For the people who are healing others besides the 2 in the lead. Wouldn't it make more sense to hurt the characters who are in the lead over the characters who are lower? If you want your character to win it doesnt really make sense to go after someone who is losing, it makes more sense to go after the character who is the biggest threat to your character. Right?

Not really. For me, if Mudkip, Torchic or Charmander win I'll be happy. Mupkip and Charmander are doing pretty well without my heals, so my heals go to Torchic who is currently fourth. Cyndaquil might be lower at the moment, but it was a threat earlier on and so it will be until its taken down. That's how I see it anyway.
