Johto: Travel and Battle

Umbreon followed him. Dakota, confused follow after the dark pokemon. She saw the mini family of Eeveelutions and decided to leave them be with her Umbreon. She walked a few feet away, and found a place to settle. She leaned her head back and slowly closed her green eyes.

Umbreon happily greeted each eeveelution with a friendly bark and her rings glowed as bright as they possibly could.

Umbreon noticed that Dakota was sitting out side.

He had somethings gently placed in his mouth.

He placed the objects next to her and nudged them forwards.

The first was a little sewn Umbreon plushie, the second was a mysterious golden gem on a black iron chain that glowed when he got close to it.

He barked playfully, hoping that she would accept these small tokens of friendship.

Dakota smiled at the gifts. "Thank you," she murmured while putting them safely in her bag. She wondered what the golden gem would do if she put it on Umbreon. As she thought she moved her gaze to her Umbreon, who was playing with the other eeveelutions.

Platinum had followed as well, and smiled at the adorable Eeveelution family. He looked Umbreon in the eyes as it compassionately looked to him.

After thinking for a bit, he understood what the dark Eeveelution wanted. Platinum reached for his waist, grabbing a pokeball. He pressed the center with his thumb, his own Glaceon coming out. The ice type looked around curiously, and spotted the other Eevee types.

Glaceon looked back and up to Platinum, as if to ask if she was allowed to play. Platinum happily nodded, and the blue Eevee went on to bark excitedly and play around with the other Eeveelutions, pawing them gently and rolling around with them.

Dakota pulled the ribbon out of her hair, wrapping it around her wrist. She brushed through her red hair with her fingers. Before just letting it fall to her shoulders. She took her jacket off and stretched out her arms. She then continued watching the Eevee family with a faint smile on her lips.

'Hey all of you guys settle down..." called a voice as a young man around, 15 or 16 came down a second flight of stairs,

He was wearing a sleeveless hoodie that was slightly frayed on on the ends.

He walked through the rolling mass of tails and legs and came to see Umbreon next to another Umbreon and a Glaceon.

Well looks like you made some new friends Umbreon he said as he ruffled the dark pokemons ears.

Then he realized that Dakota and Platinum were there.

"Hey... Um sorry about this place, and your probably wondering who I am." he said as he looked around sheepishly.

"See I try and help these guys whenever I can, but since I have school they run off and have adventures... But it seems that Umbreon has taken a liking to you two so if you would like to adopt him go for it! But if you do just rember to bring him back here every once and a while..." he said quietly.

Beck looked at his map and sighed. he was lost yet again, just his damned luck.
"Perhaps it's time to get a GPS..." The tall man said as he looked resignedly at his forest surroundings. It had been a few days since he had trailed off the main path in order to be more 'adventurous' and he had yet to find his way back to the main road again. Beck started rubbing his mask-covered eyes with exasperation, he really shouldn't have wandered off, especially when he had such a terrible sense of direction.

"I suppose I'll have to rely on my luck yet again," Beck said with a helpless smile. The genial trainer then packed up his map into his small travel pack and made his way through the dense foliage of the forest. Unknowingly heading towards Violet City.

Zeypher slowly made his way down route 36, since he knew where he was going there was no reason to rush. Suddenly Xavier chirped with excitement and flitted off into the woods. The little Natu peeped with a sense of urgency. Zeypher sighed as he gave chase. It was going to be a long day.

Beck barreled over as his legs were suddenly tackled by some kind of creature and landed face first into a puddle of mud. After lying in the mud for a few seconds, while sighing at his terrible luck once again, Sen propped himself up on his arm to get a good look at his assailant and came face to face with a small green bird.

"...A Natu?"

The little bird chirped with joy, hopping his way up to the strangers head, then laying down to take a nap. He gently held himself in place with his feet, like a strange little hat. Zeypher called for the Tiny Bird Pokemon, but the little thing didn't hear him. He was already fast asleep.

Meanwhile, just within hearing range, Zeypher was making his way through the dense undergrowth.

"God dammit! I just got out of the woods! Now I have to plunge right back in! This had better be good...."
Zeypher cupped his hands around his mouth and shouted.

"Xavier!"

Dakota noticed the stranger and stood up. She rubbed the back of her neck and looked at Platinum. "It's honestly up to him if he wants to help take on Umbreon, I already have one but if he wants one to go with Glaceon, then I guess we can adopt him."

Jacob arrived in Violet City, and his first thought was to head to the gym. He knew he had to visit the pokemon school, and Sprout Tower while he was there, but he had not fought a gym in nearly a month now, and he wanted to get back to work. He ran to the pokemon center, picking up his newly captured Ledian before heading to the gym.

The actual building itself was unimpressive, Jacob thought. But once he entered, he was amazed. The ceiling was so high, apparently for the training of the flying type pokemon the gym specialized in. Any pokemon that could fly would have a strong advantage here. Of course, Ledian would still be at a type disadvantage.

The Gym Leader, Faulkner, stood with confidence as he and Jacob prepared for their battle. He watched as the flying-type gym leader released his first pokemon; a Pidgey. Jacob thought for a moment before calling out Ledian. The bug-type appeared in front of Jacob, turned back, and smiled.

“Alright, Ledian, let’s do this. Use silver wind!”

“Pidgey, use gust!” Ledian fired several blades of wind at Pidgey, but the pokemon sent a powerful gust of wing, stopping the attack. “Now use quick attack!”

“Ledian, use swift!” Ledian fired stars of energy at Pidgey, but the pokemon was too fast, dodging Ledian’s and slamming into the bug pokemon. Ledian was dragged across the ground, and let out a cry as it came to a stop. “Ledian,” Jacob shouted as his pokeon stood. “Use bug buzz!” Ledian released red sound waves from his head, enveloping Pidgey, who dropped to the ground in pain. “Great job Ledian, now use swift!” Ledian fired stars at Pidgey again, but the bird pokemon flew up in the air too quickly. “Ledian, follow Pidgey!” Ledian flew into the air after the bird pokemon.

“Pidgey, use quick attack!” Pidgey turned and fired itself forwards at Ledian.

“Ledian, stop!” Ledian stopped in his tracks as Pidgey came flying towards him. “Now use comet punch!” Ledian swung his arms at Pidgey as the bird pokemon approached, but the attack was too strong; Ledian was sent to the ground once more. Struggling to stand, Jacob gave another order. “Use Bug Buzz!” Again, Ledian released red waves that hit Pidgey, forcing the pokemon to land and cover its ears. “Now, use swift!” The attack hit Pidgey sending it to the ground, unconscious. “Great job!” Jacob said to Ledian, and Faulkner recalled his fallen pokemon.

“Let’s go, Pidgeotto!” The gym leader commanded as Pidgeotto appeared in front of him.

“Alright, Ledian, use bug buzz!” Ledian prepared once again to use the attack.

“Pidgeotto, us quick attack!” Pidgeotto was too fast, and slammed into Ledian before Ledian could release his attack.

“Ledian, use silver wind!”

“Pidgeotto, use air slash!” The two attacks collided, but Pidgeotto’s was more powerful, and destroyed the silver wind attack, blowing into Ledian and knocking him to the ground. “Now, Pidgeotto, use peck!” Pidgeotto’s beak glowed blue as the pokemon hit the fallen Ledian, sliding the pokemon across the floor unconscious. Jacob recalled Ledian, and thought about his next move.

“Come on out, Heliolisk!” Heliolisk appeared beside Jacob prepared for battle. “Alright, Heliolisk, use Parabolic Charge!” Heliolisk’s frills opened as the pokemon fired a ball of electricity into the air. The ball flew up towards Pidgeotto.

“Pidgeotto, dodge it!”Pidgeotto flew to the side easily dodging the attack. “You’ll have to use something faster than that to catch Pidgeotto,” Faulkner bragged. Jacob smiled. As the ball of electricity reached the ceiling, it released a charge of electricity that his the center of the field, then another and another until the whole field was covered with smoke from the electric attack. When the smoke cleared, Pidgeotto lay on the ground, unconscious. Jacob had won.

Platinum stood and greeted the stranger, and apologized for randomly showing up. He then began rubbing the back of his neck when he mentioned adopting Umbreon.

"Well, I do have Glaceon...and she's already quite the handful...and I'd hate to have to take Umbreon and just place him in a PC...." He admitted, feeling a bit guilty.

The Pokeathlete already had his hands full with his team, and training them was hard enough, so taking in a whole other Eeveelution wouldn't only be hard for him to get used to, but also for his team.

(Pokemon can only talk to pokemon, so he is growling in what ever language pokemon speak, so humans can't understand it.)

The Umbreon sighed quietly as he walked out side, and climbed a little higher into the tree and stared at the moon angrily.

"Just my luck, why did I have to be the one that they experimented on, why did It have to be an Umbreon, it could of been another Eevee, how come no one even has time to adopt me, how come there always "busy" or "I'd hate to box him" I just want to go on adventures, have fun, not be chained to this rock that I call this house!!!" he barked and growled angrily.

He never had any real freinds, and he thought that the other Umbreon was nice, but he guessed that nothing would ever work out for him...

The young man sighed again as he watched as Umbreon walked out.

"I don't know what's wrong with him, I mean one day he'll find a trainer, and they won't adopt him, so he just goes up there growls and barks and then starves him self, I mean I try to make him eat but he either refuses, or he will just puke it up later..." He said sadly scuffing his sandal on the warm rug.

Dakota frowned as he moved away. Her Umbreon stopped playing and watched him. She slowly approached him. Dakota turned towards the stranger, "Me and Platinum here are traveling to where Battle Frontier is being held, Umbreon can travel with us. He won't have a pokemon ball, and neither of us will own him. We'll just treat him like he's part of our teams." She paused. "And once Battle Frontier is over, he can choose whether he would want to travel with me or Platinum." The red-head planned on separating herself from the other trainer soon. She did not want to form a bond with any human. "I know it's not what he wants but it'd be like he was one of ours. He'll still be registered as a wild pokemon but we won't treat him like one."

Umbreon rubbed her head against the other dark eeveelution's shoulder. "Please don't get upset," she barked quietly. She kept herself from being pushy but didn't want to make herself seem like she's straying away either.

Platinum nodded. He agreed, and it sounded like a good idea. Platinum caught on to when she talked about the Umbreon choosing who he would want to go with, post-battle frontier. He figured she meant that she was going to leave afterwards, and he understood that. He definitely wasn't going to be pushy and force himself with her. It was actually refreshing for him to hear someone not constantly following him.

"Yeah, that sounds like a good plan." Platinum agreed. Although he felt incredibly guilty, hearing that the pokemon starved itself. He could only imagine what the Umbreon thought about itself.

"He could always travel with us, I just don't have any space for another pokemon - it would just be hard for my pokemon to get used to someone new, and I always do what's best for them." Platinum continued. "But We would be more than happy to take him with us."

Beck heard a distant voice calling and looked up at the Natu that decided to take a nap on his head. It seemed the Natu was not without a friend and had given Beck a possible way out of the woods. It's just that he wished the little bird hadn't given him a face full of mud to go along with the welcomed opportunity.

Having had enough of lying on the ground, Beck carefully stood up on his feet with the Natu still sleeping on his head and headed off towards the distant voice. After a minute of navigating through the thick undergrowth and rough thorn bushes, Beck tumbled out of the forest and looked up to see civilization spanning out before him. Beck then turned his head to the side and saw a person looking straight at him.

Feeling a bit awkward at the sudden attention of another person, Beck slowly raised his hand in greeting and
acknowledged the young man. "...Nice to meet you?" Unfortunately, Beck didn't notice the mud that was still caking his face and made the encounter even more awkward.

Zeypher paused, surveying the scene before him. Here stood a very tall man, caked in mud, with Xavier napping on his head. Zeypher cautiously waved hello.

"Uh......hi?"

Zeypher reached up to lift Xavier off the mans head, but the little bird had a firm grip, not letting go, even if he had to take the stranger's scalp with him.

"Ugh......" Zeypher shook his head. "We'll have to wait until he wakes up." Zeypher gave the man a broad smile. "My name's Zeypher, and this little bugger," Zeypher said as he pointed at the Natu, "is Xavier. Might I ask what he is doing on your head?"

Beck scratched his head embarrassed. "Your Pokemon found me in the middle of the forest and... well...decided to take a nap on my head." The masked trainer looked helplessly at young man that stood before him. "However, I'm afraid I don't know the reason why..." Beck then extended his hand for a shake with an amiable smile and introduced himself. "My name is Beck by the way. It's a pleasure to meet you Zeypher."

Zeypher smiled and shook Beck's hand.

"The pleasure is all mine! Especially since you brought my little friend back to me." Zeypher snapped his fingers. He reached into his backpack and pulled out a pecha berry. He waved it beneath the little bird's beak. As Zeypher expected, Xavier woke up immediately, eager to get a bite of the berry. He hopped off of Beck's head and onto Zeypher's, where he could nap and eat the berry.

"There! Problem solved!" Zeypher smiled, stroking the little bird, causing it to puff up. He looked back to Beck.

"So, what brings you to Johto?"

Beck bemusedly watched as the bird Pokemon was pampered and replied to Zeypher's question with an open smile.

"I came here from the Hoenn region to visit an old friend of mine in Violet City." Beck then scratched the nape of his neck in embarrassment as he recounted his tale. "But I'm afraid I got lost in the woods while I was trying to explore the area..." The tall trainer then looked at Zeypher with curiosity.

"What about you Zeypher? What brought you to this region?"

Zeypher smiled at Beck's question. This would take some explaining. Zeypher thought about how to respond, then decided to give Beck to simple answer.

"I was in Kanto when some friends of mine asked me to check something out in Johto for them." Zeypher smiled. Xavier, who had finished his berry, playfully pecked at Zeypher's hair. Zeypher reached up, picking up the Tiny Bird Pokemon, setting him on his shoulder.

The Umbreon looked at the other one with a half hearted smile, and replied quietly...

"But how can I not be sad? You have no idea what it is like to be experimented..."his rings glowed a faint blue color, indicating sadness.

He heard what the two trainers said with his acute hearing.

He smiled softly as he nuzzled her for a few seconds and barked again a little happier "Well I think I found a reason not to be sad!"

His rings glowed a faint white glow, his natural color of his rings, as it changed to a soft neon yellow.

Dakota nodded and looked back at the two Umbreons'. She watched them before returning her gaze back to the stranger. Umbreon smiled and pawed the other's shoulder. She then took off back to the others, she glanced back to see if the other Umbreon was following.

He followed silently, padding after his first, and only friend.

They walked back into the warm room.

"Well il miss Ya buddy" he said to his Umbreon as he rubbed in between his ears.

Beck nodded at Zeypher's curt answer, not prying any further.

"I see. well it was very nice meeting you Zeypher, but I'm afraid my business is rather urgent and am sorry to cut our conversation short." Beck gave the young trainer a gentle smile. "I wish you and your Pokemon the best of luck in your travels." The tall trainer then looked at the small bird perched at Zeypher's shoulder and gave a smile of gratitude.

"And thank you, little one, for helping me find my way out of the forest." And with that, Beck gave a short wave to the duo in farewell and rushed off, unknowingly travelling in the opposite direction of where he had intended to go - while resolving himself not to be sidetracked in his endeavor.

It wasn't long, however, before the masked trainer found something that once again distracted him from his original task.

"Now isn't that a rather large willow tree?" Beck curiously mumbled to himself. "...Interesting." The trainer then promptly headed towards the towering tree that stood off in the distance.

The Umbreon smelt something odd... Like human...

He growled softly his rings glowing an aggressive purple color as wisps of shadow curled from his paws as he confronted the stranger...

The first thing that Beck did when he saw the aggressive Umbreon was to hold his hands up in surrender.

"Whoa whoa, calm down there buddy." The trainer said in a placating manner. "I'm not here to do anything, I was just curious about this tree here." Beck then gave a an apologetic smile to the Umbreon as he suddenly realized something. "This is your home right? I'm sorry for intruding on your territory, I didn't mean to do so." The tall man then got on his knees in order to get closer to the dark-type Pokemon and reached for the knapsack on his back.

After coming within a safe distance, Beck pulled out a Pecha berry from one of the outer pockets of his bag and offered it to the hostile Pokemon. "Here. Please take this as a sign of my goodwill."

The Umbreon's color changed from blood red, to a less aggressive shade of blue, as he snatched up the berry, and trotted off to give the berry to Dakota's Umbreon.

He turned around and gestured for Beck to follow, but too keep his distance.

Umbreon turned and smiled as she saw the other dark pokemon. But it soon disappeared when she saw the stranger. She flicked her ears and narrowed her eyes on him. Dakota noticed her eeveelution's sudden tension and turned. Her green gaze spotted the stranger and she narrowed her eyes as well. "Who are you?" She asked bluntly.

Platinum watched as his Glaceon energetically played around with the Leafeon and other eeveelutions, he also noticed the Umbreon heading back to the group, and another trainer, quite tall, on his knees. Platinum saw Dakota had also noticed the trainer traveling behind the dark type.

"I think...Umbreon found another friend home..."

Platinums light blue gaze was much softer, looking a bit more friendly, but also vulnerable. The top pokeathlete decide to greet the trainer as well.

"Who might you be?" The 15 year old asked, a bit more curious sounding.

Dakota turned fully around, some of her hair getting in her face. She pushed it away. She crossed her arms over her chest and stared at the stranger. Her green eyes were blank but showed some unsureness. Umbreon didn't eat the berry right away, she kept staring at the tall man. She felt her fur prickle up.

Beck scratched his head sheepishly and gave an embarrassed grin. "I'm just a regular stranger who managed to stumble his way into an Umbreon's territory I'm afraid." He then stood up and introduced himself for the second time that day.

"The name is Beck. It's a pleasure to meet you all."

Once he said his name Umbreon relaxed. She gave the other eeveelution a thank you look before quickly eating the berry. Dakota huffed, "We should get going," she mumbled to Platinum. She wanted to get on the road and get to their destination soon. She went over to the tree she was sitting at and grabbed her bag. She pulled the ribbon from her wrist and put a end of it between her teeth. With both hands she put her hair up, then quickly tied the ribbon around it.

Platinum smiled.

"I'm Platinum, and this is Glaceon." He replied, introducing himself quickly.

The white haired trainer turned to Dakota, nodding. They had been there long enough, and he did want to get to Olivine finally, but was sidetracked by the Eevees. After allowing his Glaceon to give her farewells to the other eeveelutions, the pokeathlete returned the ice type to her pokeball.

Beck watched young woman leave with perplexed look on his face and turned towards the Umbreon in confusion. "...Was it something I said? Did I do something wrong?" The man then sighed tiredly and rubbed his eyes in exhaustion.

"Today is just not my day huh?" Beck then heard something growl and realized that the Umbreon before him was still hungry. He smiled at the Pokemon. "You're hungry huh? Well I have just the thing for you little friend." Beck then proceeded to pull out yet another Pecha berry out of his bag and placed it before the bipedal Pokemon.

"Bon appetit."
