((OC: That's fine. We'll postpone your fights until later.))
Carrie reached up to pat the Rilou on its head. "He's cute," She said, whipping out her 'Dex and recording the data. "He's a fighting type, right? He looks like one." She turned to smile at Ben. "And thanks. My Pokemon have seen a lot, but I wouldn't change them for the world."
Espeon scoffed, turning his head away from his mushy trainer. Jolteon twitched his ears in acknowledgement and looked up briefly, grinning at her with his eyes. Raichu stopped her shadow boxing and put her paw behind her head, 'chu'ing in embarassment.
A sudden, loud, rhythmic drumming caught her attention, and she leapt away from the stage as it started to shake. A voice clicked on over the intercom.
"Welcome, Pokemon trainers and spectators alike! Today is the premier of the Pokemon Festival's new annual event: The Plateau Challenge! This event is meant to test those who hope to enter the League each coming year, and those who win can consider themselves well prepared.
Now for the Rules: Use of Dragonite and Gyarados is restricted. Every battle except the last will be two-on-two battles. Only three Pokemon per trainer may be used, and no switchouts are allowed. Each Round consists of two battles. The victors of these battles will proceed to the next round, and the victors of that battle will then compete against their partner for First Place. You can find the list of prizes on the bulletin board over there," A light shined down on said bulletin board, ten feet away from the small group, "and the Tournament will start when both teams are on the stage.
First battle: Sonjo from Oldale Town and Carrie from Pallet Town against Jeanne from Azalea Town and Lsyerg from Ecruteak City. Will both parties please step onto the stage?"
Carrie cheered. "Cool! Sonjo, we're on the same team!" She grabbed him by the arm and began to drag him onto the stage. Her Pokemon followed her excitedly. "Let's go!"
