Private/Closed Pokémon Hero Tournament

Shen: King of Digimon

Hm I'd think that golurk is extremely close to defeat, its defenses are all but down, but at the position it's in, I think it's going for the kill shot. Kind of like a wrestler would pin down someone in a vulnerable position

I'm not sure. I thought Golurk would be defeated by the super effective ice move. If it was just ground I think he would survive that. Hm. Giving him an extra appendage mid combat may be a little OP? Lol

Well, if a Pokemon is borderline defeated, any move would be able to knock it out. Not just super effective ones. You aren’t battling with a Shedninja.

Thanks haha, well at least your team has improved with that for whoever you fight next :) also, can I still be around and not be in the tournament in this roleplay?

I was going to ask about a loosers bracket. That way the losers would still be able to RP with other losers. We can end with a true leaderboard. I mean, I could beat Shen, but Shen could beat another trainer who lost. That way, we have placements.

Oh nah we didn't have a private chat. Lol usually in roleplays though a person always drops out. So there's a large chance I could take the place of someone who would leave. You never know :p

Well thanks Glaceon trainer haha. But I think I have an idea. We were talking about double battles at one point, or a battle royal. What if either side could choose one competitor to help out on their side?

Okay due to missing competitors, @Pretty Pichu will be taking the spot of @ReaperTheSoulEater, and @MegaAbsol, who's been discussing things for a while with me, will replace @The Roserade.

So Pichu, you're at Ten Karot Hill and Mega you're at Melemele Meadow. Good luck.

uhh Ry, you posted that twice

Welp, this took a while. Here is my form!

Name: Freya Togari
Age: 17
Gender: Female
Height: 5’5
Weight: 64 kg
Physical Appearance: Practically a doe-eyed beauty, Freya bears her scars very well with soft smiles and gentle gestures. Long, wavy hair frames her face, with a single streak of blue running through the brown locks. Sea green eyes shine dazzlingly in an otherwise tanned face, highlighting a thin, silvery scar along her left eye. She has several other wounds and cuts along her body, the most prominent being a large slashed scar arcing from her rib to her hip. She has an incredibly athletic build, with strong limbs and a mean throw.
Clothing: To cover her many wounds, Freya tends to wear full clothing, regardless of the weather. Thin cotton gloves to her elbow, knee high socks, full-sleeved shirts or jackets and jeans. Wearing little to no accessories, she prefers simply dressing when the opportunity presents. She can be rather experimental with her hair (hence the blue streak), but regular wear demands a plain ponytail. She has adopted toting around a scarf (since ‘she never knows when she might need it’), and carries a large sling bag, which carries all her equipment.
Personality: Freya is happiest left to her own devices, although she never grudges any company offered to her. Her diverse history meant she couldn’t make any lasting friends, and so she gets along better with pokemon. Her wanderlust is sated by her current profession, and she couldn’t be happier. A voracious reader, she can typically be found with a book and some writing material – her bookworm tendencies mean she is also theoretically proficient with pokemon, but lacks the actual experience with them. She prefers solitude, and her intense curiosity for pokemon almost always leads to her strolling in the wild. While wistful for a settled life, she can’t stand being at one place for too long; despite this, once something catches her attention, she tends to be completely focused on it.
She is persistent, even stubborn, and while impulsive, she is generally a sensible thinker. She doesn’t make friends easily, and is slow to trust, but when she does, she can be extremely loyal and a great companion – even if she is a bit clingy. She’s very passionate about her interests, and most of her emotions are intense. Despite that, she has her own principles, and is unwilling to sway from them. She hates criticism, tending to rely on herself, and would rather get lost than ask for directions. Honest, creative and intelligent, Freya can be sensitive at times, but generally bounces back from any negative mood. Cheeky with her familiars, hopeful and wise, she works unflinchingly to achieve her goals
Skills: A fast reader and a decent artist, Freya is more attuned to an outside life. She’s agile, hardy, and can cook decent meals. She’s incredibly analytical, and formulates ideas for success quickly. She’s an efficient solo worker, and a realist at heart, gauges and compares things accurately.
Strengths:
· Strength: Freya is physically strong from her days of wandering. She also carries a heavy bag full of equipment and books, and so isn’t quite the fragile doll she looks like.
· Versatile: The female has been to many regions in a short period of time, and so has experienced diverse cultures. She has learnt many things from them, and so can be quite charming and sophisticated.
· Intelligent: From her many years of reading books and travelling with pokemon, Freya is pretty smart and is great with numbers. She can come up with great ideas when competitively battling.
Weaknesses:
· Team player: Is what she’s not. She doesn’t work well with other people, often of the opinion that they just get in the way. She’s used to an independent lifestyle, and often doesn’t share even with her pokemon.
· Prepared: She plans everything in advance, rather like a game of chess, and so can be badly thrown off if something doesn’t go according to plan. She struggles to improvise on the go.
· Stubborn: She can be assertive and impossible to bend. She’ll go ahead with what she thinks is right, and refuses to do anything she doesn’t want to.
Goal: To continue with her journey of documenting pokemon and to delve further into the mathematical part of battling pokemon. She wants to become a scientist and research on the benefits of the new concept of ‘EV training’.
Relationships:
Sasha Togari: Mother. An incredibly supportive woman, she was the pivotal character in allowing Freya to start her journey as early as she did. Not very close to her daughter since they rarely meet, but is always cheering from the sidelines.
Reiner Togari: Father. The primary opposer to Freya leaving so early. He would rather have her locally challenge the gyms instead of region-hopping as she did. Friends with Professor Oak, and so allowed his daughter to leave on behalf of a great deal of trust.
Professor Oak: The cause for Freya travelling as she is. The one who gave her Pan, and funded the initial years of her study and research. Is currently being greatly helped by Freya and her research, and all captured pokemon end up at his lab (excepting the ones she keeps).
Backstory: The mark of a great scholar was always visible: Freya had taught herself to read by the age of four, and was always found with a book clasped in her tiny hands, quietly reading while her mother tidied the house. Sasha was a primary school teacher, so giving up on her job to take care of her daughter wasn’t a new or jarring change to her. She swept the small child up in her arms, murmuring short stories of pokemon and legends as she awaited her husband’s return.
Reiner worked hard to support his family, his meager salary as a menial worker just enough to pay the bills. Things had been leaner since Sasha had quit her job, and he looked forward to when Freya would be accompanying her back to the preschool. So, it had come as quite a shock when, just a couple of years into her schooling, Professor Oak had recommended Freya be sent to the Trainer School. Many nights were spent in heated argument – ‘She’s smart, but where’s the money?’ ‘Dear, this is what she’s always wanted!’
It was true Freya didn’t quite fit in the preschool. She was at least a year ahead, found the homework easy and was in much chagrin at how there was no lessons regarding pokemon. The history and foreign languages ground away at her, and the conflict at home didn’t help much. She spent more and more time outside, wandering the forests of Viridian. She was too young to know not to pet the Caterpies; no one was around to stop her from running her fingers down the motionless Metapods; she couldn’t resist making friends with the resident hordes of Butterfree. She even got poisoned from a scratch from a (very apologetic) Weedle’s horn, and it was when she accepted the antidote injections with a grin that Oak made up his mind. He would fund her studies himself.
Sasha fretted and Reiner grew grim, masking the spark of pride, as the day closer. Neither had been prepared to part with their baby girl so soon, but the eight-year old had no qualms of leaving family and home behind. The sheer joy hadn’t faded when she returned two years after, grin just as wide when she agreed to help Oak out in his research. It started small – capturing and documenting the local wildlife. He even provided her a Porygon2 for her protection – it actually evolved when he transferred it over to her PokeDex. And so, the ten-year old with big dreams set out.
Her area of search quickly panned out in a few, short years. Pan had grown strong, stronger than Oak had expected at Freya’s hands, and she had even obtained a rare item for her pokemon. She was rapidly gaining acclaim at her prowess, and had netted a few badges. She was earning enough by her wins to fund her own flight to Hoenn, where she met Abyss.
The Absol was strong – he quickly bested Pan; Pan, who Freya had thought invincible. Clutching her sole pokeball to her chest, tears welling, she turned to leave – only to find her way blocked. The Absol circled, never engaging, but not allowing escape either. It was just as well Absol’s weren’t pack members – a whole team of Absol’s would have doubtless ripped her apart. Death by pokemon was not uncommon, and yet…
Freya was thirteen, still young. She knew the basics of self-defense, but otherwise had no protection against the Disaster pokemon. The canid wouldn’t back off even when she yelled at it, and no one was attracted to her calls for help. Finally, by the time the pokemon had evidently had enough to stalking around her, the teenager had made up her mind. She relished the look of surprise on the pokemon’s face as she leaped for him; it was impossible for an adolescent human to win against an adult pokemon. This she knew, and yet when she pinned the flailing canid, as big as herself, under her, bleeding from a dozen scratches and cuts, she couldn’t help but feel a sense of achievement. The Absol had since not responded to her questions of whether he had held back on purpose or not, but that day Freya gained a new ally.
It took her a few weeks to recover from her many wounds – Abyss had escaped relatively unscathed, except for being punched about a bit, and getting the wind knocked out of him by an elbow. Her daily cajoling to constrain him within a pokeball fell on deaf ears, and to this day the Absol walks alongside the girl, wild and unyielding. (It leads to a bit of trouble when they sign up for events where pokemon registration is required, and he often has to sit them out when he’s not allowed in!)
Somnus was a gift from the good Professor but a year later, and Freya struggled to find a good sync with the pokemon. Many of the pokemon she had caught wished to travel alongside her, but most were turned down and sent to the lab regardless. Somnus, Freya had an unkind inkling, didn’t wish to accompany her at all. He was docile, and obedient for the most part (as long as he was well fed) but showed little other emotion. He didn’t take any efforts to bond or otherwise go out of his way. He simply delivered what was expected of him – a powerhouse of a tank. He did his job battling, and that was the end of it.
Gabriel was next. She found him as a young Gible during her capture missions (documentary included capturing every new species she found) but his Hidden Ability was what led Freya to keep him. She was of the opinion that with special training, she could bring him up better than Oak could, what with his attention divided among so many pokemon. She visits the lab once a year to help out the ageing Professor, and picks up several vital pieces of advice on bringing up Dragon types.
She has had her fair share of spelunking in the name of justice. On cracking down on a certain pokemon trafficking group, she battled her way to the storehouse, where wild and owned pokemon alike were held captive. She offered Gabriel, by then a fully-evolved Garchomp, in return for releasing the pokemon. While the grunts struggled to control the massive dragon, Freya was quick in freeing the caged pokemon. One thing led to the next, namely a mutiny, and Freya rather proudly liked to believe she shut down that branch of the organization that day, leading to several people ending up in jail (and she got her Gabriel back!). Regardless, she scored greatly that day, taking along some of the more willing pokemon to the lab, as well as earning two new teammates. Arachne and Musume weren’t evolved at that point, and their training offered her valuable insight in working with many different kinds of pokemon.
Lastly, Koda was a surprise addition, a young pokemon who encountered the travelling group while they were abroad, and refused to stop tagging along. The youngster was attracted to Gabriel, the epitome of power, and naturally gravitated around the fellow Dragon type. Unable to shake him off, the party quickly resigned to accepting him as a teammate. Koda’s species is naturally attracted to power and honour, and so the little dragon type trains hard every day (alongside his idol, no less!)

Other:

It’s worth mentioning that Koda, being a young and new addition to the team, doesn’t battle. He prefers spending his time outside his pokeball when he’s not training, often snagging free rides on Abyss’ back. Abyss is not bound to a pokeball, and as mentioned in the history, is the one who scarred Freya.

Should I drop the whole French thing? I admit I don't have a very strong grasp on the language, and I imagine it must be annoying to send anyone reading to Google Translate whenever I shove in a French word. I could shift to italics to indicate a language barrier if that would be better?

I think it has a nice change and gives your opponent a nice character. And I actually enjoy the French words. It presents a problem and leaves a veil over mystery for the reader and for your OC. I quite enjoy it.
