Ask to Join Hero High - Semester 1

"I don't know man. Even beef jerky has some strength to it. And that's raw. I think." there was a short second of a stomach rumbling. "Nevermind the food. I'm here for a good time and comfy living." Adrian picked up the deck of cards and did a basic shuffle. It wasn't as graceful as he hoped but he managed to keep the cards from slipping out of his hands. After placing the deck back on the tray he drew the first 5 cards without looking at them.

"You asked if I can play cards? pick the game and watch me play it out with whatever is in my hand."

Drake was left staring at Adrian once again with disbelief. This guy was probably one of the weirdest people he had ever met.
"Uh... You know, at least where I come from, we pick the game before we deal the hands." Drake said. He grinned before cutting the deck. "That whole thing of shuffling the deck only to deal to yourself, any reputable casino would kick you out for that."
Drake scratched his cheek, thinking a moment.
"We don't have enough people for Hearts, so..." Drake looked between Amalia and Adrian. "Either of you played 500 Rum before? It is a bit of a longer game, but it would be a good way to pass the time until we get to the school."

Amalia was momentarily stunned by Ardian introduction and she wasn't even sure if she got confused by it or not, but the ginger hair girl got the impression that Adrian was surely more than unusual. Her head turned towards Drake, who introduced himself to the 'shining star' (or whatever) and suggested that the three students should play a game called '500 rum'. The blue eyed girl had played card games before, but she was unsure if either of the other students had played any similar card games to what she had in mind.

"Sounds good, but I'm not sure if I've played it before.. I might have, but under a different name," Amalia replied to Drake, but then turned her attention towards Adrian, "I'm Amalia. Nice to meet you.. Adrian, was it?"

Tyler has blocked out pretty much everything through the sound canceling headphones, and he noticed out of the corner of his eyes that Ajax seemed extremely excited about something, but he didn’t bother to look. He was too focused on the music.

Shadow, on the other hand, got up to check everybody out. He strolled down until he got to the Bronze seats, and noticed some of them playing cards. “What’s this? Is a round of the old 500?”, Shay asked, his wavy black hair hanging in front of his face as he gazed down at them.

“Oh nice me too, I have to wear a containment suit at all times or I risk losing track of my energy levels... long story short my body is still adapting to my powers. I mean this..:” Ajax gestured toward his Snow White hair “this is a result of my body subconsciously radiating energy, the radiation going back and forth through my hair bleached it all permanently. Hey you hungry? I haven’t eaten today, want anything from the self serve cafe?” Ajax rose from his seat and casually wandered his way over to the assortment of free food available in a corner of the compartment.

Aisha listened to his response. She was mildly surprised, however, when she learned that his hair color was not natural. She was born with her hair color, and she had simply assumed he was also. As she asked if she was hungry, she nodded her head slightly. "Better safe than sorry," she said, making her way over to the self serve cafe. After glancing at all the options, she chose some fruit. She didn't often indulge in sugary treats, and now was no exception.

"Well, it's not too complicated of a game. And hopefully, it's not too hard to pick up for you guys." Drake said. He reached over and lowered the fold-out trays that were in front of Amalia and meteor-head. With that done, he dealt out seven cards to Amalia and himself, then two more to Adrian to complete his hand. Then setting the deck on his fold-out tray, he flipped up the top card and put it next to the deck. "The point of the game is to put down melds. Basically, three cards that are either the same number or three cards of a sequence that are part of the same suit. For example, you would put down three queens, or you could put down a 3, 4, and 5 of spades. At the end of the round, what you've put down turns into points, and the first one to 500 wins."

Drake explained the rules to the game, and just as they were starting another student walked up. One dressed in all black... but more notably having the stripes that marked him as a Silver student. It appeared that he was interested in the game, but what the heck was a Silver student doing back in the Bronze seating?
"Yeah." Drake said. "I would offer you a seat, but well..."
Drake gestured to the crowded and cramped seating around him. There was barely any room for all the Bronzes, let alone students from other sections.

Adrian cracked his knuckles and smirked. "that's it? seems like an easy game" Adrian took a moment to look at his cards. to put down a meld he just needed three of the same card number of a sequence. He had neither of those. somehow heed had it where he would need at least four more cards to make a meld. The worse part was he couldn't say drake cheated because he shuffled first. He folded his cards into his lap and looked off to the side. "You guys can go first. Get a headstart on points to make this a fair game."

Shadow stared into Drake for a few seconds, slightly flinching and then putting on a smug grin.
“Nah, you don’t need t’ deal me in. I should probably leave you alone,” he grimly stated as he turned around heading off.
The black haired boy stopped for a second, and then turned his head to Drake around. His rich purple eyes seemed to glow and show pain.
“Cause Silvers dont hang out with Bronzers, right?”, he coldly spoke with a presence of another evil like emotion. A pulse of dark energy mindlessly went off to only Drake.
Shadow continued to walk back to the Silver Seats, and sat down alone. He put his hand to his forehead, covering his eyes, and had a devilish grin on his face.

"Uh, what? No, you don't-" Drake said, but the strange student was already walking away. Suddenly the student stopped, turning back to Drake. He had this strange look in his eye, looking almost hurt. All Drake had said was that there wasn't any seats! Heck, he hadn't actually said that. Drake had inferred that. But evidently, the guy had thought Drake had meant something different.

As if to prove Drake's point, the student then said something about how "Silvers don't hang out with Bronze" in a very cold voice. Ah. So that was what the dark-haired Silver had thought Drake had meant.
"That's not what I-" Before Drake could respond, something... unusual... happened. It felt like something pushed his chest, not on a physical level. No... he had a sudden loss a breath as a strange feeling of dread washed over him. Drake put a hand to his chest with a confused look on his face. What the heck?
"Oof..." Drake muttered, regaining his breath. A shiver went down his spine, and Drake shook his head before looking back in the direction the Silver had gone. There sure were a lot of weirdos that went to this school.

Drake rolled his shoulders back before shaking his head once again, trying to clear the strange feeling.
"That was odd." Drake said, looking back over to Adrian and Amalia. He needed something to distract himself from that unusual experience.
"Well, I'll take first go if you insist." Drake said to Adrian, forcing a smile. He drew a card from the deck, looking over his hand. Nothing. With a shrug, Drake discarded a 3 of clubs to the discard pile. His turn done, he gestured to Amalia.
"It's your go now." Drake said to the girl.

Amalia was confused by the interaction between Drake and the mysterious silver student. She thought that it would've been fine of the higher tier student joined the game and it seemed like Drake was also open for the new student to join, but with the lack of any empty seats in the Bronze lounge made the scruffy haired boy reject the silver student. The part that Amalia was most confused about was how the silver tiered student took offence to that and assumed that the three Bronze students had turned him down because he was a Silver. Before the ginger haired girl or Drake could've responded to the newcomer, Drake was weirdly cut off by something. Amalia turned her attention to Drake, who luckily was quick to recover from whatever hit him. She nodded along Drakes comment about the oddity and watched him play his turn.

After Drake was done he gestured that it was the ginger haired girls turn next and thanks to the boy's explanation of the game and him going first, Amalia had a good grasp of game. She looked at her hand quickly before drawing a card from the deck. She got a four of diamonds, looked at her hand again, put the newly draw card in her hand next to a five of diamonds and discarded an eight of hearts to the discard pile.
"There," She said in a hesitant, but also cheerful tone.

Aisha set down her plate. now empty. She threw the barely-used napkin into the little trash-bin nearby. She waved goodbye to Ajax, and headed towards her seat. She pulled out her phone and checked the time. Her gaze drifted towards the window, and she gazed at the beautiful scenery. She wondered if the faculty would allow her to explore underwater if she shifted into a water animal. She had attempted water animals a few times, mostly in one of the house's pools. However, she usually stuck to land animals or flying ones. She continued to stare out the window, shifting in her seats every now and then to a more comfortable position.

“Attention all students we will be arriving at Hero High shortly, please gather your belongs and prepare for disembarkation” the disembodied voice once again reverberated through the submarines various compartments. Ajax barely took notice of the sound as he continued to scroll through his various emails, primarily regarding his new timetable and dorm room, A5. If he wasn’t mistaken the Gold tier dorms were arranged into 3 wings each consisting of 7 floors, floors 2-6 each containing a single private suite for the Gold Tier students. Each accessed by an elevator directly into the student’s suite. The seventh floor each consisted of an open air terrace as well as being the point at which the three wings converge, a trio of bridges linking each building to the other three. The central building being the location of most of the Dorm’s classes and training sessions.

As the submarine broke the surface of the water in Hero High’s submarine terminal, Ajax finished clearing the last of his emails and wandered his way toward the exit.

“Attention students we have now arrived at Hero High, please begin disembarkation, Gold Tier students using the front door, Silver and Bronze students use the main door.”

Ajax was one of the first students out of the submarine doors and onto the metal gangway striding his way past the waiting staff. Adjustment advisors was their official title, a group of three staff members employed to help students, especially those in bronze tier, find their way around the school and get used to living on campus. Ajax knew exactly where he was going , making a byline for the Gold Tier dorms to inspect his new living quarters. He would have flown to the dorms if not for the fact that he was wearing his Dress-Uniform.

<Delta>

Emily-Jane had Spent the majority of the trip mindlessly scrolling through her phone, checking emails and listening to music. Much like Ajax the details of her new accommodation had been the primary subject of her email backlog. The silver tier dorms were more spacious then those found in Bronze however she would still be sharing a room with a fellow student. By the looks of the email she was bunking with a student named (insert who ever wants to be Emily-jane’s roommate) in room 8C. Emily silently hoped her roommate wouldn’t be as irritating as the ones she had been trapped with during her time in bronze tier. Hearing the disembarkation announcement she made her way toward the main exit, slipping effortlessly into the crowds of bronze and silver students. Nervously Emily-Jane made her way toward the adjustment advisors and the small contingent of silver students mingling around them.

Aisha looked up from her phone when the speaker echoed. She had given up on looking out the window after a while. Though the scenery was truly beautiful, too much was too much. In the previous days, she had reread the emails containing her information multiple times. Her dorm was A6, and she had practically memorized her schedule. Her parents had insisted it was necessary to "optimize her training time". As the speaker blared once again, she got up and stretched. She rarely slouched, even while sitting in a comfortable seat. Though her formal way of sitting had become a habit, it wasn't always comfortable.

She exited from the door, a calm expression on her face. She knew what to expect, and doubted the school would change the dorms severely. As she walked, her mind drifted. While she engaged in social interactions, she often tried to maintain an air of friendliness. However, those who knew her knew exactly how serious and stoical she could be at times. She also rarely got stressed or truly scared. The last time she remembered feeling those emotions was when she was stuck in her animal form. She shook her head clear of the memory as she paused. Lost in thought, she had made it all the way to the elevator. She reached forward and pressed the button. As she waited, she fiddled with her clothes and made sure she looked presentable. After all, first impressions were bound to be plentiful soon.

Adrians brain was racking. Every time he drew a card it was the thing he could possibly get. Even when he could get meld he had to a wait a ton of turns for another. The head was dead last when it came to points. He didn't really pay much attention to the strange silver. He was on the verge of landing a good meld when he heard the announcement to leave. upon hearing he tossed the cards aside and stood up. "Finally, no more looking at dumb fish and water." He swiped through his phone to find the email detailing the school. He skipped past the dorm rules and looked for the cafeteria. All while chanting food under his breath. "Catch you guys later, I'm going for the big meals." With that he shoved his way out the submarine.

Drake had drawn a card for his turn. Lucky him! An Ace of Spades! With this card, he could lay down his three ace meld and discard, ending the round! These fools would-

But before Drake got the chance, an announcement rang through the submarine. They had finally made it to Hero High! Adrian seemed more than happy, quickly discarding his cards before saying something about big meals before practically pushing his way off the submarine. The teenager's mannerisms once again reminded Drake that there were quite a few strange people going to this school. Drake picked up the cards that Adrian had tossed aside, as well as the various melds the others had played and began to shuffle the cards back into the deck.
"Well. He was certainly in a rush, wasn't he?" Drake said, slipping the deck of cards back into his pocket. "I guess we'll just have to finish our game some other time."

Drake slowly stood up, stretching and looking around. First, the strangeness that was Meteor head, or Lava, or Adrian, or whatever he called himself. Then there was that unusual Silver student that Drake was 99% sure had tried to put a curse on him. For saying that there was no where to sit. Very normal. Well, at least Leon and Amalia seemed pretty normal. Drake began to follow the other Bronze students as they slowly made their way off the submarine. Finally, some fresh air for a period longer than 30 minutes!

Leon looked up when he heard about how the submarine finally arrived at hero high, the last time he heard that was when he was still a Bronze student. He only went around the Silver dorms once or twice, so he was somewhat familiar with the layout and directions, but to actually have a nice dorm there still felt strange, not that it was a dream to him but because he seemed too used to the Bronze dorms. Leon stood up and bent backwards to help himself stand up straight after a long while of sitting, he then grabbed his bag and began to join everyone else as they got off the submarine and made their way to their ranked dorms, mainly with the Silver students. "Hmm, what to do, grab something to eat or get settled into my new dorm?" He asked to himself unintentionally out loud.

Aria left the Dub as quickly as she could while still keeping in line with everyone else. As much as she didn’t mind the school’s transports, she preferred to not be in a confined space for an extended period of time, especially surrounded in a dangerous environment. As soon as she had exited the submarine she released herself from the bonds of gravity and flew up and away. Her version of flight was not true flight but an intricate balance of gravity manipulation on herself in relation to objects.

She headed to her dorm the way she flew through the air was incredibility fast and precise, she was nothing but a blur. In minuets she arrived at the familiar door of her dorm, C6. It was one of the first places that she had to call her own. She still remembers the first day she got her own room, she almost couldn’t believe it. All her life she had been under watch from the scientists in the Institute, the idea of having privacy and her own room was an idea that had never crossed her mind, and just the notion of it seemed rather taboo to her. But after she started attending Hero High, she enjoyed the privacy, but at the same time it did take her quite a while to get used to the feeling of aloneness and solitude. Being under constant watch has its benefits, it gave Aria a sense security, if she had any ‘incidents’ or ‘episodes’ she knew there would be people who could tend to her and knew how to treat her.

She held her hand to the door and it slid open. The inside was exactly how she had left it from the previous semester. Her room was very traditional, large but it was still cozy and warm it was lined with beautiful tall wooden shelves full of books. Her large king sized four posted bed was perfectly made, the semi-sheer curtains were drawn making it look very inviting. Next to her bed was a large desk with two stacks of books, they were neatly stacked from the previous year along with several papers. Next to the desk was an easel with a large closed sketch book among some blank canvases. Opposite of the entrance door was a wall entirely of glass, a window to the outside and a large sliding glass door that led outside onto the terrace that gave her an excellent high view. On the terrace was some very soft and comfortable furniture under an awning including ottomans, lazy chairs, and even a large bed-like fixture that Aria occasionally used for nighttime studying or lazy naps during warmer days. A fountain was on one side of the terrace that also doubled as a shallow pool, perfect to soak weary feet in or a great place to relax and listen to the sound of the running water. A similar fountain was in her room as well but more as a decoration and as a special request that the Institute had made to the school to have installed. The sound of calm running water, like a fountain, was something that Aria had always loved and something that kept her calm and serene.

Aria walked to her nightstand and gently pulled open the shelf. She slid her small pack off and took out the small metal box, roughly the size of a traditional lunch box. It was completely unmarked with the exception of the Institute’s logo laser etched on top of the box. She pressed a series of hidden buttons that had no feedback, impossible to open unless they knew what it was and was looking for. The box emitted a hissing noise as the top rose a few inches and the right side of the box gently ejected and opened with a gentle hiss, a cold white fog creeped out the box. She slid the contents of the box out until it was stopped by the internal mechanism. She set it aside on the bed and opened a similar, but larger container inside the shelf of the night stand and began transferring the contents of the smaller box into the container in the night stand. The contents of the small box were filled with three dozen sterile glass vials full of an ink-like black liquid.

She filled the container in the nightstand with the vials. Aria took out the last thing inside the smaller container, it was a strange looking device, roughly in a triangular shape with two corners that had circular receptacles that can fit a vial in each of the receptacles. Aria pressed two buttons on the sides of the device and a long thin needle shot out of the third corner of the device with a quick hiss. It came out of a smaller closed hole that would open for the extending needle. She looked at the device with cold eyes before pressing the buttons again and the needle retracted. She put the device next to two other identical looking devices inside the nightstand but not in the case. She closed both metal cases and placed the smaller box on a lower shelf of the nightstand.

Amalia just replied with a short "Yup," to Drake with his suggestion to play the card game again someday. She gathered her luggage, and started to make her way out of the submarine together with the other Bronze and Silver students through the main door of the underwater transport. She made her way towards the Bronze tier group and the adjustment advisers that had been assigned to help her tiers students, as most of them were newcomers. Students were told to either go to the cafeteria to eat or to go to their dorms to settle and then do which ever that the student didn't chose to do first. Amalia chose to go to her dorm to leave her bags and then go and eat, so that she didn't have to drag her luggage to and from the cafeteria. She watched Adrian b-line his way to the cafeteria. Wait, did he even know where it is? Eh.. It's not hard to find, so he'll probably manage..

Amalia looked around the group of students trying to find Drake to tell him about her plans. Luckily it didn't take long to find the dark brown and scruffy haired boy, and Amalia approached him. She quickly checked her emails on her phone to try and see what dorm she was actually going to live in, which was dorm number 22.
"Hey Drake. I was planning on leaving my bags at my dorm and go get something to eat,"

Drake found the luggage drop-off, grabbing his two bags. The first bag he had was a rather large backpack, more suited for outdoor wilderness backpacking than school level backpack. It seemed like it was filled to the seams with whatever that Drake needed for living at Hero High. His second bag was a school backpack. It was also filled to the brim with his stuff. Drake put on the backpacking backpack first, clipping it in and making sure it was comfortable. It probably wasn't too long of a hike to the Bronze dorms, but you never knew. After all, from how they were treating the Bronze students so far Drake wouldn't be surprised if the Bronze dorm was all the way across the island. Having collected his bags, the new student took a moment to look around and take in the view he had of the island. A nice breeze blew through his hair as the sun warmed his exposed skin. This was... actually a pretty nice place.

Drake was brought out of his thoughts by a familiar voice. Drake nodded, giving Amalia a thumbs up.
"Sounds cool, since I'm not quite sure where the Bronze dorms are anyway. Lead on, viking lady!" Drake said with a smile. The teen dug around in his pocket for a moment before finding the piece of paper with his dorm number on it. Twenty two, huh? Drake hoped that whoever his roommates were, they were okay. It would suck if he got stuck with a pair of jerks...

Ajax’s new dorm suite was exactly how he had requested it, the clean sleek lines of the furniture projecting an image of calming organization, everything had a purpose. Along the left hand side of the room imbedded shelves dotted the otherwise smooth walls. Upon each shelf sat specifically organized assortments of books with the occasional nicknack thrown in to break the perfection. Nestled into the far corner of the room was a metallic alcove with a thick blast-door, the space within barely large enough for Ajax to stand within. The Energy Regulation and Acclimatization Module or ERAM for short, a device of his own creation designed to help him break through his current energy plateau by forcing him to absorb large amounts of energy, triggering a flare-up and doing his best to contain the new energy level. If he proved unsuccessful the chamber prevented his excess energy from blasting a hole in the side of the building however should Ajax prove able to contain the new level he would increase the output the following day and repeating the process.
The rest of his room was by comparison generic, his contemporary dining table had had to be pushed up against one wall to make room for the ERAM, while Ajax had thrown down a bean bag on the balcony outside for his meditation of a morning and night.

It wasn’t long until an automated announcement played from various speakers across the island
“Attention all staff and students, opening assembly will begin in 15 minutes in the auditorium, students are reminded that this is a formal event and will require full dress uniforms. Your on-time arrival is crucial to the running of this event. Do not be late!
Thank you”

Ajax couldn’t help but smile as he made his way into the auditorium, the seats reserved for gold tier students were all front and centre, directly in front of the stage. As opposed to being herded into the wings like the silver students or dumped up the back of the building like the bronze students. He took a seat in the second row, his new gold id badge resting on the left breast of his formal jacket.

‘This is it I guess, the start of my time in the big leagues’.

As the last of the students took their places, an otherwise average looking man took to the stage, Hero High’s new principle, The Metal Manipulation hero Orion. His mere presence silencing the last murmurs of the crowd,
“Welcome heroes of the future to a new Semester here at Hero High. As many of you may already have realised, I am not Principle Solaris. She has decided to retire from the position to focus her efforts toward the establishment of her own Hero Agency. My name is Orion, I’ll be in charge from now on. Now the first order of business, effective immediately the student mentor ship program has been postponed until next semester. We simply do not hav the necessary staff time to facilitate the program. As a replacement for this program we have decided to bring forward the practical training module. So once you have all completed your Tier orientations, you will all be headed off with your tiers to your practical training expeditions. Bronze tiers you will be headed to Isle Nocturne for your bronze boot camp, you will be worked well beyond your limits in order to really kickstart your development. Silver students you all will be headed back to the mainland for a while to complete the Silver peaks challenge, check in with your head teacher Knight-Light for more information. Finally Gold Tier, after last years... complications... in New York. You’ll be headed across the gulf toward Las Islas De Oro. You all will be working as full time heroes for a while. It’s a new requirement for your Hero Certificates. Well that’s enough from me. Everyone back to your dorms, your profile tests start first thing in the morning” the pro-Hero wandered back and forth across the stage as he spoke much like a tech CEO or a Ted Talk.

Adrian sat in the middle of the auditorium bored out of his mind. He managed to find the cafeteria but before he could indulge he was called to some stupid meeting. he sat there numb to Orion's words except for the words "boot camp". the moment he was given the chance to leave the booked it back to the cafeteria. this time he swiped food as quickly as possible. with his main goal completed Adrian decided to head to dorms like he was told to. He had to search up his phone to figure where he's supposed to go. Apparently it was... bronze twenty-two. With his low expectations of what a bronze dorm is supposed to look like he finds the dorms quite easily. He kicked open his room, noticing it was kinda spacious with multiple beds, including a bunk bed, Adrian started moving stuff around to give more to his style.

The assembly had gone on for significantly less time than expected, leaving over an hour before the Tier Orientations were set to begin. The students all made their way out of the auditorium and scattered, Ajax made a byline for the Gold Tier Dorms finally free to change out of the restrictive Formal Uniform. Opting to don a pair of black jeans, a simple white shirt and of course his long sleeved Hero High Long-Coat.
Happy with his new outfit, Ajax took the elevator to the Gold Tier common area to wait for his peers and new head teacher to arrive.

Drake had cut it close. He had barely enough time before the announcements to put is luggage in Room 22 before throwing on his formal wear uniform. Say what you want, Drake thought it was pretty swanky. He didn't even have time to process the fact that he was bunking with Amalia. With that, he had rushed to the auditorium and made it just in time for the announcements. The new guy in charge, one named Orion, gave a rather quick speech breaking down what was going to happen. It sounded like the bronzes were going to be sent to an island to train. Drake felt pretty okay with that, to be honest. He needed to get stronger, and to fully understand if there was a way to consciously use his power. If he really did have one, like they said.

But seemingly as soon as it had started, the speech was finished. Students began to get up and walk around, and it was at that moment, Drake realized... Amalia was no where in sight. Well, there goes his guide for the island. Amalia... Drake wasn't quite sure how he felt about rooming with her. It was going to be a bit strange, bunking with a girl. Heck, it was going to be a bit strange bunking with people again! Drake got up, brushing some dust off his jacket before making his way out of the auditorium. Looking around, Drake had a second realization. He had no idea where the Bronze dorms were.

Drake wandered the campus for a few minutes, trying to get some bearings. While it was nice to walk around the place he was going to be living, he would have preferred to have done that in his casual wear uniform, at least. Coming out of his thoughts, Drake turned a corner to find himself looking at a rather interesting sight. A large, beautiful resort-like building stood near the beach. What the... did that building belong to Hero High? It was certainly on campus, and Drake could see students in the distance in and around the building. His curiosity piqued, Drake made his way to the entrance of the Gold Dorms.

Though the assembly was short, Aria was relieved to hear that the mentor-ship program was postponed. The new principle was a surprise but nothing that really concerned Aria. After the assembly she flew back to her dorm to change into her usual Gothic clothes and reemerged into the Gold Tier common room. “Hello, there, I don’t recognize you, are you new?” Aria asked surprised to see a new student in the common room that she didn’t know as there were only so many Gold Tiers.

Aisha checked around her room. The furniture was grand and expensive. Not to mention, they rarely showed obvious signs of usage. That was due to her cleaning habits, and the fact that she just didn't use everything often. The only areas that showed signs of usage were her training area, the many bookshelves crammed into any open space against the walls, and her kitchen area. She did, of course, use her bed plenty. But, she always made it so that it looked as if it hadn't been used. Soon the speaker boomed, and she started to make her way to the auditorium.

She stared at the new principal as he gave his speech. Her eyebrow raised for a moment when he announced that the student mentorship program was canceled she let out a tiny sigh of relief. Truthfully, she hadn't been looking forward to such a program. He continued and explained that the Tiers were separating and doing different actions. Soon, the assembly was done, and Aisha made her way to her dorm. She didn't mind wearing the formal uniform, she had worn far more formal clothing before, but it did some to restrict her power.

After changing into her normal attire, white shorts, cropped pastel pink top, and a long-sleeved school jacket tied around her waist, she opened her balcony door. From strategically cut holes in the back of her shirt, two dove wings emerged. They were enlarged to fit her body and carry her weight. She closed the door and jumped down, seconds passed before she flapped her wings. A delighted giggle emerged as she flew to the entrance. The feeling of flight always gave her a tiny reprieve, one she appreciated greatly. As she landed, the wings retracted back into her body. She tightened the coat wrapped around her waist, one that had miraculously stayed wrapped around her waist during the flight. As she looked up, she realized a brown-haired male was standing there. "Oh, hello," she said as she looked down and continued to straighten her clothes. As she finished she looked back up, waiting for a reply.

Drake looked up at the Gold Dorm building. At a close distance, it was larger than he had thought. The scruffy haired teen could see through some of the windows a very finely decorated area, giving the whole place the look of an upper class hotel. Classy. Still not realizing this place was the Gold Dorm, Drake was about to walk in when the sound of a flapping of wings caught his attention. Suddenly, a blonde girl with wings flew out of the building, landing right next to Drake and acknowledged his presence.
"Whoa... Cool..." Drake muttered, watching as the girl's wings seemed to shrink and disappear. What sort of power was that? Was that just wings? The blonde girl looked back up at Drake expectantly, and Drake realized he had kind of zoned out staring at her wings as they had disapepared.

"Oh! Uh, hi!" Drake said, straightening up. He adjusted his formal wear jacket, smiling at Aisha.
"That's a really cool power you have there, growing wings like that." Drake said. He looked back over at the finely constructed building before back at the blonde. "In fact, a lot of the stuff here is really cool. It's almost overwhelming. I'm Drake, by the way."
Drake extended a hand to Aisha to shake.

After the assembly speech, Leon sighed and went back to his Silver tier dorm to get into his more comfortable uniform that didn't have to be as formal. The fact that he had to work so hard to look nice didn't bother him too much but would rather have a more comfortable style of fashion, he sat down on his bed and looked at his phone to see if he got any messages, the thought of the Silver Peaks challenge invaded his mind, while he was somewhat nervous, most of himself was eager to let loose with his powers and see everyone else's.

Ajax looked up, breaking him out of his temporary daze. He had been fidgeting subconsciously with the thick bracers over his wrists.
“Oh sorry, yes, hi. I’m Ajax, yeah I’m new to Gold Tier, just moved up. And you are?...” Ajax trailed off hoping to start a proper conversation before the Gold Tier Head Teacher Aero-Spear arrived.

After the assembly, Delta slipped out of the auditorium and begun to run, shifting her density in order to leap bounds and bounds over the heads of her fellow students on her way to the Silver Dorms. Entering her dorm again she immediately changed out of her formal uniform and into a pair faded jeans, a simple brightly colored pink top, sleeveless variant of the Hero High Standard jacket and as always slipped on her pair of high tops. Wandering her way out of her room and into the common area, Emily-Jane had arrived before many of her peers, so to entertain herself hovered her way up to the roof of a nearby outbuilding and took a seat on the edge of the building to do some people watching as her peers meandered their way into the courtyard.

Aisha listened to Drake's talk as she reached forward and shook his hand. "Hello Drake, my name is Aisha," she replied. To be honest, she hadn't felt as if it was overwhelming, but she was born into a life of extravagance. "Why thank you," she replied, concerning her power. "It's a bit more than that," she continued to say, as her gaze traveled. She paused on the uniform, seeing that he was a Bronze Tier. Ah, so that's why he seemed a bit lost here. Perhaps he can provide me with an interesting opinion. "So what do you think about the information we were given at the assembly?" she asked, curiously as she directed her wandering gaze at Drake.

“Well, welcome to Gold Tier I guess. I am Aria Vovk. I’m sure you already know, there isn’t too many of us, we’re a rather tight knit community. It’s always nice to see someone new.” Aria smiled and bowed her head slightly. “Interesting bracers you have there, do they help you contain or control your powers?” Aria has seen similar devices back at the Institute in various shapes, sizes, and for many different purposes. She herself remembered that she had to wear a similar device when she was younger, though hers were designed more like high tech. hair berets. Aria smiled kindly at Ajax, intrigued at the new kid, despite that she is usually not the social type but meeting someone new was always fun, she was at the school to be more sociable above all else, so she figure she might as well try, and at the starting of a new year with someone new was the perfect opportunity.

Drake smiled as Aisha shook his hand. She had a good, firm handshake. As his mother always said, you could tell a lot about a person by their handshake. As Drake took back his hand, a thought occurred to him. Say... This might be a good opportunity for a practical joke. After all, it was highly doubtful that this girl knew what Drake's power was in the few moments they had met. As Drake withdrew his hand, a sinister grin spread across his face.
"Muahaha! You shook my hand! Now, your power is all mine!" Drake laughed in an evil, way over-the-top manner. But instantly he went back to his usual self, having second thoughts about the whole thing. "Eh... Sorry. Joking, joking. I couldn't resist."

"As for what I think about the assembly, well..." Drake paused, rubbing his chin as he thought back to the assembly. "Well, I do think it's a little strange how they split up the assignments, if I'm going to be honest. That guy, Orion... Well, I guess he's our headmaster or whatever, right? Orion said that the Bronzes were heading to a boot camp, Silvers were heading to the mainland to work on some sort of 'Silver Peaks' challenge, and Golds were off to another place to work as full time heroes, right?"
Drake paused a moment, a thoughtful look coming across his face before continuing.

"Now, this is my first year here, so I could be wrong. But the dorms are split up by how strong your power is, right? Even if the Golds are stronger, I don't know if the first year Golds would be ready to start as full-time heroes so soon. Then there's the thing with sticking third or fourth year Bronzes in the training camp when they might have more experience 'hero-ing' than first year Golds." Drake said to Aisha. His thoughtful expression disappeared, and he gave Aisha a cheeky grin. "Then again, this is just my first year. And I've only discovered that I have powers recently. So what do I know? Maybe I could be completely wrong about all this."

Ajax smiled back at Aria before glancing down at his bracers, unaware that he'd been fidgetting with the unconsciously.
"Oh these, well yeah. They're designed to help me channel my energy bi-flows. If I dont wear them then I risk damaging my arms trying to absorb high-energy sources. My powers centre around the absorbsion and redirection of energy, but rather seemingly surprising to some people is the that fact that the powers don't necessarily make me immune to those energy sources... Sorry I'm rambling, but enough about me, how about you whats your power?" Ajax cut himself off once he realised he was rambling once more

Amalia had barely made it in time to the auditorium and also somehow managed to get separated from Drake, even though they were together few moments ago. The new principal was a bit of a shock for the ginger haired student, as no one had informed about the head of school changing, but Orion seemed to fulfill his new the roll nicely. So Amalia and the other Bronze tier students were going to have some sort of a 'Boot Camp' whatever that was. Her vocabulary was decent, but from time to time she had to try and google translate some words, but she also double checked it by looking up synonyms or definitions of the mystery word to understand what it meant. However, judging from the new principals description of boot camp Amalia came to the conclusion that it was most likely some sort of a training camp.

As the assembly ended Amalia rose from her seat and made her way back to the Bronze tier dorms. First of all she wanted to change to her casual clothing and she also thought that Drake was probably able to find his way back to their dorm without any further difficulty. Come to think of it, it was quite lucky of the pair to get into the same dorm, but there was most likely also going to be a third student with them. Now if the third student happened to be Adrian, that would be some luck right there. She chuckled to herself at the slim chance of having the same three students that happened to interact with each other during the way here to also happen to be roommates. Amalia opened the door to her dorm to find Adrian moving furniture and other things around the room.

"Oh," slipped out of her mouth at the sight of her new room mate. Was this Drakes doing, with his super luck and all or was this just a coincident. Well, it didn't bother Amalia that much, as having some sort of acquaintances be your roommate is much better than having total strangers.

Aria grinned, happy and excited, “Wow, sounds like a pretty impressive power, seems like you can do a lot with it. Me? Well, I control gravity and how it can affect myself, other objects, and other living things in relation to everything else including the planet and other celestial bodies. You won’t really see me use my powers on any large scale, as you can imagine it’s quite dangerous to others and to the planet. It can cause major climate change and disasters if I’m not careful.” Aria took a seat on a nearby couch.

What she said has no actual backing in reality, but in virtual simulations ran by the Institute, large scale use of her powers have been recorded to be able to re-position or nullify the planet’s magnetic poles, in addition she was able to cause a gravitational collapse, or a black hole, which to Aria’s dismay, broke the simulation. Other interesting instances of her power recorded by the Institute includes creations of highly destructive gravity wells and the ability alter the physics of the local area causing certain rules and laws of physics to become nonsensical or simply broken. "Anyways, welcome to Gold Ajax, if you don't mind me asking, what took you so long to get into Gold Tier? By the sounds of it, you are quite powerful. I was placed into Gold Tier from the start, so I have no idea how to move throughout the ranks." Aria laughed sheepishly.

Ajax laughed awkwardly in response to the question
“Ah well, I was only a Silver for one semester, it was a mix of two reasons. First of all there weren’t any free spaces in Gold and the other reason was that I still hadn’t quite got a Handel of my powers yet. I used to be very static and uninventive about how i used my powers, while now I can do stuff like this” Ajax blasted energy from his palms lifting himself off the ground slightly before dropping back down. As his feet hit the ground a tall slender woman entered the room, the Gold Tier Head Teacher Aerospear.
“Alright Gold Students, listen up!...”

>—~TIME SKIP~—<
{The morning of the first day of the training camps}

The Gold Tier grading exam had been laborious to say the least, Ajax’s entire body rang out with a full ache as he hauled himself out of bed, taking a moment to allow his weary eyes to adjust to the increasingly bright light of the sunrise as it filtered through the shutters of Ajax’s room. Groggily the Gold Tier student wandered his way into his bathroom, stripping off before plunging himself directly into a frigid torrent of water; the water pressure, temperature control in the Gold Dorms was ridiculous even the pH of the water could be adjusted if desired.
The Arctic Shower did its job, violently flushing any remnants of drowsiness from Ajax’s mind, as he begun to towel himself off a gentle beeping and a slight hiss caught Ajax’s attention. The source of the gentle hissing, was the depressurization of ERAM, the module door slid open with a quiet creek of hydraulics as pair of metallic tubes slid outward from the devices walls, roughly at hand height.
Ajax made his way from the bathroom to ERAM shaking the last droplets of water from his still damp hair before slipping into the cold metal chamber as if it were a second skin. Grasping each of the tubes and taking a breath before speaking a single word clearly and quietly “Begin” immediately the door of the chamber slid closed as long arcs of electricity begun to jump from the walls of the chamber onto Ajax’s bare skin, the twin tubes slowly started to glow as they begun to heat up. Ajax could feel the energy running through his body now, his muscles spasming in response to the electrical surges. Time begun to blur as Ajax focused all his attention onto absorbing and containing the increasing energy levels within himself. After a time the electricity stopped, the door slid open once more and the twin tubes retracted back into the walls of the chamber. Ajax took a deep breath before stepping out of the chamber, slipping into his containment suit followed by his hero costume and making his way out to the Gold Tier Common Area to wait for the others. Before long his phone buzzed in his hand, *Notification: 1st Assessment grades posted* Ajax unlocked his phone and tapped his way through the various menus to view his assessment grades

Alexander James Xavier VII (Ajax)
Strength - 4
Speed - 3
Intelligence - 4
Power - 4
Technique - 4
Adaptability - 5

The adaptability grade was a great surprise to Ajax, a noticeable jump from his first assessment in Silver when he had barely scraped through with a 3.

{Delta}
Emily-Jane had hardly slept the night before, excited to finally have the opportunity to prove herself to her new peers, she’d instead spent the night repeatedly checking she had all the required materials to take with her for the Silver Peaks Challenge. Barely even noticing her phone going off as her marks for the first assessment tests were posted, by the time she finally noticed it, she was already late for her departure, grabbing her phone and her bag as she raced out the door so as to not miss the transport. She leapt bound to bound desperate not to miss out, finally clambering her way into the last transport.
“Sorry sorry, I’m here, I’m here” she gasped for breath before slipping into an empty seat. She finally caught her breath and opened her phone to view her grades

Emily-Jane Wilder
Strength - 3
Speed - 4
Intelligence - 3
Power - 2
Technique - 4
Adaptability - 4

The 2 in power was a bit harsh, Emily-Jane knew she deserved at least a 3. But that was a battle for another day.

Tyler had......barely made it to the assembly that was held when they had arrived, being so late trying to make his formal uniform a little more comfortable. The Gold had only heard the last few instructions about where they were going before it had ended. Luckily for him, he had to run the entire way back from the meeting to the dorm. Ty was amazingly fast. (He had apologized to Aerospear afterwards, not familiar with everything that was going on.)
His room, or more like suite, was exactly how he requested it. It was very open, with leather couches in one area, a mini fridge, and various assortments. He checked out the bathrooms, the bedroom, and the chamber he had requested. It was a perfect square room with metal lined walls, and the door to it had a 4-digit pass code which he set.
The next morning, he woke up groggily and like Ajax, took a shower. Nice and hot, the way he liked it. Tyler toweled himself off and attempted to comb his hair, but it just fell over in a messy blond pile. His hair was always uncooperative. As Tyler exited the bathroom fully dressed in dark grey sweatpants and a black sweatshirt with a Venom Dragon design, (one of his favorite electronic music artists) he unpacked all of his other things he had brought with him. Various posters, a picture frame, extra clothes and his starred possessions other than his beloved headphones: His own Electronic Music recording set.
He had saved up quite a bit of money back home for all of this gear, but it was worth the price for his dreams. His dreams were to become a world famous EM composer and make music for everybody, and had been practicing piano and keyboards for almost 8 years. For the lessons, he had his mom to thank.

Tyler took one of the suitcases and rolled it into the security room, which also (thankfully) was almost entirely sound proof. You would be able to hear the music from his room, but no others. Carefully unzipping it, he took out a very large stand up keyboard with lots of different knobs and buttons, a laptop, two medium size speakers, and a number o cords for connecting everything together. Tyler grinned as he took all of this out for a later time. He exited the room locking it, put his trusty headphones on, and headed downstairs to the Gold common area.

There, he spotted Ajax. ¨Oh, hey,¨ Tyler said scratching the back of his head, ¨Sorry I wasn't down here when everyone else was here. I got distracted by everything here....I mean its just so incredible. Its a good thing I caught the Gold teacher on the way out, so I am all caught up.¨

Tylers phone when off. He checked it out to find that grades were posted already.

Tyler Scott Bolt
Strength-5
Speed-4

Tyler grinned. The strength was no surprise.

Shay, unlike Tyler, was always there at all moments. He just hid in the shadows and the dark parts and watched. In a fight the darkness was your friend. At a school training supers, there one bound to show up sooner or later, and he wouldn't be the first one to take the hard way down.
He unpacked everything in his dorm, not even bothering to check the place out at all.
The next morning he woke up, got dressed in all black as usual, black jeans and black T-shirt. He knew that he had to go to some transports, and followed another silver to them, being unnoticed. Shadow slipped into one, and chose a corner in the back. His phone buzzed, seeing that grades were posted.

Shay-Unknown- Unknown

Strength-3
Speed-4
Intelligence-4
Power-4
Technique-3
Adaptability-2

Shay looked over the list and nodded. It was correct. Speed, power and intelligence were things that he excelled at. But if there was no dark matter to absorb- that was a clear problem in his power. He closed his phone and looked around at the other silvers, one girl was looking at her scores too.

>>> The Next Day <<<

Deet deet... deet deet... deet deet...

Drake's eyes slowly opened to the darkness of his shared dorm, switching off the alarm on his quietly chirping watch. The watch read 6:15 am. A perfect time to get up. Drake was regretting pretty much every decision right now. The plan had been formed yesterday, after the tests. Drake had always considered himself to be pretty athletic, but after watching how the other students completed their tests, Drake didn't have to wait for his test results to see that he had a lot of catching up to do. The main idea was to get up early and work out an hour, then right 30 minutes before bed, to slowly get stronger. But right now, his body felt sore and tired and his mind felt hazy. Still, he had to do this. As quietly as he could, Drake climbed down the ladder from the top bunk. It was a little strange, the two people he was rooming with. Strange that the school would have boys and girls room together, for one. At least Amalia was okay with it. It wouldn't be the first time Drake roomed with a member of the opposite sex in a platonic matter, but that was more out of necessity than... well, whatever reason the school had. Then strange because, well... Adrian was rather strange. But he didn't seem that bad, just a little eager.

Fumbling slightly in the darkness, Drake grabbed his water bottle and patted his 'Power Crew' poster before quietly exiting his dorm room. He had slept in his workout clothes to be ready, but he still felt like crap. Maybe next time he should ask Amalia and Adrian if they all wanted to work out as a group? Working out with others would probably help keep moral up. After all, misery loves company...

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
While the Gold Dorm had been super fancy, Drake had to admit he was starting to like the Bronze dorm. The forested area near the dorm building was a rather nice place to work out, and Drake spent his time running on the trails, doing pull-ups on tree branches, and trying to move heavy rocks. Working out, Stallone style. The music from his MP3 player made things a lot more bearable, but Drake still had to take constant breaks to regain his breath and stretch out.
"How the hell did Rocky Balboa and Purple Mask do it?" Drake muttered, taking another break and getting a drink.
Finishing his workout session and having a renewed sensation of soreness and exhaustion, Drake made his way back to the Bronze dorms. The dorms had a community bathroom (because of course), and Drake managed to snare a shower just as another Bronze was leaving. Having showered off, Drake grabbed some breakfast in the Bronze dining hall. It was about then that the phone supplied to him by the school went off. The results of his test were in!
Drake Kay Lanthorn
Strength - 2
Speed - 2
Intelligence - 3
Power - 1
Technique - 4
Adaptability - 4
Drake frowned. Really? A two on both speed and strength? C'mon, he didn't think he had done that bad! He wasn't sure how to feel about being labeled as smarter than he was athletic. And to be honest, the 1 in power made complete sense. He had only learned about having powers a few days ago. It was perfectly normal to score low in that portion of the test. But evidently, for not knowing what was with his power Drake had apparently utilized it well. Must've just been luck... Oh, wait.
