Reeze awoke from his nap when he heard a scream outside. The guards were probably pushing the townsfolk around again. He really didn't want to get involved, but SOMEONE had to. And he was the only one left willing to push back against the corrupted military, it seemed. Grabbing a sword with the blade wrapped in bandages and slinging it over his shoulder, he poked his head out the door and looked about. This time it was a girl about his age in ragged clothing, being harassed by two guards. As she ran, she clutched the bread she stole to feed her family. After the girl passed, Reeze stuck his foot out and tripped the two guards over. With a yell, they tumbled about twenty feet downhill, and faceplanted in the dirt road. "Don't you two know how to treat a lady?" he asked with a chuckle. The running thief stopped and watched as he walked between them and her. "No, you probably don't. You military have always been scum."
"You've got some nerve, punk!" One of the guards yelled angrily as his partner spit out some dirt. "Tripping us over, then insulting us?! Don't you remember that WE'RE the one's keeping you safe from pirates?!"
"First of all, not all pirates are out to kill. Some of them are even willing to risk their lives to help others." Reeze pointed out. "Second, you guys make pirates look tame, given that you do whatever you want with the townsfolk you're supposed to be guarding. The only reason I'M the one standing up against you is because everyone else is afraid to." A smile came across his face, as from his sleeve, he drew out three of his trademark throwing scalpels. "So tell me, who's the real punk here?"
"I'll give you to the count of five to get out of our way, or we'll kill you along with that thief!" the other guard shouted, drawing his sword.
"One...two...three..."
"Five." Reeze stated, and he hurled the scalpels at the guards. They narrowly missed their heads and landed in the road behind them, cutting their cheeks, but not doing much else. The two guards ran up to him, ready to cut him down. Reeze, however, whirledaround their swords as he grabbed the handle of the sword on his back. Swinging it, he clubbed one of the guards on the head, knocking him out. The other one tried to retaliate, but he was parried and knocked out as well. After putting his sword away, he walked up to the girl and helped her up. "You know, with a face like that, it'd be hard to believe you came from the town slums." Reeze smiled.
"Um...thank you..." the girl said, blushing a bit at the compliment. "F-for saving me, I mean!"
"Don't mention it, ma'am. A gentleman like myself must always help a lady in need." Reeze said, taking her hand and kissing it. "Now fly off, o angel, your family is waiting for that bread." The girl, now beet red in the face, simply nodded and took off again as Reeze walked back into his office to resume his nap.
