Ask to Join Percy Jackson: Darkened Sun (Discussion)

Sorry for taking so long... and only having one bio done. I've been sick since Saturday and just finished Alex. Will get the other two out when I can.

Name: Alexandra (Alex) Richards
Age: 16
Gender: Non-binary (Fem-leaning, strictly they/them pronouns)
Sexuality: Aroace
Godly parent: Apollo
Appearance: Their hair is meant to be a bit browner, but this was the closest to their hair color.

Personality: Alex is reserved for a child of Apollo. They are friendly, yes, but they prefer to keep to themselves. They enjoy playing the older sibling role to those in the Apollo cabin and try their best to be a good role model. They also tend to be a stickler for the rules. Despite this, they are not the ‘boring rule follower’ and do enjoy jokes and light pranking (as long as no one gets into trouble. That is very important.) They do tend to be pretty anxious. Extremely anxious.
Alex cannot lie. Not literally, but figuratively.
Backstory: Alex never knew either of their bio-parents growing up. Their mother died when they were still a baby (one) and their dad was a god. They were adopted by a pair of strict Christian fundamentalists who were struggling to have children of their own. They were treated well by their new parents, even after they were able to have biological children in the twins, Evan and Ethan.

Despite Alex’s adoptive parents treating them well, Alex had a lot of high expectations placed upon them. Their parents wanted them to be the perfect Christian daughter, after all. Something that did not come naturally to Alex. After all, they had both ADHD and dyslexia, even if they were never diagnosed (their parents refused to even look into a diagnosis, insisting that Alex was just being lazy.) Alex still did their best, though.

Alex had a very good relationship with their step-brothers. After all, as they got older, they were expected to help care for them. Evan and Ethan tended to cause less trouble for Alex, as long as they performed a favor for them, said favor being anything from “forgetting” to end their allotted TV time (if Alex did this, they typically decided to perform chores on the other side of the house) to helping them with a “project” (which was typically something kinda interesting).

When Alex became twelve, she was attacked by a monster for the first time. She was out for a walk with Evan and Ethan. She would’ve died if she wasn’t saved by someone who was also a demi-god. A 13-year-old named George Baker. He claimed that he was a child of Demeter and that Alex was a demi-god too. Alex didn’t believe him. They couldn’t believe him. After all, Demeter was just part of Greek mythology, and the mist was still actively working against Alex at the time, making the monster attack seem somewhat normal. Though one of her brothers was freaking out more than normal, insisting that the creature that attacked Alex was not normal at all, it was some sort of monster. George continued with his explanation, Alex finally going along with it, albeit hesitantly. He told her about Camp Half-Blood, and apologized for hurting them when he jumped in.

When Alex and their brothers got back home, Alex's mother did not react well. After all, Greek gods were nothing more than myth, and were inferior to the one true God. By saying that she (misgendered on purpose here. Alex's mom's POV) could be a Greek demi-god, Alex was sinning. On purpose.

The relationship between Alex and their parents only got worse from that day. Fortunately, Evan and Ethan had their back through it all. Even after Alex insisted that they were not going to return home and stay at CHB, they stayed in contact with the two.

Magical abilities:
  • Walking truth detector (high accuracy rate)

  • can inflict a rhyming curse
  • Healing song (broken due to the disappearance of Apollo)
  • Pain transfer/Absorption (Share the owies! The pain has to go somewhere, and Alex typically heals you up, but she’s injured now. Or, they can transfer the pain they have to someone else, they rarely do this, though.)

  • Injury/Vitals Sensor (they can sense just how injured someone is with a touch)
  • Immune to sunburns and can stare at the sun
  • Disease arrows (only minor diseases like a cold and this takes a lot of energy)
  • Natural musician/poet
  • Natural archer
Other: Alex is a year-round camper. I have a plan for them, do not team up with them.

Robin's bio is finally here!

Name: Robin Arborman
Age: 12
Gender: Female
Sexuality: Undetermined
Godly parent: Aphrodite

Appearance:
As with all of Aphrodite’s children, Robin is very visually appealing. Her skin is pale an clear, unmarred by acne or moles. No matter how much time she spends outdoors she never seems to get sunburnt or even get a significant tan. She has slightly wavy ash blonde hair which goes halfway down her back, and her eyes are a beautiful pale blue. She’s currently 4’7 but still growing, and she’s pretty slim, although she has a decent amount of muscle beneath the surface thanks to standard camp training. Her outfits vary, but it's not uncommon to see her in a camp tee and jeans.

Personality:
Robin is a sweet kid, but a little shy. She isn’t normally very talkative, but she can be pretty persuasive when she does speak. She can be rather skittish with new people, and is mostly reserved even with people she likes and is comfortable with. She likes playing with and talking to birds, and will often go out into the fields or the edge of the woods to look for them when she doesn’t have chores or training to worry about.

Backstory:

Geoffrey Arborman was a well-to-do man. He had a great job, a fancy house, and a pretty young wife. As with many, though, he was eager for more. Whether that meant purchasing some shiny new toys or chasing that next promotion, much in his life revolved around his own monetary gain. By the time he was in his thirties he was able to indulge his desires in nearly any way he pleased. That was what led him to hardly hesitate when a woman even more beautiful than his wife showed interest in him at a party one night. Desire turned to a night of passion, and although he never saw her again, that night would linger with him in more ways than one. Cheating once changed him. He got away with it once, so he tried it again, then again.

It seemed he was getting away with no consequences until an infant showed up on their doorstep. Geoffrey’s poor judgement had come back to bite him, and now he was confronted with offspring he didn’t expect or even particularly want. However, some lingering sense of guilt or responsibility led him to try taking the child in. He convinced his wife to take the infant in while they ‘tried to find out where the kid came from’. He had thought to at least make certain who the mother was through security footage, but the cameras didn’t show anyone approaching the house. It was almost as if the baby had spontaneously appeared on their doorstep. Fortunately or unfortunately, depending on how one viewed it, his wife Julie began getting attached during those early days, and they agreed to try to ‘adopt’. Baby Robin joined the family, and after a short period of adjustment, it seemed that all was going well. The more secure Geoffrey began to feel, the more the temptations returned. He began falling back into bad behavior. A few weeks after Robin’s second birthday, Julie confronted him with evidence of his faithlessness.

The divorce was messy. There were a lot of emotions and just as much shouting. Julie wanted at least partial custody of Robin, but between the financial situation she found herself in along with the fact that Robin was biologically his (among several other circumstances), Geoffrey got custody. It hurt, but Julie had to distance herself so she could rebuild her life. Robin was too young to understand any of what was going on, and as she grew, her father never explained much. He was always busy with work, spending a couple of hours with her afterwards before sending her off to bed.

Robin ended up going to private schools for most of her time in education. She excelled at her hobbies, but didn’t do very well academically. Her teachers figured out she had dyslexia and tried to help her with it, but they could only help so much, and even once she started getting better at unscrambling the letters and using context of easier words nearby to figure out what a word was supposed to be, she was still only doing fairly average work. Her father wasn’t particularly pleased at her coming home with Cs on most assignments, but he never did much to help her learn. He saw it as her teachers’ responsibility to make sure she understood - it was what he was paying them for, after all.

As Robin got older she began to notice her dad’s friends coming over for sleepovers, and also that he was starting to go out after she went to bed more often. The house began to smell like smoke in the evenings, and eventually it started to linger faintly all day long. When she asked her dad about having sleepovers of her own, he just told her that she could have them when she was a little older. She was eleven years old when he finally agreed to let her have a sleepover with her friends. It was set for her twelfth birthday party, and the normally reserved girl was chattering happily about everything she wanted to do for the party.

Then, one day, her dad didn’t come home from work. She spent most of the evening afraid, a sense of dread growing inside of her as the evening grew later and later with no sign of her dad. When she finally heard someone at the door, she felt relief, but when it didn’t open on its own her heart sank again. She went to check, and then… everything was a blur. A police officer, a lady in a dress, the news that her father had died of a heart attack - it was all muted and fuzzy.

She cried a lot. She was still crying when Officer Ivan said he’d bring her somewhere safe and guided her into a police car. She didn’t remember doing much besides crying herself to sleep, and although Mr. Ivan was very kind to her and did his best to help her, she felt empty inside. Eventually he told her wanted to take her to meet her dad’s ex-wife and asked if she would be okay with it. She numbly agreed, and Mr. Ivan took her to the meeting. It went about as well as one could expect, and although the woman was practically a stranger to her, Robin managed to find some comfort in the tender way Ms. Julie treated her.

It was a bit of a process, but thanks to the help of Mr. Ivan and several other adults, Robin went to stay with Ms. Julie. They went to her father’s funeral together, and Ms. Julie also got her to go to therapy. She didn’t exactly like it, but it helped a little. The woman who’d apparently been her mom when she was very little was kind to her, but it wasn’t the same. She still missed her dad, even though she was starting to warm up to her ‘mom’. She still just called her Ms. Julie, and the woman seemed okay with that.

As summer drew near, things began to change again. Mr. Ivan returned to check on her, and also to explain some things to both Robin and her mom. The officer brought a teen named Sam with him, and displayed things that disrupted their understanding of the world. Apparently Robin could do things Sam did — she, like the teen, was a ‘demigod’. Apparently her father really hadn’t been able to hear what the pigeons were saying all those years. Further, there was a whole camp of kids like her, and they wanted to have her come stay with them for part of the year. She wasn’t sure how she felt about it. She was just getting used to living with Ms. Julie, and going somewhere new again was scary. However, it seemed there were also safety concerns, and in the end Ms. Julie also gave permission to go.

In the first month at camp a lot of things started changing. She got claimed by her actual mother, and Aphrodite’s blessing gave her a makeover for a couple of days. She went back to normal after that, but she started trying to style the hair the same way as it had been during those few days. If that was what her mom liked, surely it wouldn’t hurt to try and keep it that way. It was a little too complex to do on her own, so she figured out something close enough to do herself, although she did sometimes think of asking one of her new half-siblings to help. She was a little skittish around them still. Most were older than her, and while they weren’t unkind, she was still getting used to them and wasn’t entirely at ease with them yet.

Robin found she somewhat liked being at camp, but with how new everything was, she still felt a bit overwhelmed. She’s trying to do her best to fit in and find her place in it all, although so far she doesn’t feel she’s done very well.

Weapons: She currently has very little training, but in the little she’s done she’s taken most to the bow and arrow.

Magical abilities:
  • Aura of Emboldenment: While active, nearby allies feel encouraged and their competency is slightly enhanced.
  • Charmspeak: Robin can use Charmspeak, magically influencing people to follow her suggestions. Her words are often laced with it unintentionally, but she generally avoids directly controlling people with it.
  • Emotional Influence: She can invoke and tweak strong emotions such as love, hatred, envy, etc. although she prefers to avoid doing so.
  • Emotional Insight: She can get a good sense of someone’s emotions by observing them.
  • Natural Grace: Robin can communicate with, charm, and befriend birds, very Disney Princess style.
  • Illusory Augmentation: While focusing, she can create visual stimuli near her person - the ability is traditionally used for effects such as a subtle glow or other visual enhancement, but with enough focus can also be used to alter an area for concealment, change the lighting, etc.
  • Soothing Presence: By focusing, she can suppress pain and help an ally keep fighting. She can also perform minor healing, although at this point she struggles to do more than mend scrapes and bruises.

Other: Once more, for old times’ sake… DERP.

Cool I think Robin is the only character shorter than Anastasia, woo Anastasia isn't smallest anymore.
