Monthly Signature Contest

I really do not know if this is the right place but then the heading said suggetions.

I have seen in many other sites that the hold a 'monthly best signature' contest.
Hence I was wondering whether we coul have the same just to make this site even more enjoyable and visitable.

(if this idea gains acceptance i will send in the rule too.)

The only problem with that is the sheer number of people here. I wouldn't much fancy looking through some 1000 members looking for a decent signature, and I'm sure the other mods feel the same way.

I agree with El, here. Though, I'm not at all against the idea of some sort of regular contest on the forums - so any other ideas are certainly welcome.

The signature contest might work, if there was a system to keep the numbers down, like a signature can only be judged if the owner has over a certain amount of posts. (Then again, people who mainly post in the WiFi or Misc forums might miss out)

Maybe a caption contest, with the pics taken from the Anime? I can't think of anything else, I seem to be lacking creativity this morning

That reminds me of the What Are They Saying? competition. An image of a manga is taken, text removed and people who want to compete have to put in something funny, and whoever the funniest is wins.

Actually that would probably be better than all of us going and hunting down our favorite screenies and submitting them. Everyone using the same pic and everyone coming up with unique captions would work a lot better, judging is all on the caption not what awesome pic you could find to go along with it.

Why not a sig competition, but members have to actively state they are going to be entering. That way we don't have to look at every sig on the forums...

I really like that idea. Someone could scan some pics from a Pokemon manga, or any manga, and put in funny text! Like in Nick Magazine!

I'm not to fond of Sig competions. How many things would they display? I would guess a lot of them would have the same idea and use stuff over and over again, making it boring for the all the mods.

The idea of a caption contest or stuff like it sounds good though.

Most sites that have that its the people that make their own signature in Photoshop or GIMP or something. We dont have that many graphic artists here for that kind of stuff.

We can limit the entries in the sign contest too. for eg. we can make a new topic in which the interested participants can post their signatures.
we can also use some of the top spriters of this site(like jeydis) as the judges rather than the mods.

To help keep the member entries down you could make all the contests first come first serve. The first 20 people to post they want in get to be in that months contest, and then they have to wait a certain amount of time before entering another one. Just an idea, can't wait to see which contest takes place.

I'm not sure the numbers would be as bad as people think since every member wouldn't be interested anyways, and our casual member numbers are much lower than our total member numbers. Like Nem and a few others have said, all you'd really have to do is get everyone interested in entering to post in a single topic. That way, you could quickly run through the thread and have all of the signatures right there and available to judge.

Everyone has different talents, so no matter what type of contest we decided to do it wouldn't be something every single member could participate in. That basically goes for any contest that's more than a raffle, though, so I'm not too fussed about it. All of these ideas could work - just depends on which people are most interested in.

We can also arrange for a prize for the top three winners.(some thing like a custom trainer card and that) ;D

Manga's not so easy to do, but anime screenshot caption sounds fine and dandy to me.

If everyone agrees, I'll also sort out a weekly update thing on the main site about it should it go ahead.

I kinda prefer for that anime screenshot caption thingie to the signature thing. I personally think there aren't too many overly original signatures out there, and the same people with the same signature might enter over and over again. With a screenshot, though... well, the screenshots would be different (hopefully), so therefore the captions would also be different.

I think, a mod would post a screenshot, and then people post their entries.

It might be eaiser to score, because everyone is coming up with thing for the SAME Picture/Screenshot.

Well, you're going to have to announce when we're going to talk about it in the chatroom, which time zone the time you're talking about is (how do you put it...), and what day the judging will be. And is it that everyone decides the best one, or only the mods and admins?

I think that is a great idea, better than my sign contest.

Just two questions:

Will there be any announcement about its debut/beginning ?

and

Will there be any prizes?(so as to attract more and more contestants)

As a side note, I can probably find some manga images that could have the words taken out fairy easily. Let me know if you wanna do that idea or just the caption one.

What I've decided to do is start the contest at some point tonight, which will run until Sunday night, when at about 9pm GMT those of us in the chatroom shall judge for a winner. Said winner gets posted to the site, new contest with a new pic starts the next day.

If you're a winner, you get a pat on the back. :)
