Ask to Join Infection

Discussion Thread

Johto - Not long ago...

The region has suddenly changed.

The Pokémon Virus (AKA Pokérus), previously known as a very coveted condition that worked wonders on a Pokémon's training, has mutated.

The Virus started to affect the minds of the infected, making them go berserk and turning them into crazy fighting machines. The infected Pokémon attacked every non-infected lifeform on sight, be either human or creature. Pet Pokémon rebelled against their Trainers, Coordinators, Friends, etc.. Wild Pokémon attacked anyone unfortunate enough to pass by.

At first, the whole ordeal was treated as a non-issue. With authorities saying that '"Everything is under control. It is just a matter of time before we solve this situation."'. However, due to the highly contagious nature of the Pokérus and constant encounters between the infected and non-infected, the previously rare Virus managed to spread. After a drastic increase in their numbers, the infected decided to take the fight to their enemy.

It was at this moment that the non-infected knew all 'control' has been lost.

Buildings burned down and cries were heard as the infected raided city after city. The non-infected managed to put up a fight, but the Pokérus has made the infected stronger. In the end, they were defeated.

Johto - Two years later...

A giant, transparent dome made of some unknown, but indestructive material covered the desolated region, preventing anything or anyone of passing through.

Today marks exactly one year since Johto has been put under quarantine. The region has became some sort of 'Ecological Disaster Zone'. There are still non-infected in there. Some are just Civilians trying to survive. Some are Researchers doing their job in hopes of finding a cure, others are Police Officers and Nurses trying to help their fellows. Even the Military is there as the last line of defense.

However, all of them have the same ultimate goal: To destroy the BRAIN.

Cherrygrove City - Day 1
12:35pm

"Originally known as the 'Goldenrod Radio Tower', the BRAIN is a building which houses the center of the infection. The BRAIN sends altered radio waves to all of the Pokérus infected beings, making them go berserk." A soldier explained, showing a series of pictures of the Radio Tower in a big screen. The building, however, was covered with bits of some sort of pinkish red sludge, making it look like the whole structure was made of flesh. "Shut down the BRAIN and the whole infection body will fall along."

The soldier then sighed. "As simple as this sounds, however, the BRAIN is unreachable. There's some sort of protective barrier of unknown energy around Goldenrod City and we can't get past it." The screen then started to show pictures of Goldenrod City in bird view. The ravaged city was surrounded by a black force-field.

"To shut down that barrier, we must destroy all the NERVEs." The screen changed to show pictures of small buildings covered in some sort of black sludge. "Originally known as the 'GYMs', the NERVEs are buildings which holds the protective barrier around Goldenrod City. Inside the NERVE, there's the HEART." The screen then started to show pictures of the so-called HEART. "The HEART is a black blob of who-knows-what that holds the NERVE together and sends pulses of energy which attract other infected. Destroy it, and the NERVE will die." The screen then turned off.

"To sum it all up. Just destroy the HEARTS, to destroy the NERVEs, to destroy the BRAIN. Questions?"

"Sir, how did you get those pictures?"

"With plot devices, private."

"Plot wha-"

"Any more questions?"

"But wha-"

"No? Then good luck out there, people. Dismissed."

"Attention. Calling all volunteers." The voice of the Commander rang through the various speakers in the Safe Zone to whoever was willing to hear. "Within 5 hours, we are going to raid Violet City to destroy its NERVE. Whether you are a Soldier or a Survivor, all help is appreciated. The time to fight back has come."

-Carl

"Oh, crap... Oh, crap... Oh, crap..." Private Carl murmured to himself, walking back and forth whlie clutching his head in despair. "What I'm going to do now?" The soldier then started punching his own head. "Think, Carl. Think!"

Lost in his own stupor, Carl forgot that a helmet was protecting his head and punched a little too hard. An audible snap was the last thing the Private felt from his fingers before all sensations in his hand were replaced by pain. "OwOwOwOw! Who's the idiot who put that there?!" Holding his now sore hand, Carl sighed. "Aw, I need to get it back, but I cannot leave my post... I need help..."

-Blair
Lt. Blair jumped at the sound of the announcement, one arm still buried up to the elbow in her gear bag. Was it that time already?! Yanking her arm out and sending a packet of field rations to the ground in her haste, she checked her watch. Shit, I'm late. She had been ordered to head out before the general announcement was called, to ensure the route ahead was clear. Plucking the fallen ration from the asphalt and cramming it into the already overstuffed bag, she turned to secured it to Shingen, who was waiting obediently at her side. Then, without so much as a glance back at the barracks she was leaving behind, she swung herself up onto the arcanine's back and immediately urged him into a gallop with her heels.

They tore across the Safe Zone with more speed than she would have usually allowed within the compound. But as she was heading out beyond the wire, they could hardly berate her for it now. Absorbed in the thundering of Shingen's paws on pavement, she almost didn't hear the cry of pain issued nearby. Unfortunetly, she had heard and it wasn't a sound she could very well ignore, even if she was in a hurry. Searching for the source of the sound, her eyes fell upon a soldier nearby who was holding his hand as if in pain...and seemed to be talking to himself. With a sigh of exasperation, she steered her mount his way, knowing it was her responsibility to help...even if it was the last thing she wanted to do.

"Private!" Blair called out to him as Shingen approached the lad and slowed. "There a problem here?" She looked toward his hand questioningly.

"Ugh... Maybe I should ask for help in the public channel and-" Carl was so concentrated in his inner turmoil that he jumped when he heard someone suddenly call out to him, letting out a rather high pitched yelp. Turning around, he was quick to notice that he was adressed by a superior.

VERY superior, in fact.

Carl felt like an insect before this woman and her Arcanine's imposing posture and intimidating figure. Nervous, he bowed, instead of saluting. "L-Lieutenant!" Carl stuttered. "Y-Yes ma'am. I kinda have a problem. You see, Pokémon-powered generators are unreliable now with the Pokérus around. So, the high command ordered a mechanical power generator to be sent to this outpost. However, the convoy was attacked by the infected, and the gennie was destroyed. Now whatever remains of it is in the Route 30, spreading heavy metals everywhere, which are highly toxic." Carl explained. "The problem is: I lent one of my comic books to one of the convoy's squad members. He managed to make it here, but he dropped the book in there! Now, I can't get it back because I'm on guard duty here!" Carl dropped to his knees, pleading. All of his nervousness gone. "Please, you gotta help me! That volume is from a limited edition!"

The lack of salute she could be overlooked. Half the base personnel were civilians now so the formalities of rank recognition were few and far between as it was. But the nonchalance of his trivial request in light of the disastrous generator mission brought out her officer persona in full measure. “A book?! You’re worried about a book?”

Nostrils flared with indignation, Blair gestured casual at the base buildings behind her. “You realize we lost a man on that escort? The base may be facing power outages, security breaches ‘cause of that lost gennie, and you’re worried about a book?” Letting the full weight of her disgust be felt before continuing, she sighed. “I’m heading up that route anyway otherwise I wouldn’t bother… but I’ll keep an eye out for your book.”

“In the meantime,” she looked at him pointedly. “Get your priorities straight. We need minds on the job not in the clouds to keep this base safe.”

Carl's eyes teared up in joy after the Lieutenant said she would keep an eye out for his comic book, ignoring everything else she said. "Thank you, ma'am!" He quickly got up and bowed multiple times, an overly happy smile clearly visible through his balaclava. "I'll make it worth your time, I promise."

Carl then remembered something. Getting a gas mask from his bag, he offered it to the Lieutenant. "Here. The broken generator is polluting the air with heavy metals. So, you're probably going to need this. Maybe you could blow it up to make it stop leaking. Don't worry about the gennie, they'll bring another. As the General would say: '"We have reserves."' ...I wonder what he means with that, though."
