Nen is a technique used by living beings to manipulate their own life force. It's complex and very interesting for an anime power system. You must have basic experience in martial arts before learning nen. After having their aura nodes opened either manually or through contact with strong aura, one must master basic techniques to begin to grasp nen.
Ten, which is needed to control aura flow and keeping it from leaking from the body. This maintains vigor, slows aging, and protects from basic attacks. Zetsu, which suppresses aura and makes one nearly impossible to detect. Ren, which increases aura explosively and boosts physical attributes. And finally Hatsu, which is a personal expression of nen. Development of hatsu can allow the user to create their own nen ability.
This roleplay will take place shortly before the hunter exam, so most characters will know little to nothing about aura at the start.

Appearance: Wei is a tanned young man with a mostly shaved head, though short black hairs are visible. He stands at 6 feet and is fairly lean with a slim, solemn face and red eyes. He wears a traditional crimson changshan robe with red floral patters on the torso and leather tai chi shoes.
Personality: At a glance, Wei seems cold and apathetic. After devoting most of his life to martial arts, he lacks meaningful relationships with even his closest family. He is a perfectionist and very self conscious about his lack of social skills, which makes prone to apologizing profusely for the smallest of slip-ups.
Nen Ability: Protein
Protein is an enhancer ability which allows Wei to augment the keratin in his body, which accelerates the growth of nails, skin, and hair. He uses this to create razor sharp claws, tendrils, and enhance his skin's durability to a point exceeding most enhancers. By using transmutation his nen can mimic more nuanced forms of keratin, such as creating feathery wings to fly.
Backstory: Born the youngest in a very large and poor family, he originally took up martial arts to win tournaments and make money. He quickly fell in love with it and used it as a way to set himself apart from his many siblings. He was practicing in a shingen-ryu school in the city that held the hunter exams and decided to participate to test his strength.
Other: Skilled in hand to hand combat and has basic knowledge of aura due to his training in shingen-ryu kung fu.
