“What the hell is this?” Shayan glared and brandished a white length of paper, some two-or-so inches wide by serval inches long. It was dense with print: tiny, descriptive text followed by several digits and a bold dollar sign.

Esther squirmed, suddenly fascinated with all the different ways Galarian grass was different from Oblivian grass. Sure, they were both green and grew in clumps, but the grass in Oblivia was just a bit greener and just a bit clumpier. What environmental factors could’ve possibly led to such a curious development? If she had to hazard a guess, then—Esther...”

“Eep!” That growl and—Gasp—he never called her ‘Esther’. Could it be...? Was she...perhaps...In trouble?

“It’s...uh...the bill?” Esther had the decency to look embarrassed. “Okay, so I miiight have spent a bit too much.”

You think!?

“I only bought the necessities!” Pyrrha—held in Esther’s arms—rattled supportively and earned herself a few mollifying chin scratches. It was so cute that her partner was backing her up!

“Necessi—” Shayan sputtered and pointed to an item. “A hammock?”

“Hammocks provide a unique outdoor experience. They’re more comfortable than traditional tents, more versatile, lighter weight on average, and more portable Plus, they’re eco-friendly!”

“Eco-frie—no, whatever. What about this—a quilt set?”

“Quilts are lighter and more comfortable than sleeping bags whilst also being adjustable for both heat and the cold. Seven out of Ten hikers prefer the comfort of a quilt over stuffy sleeping bags!”

“Essy, who told you that?”

“The salesman.”

“...”

“...”

Shayan groaned and his fingers—receipt included—swept through his hair. Resigned, he sighed.

“Couldn’t you at least try to be a normal trainer? You know, pack light, carry a small backpack with maybe a few sets of comfortable clothes, a pair of boots, one sleeping bag, and a week’s supply of granola bars?”

Esther smiled and stuck out her tongue. Granola bars? Bro, you lived like that?

“They’re cheap and long-lasting too, saved my life once when I got lost in Unova’s desert resort.”

Oops! Had she said that out loud? Esther schooled her expression into one that was only slightly condescending. Shayan rolled his eyes.

“You’ll see soon enough; when that time comes, don’t say I didn’t warn you!”

The siblings exchanged glares until Aragón released himself from his pokéball. The Armarouge tapped his wrist and brought another sigh from his trainer.

“You’re right, Unova’s pretty far and we’d better get going if we want to make it on time. Take care of yourself little sis.” Shayan reached out, no doubt intending to tousle her hair and ruin a half-hour’s effort. She wouldn’t let him! Esther ducked away and dove in for a hug, giggling as Pyrrha squirmed between them. She didn’t forget to murmur her gratitude into his chest; she really had spent quite a bit.

For a moment, they simply enjoyed the embrace. However, they both had things to do and at least one of them had other places to be. Shayan pulled away and released Akylas. The Braviary tilted as its trainer mounted.

“Stick around Motostoke for a couple of days, maybe even a week or two. Life as a trainer can be tough, but the reward is well worth it. Oh, and remember to call mom!”

Within a few mighty wingbeats, Shayan had become a spec in the sky, shooting towards the horizon, and Esther was left all alone, in a new and unfamiliar region. Well, she wasn’t entirely alone. Esther squeezed and found comfort in the soft down of her partner’s feathers. As strange as it might’ve felt to be ‘on her own’, that emotion was a flickering candle amidst a blaze of excitement! There was no time for moping about and in any case, her family was only a call away.

“C’mon Pyrrha, let’s go explore!”

Nakano Saito

Date: June 9 (26yo)
Location: Motostoke, Galar
Pokemon Team: Chu the Pichu, Fluffy the Flareon, Silenus the Sceptile, Aero the Aerodactyl, Hanu the Infernape, Mudster the Swampert, Hattie the Hatterene

Interactions: N/A; Open

Normally, a tournament wouldn't be interesting to the field researcher in Nakano except on a television while she did her genetics testing. However, this specific tournament did hold her interest for one reason.

It was in Motostoke, and it was the Masters 8 Tournament. Something so grand that many people were coming in for. Taking this as an opportunity to further her environmental research on the effects people had on the nearby ecology, she sent in her application to the guy in charge of it all a week beforehand - Kabu - and received an email that allowed her to pass off on working in Sinnoh for a whole week in exchange to work as a field researcher to survey the dangerous Pokemon in the Wild Area in the immediate vicinity of Motostoke, and allow her to further her generalized model of the effects trainers had on the well-being of wild Pokemon.

She arrived a few days before the 9th in Motostoke to gather supplies and her bearings before setting off to do her research. People were already arriving in droves at this time and she was glad she didn't bother with a hotel room because most of them were pretty much booked. In fact, she had to ride around on her Aerodactyl after being given a flying permit by the committee here to find all the Power Dens in each area, jotting them down on her map.

She had done some preliminaries of dangerous Pokemon found within Galar Route 3, Motostoke Outskirts, Watchtower Ruins, and West Lake Axewell in the three days she was here until the 9th rolled around. She just needed to do East Lake Axewell and Axew's Eye, and that's all that needed to be done. Since the Masters 8 Tournament was going to be underway soon, everyone was trying to do what they wanted and train before the tournament started. She jotted down possible lull times for the battles, and realized that despite the amount of participants, there was such a surge that it was going to cause mayhem if they didn't keep everyone in line.

Plus, with this many people, it left her wondering if there were going to be the unsavory people - like poachers - who would use this wondrous time to take advantage of the wild Pokemon here. All they had to do was send out a really strong Pokemon of their own and scare off trainers from an area to conduct their misdeeds.

Feeling disgusted, Naka sipped her Moo-Mago Milkshake and offered some of it on the straw to her Pichu, which sat atop her head. Squeaking with delight, she took a sip and practically melted on the blonde woman's head, getting her to chuckle.

"Alright, time to look over our notes and see if we can send an incomplete list for right now, so at least the authorities can send it out to the others."

With a quick skim, she packed the list with assurance she'll collect more data in East Lake Axewell and Axew's Eye in the same email before sending it off to the people who hired her for the survey. Some data was better than no data, and it couldn't have come at a more opportune time. She also wrote down a list of other warnings, like to be careful of poachers and overzealous trainers with strong Pokemon, who will be trying to fit their misdeeds or battles in between the tournament fights. Once that was done, she walked to the southern end of the entrance and stood before the stairway that led to East Lake Axewell, the wind blowing past her to blow away the rest of the mechanical, steamy, smoky smell Motostoke seemed to give off.

"Well... Time to continue our research and hope we're not too late." She spoke to her Pichu, who squeaked in agreement.

Attention!

Sinnohan Field Researcher Nakano Saito did a survey of the western and eastern sides of Motostoke, as well as Watchtower Ruins and West Lake Axewell. More information will be submitted once data has been collected from East Lake Axewell and Axew's Eye. The list is based on personal experience, past records, and objective analysis of wild Pokemon acting individually or as a group. Hordes will be extremely common among the weaker Pokemon.

As a reminder, Pokemon in areas that tend not to contain large amounts of the evolved forms of some of the base form Pokemon one would see on any other time may have an unaccounted for surge in activity. Wild Pokemon of these base forms may evolve due to stress from the encroaching, harsh activity, or their parents may descend onto the more traveled paths from the outskirts to attack those who harm the chance of their lineage continuing.

Essentially, the more dangerous the trainers are and in greater numbers, the stronger the wild Pokemon will become to protect themselves and their homes, whether it be a smaller Pokemon one saw just a few days ago that had evolved after countless stressful battles from trainers, or their parents.

There will also be more wild Pokemon infighting, as well as a variety of Pokemon in ragtag groups working together to keep themselves and their areas safe. These overly aggressive and defensive Pokemon are not to be trifled with. Weather may become severely unpredictable. Some Pokemon may not be available due to their skittish demeanors, while others that are more docile will become aggressive when approached, and those who are more aggressive will attack trainers and Pokemon they don't recognize on sight. It is likely that those affected by Dynamax energy within the Power Dens and when provoked will be extremely aggressive and highly dangerous, as may break out of the dens themselves if given the opportunity or help.

Portions of these lists separated by dashes between most and least aggressive include Pokemon who attack if provoked. This can include getting within a certain range that's too close or attacking Pokemon nearby. Some of these Pokemon in these portions may hunt down offenders out of the area.

The Pokemon to watch out for from most aggressive to least aggressive include but are not limited to:

They will react to the sudden surge of activity by protecting themselves and their Salandit mobs, and they will do so by taking over male Pokemon with their pheromones. In fact, Nakano Saito has counted a greater surge in female Salandit evolutions in the past three days, making Motostoke Outskirts a dangerous area to venture further into. Stay within the most traveled path and away from any mounds or rock fields you may see in the distance. If you smell a sweet or sulfuric smell, steer clear until you can't smell it anymore.

"...more than anything it will be the Dynamax Dens that will hold the area of greatest possible concern. So priority areas to suggest would be places with particular concerning Pokemon, such as Axew's Eye and West Lake Axewell."

Captain Rodriguez and her crew had touched down at Motosoke a day or two prior, and now had their big meeting with one of the central authority figures in Motosoke. A representee of the city council, though they had their meeting adjacent to the large and impressive Mootoske Stadium itself. They had expected to also meet with Kabu the Gym Leader but he seemed to be occupied, not an unexpected result given several trainers had been coming in for this job.

Either way, the room included Rodriguez herself, Zeke, Maddie and Arthur though they also were flanked by a monitor screen which had Penny's display on it. Needless to say the hacker and cyber-specialist had not been much of a people person so opted to remain back on the airship in the docks though still had a way to be part of the final briefing on the matter.

"You must have quite the low expectations of people if you went to all this trouble for added security." Penny said over the line, as even not in person her snarkiness remained as the council rep seemed to sheepishly rub their head before they answered.

"Just a good precaution is all. When it comes to these Masters 8 exhibitions, we tend to get too much traffic crammed into too little space." The representative insisted which seemed to be reasonable enough.

"We'll be able to have eyes and ears on those locations. Should we establish contact with these other hired trainers?" Rodriguez asked the representative who seemed to mill it over.

"Naturally I think your paths will cross on this assignment regardless, and sure there are some skills others may bring to the table you could find helpful even among your diverse skillsets." The representative mused a bit. "Just uh, remember this isn't a competition and you are working together not to top one another." He added on.

"I'd like to think the trainers Kabu would send personal invites for would be a bit more mature than that." Zeke said, though as he glanced over to Arthur who seemed to be trying to balance himself on his big toe as this discussion had gone along, he sweat dropped a bit. "W-well, most of them anyway."

"I think you should also make sure your Pokemon Centers are well staffed during this period, a call or two to adjacent cities to bring over extra aid during this period can't hurt. I know first hand medical centers can be overwhelmed in such periods." Maddie said back and the representative seemed to beam a bit.

"O-oh yes believe me Kabu has made such arrangements. We have some nurses expected to come in today willing to lend an extra hand to the center." He explained which seemed to be enough for Maddie's approval as Rodriguez seemed to grin ear to ear.

"Well then, that should about cover it. Don't worry about a thing the Blazed Hearts Crew will make sure everything runs smoothly. Let's set off team!" Rodriguez called out.

"Aye Captain!"

The group left the meeting and walked along just outside the large arena where the featured event would take place. As they had, Zeke seemed to set up what seemed to be a container that opened up and revealed multiple drones, he tapped to his earpiece with Penny on the other line.

"About to deploy the eyes int he sky, have that network of yours set up?" Zeke asked.

"Yeah all good here. Get those "babies" of yours going or whatever." Penny said as she seemed to set up her network link to the drones and Zeke rolling his eyes at the comment activated them as they seemed to be spherical bird-like entities that flew up in the air and began to scatter around; some sailed high, some glided a little lower but they should help to give Penny eyes of the city and the areas around it which had the benefit of making seamless coordination. Upon them taking flight Rodriguez grinned a bit with that ever present enthusiasm.

"Alright, now let's go explore. No reason we can be familiar with the layout after all~"

Team: Chimchar, Grookey, Panpour, Togepi

Mentions: Esther Sophys(@kyuukestu)

Wilford adjusted the cuffs on his suit as he stood outside the Motostoke Battle Café, satisfied with what he learned about his Chimchar and Grookey. Kneeling down, he opened his suitcase to examine his Pokémon. The aforementioned monkey Pokémon had already proven their worth in battle, meaning it was time for the back half of the team to receive the same treatment. Wilford's mouth morphed into a scowl upon gazing Panpour's Pokéball, out of all the water types his father could have given him, why did he have to stick him with something hardly better than a Magikarp? Comparing Panpour to a Magikarp would be unfair however, given that the weak Magikarp evolved into the mighty Gyarados through hard work and dedication, while the mediocre Panpour could only become slightly less mediocre through exposure to a Water Stone. Granted getting a Water Stone could be accomplished in a phone call thanks to the Pine Mining Industry, but dealing with the business just to get a slightly better Pokémon was hardly worth the trouble. Still, the rich young man had to admit he was being somewhat unfair. He allowed Chimchar and Grookey to prove themselves in battle, Panpour should get the same opportunity. However, that opportunity would only be offered after Togepi was tested.

The rich young man rose from the ground after buckling his suitcase together and decided to walk around the City to learn more about it. His first destination was the resident Pokémon Center, wherein he healed his Pokémon and purchased a pair of revives in case of emergencies. His next stop was to find any stores that sold clothing. Of course, the rich young man wouldn't be caught dead in common variety clothing, but he enjoyed the educational experience of finding the source of people's fashion problems. Unfortunately, the only clothing store he encountered exclusively sold uniforms for Pokémon Gym challenges. Disappointment traveled with Wilford as he visited a vending machine for a bottle of Fresh Water. Though cheap tasting, it managed to quench his thirst suitably, much to his surprise.

Wilford was prepared to return to the Budew Drop Inn when he noticed a curious individual among the crowd of city folk. Closer inspection revealed this individual to be a young woman with a gothic fashion sense complete with black hair with red tips. The rich young man was content to leave her be after properly taking in her unique methods of self-expression, but a thought came to him that stopped him in his tracks: what if she was a trainer? Though not always, dedicated Pokémon trainers tended to distinguish themselves with unique outfits. Champions, Elite Four members, and Gym Leaders were prime examples of this principle. If that's what she was going for, then she could be a suitable opponent to test Togepi's battle capability. Without further hesitation, the rich young man decided to approach the goth girl to confirm his assumption.

The city was SENSE-ational! Last night, while flying in on Akylas, Esther thought she had seen Motostoke for what it was. Oh, how wrong she had been! The cityscape at night had a quiet charm: its lights had been dimmed to a starry glow; its people reduced to a trickle along asphalt veins; and only the distant cries of unfamiliar pokémon broke the silence. But during the day? Honestly, it was a bit much! The difference was...well, night and day! The city was alive and bursting with a vigor that assaulted the senses.

Esther drew in a deep breath and a hundred aromas filled her lungs. She picked out a few: the sweet fragrance of flowerbeds in full bloom; the exotic waft of a gentleman’s cologne—it was a bit on the strong side, but pleasant nonetheless; the pungent musk of a desperately needed shower...Eww; and masking it all was the sharp bite of smokestacks. Esther frowned and leveled her displeasure on high at the chimneys that sat above what must’ve been every second building. Their smoke had risen with the sun and showed no sign of slowing much less stopping—a new and unwelcomed constant.

The girl huffed and moved on. Motostoke might not be big on clean air, but the metropolis was a feast for her curious eyes. A thousand sights surrounded her: behemoths of red-brick and iron vents, an architecture so different from the wooden constructions of Cocona & Tilt Villages or even the fire-retardant stone of Aqua Resort. Elsewhere colorful stalls peddling goods: human food, pokémon food, specialty pokéballs, trading cards...? Esther had half a mind to stop and check things out, but the long lines convinced her otherwise. Come to think of it, where even was she? She had been heading to Budew Inn and then...??? Had she taken a wrong turn somewhere?

Esther spun left, then right; nothing looked familiar! The Oblivian stopped and gathered her bearings. She had been searching for street signs when she noticed someone approaching her. He wore a clean, well-pressed suit and carried a briefcase. He was much too fancy to have any business with her, but a double-take confirmed that he was, indeed, approaching her.

Oh! She knew what this was, she’d read about this!

As the man approached Esther promptly held out her hand—STOP! She turned up her nose at him, refusing to even entertain conversation. She knew all about people like him and their slimeball tactics.

“Look, I don’t know what you’re selling but I’m not interested, and I’m also broke, so don’t bother trying to convince me.”

If she hadn’t just finished a shopping spree Esther might’ve at least listened to the salesman’s pitch, but she was on her own now so she couldn’t afford to spend impulsively.

Rodriguez and her crew walked along the upper levels of Motostoke, figuring that an initial route of the place to identify key areas they'd be guarding over would help, even if she intended to focus more on those wild areas of concern that had been highlighted to them. And of course, they had a chance to restoke supplies while they were here so why not take advantage of that?

Zeke and Arthur seemed to go to the item shop my the local Center, while Maddie herself was busy chatting with the nurses likely to establish a quick connection line in case she needed to make some emergency deliveries.

Arthur himself wanted a fishing rod, Zeke seemed to blink at the randomness of such a request, given they usually spent time in the sky and he never expressed wanting a new addition to his party but Arthur had been a stubborn one once he had his mind made up. And his flawless reasoning?

"Consider it a gut feeling."

As he said this, his Munchlax released itself and seemed to have its stomach growl, as Zeke seemed to frown a bit. He swore sometimes this guy had done this on purpose...

Rodriguez in turn seemed to tap to her ear piece. "So, we got visuals with the drones Wiz?" She asked, as she soon enough she had gotten a response.

"Aye Captain, have our eyes in the sky."

Penny's Drones (Unranked)
Motostoke Outskirts, Galar (June 9)

Indeed the birds have taken wing, as the drones Zeke made though Penny seemed to establish connection and control of flew high into the air, scattering across the city and even beyond it as a certain group of the bird-like drones flew over to the Motosoke Outskirts. From the feed within the S.S. Eternal Dawn, Penny watched in her quarters as multiple monitors seemed to come alive as she was given multiple aerial perspectives of the area and already worked to ensure the feed remained strong.

Penny course sighed, these kinds of jobs had been lose-lose situations. Either nothing happened and she'd just be glancing at monitors for days, or everything happened and she had to coordinate a stressful situation. But the younger girl had chosen this to be her path, so she was determined to do her job all the same to ensure her team was best prepared and updated on what to do.

"Emolga~"

Penny blinked as her partner Sparky moved comfortably on her shoulder, and the more recluse girl seemed to smile a bit petting it as least she had some trusted company. Either way her eyes focused on monitors with the Outskirts drones, as a few of them flew over at varied heights to map out the area...

At first, Wilford raised an eyebrow upon watching the goth girl place her palm out in front of her as if she were a crossing guard. Her upturned nose initially earned her a sneer from the rich young man. How dare she act like she was too good for him? However, the sneer slowly dissipated as the goth opened her mouth. Of course she thought he was a salesman, not only did he look the part naturally, but he even played the part with a silent approach. Wilford punched the bridge of his nose as he understood his error, noticing the Jangmo-o beside her as he returned eye contact. The more details he got about this girl, the more she seemed like a Pokémon trainer, though now it was abundantly clear to the rich young man that he was getting nowhere without stating his intentions.

"You can put your hand down, I'm not trying to sell you anything," Wilford stated plainly, his face devoid of any prior expressions of embarrassment, "Even if I were, I already have enough money to take care of myself, and I could already tell you're broke, your high maintenance appearance suggests any money you had was already spent. What I'm here for pertains to the dragon at your side. Though I'm admittedly a novice, I'm a Pokémon Trainer, and I approached you under the assumption that you shared my occupation. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong."

Salesmen were persistent. They could sell you a bag of lies without batting a single eyelash. Their methods were unscrupulous, and they would stop at nothing to manipulate their victims into a purchase. Even knowing all that, Esther's jaw still dropped, and she freaked when the salesman went and punched himself in the face. Straight to self-harm? This guy was a big YIKES! Talk about not being able to handle rejection!

‘‘High maintenance?’

Esther sputtered and looked down at her one-piece dress: long sleeves, shoulder free—sans two shoulder straps—and majority black, high-waisted belts divided the ‘blouse’ section from the ‘skirt’ section where a thin black exterior lay over a red velvet interior. Should she be insulted by his assumptions or flattered that he’d noticed the quality of her fit?

Mr. Suit-tie-n-briefcase wasn’t exactly low-maintenance himself, so the goth did a double-take when he revealed himself as a trainer. Guess trainers came in all shapes and sizes. The offered battle had Esther glancing down, where she found Pyrrha moments away from sinking her beak into Mr. Suit-n-tie’s briefcase. Oof, hope there was nothing important in there,

“Uhh," She locked eyes with the man, watching for any inflections as she silently returned Pyrrha to her pokéball. "So you want a battle? Sure! Where do you want to have it?”

There didn’t seem to be any battlefields in the vicinity, but Mr. Suits was probably a local and knew better than she where they could do mortal combat.

Rodriguez and company seemed to walk around to the southern side of Motosoke. The network communication seemed to be all good according to Penny, she and Zeke had gotten some key supplies, Arthur had gotten his desired fishing rod and Maddie seemed to get a personal emergency contact with the local Pokemon Center. Things all in all seemed to be looking up as the group continued their initial "patrol" of sorts around the city before Rodriguez was struck with inspiration and seemed to pull a pair of Pokeballs.

"Since this is the calm before the storm period, no sense in not giving our guys some fresh air to get used to the place. Come out everyone!" Rodriguez called out, as she seemed to release her entire team! Her partner Absol and her Flygon of course but also the rest of her team: An Aipom with a visible Everstone necklace, a Zebstrika, a Froslass and a Palafin which seemed to produce some water under its belly to lay upon while it smiled bubbly.

"Welcome to Motosoke guys! We are on guard duty so if the time comes for it, I'll need you all ready to lend a hand. Can I count on you~?" Rodriguez called out, and her team seemed to all cry out as Aipom even took it a step further and crawled up the captain's shoulder who in turn pet its head much to its approval.

"Must she always be so dramatic?" Penny said, though she of course spoke through a monitor of a personal drone she had traveling with the group as Maddie and Zeke seemed to be more amused by this than anything.

"Well hey, some chance to spread their legs is always good for a Pokemon's health. Come on out!" Maddie called out as she released her own partner Blissey, Drowzee and a Comfey.

"Indeed, now let's join the party!" Zeke called out as he released his partner Samson the Gurdurr, Crimson the Growlithe and Daisy the Mudsdale as all six Pokemon of both trainers seemed to cry out happily and mingled with Rodriguez's team. Arthur merely chuckled to himself a bit as he had his Munchlax already next to him and pulled out a Pokeball.

"Ah the spirit of youth. No reason not to join in I suppose~" Arthur said, as he released his partner Lucario as the older Pokemon and the Munchlax mingled while Penny watched the scene play out.

"I hope these guys remember it isn't supposed to be a picnic." Penny said within her room on the S.S. Eternal Dawn, though as she watched everyone get along through the monitor and their Pokemon mingle her own heart seemed to feel something, perhaps a touch of regret not being there as the words of her captain seemed to speak to her mind.

You'll always be one of us, and don't ever feel like you have to keep yourself closed off. We always welcome you~

However Penny shook her head. She had her role on the team and that role was something that had no required her to go out and waste excess energy. Sparky her Emolga semeed to sense her confliction and cuddled by it, which caused Penny to blink a bit before she sofly pet its cheek. "There's nothing I can do out there anyway. Better served here." Penny said to herself.

Though whether she tried to convince Sparky of this or herself had been unclear.

It seemed Wilford's comment touched a nerve for the goth, her impromptu survey of her appearance prompting a chuckle out of the rich young man. A survey of his appearance soon followed, likely caused by surprise at him being a trainer rather than a salesman. Though the misunderstanding was logical, Wilford saw no reason to mentally entertain it any longer, leading him to not react when being examined by the goth. However, the Jangmo-o nearly making his briefcase into its lunch did prompt a reaction from the rich young man, even if it was limited to jerking his case away in tandem with the goth returning her Pokémon.

Need to put a leash on that thing...

The goth's agreement to battle Wilford allowed him to regain composure, content with events returning to their proper course. Upon being asked where their upcoming battle would take place, the rich young man allowed his eyes to glide around the city. The Motostoke Battle Café was out immediately; though it was the obvious choice, he felt it unwise to return so soon after he had left. Truth be told, there were no qualms Wilford held with having the battle right here and now, but once he laid eyes on the route to the Outskirts, he abandoned the idea. He intended on going there anyway to test his Panpour, why not host a battle in the open space to give both combatants more room to experiment?

"The Outskirts work for me," After stating his intentions, Wilford began to walk towards his destination, suspecting that the goth would either follow behind him or refuse while voicing her objections. Either way, there was no reason to wait for an answer.

Naka had just retreated to the center portion of Motostoke to get some food for her Pokemon, especially getting a big ol' treat for her Aerodactyl as he'll be helping her for her quick study on the East Lake Axewell and Axew's Eye. She needed to do it today though. No dilly-dallying.

Well, of course, dilly-dallying became something that did happen anyway. While they were walking back to the southern gate, her Aerodactyl caught a whiff of something. For a moment, Naka thought he smelled blood, but she noticed he wasn't looking concerned. There was a joyous, nostalgic look in his eyes. Did someone smell of ruins?

The larger-wingspan-than-average Aerodactyl screeched and flapped away from Naka, causing her to chase after her fossil and prevent anyone from getting too afraid. "Aero, come back!" She yelled, her Pichu squeaking at him, but their yells were unheard.

That was when she came upon the group Aero was flying towards. Aero chittered and cooed unlike other Aerodactyl, and he landed several meters from the Flygon. He even bowed, his tail wagging as if he were a canine Pokemon. There was no malice within him, just head-empty and no-thoughts creature with a big, selfless heart.

Naka, in her camouflage coat and khaki pants, finally caught up, her Pichu hiding within her hair as she caught her breath. "Oh, s-sorry, he's not normally like thi-" The woman took a double take and looked at them all with curiosity. The one person who stood out was Rodriguez and her Absol. As soon as she realized who this was, she smiled. "Your reputation precedes you Blazed Heart Crew. I've heard of your help in the Nacrene Museum. Good job there, by the way." She chuckled. "The name's Nakano Saito, but you can just call me Naka. I work for Professor Rowan, and I'm here to further my research and make sure nobody get hurt from the Pokemon getting upset from the huge surge of trainers coming in and wrecking their ecology. I just sent a list of Pokemon to look out for to the city council and will be doing so again here pretty soon after I map out a couple more places."

Aero looked up and watched a nearby drone buzz around, his panting gaze alerting Naka and she looked up. "Oh, that's cool. Anyway," she then gestured to her Aerodactyl and Pichu. "This is Aero, and this is Chu."

Before she could do anything else, three Pokemon appeared by her side. A Flareon stood at her feet, glaring at the Absol with seemingly uncaring eyes. A Sceptile appeared behind her, his gaze protective as he swept the crew with a steely gaze before relaxing. Finally, an Infernape appeared, and he immediately began sizing up the Lucario. He comically looked like he was about to start a brawl in a cartoon, rolling up imaginary sleeves as he bounced on his feet and rolled his fists in the air. Groaning, Naka bear hugged her Infernape from behind and held him there as he struggled to break free. "I'm so sorry, Hanu really likes to battle other Fighting-Types, especially Lucario. That's Silenus the Sceptile and Fluffy the Flareon, by the way."

The Infernape screeched and pushed his hand in her cheek, which only tightened her grip further. Finally, the Infernape turned into dead weight, laying in her arms all limp and making her chuckle. "Dork."

She then turned her attention to the others in the group, giving them a sheepish, apologetic smile. "So, how are you, guys? You guys also joining the whole shebang here?"

“You don’t actually go around in a suit, do you?” She was curious. Trainers, in her imagination, were explorers. It was them and their pokémon against the incredible vastness of the world. Of course, for anyone intending to brave the wild a suit was a bit... “Doesn’t it get ruined? And is that briefcase where you keep your supplies? A bit light for travel, no?”

Esther trailed along, spitting questions as the nameless—“Oh, right! You never introduced yourself. I’m Esther! Pleased to meet you!” Okay, where were we? Ah, yes! Esther trailed along and indulged her curiosity; a new trainer, just like her! The first she’d met and now they’d do battle—a serious battle! What pokémon would he have? Should she ask...? No, she’d find out soon.

The pokéball at her waist shook and Esther covered it with a palm. “You can’t come out if you’re going to bite things!” The shaking stilled. Her brother had said pokémon could still perceive the world from within their pokéballs and Esther found it both fascinating and silly. The former because, I mean, she had so many questions! What did they mean by ‘perceive’, they could hear—clearly—but could they see? Touch? Taste? Why could they even see in the first place; were a pokémon’s senses that strong or did the pokéball include some form of sensory transmission feature? As for the feeling silly part—well, she was talking to a metal & plastic ball, which part of that wasn’t a bit silly?

Queries aside, she had noticed Pyrrha had a penchant for biting things. She’d been doing it since their time in Oblivia. While Esther understood the dragon-type was still young and was probably going through a ‘teething’ phase, she also understood that as the trainer it was up to her to set reasonable boundaries so her pokémon didn’t develop bad habits.

“No biting,” Esther asserted. “Do we have a deal?”

The decision must’ve taken some deliberation because Esther could see the gates leading to the outskirts before the pokéball at her waist shook once more.

“One shake for yes.” The pokéball shook. “Great!”

In short order, the dragon newt was out and about. She looked saddened by the ‘no biting’ rule, but Esther wouldn’t be swayed so easily. Tough love!

As the crew's Pokemon got some legs to move about and explore, they in turn made sure to keep close by them as they enjoyed this rare quiet moment. When it came time for the job, they knew it'd be a hectic affair Rodriguez especially though while the thrill-seeker looked forward to the fun that came with their guard duty, she also had to enjoy a moment like this as Maddie prepared some Pokemon treats.

However, one of Penny's atrial drones seemed to pick up something, as the girl streaming over a floating drone with the group seemed to pick up and worked to inform them in hate.

"Hey guys just picked up something heading our way." Penny said over the monitor as Flygon and the other Pokemon seemed to sense it not a moment after, and indeed something did seem to approach the group; or rather specifically, the Flygon itself. An Aerodactyl seemed to land by the party which seemed to stun Zeke especially as it was about the last thing he expected.

"A-aerodactyl!?" Zeke called out, as his partner Samson the Gurdurr seemd ready to fight if need be, but Maddie needed onlt a single glance at it to quell that.

"Relax. It seems friendly. It's keeping distance, wagging its tail. No signs of aggression." Maddie said, to which Arthur seemed to confirm himself seeing the aura of the odd but friendly creature. "Indeed, though why it is here is another question. Perhaps I can ride it to discern."

"Right, "discern", that's the reason."

As Penny rolled her eyes at Arthur's "suggestion", Rodriguez did rub her chin in thought as to what this Aerodactyl was doing here and why it seemed especially keen on Flygon. Her Pokemon tilted its head confused while it tried to get a read, but soon an answer came as a voice called out as a young woman in camo, kahkis and with a Pichu on her person seemed to apologize over this as it was presumed to be a Pokemon she owned. Penny had to raise an eyebrow as her visual reflection through her portable drone was priceless. The person introduced themselves as Nakano Saito, a researcher and assistant to Professor Rowan who seemed to be familiar with the Blazed Hearts Crew which Rodriguez beamed at.

"Oh nothing to it. All in a days work to make this place a bit safer for everyone. Likewise it is nice to meet a collogue of Rowan here." Rodriguez said as she decided to do her own share of introductions. "For the sake of formality: My name is Maria Rodriguez, this is my crew, Ezekiel Williams..."

"Feel free to call me Zeke." Zeke insisted with a smile.

"...Maddison Meadows.."

"I more go by Maddie, but a pleasure." Maddie said with a smile herself.

"...Arthur Griffin..."

"A Rowan aid huh? That's the one who let me ride a Tentacruel. Oh no, that was Ivy...and upon reflection not sure she gave me permission" Arthur mused aloud, as Maddie and Zeke sweat dropped and Rodriguez turned to the portable drone with a screen of a girl on it.

"...and last, even if not in person, Penelope Baldwin." Captain Rodriguez said as the girl seemed to scan Naka's outfit again and had her own comment.

"Penny. And you sure you are a researcher? Seem more like a poacher with that getup." Penny commented on as her drone buzzed around Naka as if it had given an inspection. Either way her comments on why she was here and what she had already done got Rodriguez's attention as she seemed to beam a bit at it.

"Oh really? Do you think you can share that info with us? We've had several drones acting as eyes in the sky so any information should help our efforts. We were brought in to act as sort of added security to things." Rodriguez clarified to Naka on what their role here was and what they had done on their side.

Arthur's Lucario seemed to just seem more tired than anything, as the Pokemon with some visible grey lines along the blue fur looked at the energetic Lucario and had not bothered trying to answer its challenge before it was tackled away. Absol in turn merely looked at Sceptile and Flareon with its relaxed, though on alert expression: As if it said, I won't do anything funny if you do not, opting to be protective by its partner.

Aero was very clueless as to what everyone else was talking about, as he cared only for the Flygon. When he heard something about riding, he looked over at Arthur, his tongue lolling out now with a huge grin. He apparently liked that idea.

Of course, with Naka's arrival and her own Pokemon having already came out in some form of protection or greeting, Aero wouldn't be able to. At least, not right now. After introducing herself, Naka found the portable drone with a moving face, and realized that was probably their fifth member. She had heard of the Blazed Hearts Crew having five members, so she wondered where she was, and she absorbed their nickname preferences as they introduced themselves.

Thankfully, Rodriguez seemed to like her despite Penny's quip about her being dressed like a poacher. She chuckled at what Arthur said when they introduced him, shaking her head as she let go of Hanu and he stood beside her obediently this time. "I'm sure that's Ivy." She then gave a reason as to why Aero was here and fixated on the Flygon. "Aero tends to fly off when he smells blood because he's a genuine sweetheart and wants to make sure the person who is hurt is okay. Of course, seeing a prehistoric, flying fossil with razor blades for teeth flying at you when you're already injured is terrifying, so I don't really let him do that. The only reason why I didn't return him then was because he had that look like he smelled something that reminded him of home. Sand tends to do that, and I'm sure that's why he's interested in your Flygon for the moment." She then turned to Arthur. "Aero loves giving rides, but unless you ask specifically to take it slow, he'll try to do aerial maneuvers with you on him because he likes to show off his aerial superiority." She chuckled.

She then turned to Penny. "As for your quip, I'm aware. I get rid of poachers on a weekly basis in Sinnoh and wherever I end up finding them. In fact, I'm regarded as the Guardian Researcher because of it. I assure you, I'm not. I just have to wear camo so I can watch a Pokemon without them noticing I'm there for my research. My research hinges on me not being seen, so they'll act as normal as possible without human intervention."

She then focused her attention on Rodriguez. Security? That's cool. "Sure, here. Give me your email and I can send it to you." Once Rodriguez said her email, she'd send the file she made for the city council to her. "I just have East Lake Axewell and Axew's Eye left. I'm actually going to base a model off of this and other tournaments and tourist attractions with lots of traffic. That way, I can make a simple, more generalized model on the trainers' impact on a habitat's ecology for those who don't have such models and procedures in place. Then they can figure out plans on how to deal with that. I made this more specific for Motostoke, since wild Pokemon are going to be evolving and protecting their land and family more aggressively. In fact, in the last few days, there have been more Salazzle evolutions on the Motostoke Outskirts at a rate where it's difficult to relocate the Salazzle, and there are Pangoros in West Lake Axewell going around and helping the smaller, weaker Pokemon from getting bullied or attacked by trainers who are here to train for the tournament. And that's not even talking about the Tyranitar and Gyarados razing the land once they see a person walking through. Might not even be a trainer, but they'll give chase to any human that they dare see. Even the Pokemon in the Power Dens are getting more aggressive. Once I'm done with my surveying, I can focus on being security on both sides. Shouldn't be too long, I'll likely be back in the afternoon." She rambled, and then she looked back up with an apologetic smile. "Ah, sorry about that. I get a bit passionate and I ramble."

Fluffy saw the Absol's look, and relaxed. So did Silenus. They were okay. Even Chu was starting to leave the comfort of Naka's hair to look at them all with curiosity. She was specifically interested in the Aipom, waving at the monkey and squeaking in greeting.

Naturally Arthur had been a bit, well, eccentric to put it lightly. The tricky thing with him was one never knew how serious he had been with his wild stories or his desires at a given time. "She seems nice, though whenever people speak to her I notice the Auras of young men tend to flicker at her presence. Must leave an impression." Arthur mused, being blind he had not been prone to Ivy's well...physical charm she had on many who had first met her.

Flygon in turn seemed to look at the Aerodactyl with a mix of curious caution, and also well intrigue. As this creature seemed not only friendly, but almost had an endearing charm to it. Like a big loveable pet or something and when Naka added context to why this Prehistoric Pokemon had come their way Rodriguez seemed to smile a bit as she pet the back of the next of her own unique flyer.

"I choose to that that as flattery, and believe me it is no harm and no foul. I am sure the two can get along great, Flygon is always eager to make some new friends." Rodriguez complimented though Arthur's eyebrows seemed to peak a bit when he mentioend being willing to give rides. "Oh really..." He began to say before he had been cut off. "Please don't encourage him." Penny said with a sigh, course she knew this was a topic not likely to drop but she least hoped he'd put off joyrides until after they finished their job.

Speaking of, seemed Penny was addressed as she listened to Naka explain herself and her curious choice of outfit as well as her specific role which seemed to be enough though her expression seemed stuck on neutral. "Fair enough, though you may want to consider how your look may have people perceive what you do." Penny mused back, as Zeke seemed to chuckle. "Hey, if it gets the job done that is what counts. Maddie listened as Rodriguez was informed of the info that Naka had collected and had to admit she was quite impressive least far as what she had done.

"Funny, those are hot areas we were told to focus on. You've done well, sure the data that Penny collects can be good to reference, provided you exchange contacts with us as well." Maddie mused, and Rodriguez seemed to get behind that point as she pulled out a Pokesketch and seemed to show a email link. "Here, we have our own little contact line you can use. Simplifies things and should make communication easier." Rodriguez explained a bit as she seemed willing to share her team's email provided Naka also shared her own, already the captain seemed to sense much potential with this one, and saw a good partnership for this job that should make things easier if all things has gone well.

Rodriguez's Aipom seemed to notice and waved back to Chu, moving off its partner to go say hi in a sense. Maddie's Blissey had kept sort of a peaceful bridge between Rodgiruez's Absol and the Flareon and Sceptile though they seemed to die down which had been good. Samson Zeke's Grudurr had also moved by the new Pokemon curious while others had stuck more by their original trainers as everyone had gotten acquainted.

Naka was used to people like Arthur. She tended to err on the side of caution, but given how he was in wanting to ride Aero, it was likely his story was true. It was likely that his stories were all true, which now she was wondering just what kind of stories he had, which had her chuckling. Though, hearing that he could read aura was a huge boon. She needed a friend like that. "Yup, she's apparently a hottie." She spoke to Arthur before returning to what anyone else was saying.

Upon hearing that Rodriguez was willing to be friends with them, Aero chirped excitedly and his tail nearly knocked over Naka, who had to walk around his whip for an appendage with a chuckle. She heard Penny not wanting her to encourage Arthur, which only had Naka grinning wide. Oh, she was going to. Penny's musings only had Naka chuckling. "I'm more than aware. It's funny, getting poachers to think I'm on their side until I hand them in to the cops or rangers. Unless they're too cautious, then I'm on the receiving end of a shotgun or a knife or a Pokemon attack." She grinned wide, scratching the scar that ran down her neck as it began to itch from the memory. It sent a thrill through her remembering it, too.

When Maddie mused about the data Naka collected, she nodded, her expression a bit more serious. "Well, of course." Naka looked at the Poketch and grinned, pulling out her own phone and offering her email and phone number in exchange for the Blazed Crew's, and even sending them the notice via email so they had a copy. "I didn't know you were in Sinnoh. Unless you got the Poketch delivered somewhere else."

Chu hopped off Naka's head and greeted the Aipom more personally, squeaking about if the Aipom was used to get into air ducts because the Aipom looked like the kind of Pokemon who would. Fluffy just tried to not garner too much attention. The Gurdurr caught Infernape's attention, and Hanu ran over and began flexing to show off his own muscles and even asked it to hit him as hard as he could with a shoulder bash to do a show of strength, patting his shoulder and goading him to try. Naka just rolled her eyes and shook her head, her Sceptile growling in exasperation and poked another Pokeball at Naka's belt. A Hatterene appeared, towering above most of the humans there as she looked at them all. She seemed to be sensing their intentions, then she looked at Hanu and groaned, her hairy pillar that kept her up doubling her over in exasperation.

"Oh, and that's Hattie. She's the cleric of the group." She smiled, patting the silky hairs that held her cleric upright and earning a soft, affectionate hum.

The rich young man felt the lower lid of his left eye twitch as his upcoming opponent began to badger him with questions. Sure, it was a necessary part of building familiarity, but the sheer quantity that had been asked in such quick succession reminded him of the snot-nosed boy he met earlier. At least this girl could keep her nose clean. Wilford kept his mouth shut until he knew she was finished, minimizing the risk of being interrupted in the process. Not only did this silence ensure his replies would be, but the goth girl had finally identified herself as Esther. Just as well, he was never going to ask her name anyway. He had no intentions of battling this girl again.

"I had no intention of leaving the house in a hoodie and sweatpants. If my suit gets ruined, I'll simply have it replaced," Wilford shrugged while answering the first question, his eyes drifting behind him to inform the goth he was talking to her, "Furthermore, I find light travel efficient, there's nothing I need beyond my Pokémon and items pertaining to their care." Out of the corner of his eye, he noticed an extra bit of black behind Esther, prompting him to turn around for a full examination. Said examination revealed a black hiker's back carried by the goth girl. Well, if nothing else her fashion sense was consistent.

"You're one to talk about questionable packing choices. Its a miracle your fragile figure can carry whatever it is you have stashed away in there without falling over," Wilford luggage-related comment quickly left his mind as he saw what could only be described as the goth talking to her Pokéball. As many goths before her, this Esther character had already established herself as an oddball, but talking to an inanimate object moved her into a category beyond casually strange.

"Are you ok in the head?" Raising an eyebrow, Wilford glanced at the girl before surveying the area, concluding that they were good to go, "More to the point, are you ready to battle?"

“Oh! Did you notice? Ehehe~ That was something I considered when I was buying my starter gear, you’d need to be well-prepared if you plan to rough it in the woods, but you can’t carry too much stuff, or you won’t be able to walk anywhere! I managed to fit a surprising amount into this backpack:” Esther wheeled on Wilford with all the enthusiasm of someone who’d been asked to share information about their favorite topic. She counted off her fingers as she went through her list of supplies. “Hommock Set, First aid kit, flashlight, med-kit, water bottle, water purifier, portable stove... I’ve got the whole shebang, BUT you’ll never guess how much it all weighs! Go on, guess!”

If the boy had wanted to throw out a figure, then he was much too slow for Esther, who was already blurting out the answer.

“Just under 30 lbs. or so!”

The goth preened at the revelation. Not everyone was as efficient and economical or had their brother’s credit card as her. The number of guides, articles, and reviews she’d gone through had practically turned her into an expert camper—at least in theory.

“Oh, battle? We’re here, already?” It appeared the rocky outskirts of Motostoke was to be their battlefield. Esther glanced around, they had come a bit further out than when she’d seen off her brother and the flat urban sprawl had given way to more rugged and untamed terrain. She could see trees, shrubs, and large rocks just off the dirt road. Her eyes returned to Wilford.

“Alright, Mr. No-Name let’s do this! Pyrrha, on stage!”

The drake pulled her head out of a patch of tall grass, she shook off a few blades and then eagerly bounced to a position in front of Esther. Once settled, her stance widened and her demeanor changed with the faint poof of feathery scales and the sizzling promise of danger.

Certainly Arthur was a man of many tales. He had been the oldest member of the group by quite a margin, and in spite of his odd quirks that experience was invaluable to Rodriguez and had helped the team on more than one occasion. Plus he tended to keep things entertaining. "I see, well then Zeke you hear that~?" Arthur mused behind the blind man's cheeky grin.

"Arthur, don't...I am a bit more mature than that." Zeke said, avoiding eye contact as Maddie raised an eyebrow and Penny though her monitor just had a "yeah sure" deadpan on her face. Though Penny's gaze shifted over to Naka who seemed to explain how she tended to use her unique gear to get poachers to think she had been on their side and what not even at personal risk which only caused her to sigh a bit. "I would say that is a reckless strategy, but then again I work with Captain Commando here." Penny said and Rodriguez seemed to take it as a compliment.

"Great reward does not come without risk, and it seems her Pokemon trust her so I believe she's doing something right." Rodriguez said a bit touched by the enthusiasm of the Aerodactyl and even the Flygon seemed to feel the earnest energy as it moved a little closer by the prehistoric Pokemon even as it remained within Rodriguez's circle. Either way they exchanged emails and contacts as she seemed to merely grin a bit at the Sinnoh comment. "We tend to travel the whole world, part of the fun side of what we do~"

Rodriguez's Aipom was all smiles, the squeaking as the Pichu seemed to be all buzzes, and it moved to balance on its large tail fist while it happily recounted a tail of one time how it had to scale a damaged blimp! Maddie's Blissey seemed to notice the sheepish Flareon and with permission from her trainer cautiously walked over to say hi as it tried to welcome it. Zeke's Gurdurr Samson noticed the sort of challenge this Infernape laid out, even offering its shoulder and never one to pass something like this up it set its prized beam aside and prepared to drive into the shoulder....only for Arthur's Lucario to place a paw between it as the older Aura Pokemon clearly desired to avoid this macho little display. A large Hatterene appeared and seemed to take up all focus as Naka introduced another of her team and Maddie seemed to look on with interest.

"Well, seems to have a good head on its shoulders." The medic complimented as her Comfrey glided up a bit and tried to offer a friendly hello along with Rodriguez's Froslass.

Wilford was floored by Esther's bountiful enthusiasm that was brought about thanks to his comment about her luggage. Expecting the same stuttering from before, he was surprised that she was completely unfazed by him calling her fragile. Figuring that her thickness of skin should be rewarded, Wilford decided to pay a modicum of attention to her explanation rather than simply ignoring her. Fortunately, it seemed like the goth was less interested in having a dialogue than she was in presenting her monologue to an audience. That had to be the case if she was going to ask for a guess and give out the answer without giving him a proper opportunity to reply.

Nevertheless, that was irrelevant, as the main event had finally gotten underway. After a slight delay, Esther turned to face Wilford, her Pokémon positioned for combat. The rich young man's eyebrow rose upon hearing Esther's name for her Jangmo-o. While certainly more creative than the names he's heard for Combee or Swirlix, it still reeked of a certain childishness he couldn't stand. More than her choice of nickname regarding her Pokémon, Esther's choice of nickname towards Wilford prompted yet another twitch of the eyelid.

"My name's Wilford Pine," The rich young man's expression betrayed a hint of irritation as he grabbed the Pokéball of his Togepi from the briefcase. His expression cooled as he pressed the device's button, letting the Spike Ball Pokémon out of her enclosure. Immediately, the Fairy Type began looking around at her surroundings, a small smile appearing on her face. After a loud cough from Wilford, she turned to face the Dragon Type in front of her.

"Fairy Wind!" With a snap of his finger, the Togepi took a deep breath before blowing a gust of wind at her opponent. An educated opponent would identify the pink and cyan sparkles littered throughout the breath attack as a clear determination of its Fairy Typing and plan accordingly. Whether Esther fell into that category was about to be seen.

Her first battle! First real battle. Her practice against her brother was one thing, but this was another. Esther couldn’t stop a savage grin from splitting her lips. Her eyes scanned the battlefield, her mind working at a furious pace: the shrubbery would make good cover, the large rocks too but she could also shatter them and use the shrapnel for offense, the grass was...well, it was grass, she couldn’t think of anything to do with that.

A flash of light drew Esther’s eyes, and she took note of Wilford’s pokémon—a Togepi. Julie over in Cocona village had befriended one years ago and it had since evolved into Togetic. Esther had never seen Julie’s Togepi or Togetic in a fight, but she knew the egg-pokémon wasn’t quick on its feet and if it needed to go fast then it rolled.

Wilford called for Fairy Wind—what were Pyrrha’s moves again? Leer, Tackle, Dragon Tail, Bide and—“Protect!

A green shield shimmed into being and blocked the prismatic winds.

What had Shayan said about protect? The move was powerful—the ultimate defense. However, it was energy intensive and difficult to use in quick succession. It also wasn’t invincible; some moves could go right through it and if the opponent was much stronger than the user, they could even shatter it. Togepi didn’t look that strong.

The fairy wind died down; it was time to act.

Leer!”

Pyrrha pounced forwards and her eyes narrowed onto Togepi’s frame. If Esther remembered correctly, Leer lowered the opponent’s defenses. She wasn’t sure how it worked but she could imagine Pyrrha was searching out weak spots in Togepi’s shell.

Naka snorted at Arthur's teasing of Zeke, rolling her eyes at their playfulness and seeing the silent looks of his friend's faces calling him out. When Penny said her strategy was reckless, she just nodded in affirmation, clearly quite proud that she's still alive today. As Rodriguez said her Pokemon seemed to trust her, Silenus the Sceptile huffed and stared at her with narrowed eyes, as if offended she'd consider they weren't trusting in her.

Hearing that they traveled the world, Naka's eyes widened with a little sparkle. While she traveled around the world herself and had plenty of money and even a discount to take flights, she couldn't travel as much as she'd like between having to stay in one spot for a week to a month or even several months depending on the rarity or behavior of the Pokemon she was supposed to be doing research on. However, she didn't want to ask to join. It was better if she was a third party anyway.

"Well, if you ever need me, you got my phone number now." She smiled wide, figuring she could be of use.

As the Flygon drew a little closer, Aero tried to contain himself the best he could. He tilted his head in a question, then held out his arms, his wings not displaying and were still folded as he wasn't intimidating, just asking for a hug. Chu looked on in awe as the Aipom spoke of his bravery in scaling a blimp, getting Chu to talk about how she disarmed someone who was about to hurt her trainer when they caught her in an alleyway, puffing out her chest in pride at being so brave, as well. The Blissey's encroachment in Fluffy's space caused the Fire-Type to glare at the Normal-Type, then softened his gaze just slightly as she said hi. Fluffy huffed wordlessly (at least, to the Pokemon nearby), and stood back to sit on Naka's foot, not moving. Naka chuckled and shook her head, speaking to the Blissey.

"Don't worry about Fluffy. It takes a while for him to get warmed up to others and he's always rather distant and moody. He craves social connections even while being a tsun, so he'll come around eventually. Just give him some time." The Flareon glared up at Naka, then looked away as his ears fell to the sides, seeming to pout in some amount of embarrassment at being called out, of which Naka chuckled at.

As the Hatterene was received by Froslass and the Comfey, even giving a little wave with her hand-like hair and saying hello back, the Infernape was having a ball at being able to share a short tussle with the Fighting-Type. Only for the Lucario to stop the two. Deadpanning, the Infernape held out his arms in a 'come on, man' way, even speaking in his monkey-like Pokespeak that sounded very similar to the words and tone.

As soon as Hanu questioned the Lucario, another Pokemon - a seventh one - on Naka's belt came out, and she slapped her hand on her forehead as it did. The scarred-smattered Swampert appeared behind the Lucario in a flash and with a jovial gurgle where he basically said "we're all friends, riiiight?" in Pokespeak and friendly intentions, put his arms out and tried to wrap the Gurdurr, Infernape, and Lucario into a big bear hug, laughing at the scene he's causing and Naka slightly laughing at it.

"Thaaat's Mudster. And before you ask where the scars came from, he collects them and doesn't want me taking him to a Pokemon Center if they have a chance of getting rid of any wounds he accumulates. He likes looking cool and wants to intimidate Pokemon and trainers when they see him."

Rodriguez raised her hands at the Sceptile in question. "Aye, was just speaking up. Bold tactics can show your Pokemon the faith you have in them, if you play your cards right." She added on, before he mentioned the number as she nodded in kind. "And the same is true for you from us, glad to get in contact~"

Rodriguez's Flygon seemed to glance at the Aerodactyl, who seemed to do all it could to show it had not been aggressive and in fact seemed to desire a hug of all things. Rodriguez's Flygon analyzed this and glanced back at its partner, as Maria seemed to give the thumbs up and with a shrug it moved in its own wings retracted to give the prehistoric Pokemon what it desired. At this time Rodriguez's Aipom listned to Chu's wild story and was in aww, crying out in support as it seemed impressed.

Maddie's Blissey seemed to blink as the Flareon seemed to be less than friendly while Naka seemed to outline its own experiences as Maddie herself seemed to have an amused grin. "In my profession we are used to problematic personalities. Periods to warm up and adjust, Blissey won't take any issue with it." She insisted petting the back of Blissey's head who smiled and nodded, sending a message to Fluffy it had been welcomed to get closer to it whenever it felt comfortable.

"Sounds like Penny to me. Just instead of comes out to warm up to you, sends a screen to do it." Zeke mused with a chuckle as Penny twitched and glared at the older man behind her drone's screen. Even ole Arthur got a kick of that. "Oh shut it gramps!"

While Maddie's Comfrey and Rodriguez's Frosslass waved back to it, the Frosslass a bit shyer of the two, Arthur's Lucario merely rolled its eyes as it glanced at Zeke's Gurdurr Samson and the Infernape as it rather avoid a tussle even a friendly one as this Pokemon clearly had been around too many of those with the crew's own Pokemon as it had been.

However, a sudden presence appeared from behind and wrapped Arthur's Lucario and Zeke's Samson in a big hug along with the Infernape, as both squirmed in immediate confusion at the Swampert's arrival and Rodriguez looked on and had a bit of a good laugh at this.

"My my things keep getting better. Think I'll like working with you kid." Rodriguez said to Naka with a smile.

Wilford nodded in approval as he saw the Jangmo-o shield itself with protect. He had more commonly seen the move in doubles matches he watched during his initial trainer instruction, as trainers would bait their opponents into attacking the same Pokémon, just to blank both attacks with Protect, allowing the allying Pokémon to take advantage. Even though this was a one-on-one battle, the move still proved useful in a pinch, allowing the Jangmo-o to come out of an otherwise disadvantageous position. Sadly, his opponent seemed content on wasting the opportunity by aiming for a Leer, lowering a stat Wilford held in little regard. Togepi were naturally fragile creatures, all she did was make the possibility of victory from .01 percent to .02 percent.

"Fairy Wind again," Once again, Wilford snapped his fingers, prompting the Togepi to repeat her previous actions as the Jangmo-o analyzed her opponent for weaknesses in her "armor".

Pyrrha braced beneath the pixie winds, letting whatever fairy magics were at play pound against her feather-scales. Super-Effective or not, one Fairy Wind was far from enough to fell this dragon.

Esther chewed her lips. She was in no rush to give her next order; instead, her eyes bounced between Togepi and the surroundings. One Fairy Wind might not be enough to take out Pyrrha, but five, ten? Obviously, Pyrrha couldn’t tank every attack. Eventually, she would fall. To make matters worse, their opponent had the advantage in range—Fairy Wind would be able to deal damage from far outside the range of Tackle.

The solution? Play it safe until she saw an opportunity to get close, then drop ‘em fast and drop ‘em hard.

“Alright Pyrrha, take cover behind that rock!”

The drake shook off—…was that glitter?—and threw herself into following orders. She made short work of the distance, diving beneath the wooden fence that bordered the road and then taking refuge behind a large rock. That should protect them from any future Fairy Winds so now… “Use Leer!”

Pyrrha peeked out and glared at Togepi, re-doubling her efforts to find flaws in the egg pokemon’s defenses.

A trained eye would be able to spot Wilford's small nods of approval, satisfied with Togepi's performance thus far. These nods quickly ceased when he saw his opponent order her Pokémon to take cover behind a rock, an option that wouldn't have been available on a standard battlefield. However, watching his opponent seek refuge behind the scenery inspired the rich young man to perform a similar tactic, one fashioned for offense rather than defense. Fortunately, the opportunity wasted no time flying into his lap as the Jangmo-o peeked out from its cover.

"Extrasensory! Send her into the rocks!" After a pair of snaps, the Togepi became surrounded by a magenta aura that soon reached out to the watchful Dragon type. Should the attack hit its mark, the Togepi intended to lift the Jangmo-o into the air before sending it flying into a nearby rock similar to the one she took cover behind.

Caught off-guard, there was little Esther could do as Pyrrha was floated into the air.

Extrasensory!? The sudden display of psychic prowess caused the Oblivian to jump in her skin. Telekinesis via Extrasensory was sure to foil any attempts at closing the distance. Topegi weren’t fast, but Pyrrha wasn’t much faster and Esther doubted the drake could rush down the egg-shell mon before it could toss her like a ragdoll. New plan. They’d just risk it.

“Alright Pyrrha, Bide!”

The drake stopped flailing just in time to brace herself for impact with the rock. A loud metallic thwack resounded and a sizeable glow now emanated from the dragon. Pyrrha didn’t move except to coil herself into a defensive ball, awaiting Togepi’s next move.

Silenus huffed upon seeing Rodriguez raise her hands, blinking slowly. He straightened up a bit more, puffing out his chest at what she was saying. Of course, bold and brash, just have to be careful, which Naka and he were good at. Naka chuckled, patting her Sceptile's cheek and nodding at Rodriguez's positivity towards their contact.

Aero saw the Flygon reciprocate his hug and he chittered and purred, hopping forward and pulling the Flygon into a tight squeeze. It felt like hugging home, and he was starting to get emotional from it all, eyes welling in tears.

Chu squeaked happily at the Aipom's positive impression, and then put her hands together and grinned. She squeaked, asking if Aipom would like to play a game of chase.

Thankfully, Fluffy's attitude was something Maddie found normal and Naka sighed in relief. "Good, I don't want you to think Fluffy has it out for you." She grinned, with her Flareon huffing and burying the top of his head in Naka's shin, ears pinned back as he tried to avoid looking at everyone. Zeke's musings of Penny being like her Flareon had her chuckling, but she tried her best to hide it as Arthur got yelled at.

The Hatterene gazed at the two floating mons before her. Seeing the Comfey and the Froslass, she decided to do a cool trick. Holding out her hair like hand, she manifested glowing healing water with Life Dew, then formed the water into two flowers. Using psychic energy (specifically Light Screen), she sculpted psychic glass made from light around the two water flowers, trapping the water in the sculpture with a few bubbles inside, showing movement of water if shaken. This took a while, but she managed to do it easily enough if she took her time and concentrated. Once it was done, she held it out for the Comfey and Froslass to take, smiling sweetly.

Naka looked over as her Swampert hugged the three Pokemon, chuckling as she shook her head despite the intrusion her Pokemon gave. Hearing Rodriguez call her kid though had her laughing. "Kid? I might be a kid to grandpa over there, but I'm twenty-six." She chuckled, shaking her head. "But yeah, I'll enjoy working with you guys, too."

Looking at her phone, Naka realized she had used up some considerable time here. "Oh, I should probably get going before it gets any later. I need to map out the rest of the Wild Area and send it to the city council. It's nice to meet you guys." She bowed politely and in a very Sinnohan way, her Pokemon hearing the goodbyes and prepping to be returned to their Pokeballs, yet Naka didn't do that yet. "It's likely we'll see each other again today, so see you guys later." She smiled, her Aerodactyl giving the Flygon one last squeeze before hopping over to Naka, settling right beside her so she can hook her leg over the saddle and grab his reins. She heard the sad squeak from her Pichu at having to go so soon, and they were just about to start playing.

The rich young man smiled while watching the dragon type bracing for impact against the rock. He had been in complete control of this battle at the outset, and nowhere was this more apparent than the current situation before him. Perhaps unknowingly, the goth had managed to take a feisty dragon and turn it into a sitting duck, though one waiting to eat a hit so it could strike back with increased ferocity. Unfortunately for the goth, Wilford had no intention of entertaining the possibility.

"Prepare yourself to dodge," As per usual, the command was accompanied by a snap. Hearing the command caused the Togepi to pause, deliberating on how she could accomplish her master's orders. Fortunately, it didn't take long for the Spike Ball Pokémon to think of something. Retracting her limbs into her shell, she smiled while watching Pyrrha charge up her attack. Taking notice of the Fairy Type's response, Wilford couldn't help but raise an eyebrow.

I have no idea what I expected...but it wasn't this...

For whatever reason Wilford had decided to brace for a dodge and Esther’s eyes narrowed into happy crescents. The moment passed without another attack and Pyrrha could store no more energy. The white light around the drake’s body gathered near her mouth and—“Knock ‘em flat girl, fire and sweep!”—the beam fired and Pyrrha swept her head to rake destruction in a wide arc over Togepi’s position.

This was in the bag! Esther didn’t think Wilford’s Togepi could dodge a sweep like that. She could see it was prepared to roll but she doubted it could roll faster than Pyrrha could turn her head, especially since it would need to pick up speed. Surely, with the two earlier uses of leer, Togepi’s defense had fallen enough for Bide to take it out in one go. Esther crossed her fingers and watched closely.

"If nothing else, your Pokemon have charm to them no question about it~" Rodriguez said with a sly grin as her Flygon seemed to suddenly be squeezed tight by the overly overjoyed Aerodactyl and while the moment was nice it also seemed to feel the awkward air as it seemed near in tears as the Flygon just patted its back in the embrace.

"Believe me I've learned to handle much worse. I don't ever tend to hold such things personally, would be a foolish principal in my line of work." Maddie explained to Naka as Flareon being a bit unease around new people was far from a rare occurrence and one of those things that needed time for comfort with. Penny in turn seemed to try to just move past the teases of Zeke and Arthur's little chuckles as Naka seemed to take issue with being referred to as a kid which Penny decided to chime in on.

"Don't take it personally. Our captain loves giving out "cute" nicknames to people. How well they fit is more a mixed result." Penny said as Rodriguez seemed to shrug a bit with a "guilty as charged" expression but clarified. "Had a youthful complexion to you so I apologize."

The Froslass and Comfey watched as this Hatterene seemed to perform a trick who seemed to use a combination of maneuvers to form two water sculptures of water and ice as both of their eyes seemed to widen as clearly they both were impressed. "Comfey~!" Comfey cheered on happily and Froslass, a bit more nervous moved its hands by it and used a bit of Icy Wind to add this sort of foggy chill to it almost like a harmonious glow to the flowers as it smiled sheepishly and hoped it enjoyed the contribution.

Seemed that they were set to leave soon and Rodriguez nodded in understanding. "Sounds good, we need to set up some eyes in the sky as well as identify some areas for our patrol. We'll catch up later~" Rodriguez said as most of the crew returned their Pokemon in kind and waved their goodbyes as Naka seemed friendly enough. Flygon waved off its prehistoric buddy while Aipom who nodded eagerly at Chu's game of chase, seemed disappointed as it looked upon the captain sad. "Pom!"

"Relax, you'll get your chance to play later, I promise." The Captain assured her companion as the Aipom sighed sadly and waved goodbye to the Pichu with its tail.

Wilford originally had no reaction to his opponent commanding her Pokémon to attack. He had accounted for this, and all that would be needed was a simple roll out of harms way to ensure Togepi's safety. However, he failed to account for the Jangmo-o sweeping its head to increase the beam's range. A trained eye would notice the widening of his eyes as his Togepi was unexpectedly consumed by the white light the Dragon Type fired using its stored energy. The dust kicked up by the ensuing collision caused Wilford's face to dampen slightly, though one would only be able to tell after taking a closer look. A part of him feared his Pokémon had really succumbed to the might of her opponent. However, the dust cleared to reveal the Spike Ball Pokémon standing relatively unscathed in comparison to the impressive looking attack it suffered. At this, Wilford began to chuckle to himself, amused that he actually thought he was in danger of losing before recomposing himself to assess the situation.

Victory is nearly within grasp, I just have to remove her options and she'll be done for...

"Life Dew!" With a snap of his fingers, Wilford called out his next command, prompting Togepi to circle her hands before pointing upward. Soon after, a single drop of water fell from the sky and landed softly on Togepi's head, healing much of the damage it sustained from the previous attack.

"Fairy Wind!" Once again, the rich young man commanded his Fairy Type to target her Super-Effective move towards her opponent. At a glance, one could see this action as Wilford trying to keep up offensive pressure, and while that was to his benefit, there was another outcome he was hoping would come to pass. Whether his hopes were realized would be left to the decision of his opponent.

The blinding wrath of Bide washed over their opponent, flattening Togepi and landscape alike. The Obliivian smirked. After two defense drops and an attack like that, the match was over. Togepi was dead. Deader than dead. Cadaverif—“Eh…?”

Against all odds, defying logic and scoffing common sense, Togepi stood back up.

“Zombie Togepi?”

Maybe Togepi were a lot tougher than she thought. Should she get one? Wait, was it…healing?

“Oooh no you don’t! Pyrrha get in there!”

Galvanized by Esther’s command Jangmo-o pounced and began racing down the lane of destruction caved out by bide. They could still win this; Togepi was healing so it couldn’t attack and that was a chance to close the distance. It wasn’t enough time to reach Togepi before Wilford called for another fairy wind, but Esther had an answer to that. A little trick lifted right from the Togepi handbook!

“Tuck into a roll and Protect!”

A mildly confused cry leaked out of the dragon, but she did her best. Leaping into the air and biting her tail, Pyrrha evolved into Ouroboros. Protect flashed into place as Pyrrha transformed into a wrecking ball, plowing through the Fairy Winds and set on a collision course with one spikey, ball-shaped pin!

Naka chuckled at Rodriguez's compliment. Oh, they definitely did. Aero appreciated the sweet comfort the Flygon gave, but alas it was time to go. And also thankfully, Maddie was a good doctor, of which Naka gave her a gracious smile. Penny's attempt at trying to de-escalate when Naka was only playfully speaking had her wonder if she really sounded irritated. She just chuckled and shook her head. "Well, thank you for the compliment then. I'm sure with these scars, I look a decade older." She snorted.

Hattie grinned as Comfey loved the pieces she made for them, and ooo'd sweetly at Froslass's addition, even complimenting her how it added to the charm. She then gave the flowers to both Comfey and Froslass to hold, the fog causing the glass to have some condensation but even if they did fall, they wouldn't break.

Hearing that they also needed to do a perimeter watch, Naka nodded. Her Pokemon waved goodbye at the returned Pokemon before being returned themselves, her Pichu hugging Aipom's waving tail and optimistically promised they'll play later before jumping and resting herself between Aero's horns, while her Flareon hopped up and rested himself in a little front divot in the saddle. Naka hooked her leg around her Aerodactyl, wrapped her Flareon's body with belts to cinch him in place as he sat there comfortably, and she looked over at the group with a smile. "Hope you guys find something exciting!" She grinned, her Aerodactyl screeching before opening his wings, showing off his larger-than-normal wingspan before jumping up with the aid of his tail to fly. With a couple more flaps, they had already cleared the perimeter wall's height, and she disappeared past it, her Aerodactyl having used Tailwind and zipped away in a near blur, Naka having to squeeze her legs tightly and lean her head forward to avoid being blown back.

"Now, let's get map out this last area, and we'll be done!" She said, a happy smile on her face as she went about her job.

Rodriguez of course like the majority of her crew waved off Naka for now, and she had to admit if people like here were also brought in for this job than this appeared to be more interesting than she initially hoped. Rodriguez's Flygon offered a friendly cry goodbye to Aero for now as it had a feeling their paths would cross again during this venture.

Penny of course observed through the monitor and Naka's comment which caused her to roll her eyes a bit, but in the end even she had a slight smile as nothing else this woman had been interesting.

Maddie herself smiled and winked back to Naka, taking a liking to her already which was a feeling shared by her Comfey as Naka's Hattie seemed to approve of its gift and Rodriguez's Froslass seemed charmed that it welcomed the contributions. Both were given gifts as they waved their new friend off and Froslass even had a small smile. Rodriguez's Aipom hugged the Pichu with its tail before the Crew returned most of their Pokemon back while aforementioned Aipom returned to Rodriguez's shoulder as the crew listened to Naka's parting words which caused Zeke to chuckle a bit.

"Believe me, knowing our luck excitement is bound to find us." Zeke said which caused Arthur to chuckle a bit as they watched the Aerodactly fly off and Rodriguez seemed to feel invigorated as she turned over to the crew with a grin. "Seems we have some interesting allies, no we have all the more reason to ensure we do our part! Wiz are the drones in position?" Rodriguez asked as Penny from the ship seemed to scan around as she seemed to see most of them were in their designated areas.

"About 95% of them have landed in their designated spots, should be all set with our eye in the sky in five." Penny replied as Rodriguez nodded along. "Alright, then let's get patrol underway, once we know the layout of the city we can set up spots for scouting while the drones cover our blind spots. Be sure to be primed and ready for anything that might happen~!"

"Yes captain!"

Wilford's eyes noticeably widened as he saw the Jangmo-o's maneuver under Esther's orders, his surprise preventing him from ordering Togepi to dodge. Even if he had, the Fairy Type was so surprised that she could only manage to tuck herself into her shell before impact.

How could she have possibly known that'd work? Did she practice with her Jangmo-o?

Whether this was a premeditated maneuver or a stroke of inspiration was irrelevant; Togepi had been launched in the air, landing near a rock formation eight feet away from her original position. Knowing that he'd have to check on her, Wilford swiftly walked towards his Togepi, hoping less for her safety and more for a chance of victory. His hopes were answered when Togepi emerged from her shell. Though heavily damaged, the Egg Pokémon was capable of continuing the fight. Keen on attacking before the dust had settled, Wilford issued another command.

"Fairy Wind."

The Togepi used her inhalation time to focus her aim before unleashing yet another blast of pixie dust at the Dragon Type. Though the corners of his lips slightly tugged upward, the rich young man stared at the battle in front of him ruminating on the possible outcomes.

She might try another protect, but that's likely to fail. Will she try yet another stunt, or is she going to throw in the towel..?

So, he was just going to keep spamming Fairy wind! What a bitch!

Esther grumbled, but she was already looking for a solution. She could…have Pyrrha keep rolling and hide in the tall grass? Yea, that might work but then what? Another round of trying to close in on Togepi to dish out enough damage to K.O. it? Esther liked waiting two months a challenge as much as the next guy, but thank, no thanks!

For her first official trainer battle, she was pretty satisfied and— “Huh? Oh shi– Pyrrha! Hey! Pyrrha! Stop! Turn off Protect!” Evidently, while getting the ball rolling hadn’t been hard, getting the ball to stop rolling was another task in its entirety. Sure enough, Pyrrha quickly rolled past the boundaries of the battlefield and into the tall grass; she only picked up speed as she hit a hill and Esther had no choice but to hike up her skirt and give chase.

“UH, thanks for the battle Ummm—Wilbert? But I gotta run! Byyyeee!”

And with that she was off!

Motostoke Outskirts, Galar Region
Team: Chimchar, Grookey, Panpour, Togepi
Interactions: Esther Sophys (@kyuukestu)

Wilford tilted his head as he watched his opponent's subsequent actions. First, she demonstrated her novice status by trying to "turn off" Protect, her attempts at regaining control caused Wilford to chuckle at her expense. But more humorous than her words were her actions: picking up her skirt and chasing after her Pokémon in....less than athletic attire. Though she got the name wrong, that didn't stop Wilford from chuckling until she disappeared into the horizon.

"How does she run in those lemon pepper stepper boots?" Wilford scratched his head while returning Togepi to her Pokéball, "No matter a win is a win." Satisfied in his Togepi's performance, Wilford placed her ball in his briefcase and began heading back to his room. Without anyone to talk to, the only thing that kept him occupied were his thoughts.

Perhaps with some foresight I could've grabbed some points for my ranking...then again, it'd be ill-advised for a trainer as inept as her to register. I don't think they make ranks lower than 99,999.

『 Pyrrha | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- 』
Interactions: Wilford Pine (@sSoul)

It took a few minutes, but a slightly winded Esther had finally caught Pyrrha and arrested her momentum. The hoplessly dizzy Wyrm could barely even walk and after watching her stumbled about in a tizzy, Esther had laughed and then scooped her up. The Oblivian pressed a palm into the drake’s feathers and gave her an affectionate toussle.

“Good work girl! That was a great battle even if you were at a disadvantage, and that was an even greater escape! I heard you lose money if you lose a trainer battle? Hehe! We managed to pulll a fast one on that Wibert fellow.”

A confused coo answered. Obviously, Pyrrha had no idea what her trainer was talking about. But despite having lost the battle, they had won the war.

“We’d better skeddadle before he comes looking for his money, he looked like the snobby type so he might actualy do it!”

To keep her finances secure, Esther figured she’d better circle around the city to avoid any…unwanted encounters.

“Apparently there’s a lake nearby that’s a popular spot for campers! Let’s go check it out!”

Mentions: Blazed Hearts Crew - Rodriguez, Arthur, Maddie, Zeke, Penny (Godjacob)

After having a nice chat with the Blazed Hearts Crew, Aero took his trainer towards East Lake Axewell and Axew's Eye. The survey of Axew's Eye was very quick considering it's just an island. East Lake Axewell took some time, but she finally was able to send an addendum to the list she sent earlier. It only took her a few hours.

That was when she noticed an email to head back to the center for a debriefing. "Oh, shit. Alright, time to go. Hope we're not late." Naka left on her Aero, flying back to Motostoke quickly while adding in her list and sending it to the same people her list continuation.

Re: Wild Pokemon Aggression
Addendum:
From first to last, most aggressive to least aggressive, with those within the dashed part of the list having a more fluctuating aggression when you target weaker Pokemon or those under their protection.

Once Aero landed, Naka had finished her report and returned her Pokemon. She finally walked into the city hall to get debriefed, hoping she wasn't too late.
