately fall to the ground. Oshawott quickly stood back up, and looked at his trainer angrily.

“Osha, Oshawott!” Oshawott placed both his hands on his hips. And opened his mouth to speak, but Jacob wouldn’t let him.

“Look, next time, don’t fall asleep!” Oshawott looked angrily at his trainer before turning around. And slowly walking away. Jacob followed his pokemon; Oshawott just happened to be going in the right direction, anyhow.

It was only a few blocks to the pokemon center, which, to Jacob’s delight, remained open late. Jacob entered the building, and began the work needed to get his registration completed for the Kalos League. It was monotonous; Jacob was sure he had filled out these forms before. But he did what he had to, and then handed his papers in at the front desk.

“Name?” The Nurse Joy at the front desk asked. Jacob was tired, and had just finished filling out what felt like 20 pages of forms. His name was on the first one, he could see it; all she had to do was look down and read his name. He shot her an angry look before responding.

“Jacob…. Tully.” With that, Jacob realized he had no idea where Oshawott was. He didn’t panic; he looked over at the nearest chair, and here his pokemon was fast asleep. “So predictable,” Jacob thought to himself.

“Age?” Nurse Joy asked. Again, the information was right there, on his forms. Jacob shot her another look. “Nineteen.” This was going to be a long night, Jacob thought.

Jacob woke up the next morning when the sun was already high in the sky. He looked over at his pokemon, who was still sound asleep. Oshawott had always slept a lot. Since Jacob had gotten the pokemon on his tenth birthday, Oshawott always out-slept him. Years ago, Jacob gave up on letting his pokemon have his sleep; he and Oshawott needed to move now anyway, since they had gotten such a late start.

“Oshawott,” Jacob whispered, poking his pokemon. “GET UP!” Jacob shouted, waking his pokemon with a start, hitting his head on a nearby table. Rubbing his head, Oshawott angrily turned to Jacob.

“Osha, Osha!” The pokemon angrily muttered. “Oshawott!”

“Well if you just woke up like a normal Pokemon…” Jacob responded, shooting his pokemon a look. Oshawott shook off injury, and the two of them left the pokemon center. Jacob thought about challenging the gym leader, but, looking at Oshawott, he wasn’t confident they could win. He needed to catch some more pokemon. Pulling out the folded up map in his pocket, he looked for nearby areas he could catch some pokemon. “There, the Santalune Forest. What do you think Oshawott?” His pokemon didn’t respond. “Fine then, let’s go.” Oshawott nodded before leaping onto Jacob’s shoulder. “Osha.”

The forest was a little walk from the city; they had to traverse route 3 first. Jacob had underestimated how long it would take to get to the forest, and after about an hour of walking, Jacob and Oshawott sat down to rest. He threw his pokemon a granola bar, and then took one out for himself.

“This place sure is weird, eh Oshawott?” The pokemon was too busy eating to answer, but Jacob continued. “Not at all like Unova…”

Just ten, Jacob heard something from behind him. Oshawott heard it too, and they both swung around to look. There, on a branch behind them was a Pidgey, seemingly unaware of their presence. Jacob shot Oshawott a look, and his pokemon reluctantly dropped his granola bar, and grabbed the shell from his chest.

“Oshawott, use razor shell!” A blue blade of energy jutted out from Oshawott’s shell as the pokemon leapt forwards towards the wild Pidgey. Pidgey turned towards Jacob and Oshawott, and, realizing it was under attack, flapped its wings relentlessly, sending a gust of wind towards Oshawott. The wind sent Oshawott falling backwards, slamming him against a nearby try. Oshawott dropped his shell, as he hit the ground with a thud. The Pidgey then immediately flew away, unharmed, with Jacob and Oshawott left behing. “You okay Oshawott?” Oshawott wouldn’t respond. Jacob looked him over, and he looked fine, but there was no doubt his confidence took a hit.

“No worries, Oshawott. We’ll get the next one.”

Malachi smiled as he stood out in the nicely designed Battle Chateau Arena. He had just been challenged by one of the new Baroness's, for her to rank up to Viscountess, as he was a Viscount.

His pure white cape flowed as the wind started to kick up in the area.

"Alright, Gardevoir, it's been a while since we've battled here, but let's show them what we got!" The blonde haired trainer called, throwing a pokeball into the field.

Gardevoir appeared in the flash of light, gracefully landing infront of her trainer. The opposing Baroness threw out her Hitmonlee. After Malachi politely offered for her to go first, she called out for Hitmonlee to use Double Kick.

Malachi smiled as Gardevoir disappeared form view when the fighting type pokemon quickly approached her and lunged out a leg. Gardevoir appeared beside Hitmonlee, who threw out a second kick, but Gardevoir avoiding that one too.

"Gardevoir, Dazzling Gleam!" Malachi called out, as his Gardevoir appeared behind the Hitmonlee.

The arena flashed a bright white light, as Gardevoirs silhouette became outlined in black, and pink energy blasts shot out, blasting Hitmonlee back on impact. In mid air, Hitmonlee shot out a dark pursuit orb at Gardevoir.

Malachi snapped his fingers. "And this is it. Gardevoir, Moon Blast!"

Gardevoir began slightly singing peacefully, a large pink aura surrounding her, part of the sky turned to a faint aurora, a moon being seen. Energy came down from the moon, gathering in between Gardevoir's palms. She thrusted her arms forward, a large pink orb blasting forward, through the Pursit, and hit Hitmonlee head on. Hitmonlee went skidding to the ground, unconscious from the super effective attack.

“Wott…Osha-Wott,” the pokemon said as he and Jacob walked about the forest. The pokemon seemed to have entirely forgot about his failure against the Pidgey, and was happily up and about, grabbing berries, looking under rocks, and generally exploring. Jacob didn’t nearly have the energy Oshawott had, and he trotted behind the pokemon, trying to keep up.

“Calm down, Oshawott,” Jacob shouted to his pokemon. “We’ve got plenty of time here; no need to rush.” Oshawott looked back at his trainer, before continuing forward. Jacob ran after his pokemon.

Suddenly,Jacob heard something to his left, he turned to see a Scatterbug, walking along a tree branch. He leapt forward, and grabbed Oshawott, covering his mouth. He motioned towards the Scatterbug, and Oshawott nodded. Jacob stood, and Oshawott began slowly walking towards the bug pokemon. He stepped on a branch, however, and the Scatterbug saw Oshawott, and fled, jumping into the nearby brush and out of sight. Oshawott sighed, and turned back around. Jacob sighed as well, but said nothing to his pokemon.

Jacob turned around to see something yellow sticking out from a nearby bush. Jacob tilted his head, trying to figure out what it was. Oshawott saw his trainer starring at the bush, and looked to see what he was looking at. The yellow thing moved slightly, before the entire creature emerged from the bushes. It was a Helioptile, walking away from Jacob and Oshawott with a big berry in its arms. As it saw Jacob, it dropped the berry.

“Oshawott, let’s get it; use water gun!” Oshawott leapt into the air firing a beam of water down towards Helioptile. Helioptile stood there, frozen in fear, as the beam of water slammed into him, kicking up dirt. When it cleared, Jacob could see Helioptile trying to stand. “Oshawott, now use razor shell!” Oshawott rushed up to Helioptile, swinging his shell. Helioptile dodged his attacks, on after the other but never counterattacking. After about three tries, Oshawott landed his attack, and Helioptile collapsed onto the ground, fainted. Jacob picked up a pokeball from his belt, and threw it towards Helioptile. In a flash of red, the pokemon disappeared, and all that was left was a pokeball. “Great job Oshawott!”

“Osha! Osha! Osha!” the pokemon shouted back, doing a little dance. The pokemon placed his shell back on his chest, and jumped onto Jacob’s shoulder. Jacob became lopsided with the new weight, almost falling to the side before re-catching his balance. With that, they turned around and began to head out of the forest.

_________________________________________________________________________________________
Jacob and Oshawott had just reached the end of the forest when they sat down for a rest. The sun was nearly down, and Jacob figured it was about time to set up a campfire. As Oshawott collected sticks, Jacob set up the small tent he carried in his bag. It wasn’t large enough for him to stretch out all the way, but if he laid on a diagonal, he could extend his legs far enough to be comfortable. That left plenty of room for Oshawott.

With the tent up, and the campfire going, Jacob figured it would be good to let Helioptile out for a little while. He dropped his pokeball on the ground, and in a flash of red, Helioptile appeared beside Oshawott. Immediately, the pokemon stared shaking its head and crying out loud. It’s voice was a bit lower than Jacob remembered, but he didn’t focus on that.

“Helioptile, relax.” Jacob’s words could not soothe the pokemon however, and he continued his fit. Oshawott walked over to the pokemon, and putting his hand on Helioptile’s shoulder, began talking.

“Oshawott, Osha Osha.” Helioptile, still with tears in his eyes, began to calm down. Oshawott sat next to the pokemon with a big smile, and Jacob smiled as well. It wasn’t long before all three of them were asleep in the tent, waiting for morning.

"Sorry" Reginler said "I just get fed up for some reason when such and such says 'hey you wanna know who the such and such is?' And then the person says yes and then the guy says 'it's me!' And the. The other guy says 'Omg I totally didn't know that"

Jacob woke up the next morning to find Helioptile missing. Jacob quietly stood up, so as not to wake Oshawott who was, of course, still sleeping. Outside of the ten, Jacob saw Helioptile sitting beside the put out campfire. Jacob walked over and sat next to the pokemon. Helioptile looked up at Jacob before looking back at the fire. The pokemon still seemed to be nervous around him. Jacob didn’t feel like he could really say anything to help Helioptile either. So the two of them sat there for a few minutes as they waited for Oshawott to wake up.

Suddenly, another pokemon appeared; it was a Bunnelby. Jacob looked at Helioptile, and finally spoke.

“Are you ready for a battle?” Helioptile looked away, as if to indicate no, but then looked back at the pokemon and stood.

“Helio!” he said, as the pokemon shifted to all force in an attack stance.

“Perfect,” Jacob replied. “Helioptile, use thundershock!” The pokemon’s ears expanded, as they glowed yellow with electricity, before a bolt was sent flying towards the Bunnelby. The wild Bunnelby was hit by the attack, and recoiled for a moment before looking angrily at Jacob and Helioptile. It rushed forwards with a quick attack, slamming into Helioptile and sending him flying. “Helioptile!” Jacob yelled as his new pokemon fell to the ground. “You okay?” The electric pokemon stood back up and nodded. “Good, then use pound!” Helioptile ran towards Bunnelby, who easily dodged the attack.

Coming back with another quick attack, Helioptile was thrown into the air again. This time, Bunnelby followed up its attack with a double slap, leaping into the air and spiking Helioptile into the ground. Jacob ran over to Helioptile; he was fine, but it took him some time to stand back up again. Unfortunately, the wild Bunnelby disappeared, digging underground before Helioptile was able to launch another attack.

“Well,” Jacob began. “We’ll get ‘em next time.” Helioptile nodded beside him. “Let’s go wake up Oshawott,” Jacob said, half-laughing.

"Hmm..." She looked around, noticing she was rather close to Shutterbug Cafe. She thought a coffee would be nice, but she didn't want to have to listen to people rant about the newest cameras, and such. And there was always the off chance that Flint could sneak a few sips of coffee down his beak while Nyra was in the restroom, and that was definitely not appreciated.

After a few moments of walking, she reached Sycamore's Pokemon Research Lab"; the fond memory of her mother taking her along with her on a business trip, that Espurr chasing a Chespin around... It seemed like an eternity, let alone just eight years.

Jacob strolled down the path. They weren’t far from Santalune, and Jacob guessed they’d be back before lunch time. Oshawott sat on Jacob’s shoulded. Now wide awake, the water pokemon was looking for ways to pass the time. The pokemon preferred not to walk, so he was pointing out very normal things along the road, and Jacob was getting tired of his pokemon’s randomness. But they were almost to the city, and Jacob spent his time playing with Helioptile’s pokeball, throwing it from hand to hand; shrinking it, then expanding it again and again.

Suddenly, Jacob felt the ground shake beneath him. Several feet away, on the path in front of him, a head popped out from underground. It was a Bunnelby. Jacob couldn’t tell if it was the same one from his battle with Helioptile, but it didn’t matter much to him.

“Oshawott, you ready?” Oshawott jumped down from Jacob’s shoulder and nodded with a “Osha!” “Good,” Jacob replied. “Let’s catch it this time!” As Jacob said this, the ground shook again, and Bunnelby popped up from beneath the ground entirely. However, beneath the pokemon was something else. As Bunnelby continued to rise, it became clear that there was something else beneath it. Jacob and Oshawott watched as a Diggersby climbed out of the hole in the ground, with Bunnelby still on its head. The pokemon flexed menacingly.

“Digg, Digger!” Bunnelby looked at Diggersby, and then at Jacob and Oshawott. Jacob shot Oshawott a look, and the water pokemon leapt onto Jacob’s shoulder.

“Let’s get out of here!” Jacob said as he and Oshawott ran around Diggersby, heading towards the city. Oshawott looked back, and saw the two rabbit pokemon in close pursuit. Oshawott looked forward. He could see the city in the distance, but Diggersby was gaining on him fast. Oshawott tapped Jacob on the shoulder. “You want to fight?” Jacob asked.

“Oshawott, Osha!” the pokemon replied, nodding an affirmative.

“Alright then,” Jacob said. “Use water gun!” Jacob stopped sharply and turned around as Oshawott pushed off his shoulders into the air and released a beam of water at the approaching Diggersby. The pokemon was hit, and Bunnelby leapt from Diggersby’s head to avoid being sent backwards. Bunnelby turned to see Diggersby on the ground, pulling himself back to his feet. The pokemon rushed forwards, using a tackle attack. “Oshawott, dodge!” Jacob’s water pokemon flew out of the way, and Jacob himself had to dive aside to not be hit by the wild pokemon. “Now, Oshawott, use razor shell!” Oshawott removed his shell from his chest, and one side began to glow blue. Oshawott ran forward, and swung his blade at Diggersby chest. The attack hit, and Diggersby stumled backwards.

Now, even more angrily, Diggersby used hammerarm. His ears glowed white with energy, as he brought them down towards Oshawott. The attack was a near hit, but the force of the blow sent Jacob’s pokemon falling backwards. After a couple backwards rolls, Oshawott stood back up, and brushed himself off. Jacob thought about his next move. He wanted to keep Oshawott far enough away to avoid another attack like that. “Oshawott, use water gun!” Oshawott once again shot a beam of water towards Diggersby, but this time he pokemon blocked the attack with its powerful ears. Jacob became worried; he was not going to be able to win the fight with Oshawott from afar. He’d need Oshawott to be in close range to hit Diggersby with anything strong enough to do damage.

“Alright Oshawott, use water jet!” Oshawott became covered in water before shooting towards Diggersby. The wild pokemon was not expecting an attack like that, and Oshawott slammed into the pokemon’s underbelly, knocking Diggersby off-guard. “Now, use razor shell!” Oshawott broke free of the water surrounding him, grabbed his shell, and hit Diggersby with a strike to his shoulder. Diggersby was sent spinning by the attack, now entirely unable to counter. “Now, Oshawott, use water gun!” Oshawott sent another beam of water one final time at the off-balance Diggersby, and the large rabbit pokemon fell to the ground, unable to move. Oshawott turned around, ecstatic, but out of breath, near collapse.

Jacob entertained the thought of capturing the Diggersby before the wild Bunnelby leapt in front of him, prepared to battle. Jacob looked at his exhausted Oshawott. He couldn’t fight Bunnelby too, and there was no way Helioptile could fight off Bunnelby. Jacob lifted Oshawott, and turned around, walking towards the city. He could see it now, and they’d be there in less than an hour.

(OOC: Karley, I am new, but I thought everyone was supposed to write a paragraph or more each post, unless they were responding to someone else. I could be wrong, since I am new. If I am please tell me why; I'm still learning how these RPs work. Thanks!)

BIC:

Jacob yawned. He had spent the night at the pokemon center in Santalune, and was now ready to challenge the gym. When he left two days ago to go to the Santalune forest, his Oshawott was a mess. Now, he and Oshawott had defeated a Diggersby, a very powerful pokemon, and he had a new addition to his team, Helioptile. Together, he was confident they could beat the gym leader. Oshawott was still asleep as Jacob began to pack. When he was finally done, he shook Oshawott awake and together the two of them headed towards the Santalune City Gym.

The gym did not look overly impressive to Jacob from the outside, but he decided not judge the gym itself based on its architecture. Oshowatt and Jacob entered, and took in the gym. It was far more impressive from the inside; as a massive greenhouse, the gym was filled with bug type pokemon. Several trainers were off to Jacob’s right, battling with a Caterpie and a Venipede. Jacob walked over to watch the match for a few seconds before reminding himself why he was there; he needed to find Violet to battle her. He had seen her picture in the news before; he just needed to find her. He spent several minutes searching the gym before hearing a voice from behind him.

“I don’t recognize you…. Are you looking for me?” Jacob turned around to see the gym leader of the Santalune City Gym, Violet. She looked just like the picture in the article he had read about her.

“Yea, I suppose,” Jacob replied. “My name’s Jacob, and I’m here to challenge the Santalune Gym.”

“Very well,” Violet responded nonchalantly. She obviously did this all the time. Jacob followed her into the back of the gym, where an open field, painted like a pokemon stadium was revealed. Violet was speaking the entire time, about the history of the gym, and then about her first pokemon, and then about…. Jacob didn’t notice what. He wasn’t really paying attention to her, since he was focusing on making a plan for the battle. “I always use this one first,” Violet said throwing her first pokeball. After a flash of red, Surskit appeared on the field.

“Perfect” Jacob thought to himself. Surskit was half water type, which left it weak to Jacob’s Helioptile. “Let’s go, Helioptile!” Jacob’s pokeball popped open to reveal Helioptile, well rested and prepared for battle.

“Very well,” Violet responded. “Challenger goes first.”

“Alright, Helioptile, use thundershock!” Helioptile nodded, with a “Helioptile!” His ears swung open and glowed yellow with electricity before firing a bolt of electricity towards Surskit. The pokemon was hit, and Surskit recoiled, before the attack ended, and Surskit remained upright.

“Now its my turn, I guess,” Violet responded. “Surskit, use ice beam!” The pokemon fired a glowing beam towards Helioptile.

“Helioptile, use quick attack!” Helioptile rushed forwards, glowing white. He dodged the ice beam attack before slamming into Surskit, this time knocking the pokemon to the ground.

“Surskit!” Violet yelled. But Jacob wasn’t finished.

“Helioptile, use thundershock again!” Helioptile sent another bolt towards Surskit, zapping the pokemon while it was still on the ground.

“Surskit, use Bubble!” The bug pokemon pulled itself to her feet before firing a beam of glowing bubbles towards Helioptile. Helioptile was hit, and sent falling backwards. “Let’s see how you like it,” Violet continued. “Surskit use quick attack!”

“Helioptile, use charge and quick attack!” Helioptile began to glow yellow as he stood. With a quick push both pokemon were sent flying towards each other, crashing together in the center of the field. The collision of the attacks kicked up dust. When the dust cleared, Surskit lay on the ground, unable to move. Helioptile still stood, although with several bruises, and he was breathing heavily.

“Well, it seems like you’ve got a chance at winning,” Violet said. “But you’ve still gotta beat my Vivillon!” She threw her pokeball and the butterfly pokemon appeared in front of her.

“Alright, Helioptile, let’s do this, use thunderbolt!”

“Uh-uh, it’s my turn to go first,” Violet jocked. “Vivillon, dodge it and use stun spore!” Vivillon easily dodged the bolt of electricity, and flew forward, releasing spores that covered Helioptile, freezing him in place. “Perfect, Vivillon; now use gust!” Vivillon flapped its wings, sending a forceful wind towards Helioptile, and knocking him to the ground. Unable to move, Jacob recalled Helioptile.

“It’s your turn Oshawott,” Jacob said. Oshawott stepped forward onto the battlefield. “Oshawott, use water gun!”

“Dodge it, Vivillon!” Vivillon flew to the side, but was not fast enough, and was clipped by Oshawott’s attack.

“Now Oshawott, use aqua jet!” Oshawattwas covered by water, and flew towards Vivillon.

“Vivillon, use psychic!” Vivillon glowed blue, and Oshawott began to glow the same color. Suddently, Oshawott stopped moving, and the water than surrounded him dropped to the ground.

“Oshawott!” Jacob shouted as Oshawott was sent plummeting to the ground. Jacob’s water pokemon stood back up, however. “Good, use Razor Shell!” Oshawott was now much closer Vivillon, and Jacob knew that Oshawott’s durability and speed were his advantage. Oshawott leapt forward into the air, using his shell to strike Vivillon. Vivillon, recoiled before falling to the ground. “Now, Oshawott, use water gun again!”

“Vivillon use gust!” Violet yelled. While still on the ground Vivillon was able to send a small gust towards Oshawott, who released a forceful beam of water towards Vivillon. The water gun hit, despite the wind pushing it away. Vivallon dropped her head to the ground, defeated.

“Great job Oshawott!” Oshawott turned back towards Jacob before collapsing, out of breath, and out of energy. “Well done!”

(You don't have to.)
Karley had finally reached Lumious City. "This place is way to big but...there's always something weird with me going here."

“Osha, Oshawott, Osha Oshawott! Oshaaaaaawott, Osha-wott!” Oshawott was very talkative today. It must have been his last battle; Jacob was feeling pretty high after winning his first gym badge as well. If everything was as easy as his last fight, challenging this league would be a breeze. Together they headed out, toward Lumiose City.

Route five was a pretty beautiful route; fields with flowers that looked nothing like Unova. Still feeling good, Jacob and Oshawott happily walked until it became dark, which wasn’t long; they had left relatively late in the day, after Oshawott had recovered from the gym battle. Together, they pitched the tent, with Oshawott finding the fire wood once again, before falling asleep.

Jacob woke with a start; there was a lot of commotion going on outside his tent. While Oshawott remained asleep like a log, Jacob swung open the door of his tent to see Bunnelby, kicking over his campfire and pushing on the side of his tent.

“You again?!?” Jacob asked angrily. He raised to his feet. “Leave us alone!” Bunnelby turned towards Jacob, angrily, before flying forward, slamming into him and knocking him over. “Fine then.” Jacob grabbed a pokeball from his tent, and threw it in front of him. In a flash of red, Helioptile appeared. “Helioptile, use thundershock!” Helioptile sent a bolt of lightning forward, hitting Bunnelby who recoiled. “Perfect, now use quick attack!” Helioptile nodded at Jacob, and, glowing white, flew towards Bunnelby.

The wild rabbit pokemon was unable to dodge the attack, and was hit in the gut. Falling to the ground, Bunnelby had to take a moment to recover. Helioptile watched as Bunnelby struggled to stand up before disappeared underground once again.

“Good job Helioptile!”

“He, Helio!” the pokemon responded, smiling.

“Now, let’s get some more sleep…. If we can.”

Karley went back out to rout five. "Nice place to be...if you like flowers..." a Luxray was standing next to her. "Ginji what do you think?" the Luxray was watching and listening for people or pokemon. it growled "gr..." Karley looked at it. "It's ok we're fine, ok."

Jacob woke up later than usual that day. So late, in fact, that Oshawott was already awake, and had been cleaning up their campsite. Jacob was a bit confused, unsure of what to do, but when Oshawott saw his trained awake, he jumped on top of Jacob.

“Yea… Alright.,” Jacob said as he let out a chuckle. “Let’s get moving; we’ve got a ways to go until we reach Lumoise.” Jacob and Oshawott finished packing up, and headed out back on the route. While flowers weren’t Jacob’s favorite thing, he enjoyed the view. Especially because he was looking for pokemon. He had heard of some pokemon that live on the flowers, and he wanted to see one. He looked and looked, but was disappointed.

After about an hour of walking, Jacob and Oshawott sat down to take a break. Jacob leaned back, and picked one of the flowers. He began pulling the petals off the flower on by one before he noticed a tiny misshapen part that he hadn’t noticed before. When it moved, Jacob immediately dropped the flower. But it stayed there, suspended in the air. As the thing turned around, Jacob realized it was a pokemon.

“Be?” The pokemon asked quietly. Jacob tilted his head, at the pokemon, and the pokemon did the same back.

“So, that’s a Flabebe, eh? How are you Flabebe?” Jacob asked.

“Flabebe Fla,” the tiny pokemon responded. She didn’t seem angry at all that Jacob had pulled the petals off her home. Jacob watched as she dropped her flower, and went over to another, softly landing on top of it. For a momment, Flabebe and the flower glowed, and then Flabebe flew up again, with a new, blue flower.

“Flabebe, how would you feel about coming with me? I could take you all over Kalos!”

“OSHA!” Oshawott added, throwing his head forward towards Flabebe, who, backed away from Oshawott’s aggressiveness. Jacob put his hand on Oshawott’s head as if to say “relax.”

Flabebe, in the meantime, motioned towards Jacob’s pokeballs. “Bebe!”

“Ah, I see….,” Jacob mumbled. “You want to battle?” Flabebe nodded. “Very well then.” Jacob stood, and waited for Flabebe to take her position. “Helioptile, let’s go!” In a flash of red, Helioptile appeared in front of Jake. He let out a smile and a “Helio!” “Helioptile, use thundershock!” Helioptile fired a bolt of electricity towards Flabebe, who used her small size to avoid the lightning attack. She then fired back with a magical leaf attack. As glowing leaves crashed into Helioptile, Jacob thought about his next move.

“Helioptile, use charge, and then quick attack!” Helioptile glowed yellow with electric power before shooting forward with great speed. Helioptile slammed into Flabebe, who was thrown yards because of her size. With Flabebe injured on the ground, Jacob threw a pokeball. Flabebe disappeared in a flash of red, and his pokeball shook…. Once… twice… three times. “Great job Helioptile!” Jacob shouted before recalling his pokemon. Oshawott jumped back up onto Jacob, and the two of them continued down the road.

They hadn’t been walking much longer when Jacob saw someone up ahead. Someone, and some pokemon. “Perhaps this will be a chance for a battle,” Jacob thought to himself. However, as they approached, it became increasingly clear that this would not be the case. The pokemon was a Luxray, a pokemon that would undoubtedly overpower any of Jacob’s pokemon, maybe even all three. Nontheless, Jacob thought he’d introduce himself. He headed towards the girl, preparing to shake her hand, provided Luxray had no problems with it.

Ginji growled a bit then realized that they were going to shake hands and calmed down. "Sorry about Ginji, she's my main Pokémon." she shook hands. "My name is Karley!" she smiled. Her Luxray was very different from her but they are best friends. Then her other Luxray ,this time being male, came out of it's pokeball and seemed more friendly. "That's Gunji. My male Luxray."

"Hi, I'm Jacob," Jacob responded. "And this," Jacob motioned to his shoulder. "... is Oshawott." Jacob glanced up at Oshawott, why was shaking, obviously nervious about the rather large Luxrays that currently seemed to threaten them. Jacob continued. "It's nice to meat you. So, obviously your a pretty strong trainer; what are you doing here?"

After destroying Viola with his Gallade, Razor, Reginler got his first badge from Kalos "alright what's next? That biking fanatic place right? Cyllage if im correct" Reginler said "Salamence! Fly me to Cyllage!" As Reginler said that, his dragon friend popped out "mence men!" He said as Reginler hopped onto him and zipped away

"See I come from the Sinnoh but I moved here. These two were my first pokemon." her trainer card was pulled out of her pocket by a apom. "That's Liv."

"Well," Jacob replied. "I'm originally from Unova; aren't many people here from there. I'm trying to get all the badges in Kalos. Speaking of which, how far is it to Lumiose?"

"Great!" Jacob replied. "Thanks! It was nice meeting you,” he said, before he and Oshawott continued down the road. It was only a few minutes before Jacob decided to take another rest, and he called out his pokemon. Flabebe and Helioptile appeared beside him as he pulled several sandwiches out of his bag. He realized that Flabebe would not be able to eat the food like Oshawott or Helioptile; he rubbed his fingers on the sandwich, creating crumbs that were small enough for the fairy pokemon.

“Bebe!” the pokemon responded happily, as she began to eat. Oshawott had already finished his sandwich, seemingly in one gulp. Oshawott stood up, and began to explore, like he often did. He eventually picked a spot to sit; the opposite side of the path, in front of a bush.

After everyone had finished their lunch, Jacob recalled Helioptile and Flabebe, and together he and Oshawott continued towards Lumiose City.

"Ugh, what a waste..." Nyra and Flint exited the building, both with completely different perspectives. Nyr held out her new-and-improved Mega Ring. Instead of a bracelet-like form, it was now on her middle finger, actually in the form of ring. "At least it's not as bulky..." She sighed, stepping down the concrete steps of the lab's entrance.

Her Talonflame was still munching on some Poke-Puff flavored trail mix that Professor Sycamore had offered him inside the laboratory. Nyra leaned against a lamppost, looking around at the people passing by. "What should we do now, Flint...? It's too late to head on back to Anistar..."

“Sure,” Jacob replied to the girl. He figured it might be nice to have a companion for a while. Jacob and Oshawott walked into Lumiose, City. It was the largest city Jacob had ever been in, and Jacob was awestruck for only a moment. He and Oshawott continued further into the city, looking for the pokemon center. They made a wrong turn, however, into a rather dark alley. Jacob immediately wanted to leave the area, but something caught his eye.

Only several feet from him, a man, dressed entirely in red stood with a Barbaracle, looking over a young boy on his knees, an unconscious Fennekin at his feet. The man looked hostile, and Jacob intervened.

“Leave that kid alone,” Jacob shouted. “Osha, Oshawott!” Oshawott repeated angrily. Jacob stepped forward, approaching the two. The man in red looked up, irritated, but his expression quickly changed into a confident smile.

“How about you hand over all your pokemon?” the man in red addressed Jacob. Barbaracle stepped forwards, menacingly.

“Alright then,” Jacob mumbled aloud. “Helioptile,” he called as he dropped a pokeball, revealing the electric-reptile pokemon. Helioptile did not frighten the man in red, and Barbaracle continued to advance. “Helioptile, use quick attack!” The pokemon rushed forward, glowing white, but Barbaracle simply knocked the pokemon away with his hand. “Helioptile, use thundershock!” Helioptile fired a bolt of electricity at the Barbaracle, and it hit. But Barbaracle continued walking forward, through the attack. It wasn’t strong enough. “Again!” Jacob ordered. And Helioptile sent another bolt of electricity, this time with more energy, and it hit again, but it was not enough to stop the Barbaracle.

“Ha,” the man in red laughed. “Your pokemon are weaker than this child’s! Barbaracle, let’s end this.”

“Helioptile, use thundershock; put everything you’ve got into it!” Once again, Helioptile sent a bolt of electricity slamming into Barbaracle, and once again, the pokemon continued to push through the attack. Helioptile, held up his attack this time, and all of a sudden, the attack became thicker. The bolts expanded, and Barbaracle stopped in its tracks.

“What...” Jacob whispered to himself. He pulled out his pokedex and pointed it at Helioptile. “Ah, Helioptile learned thunderbolt,” Jacob thought to himself. “Great job Helioptile,” Jacob said. “Keep it up; keep using thunderbolt!” Helioptile nodded, and Barbaracle fell to its knees before dropping to the ground. The man in red was stunned. Jacob looked at him wryly. “Good work, Helioptile. Come on back,” Jacob said as he recalled his pokemon. Jacob gave a nod to the boy before heading back onto the main road, looking for the pokemon center.

It wasn’t long before Jacob found the pokemon center. He handed his pokemon over to Nurse Joy, and then sat in the lobby with Oshawott waiting. They had been waiting for about a half hour when a man in a lab coat walked up to them. Jacob didn’t recognize the man, and was wary after his experience with the last stranger he came across in the city.

“Hello?” The man asked. Jacob stared at the man for a moment before responding.

“Yes?”

“You’re the man that protected that child down the street, no?” Jacob wasn’t sure how he should respond; should he tell the truth? Maybe this guy was working with the other one. Maybe the man dressed in red went to the police and lied about what happened, making him out to be the villain. He decided to tell the truth, but say as little as he could.

“Yes, that was me. Can I help you?” The man smiled at Jacob.

“Perhaps I can help you,” the man replied. “My name is Professor Sycamore. I work here in Kalos, generally with low level trainers, helping beginners and the like. That boy you helped; Thomas was his name. I had just given him his first pokemon yesterday. Apparently, there has been someone stealing the pokemon I give to new trainers. I wanted to thank you for helping me find and get rid of him.”

“Yea of course,” Jacob replied, relieved. “I mean, it was no problem.”

“Well, I’ve done a lot of work with pokemon, ya know, and I was thinking that I could thank you by helping you out. If you could, I would first asses your pokemon. How would you feel about a pokemon battle?”

“Uh, yea of course!” Jacob replied. “Just one second.” He looked over to the door that had just opened with his pokemon in their pokeballs. He walked over, picking up one in each hand. “Alright, let’s battle, but where?” Jacob asked.

“I’ve got a place, just a block away from here. Come on.” Jacob followed the man out the door of the pokemon center. It wasn’t a far walk to the professor’s lab. Jacob hadn’t been in a professor’s lab since he was ten years old, and got Oshawott. Professor Sycamore’s lab was significantly different from the one in Unova; three stories high, it would’ve towered over the one in his home town.

Once they were inside, Professor Sycamore led them to a room that had a wide open space in the center. “Here we are,” the Professor declared. “This will work. Go!” He threw a pokeball into the center, and a Fennekin appeared.

“Ready, Oshawott?” Jacob asked as his pokemon leapt from his shoulders. “Osha!”

“I’ll begin,” Professor Sycamore said. “Fennekin, use ember!” Fennekin opened her mouth and released a blast of fiery embers flying towards Oshawott. The attack hit knocking up smoke. When the smoke cleared, Oshawott stood, more or less unharmed.

“Oshawott, use water gun!” Oshawott fired a beam of water at Fennekin.

“Fennekin, dodge!” The fire-fox pokemon jumped out of the way with ease. “Now, use tackle!” Fennekin rushed at Oshawott, preparing for a collision.

“Oshawott, aqua jet!” Oshawott became covered with water before firing himself directly at Fennekin. The two attacks collided, and it was Fennekin who was sent falling to the ground. “Now Oshawott, use water gun!” Oshawott ended his aqua jet attack, and sent another beam of water forcefully flying at Fennekin. The attack hit, and Fennekin was slammed into the ground. When the attack ended, Fennekin was unable to move.

“Well done,” the Professor said. “Let’s see how you do against this one!” From his second pokeball, a Chespin appeared. “Chespin, use vine whip!” From Chespin’s back two vines extended, grabbing Oshawott. With Oshawott unable to move, Chespin’s vines lifted him into the air, before slamming him on the ground. Oshawott stood, but was injured; the attack was, of course, super effective.

“Oshawott, use water gun!” Oshawott fired a beam of water again. It hit, knocking Chespin back, but not doing serious damage.

“Chespin, use rollout!” The grass pokemon rolled up in a ball before flying towards Oshawott.

“Oshawott, use razor shell!” Oshawott removed his shell from his chest, and swung it forward, hitting Chespin’s rollout attack. The force from the collision sent both pokemon falling backwards. Chespin stood, but Oshawott remained on the ground. “Oshawott,” Jacob thought out loud as he picked up his fallen teammate. He walked back to his position, and placed Oshawott next to him. “Take a rest. Flabebe,” he grabbed a pokeball. “Use fairy wind!” Flabebe appeared in front of Jacob before releasing a powerful gust of wind, which knocked Chespin to the ground. The pokemon tried to stand before collapsing, unconscious.

Professor Sycamore recalled Chespin before releasing his last pokemon; Jacob already knew what it would be. “Froakie, use water gun!” The frog pokemon released a beam of water, smaller than Oshawott’s but still with power behind it. Flabebe was hit, and fell to the ground before the attack was over. But she rose again, relatively quickly.

“Alright, Flabebe,” Jacob said, thinking. “Us...” But Jacob did not finish his thought. Flabebe began to glow white. Jacob was unsure what was happening until his pokemon began to change shape. “Flabebe…” he said as his pokemon grew twice as tall.

“Floette,” the pokemon said, happily.

“That’s great Flabebe, I mean, Floette!” Jacob was ecstatic. Floette was the first pokemon he ever had that evolved.

“I knew your pokemon would be strong,” Professor Sycamore stated, very matter-of-fact-ly.

“Floette, use magical leaf!” Floette released several glowing leaves, almost as large as her herself, and sent them flying at Froakie. With one hit, Froakie fell to the ground, defeated. “Great job, Floette!” Jacob said, running over to his newly evolved pokemon.

“Your pokemon definitely like you a lot,” Professor Sycamore said, walking over to Jacob. “I know you treat your pokemon well. I would like to give you a gift,” he said. “The pokemon you just battled; you can have whichever of them you like, just like a new trainer would get. In exchange, I have something I’d like you to do.”

Jacob thought for a moment before responding. “No thank you. I mean, thank you for the offer, but I prefer to capture my own pokemon.” As he said this, Floette used Aromatherapy, covering he ground with a pink mist. After a few seconds Oshawott sat up. “I know these pokemon aren’t easy to find…”

“Very well,” Professor Sycamore responded. “But I hope you will do me this favor anyhow.”

“What is it?”

“Well, one of my lab assistants here have asked if they couldn’t get some experience outside the lab, and I was thinking maybe you could take him around; let him follow you. He’s about your age and his name is Kevin.”

“Uh…. Sure I suppose,” Jacob responded. “Can I meet him now… or…”

“I’ll send him to the pokemoncenter first thin tomorrow morning. So, what are your plans while you are here?”

“Well, I’d like to battle the gym,” Jacob answered, picking up Oshawott in his arms. Professor Sycamore’s face became a bit more serious.

“You shouldn’t fight the gym here yet; our gym leader is too strong for a trainer as young as you. You’ll need to go to Ambrette Town. Trust me, the gym leader there is much more open to… younger trainers like yourself.”

Jacob did not feel good about the way the professor was speaking with him, but he was well aware he wasn’t the strongest trainer. “Well, you know this area better than I do.” Jacob looked out the window; the sun had already started to lower in the sky. “It’s getting pretty late. We should get back to the pokemoncenter,” Jacob said motioning to Oshawott and Floette.

“Very well,” the professor responded. “I’ll see you in the morning.”

"Oh really?" Jacob asked. "Well, I've got a while to go." They continued their walk to the pokemon center. "By the way," Jacob asked. "You never told me how you became so strong. Your from Sinnoh I know, but that's not the only place you've been, is it?"

"Okay," Jacob said, waiting for more. When none came, he turned back away. "I guess she doesn't like to talk much, at least, not about herself," Jacob thought to himself without saying anything allowed.

They reached the pokemon center before long, and Jacob and Oshawott nearly immediately fell asleep.

Clunk, Clunk. The car made a noise with each bump. Professor Sycamore sat in the driver’s seat, with the other trainers either up front, or crammed in the back. Next to Jacob in the back sat Kevin; he appeared to be a nice guy, and Jacob had been enjoying his company. Oshawott was a bit nervous around the new person, but Jacob was sure it would pass. Professor Sycamore had been nice enough to agree to drive Jacob and his group to Ambrette down; it was only about an hour drive, but the walk would have taken days. Jacob reminded himself to thank the professor when they arrived.

It wasn’t long before they did, and they all filed out of the car. Jacob looked up the road to see Ambrette town; they were just about a 5 minute walk from the village, and it was still before lunch. Jacob thanked the professor, and they all, with the exception of Professor Sycamore, walked the rest of the way to the town. In the meantime, Jacob continued to question Kevin.

“So, you wanted to come with me on my travels. Do you have your own pokemon?”

“That I do,” Kevin replied, searching his pocket. He finally found the pokeball he had been looking for and, dropping it on the round, it unleased a red flash. A Hawlucha appeared, standing next to Jacob.

“Wow, a Hawlucha! I’ve never seen one of those before!” Jacob exclaimed. Oshawott was excited too, shifting around on Jacob’s shoulders, but saying nothing.

“Yea I’ve been with him three years now. He’s a great companion.”

“I’ll bet,” Jacob responded. Just then, Jacob realized they had been in town for some time, and figured he should begin looking for the gym. He searched and searched, but couldn’t find the gym anywhere. Finally, he pulled out his phone, and checked the interned. “That Airheaded Professor!” Jacob shouted. “There’s no gym in Ambrette Town!”

“Argh!” Jacob huffed. “You’re right, Karley. Of course you’re right… ugh, now we have to walk!”

“It’s not that bad,” Kevin responded. “Isn’t that what you signed up for anyway?”

“Yea I suppose,” Jacob responded, angrily removing Oshawott from his shoulders, and placing him on the ground. Oshawott shot an irritated look at Jacob, prompting Jacob to respond. “Look, if we are walking all the way to Cyllage, there’s no way I’m carrying you the whole time.” Oshawott huffed at this as well, and began walking forward. The rest of the group followed.

They hadn’t been walking for long when the group decided to take a break. Kevin pulled several sandwiches out of his bag and handed them out. The group sat eating for a while, talking about their hometowns, before discussing how they got here to Kalos. While were talking however, a pokemon stuck its head out of the ground. Jacob didn’t recognize the pokemon until the leapt from the ground with the rest of its body. It was a Tyrunt.

“A Tyrunt?” Jacob asked.

“Tyrunts went extinct some years ago,” Kevin responded. “I don’t know how one got here?” Kevin and Jacob looked at each other.

“However it got here, I’m going to catch it!” Jacob said, rising to his feet. “Helioptile, let’s go!” Helioptile appeared in front of Jacob. “Helioptile, use thunderbolt!” The pokemon spreaded its ears wide, and fired off a powerful bolt of lightning. The attack hit, and the Tyrunt turned around towards Helioptile, angrily. Rushing at Helioptile, the pokemon used a tackle attack, knocking Helioptile to the ground. “Helioptile, use thunder wave!” Jacob ordered. The pokemon released a charge of electricity, hitting Tyrunt, and paralyzing the pokemon. “Great, now, use quick attack!” Helioptile dashed forward, slamming into Tyrunt, and knocking him to the ground. With Tyrunt still unable to move, Jacob thought this would be his chance. He threw a pokeball, and the pokemon disappeared in a flash of red. “Yes!” Jacob shouted, holding his pokeball in the air.
