My team is absolutely nothing worth writing about, since it consists only of Foxy the Braixen and Sparta the Dunsparce, plus two Pickup Pokemon (Zoon the Zigzagoon, who I am semi-seriously raising, and an unnamed Bunnelby who I'm not). Instead, have some impressions:

1) PROFESSOR 80s HAIR!

2) I am ironically amused about the fact I chose the darkest of the three options for my character (black hair, brown eyes, brown skin) and yet in the game itself, she comes out the exact same skintone that I am in real life. If I were of an ethnicity with dark brown or Black skin, I think I'd be quite offended. (Note: I am not saying that people of those ethnicities should be offended, just that I would be if I were.)

3) Similarly, the options for the hairstyling suck. You can have four lengths of hair and four hair colours, but you can't have, say, a different long-haired hairstyle. Just the one with HUGE AMOUNTS OF HAIR which reminds me of Iris. Why can't you have neatly-styled long hair? Or anime-coloured hair?

4) I love the way that this is our first opportunity to actually customise our characters at all, and here I am bitching that there aren't enough options! This is why we can't have nice things!

5) I spent so long last night screaming "ZIGZAGOON!" at the extreme cuteness of such creatures that my husband accused me of "sounding like the knickerbocker man" .

6) Soft-resetting to get a female starter is a pain in the arse.

You get your first starter after a Tedious cut-scene in which your "friends" try to give you a nickname, with no opportunity to save after they've named you. You get your second, Kanto, starter after battling Professor Sycamore, with no opportunity to save after the battle.

Also, because I'm sick and forgetful right now, I somehow hadn't saved in 40 minutes by that point, which felt like far too long to reset. Now I'm slightly regretting it.

7) Yes, I know Dittoes are a thing in this game. That's not the point.

The music is surprisingly awesome.

9) Pikachu's anime cry is creepy as fuck. All of the other Pokemon still have wavesynth-beep noises, and there's Pikachu sounding like a real creature. Fighting one makes me feel guilty. Making one faint makes me feel even worse . Do not like. Do Not Want.

Fanservice generation indeed. Pikachu, instead of having its old sound effect, says "Pika pika," and the like, and seems to have more animations than the other Pokemon as well (although that part might be my imagination). Somehow, I doubt Pichu and Raichu got the same treatment...

Torchic get!
At long last! I have a Speed Boost Torchic... and it's male, meaning unless the breeding mechanics were changed, I can't breed more Speed Boost Torchics. Somehow, I think the gender is fixed for that very reason. I mean, the free Skill Link Minccino you get in White 2/Black 2 is always male, so there wouldn't be a bunch of powerful Skill Link Cinccinos all over the place, not that it worked; Even though the odds are against it, once someone gets a female Skill Link Minccino, they will be mass bred, traded away, and spread like wildfire. Anyway, I guess I'll hold off on using my Torchic until I can properly EV train it.

My current plan is to have a roster of about 12 Pokemon who get switched in and out, so I have a Kalos-only team and a general favourites team. I didn't actually mean to have a Zigzagoon or a Dunsparce in my permanent team, it just happened due to their extreme cuteness.

So sometimes on my playthroughs I end up having a really empty team because I'm not finding anything that I want to train, so I'll have like a 3 Pokemon party and be at the 5th gym or something. And other times I find way too many Pokemon that I want to train and don't know what to do with myself. This is definitely a case of having too many that I want to train.

So I really wanted some awesome Pokemon on my team that would sweep everything and be my best. But in life and in Pokemon things do not always work out how we want and for some reason my best Pokemon is Farfetch'd.

My thoughts going into this was a Kalos-only run, meaning I'd only use the new Pokemon. Mawile is on the team because 1)Fairy is new and I need to test it, and 2)Steel/Fairy is bloody amazing. Heliolisk surprised me. It was a replacement because my Skiddo was falling very far behind, and while it too was fairly underleveled, it easily held its own against Pokemon 10+ levels higher than it! I highly recommend using this thing.

Tyrantrum was well worth the wait - it is an absolute monster. Aegislash is pretty cool, especially considering how amazing Honedge was. Not gonna lie, I never even used Doublade - I evolved it to Aegislash the moment it became Doublade. Greninja is pretty cool. Talonflame is awesome. Once I pick up a decent Fire move for it, I'm sure it'll be even better.

Really surprised how I came to keep Stripes though, she was supposed to be the HM slave, but she's one fast pokémon, and headbutt has rarely let me down when I needed it. All the others are on there due to hype and such. I always seem to love the ones that get revealed first.

I'm kind of wondering just what it is that I do in every Pokemon game that makes me vastly underleveled, especially compared to other people. 12 hours further in, still not found the second Gym yet. Hrm. Neither have I found anywhere to buy clothes! My character has, however, had a haircut because I was sick of having "Iris's" huge hair, and bought a hat. I've also re-bred my starter for a better Nature.

I'm pretty behind most people playing due to school (so much school, so much thesis) but I'm on my way to the power plant with delphox, pangoro and tyrantrum. I just picked up a shiny clauncher through fishing chaining as well and I've got an HM slave farfetch'd and swalot for yawn who have kept up due to the delicious EXP share.

I'm considering using more than 6 pokemon as well since EXP share is ridiculous; I'm thinking about adding klefki and pumpkaboo to my team when I see them and wondering if I want to train a heliolisk and a pinsir for mega pinsir. I've heard mega pinsir is decent and pinsir is a pokemon I've literally never used so it doesn't offend my sensibility for using only all new pokemon in a new gen.
