Pokémon: Myths of Arkhaios (Discussion & Feedback Thread)

Hmmmm reading through other characters and realizing there’s a fair amount of overlap (accidental I’m sure no worries) between Bear’s backstory and a couple others lol. Is anyone particularly opposed to me maybe replacing her with a new character? Unsure but considering, cause I really like the RP concept and have a bunch of ideas but playing more than one character is tough for me ^^
it's a matter of what you want to do. I personally don't care about any overlap with bear. In fact, i think they could be one of the most dynamic characters in the cast. But if you feel like you want to have a different character, that's your call. Bear has enough big differences to stand out from others either way.

I agree. It's up to you. I don't think anybody minds, but if you'd rather play as a different character, that's fine.

RPs are more about fun than originality, right? Do whatever would be the most fun for you.

=Nightshade=

Previously Night's Shadow
If I had a nickel for every time I played a pseudo-feral child raised by Pokemon I would have two nickels, which isn’t a lot but it’s weird that it’s happened twice.

Jokes aside I do like Bear a lot >v< if y’all like her too and don’t mind the parallels then I think I’ll probably keep her ✨

Plus it would add to the narrative that it was “the will of the gods” that she’d be in the right place at the right time to meet the others… could fit well actually!

Okay! Important update.

The good news is that I have compiled a list of potential Arkhaios Regional Variants (I counted 27 entries, including your ideas).

The bad(ish) news is I'll need more time to complete the stats and descriptions. I'd say about a week would be enough. Does that bother anyone?
Take your time! I'll be working on a second Character as a world building Character.

Hi!!! I finally decided to bite the bullet and express interest in this rp. It will take a few weeks though for me to make a character since I need to prioritize school to finish all the big assignment turn ins and tests for this semester. So, no need to wait for me or antyhing ^^'. If you guys are still accepting at that point when I'm more free, I'd happily join!!

Cooking up a regional variant and a new evolution for Rhyhorn and Rhydon with a new final evolution. I'm fine with making up stats etc with your approval @Charlotte Pryce . Don't want to add more to your current load

So far what I've been thinking is that the regional variant would be Ground/Steel with the final evolution using Metal Alloy instead of the Protector item. The whole line drawing more inspiraion from medieval knights and and castles.

Okay, so I more or less figured out Names and Stats. Still some other details to iron out. Really just took the base stats from the originals and shuffled the numbers a bit. I also figured that the abilities don't change throughout their respective evolutions. Will hopefully have more details soon.

Phew! Finally. I have a list of potential regional variants to add to the role-play. Even though I'm not a huge fan of regional starter variants and convergent evolutions, I tried my best to include a bit of everything. I figured the best thing to do was decide on which variants we like and/or want to use before considering the final list. Don't forget @Draco Nightshade designs, either!

Let me know what you think! Enjoy!

~ Arkhaian Regional Forms ~

Meowscarada (Grass/Fairy) “The Magician Pokémon”
Description: Meowscarada brought to this region are much more flashy and dramatic than their Paldean cousins. The white fur around their face resembles a comedy mask, and they have more flowing white fur bound around their body like a toga. They love to have audiences and imitate others in dramatic ways to get a laugh out of people. While not native to the region, they were brought over and bred. They have become quite popular with the highest classes of the Pixie and Meadow tribes. Shiny Arkhaian Meowscarada is bright yellow with a dark purple mask and toga.

They enjoy clashing with each other, and their hard fur serves as an armor of sorts. Like Meowscarada, they weren't native to the region but became popular for their markings and usefulness in gladiator matches. Shiny Arkhaian Emboar is terracotta brown.

They have terrible tempers, and though it takes a while to anger them, their rage will be so catastrophic as to cause the earth around them to shake with fear. Though not native to the region, it was drawn there because the people within it worshiped it as a messenger of the gods. Shiny Arkhaian Empoleon is white with blue accents.

Lucario (Ghost/Psychic Type) "The Aura Pokémon"
Description: Inspired by Anubis, ancient Egypt, and mummy movies, Arkhaian Lucario has yellow bands around its neck, arms, and ankles resembling gold jewelry. The white markings over its head resemble a skull or perhaps an Egyptian headpiece. Again, I cannot think of a better example than this picture. Arkhaios cultists believe this Lucario subspecies holds the key to an eternal paradise. They can read souls, detect liars, and, some claim, can even control a person’s destiny.

Seal Fate [new!] (Type: Ghost, Category: Status, PP: 5) The opposing Pokémon will faint in 3 turns.
Gardevoir (Fairy/Flying Type) "The Embrace Pokémon"
Description: I recommend looking at the harpy Gardevior picture on Reddit. It’s better than any design I envisioned for a Gardevior, guardian angel, valkyrie, and harpy hybrid. Although, I would have gone for a shade of light pink instead of the lilac purple used in the artwork. Both forms of Gardevior can be found in Arkhaios. However, the unusual environment combined with the effect of giving Kirlia a Pretty Feather brings about a mysterious change. Shiny Gardevoir is white and silver with blue eyes.

Gallade (Fairy/Fighting Type) "The Blade Pokémon"
Description: Again, the centaur Gallade picture looks similar to my design. Arkhaian Gallade resembles a centaur or a knight riding a horse, given its blade-shaped arm. While both Gallade variants can be obtained in Arkhaios, this form can only be obtained by leveling up a male Kirlia near a waterfall. Midsummer Night Falls, located in Pixie Tribe territory, is one such location. Shiny Gallade is brown and white with green eyes.

Rapidash (Flying/Steel Type) "The Flying Horse Pokémon"
Description: At level 40, Arkhaian Pontya will evolve into Rapidash. These are the favored mounts of the Sky Tribe, as they are graceful both on land and in the air. Their horns contain powerful magic and have the ability to detect approaching storms. Despite their peaceful appearance, Arkaian Rapidash has a cold-steel kick. Once their power reaches its apex, these Pokémon can conjure Pegusus-like wings made of sunlight. Shiny Arkhaian Rapidash have manes, red eyes, and lightning-colored bodies.

Moves learned on evolution: Air Slash.
Moves learned by a tutor: Wild Charge, High Horsepower, & most weather-related moves.
Houndoom (Dark/Ghost Type) “The Underworld Pokémon”
Description: Arkhaian Houndoom takes inspiration from Cerberus of Greek mythology. Its face is bone-white, and its neck and underbelly are the color of blue fire. Its black body and bone-like markings along its back and ankles are identical to its Johto form. Arkhaian Houndoom is accompanied by two skulls propelled by ghostly blue flames, a homage to Cerberus’s three heads and Arkhaian Houndoom’s ability to recognize and manipulate spectral energy. Houndoom is thought to have some connection to the Arkhaian underworld. Some believe this Houndoom variant guards the gateway to an eternal paradise. Others, a hellish landscape.

Shuckle (Poison/Rock Type) "The Fermentation Pokémon"
Description: Arkhaian Shuckle has a purple and green shell and kiwi-green skin. Toxic bubbles can be seen escaping through the holes in its vase-like shell, where it stores a fermenting liquid. Arkhaian Shuckle prefers to avoid moving too much due to the disorienting effect of its liquid. However, it will lash out at anyone who comes too close. Shiny Shuckle has a pink body with a brown and green shell. It evolves into an Intoxikrait upon receiving a Pithoi Caldron.

~ Arkhaian Convergent Pokémon ~

Sudsbray (Water/Grass Type) “The Seaweed Horse Pokémon”
Description: Sudsbray is a convergent of the Mudbray line. While it has a body shape similar to the Ground Type donkey, its fur is dark shades of blue and green, and its mane and tail resemble clumps of seaweed. This Pokémon and its evolution draw inspiration from the Hippocampus of Greek mythology and the Kelpie of Scottish lore. Sudsbray evolves into Sudsdale at Level 30. Shiny Sudsbray is bright green and blue.

(Water/Grass Type) Sudsdale “The Seaweed Horse Pokémon”
Description: At Level 30, Sudsbray evolves into a convergent evolution of Mudsdale. Again, this Pokémon resembles a dark green and blue copy of the original horse with a seaweed mane. Its tail keeps its seaweed-like texture but takes the shape of something more befitting a fish or a mermaid. Sudsdale makes a powerful steed but can easily overpower and drown unworthy humans who attempt to ride it without winning its respect. Shiny Sudsdale is bright green and blue.

~ New Evolutions ~

Minotauros (Normal/Fighting Type) “The Wild Bull Pokémon”
Description: Legends say the founder of the Fist Clan created a new breed of Tauros by evolving it under immense strain. This bipedal bovine had tan and dark brown fur, three tails, three red nubs trailing down its forehead, and massive curved horns. Minotauros was so violent and aggressive that the only way to control it was by using an enchanted metal ring that pierced the Pokémon’s nostrils. Its wrists and ankles were wrapped in white bandages, and its front hooves became human-like hands. To obtain this evolution, Tauros must be leveled up at low health while enraged and pierced with the Bronze Ring. It is unknown what would happen if Minotauros’s nose ring was removed. Shiny Minotauros is black.

They are the apex predators in swamps, their poisonous breath claiming the lives of many Pokemon and humans. Its multiple heads are much greener, some of them with dizzy eyes. Its shell has taken on a clay cauldron-like appearance with poisonous liquid steaming out of it. Shiny Intoxikrait has a pink body, maroon shell, and green bubbling liquid.

The plate on its chest vaguely resembles a shield, and its tail is like the blade of a sword. Its paws are also clad in tiny metal booties. The Guardeon was once the prized companion and soldier of the Alloy Tribe due to its bravery and unwavering loyalty. However, this Eevee evolution was lost to time due to its difficult evolutionary process and lackluster speed. Description: Drakeon is an indigo-plum-colored Eevee evolution with maroon spines trailing down its back. Its ears resemble dragon wings, and its tail ends in a spade-shaped tip. These Pokémon were once plentiful, especially in the Draco Tribe. However, superstition combined with the introduction of Sylveon and Guardeon led them to be hunted to near extinction. They have a calm and calculating aura about them but are by no means heartless. Drakeon evolves from an Eevee upon using the move Serpentine 12 times in battle while holding a Dragon Scale. Phew!

The white markings over its head resemble a skull or perhaps an Egyptian headpiece. Again, I cannot think of a better example than this picture.

Guardeon evolves from Eevee upon using the move Valiant Blade 12 times in battle while holding a Metal Alloy. Shiny Guardeon is clad in gold and has dark green eyes.

Appearance

Metasaur, Armosaur, Cannosaur

While their Grass/Poison type counterparts have plants growing from their backs, the Cannosaur line are much more metallic. Instead of the bulb that adorns Bulbasaur, Metasaur possesses a metal shield boss. This piece of armor later becomes a full size round shield with the same shield boss in its center that used to rest upon Metasaur's back, now laid across Armosaur's back like a turtle shell. Finally, the same shield still rests on Cannosaur's back in the same fashion as the previous forms. This time however, the shield has gained spikes around the edge that make it look like a circular saw. Beneath the shield is a retractable barrel with a pair of prongs at the business end.
The whole line is almost completely encased in armor, intensifying as it matures. Starting with a simple plate of metal on top of its head as Metasaur, it gains more definition as it evolves. Armosaur's helmet now has a pair of small horns on either side of its head that grow after evolving into Cannosaur. Cannosaur's bottom jaw now resembles the mouth cover of a medieval knight helmet. Each of them also has claws that are part of the armor on their limbs that spreads as they grow. Cannosaur itself also has a pair of ringed spikes that grow from its shoulders that glow with electricity.
Cryomander, Cryomeleon, Cryozard
Unlike their fiery cousins, the Cryozard line appears to be covered in a coat of white fur that is actually scales with natural tufts of transparent hair like fibers that provide insulation and protection. Some of these scales, most notably the ones at the end of the tail, have further developed into feathers. Cryomander has more noticeable finger claws to better travel through the icy environment it calls home. Cryomeleon has developed a feathery crest where Charmeleon's horn would be, looking even more birdlike. Cryozard has a pair of large, birdlike wings upon its back as well as twin crests on its head for display. These crests are smaller in the females. Not to mention an ice mask that doubles as a pair of goggles to protect the eyes during snowstorms.
Dirtle, Aritortle, Desertoise
While easily mistaken for their Water type type cousins that seemed to get into various shades of brown paint, the Desertoise line are strictly land lubbers and are unable to swim. Rather than active hunting, these Pokemon bury themselves in the sand to ambush their prey. Though they will eat the occasional cactus if they find any. As it happens, they each have large, shovel like hands and claws specifically for digging. They can also serve as weapons. The feet are also wider to help prevent them from sinking unintentionally. Strangely, the tails have increased in size and now end in compacted balls of sand that are composed of the various minerals these creatures inevitably consume with their prey. These clubs aren't actually fixed in place, instead being used as replenishable projectiles. While all three can walk like bipeds, this line prefers quadrupedal locomotion to better spred their weight across the sand of their desert home.

Hopefully I can also remedy the appearance too. Thinking that the it's hide will resemble that of a Knight's, to give you guys some more information. But glad you guys seem to like my regional variant so far!
Just a thought, but what if Rhytitan was able to detach and regrow its tail and uses like a heavy lance or something? And maybe the hands vaguely resemble Zekrom's, with shield like appendages.

That might be freaky...Then again, this is Pokémon. I guess it would depend on how it looks as a drawing.

Not that expect anyone to start drawing these! I'm just saying some things are better to grasp once you see them as opposed to trying to visualize them on your own.

I have a few questions for you to help me bust my writer's block.

Question 1) What makes an enjoyable villain, in your opinion? It doesn't have to be specific to Pokémon.

Question 2) Regarding legendaries, are we keeping this role-play 100% legendary Pokémon free? I hadn't planned on including legendary Pokémon in the main plot, but I also hadn't planned to exclude them.

1. I think the most important quality of a villain is a realistic motivation, as I feel it complements and builds on all other qualities of villainy.

2. I think you would need to ask the moderators about that, avoiding using legendaries could make for some more variety.

1. I also agree that a good motivation helps make for a good villian, also showing that they're a genuine threat

2. Including legendaries can make for interesting plotpoints, but I'm fine with them being excluded. Can always be something discussed again later down the line

Not to sound unoriginal, but I agree with Gold and Friday. Not to mention how bringing in the legendaries could be like opening a whole other can of worms.
On another note, I like the variants. Not just mine because that'd be a bit prejudiced, but all the ones I've seen listed.

1.) For me villains need to be approached and created not necessarily from the place of your concept of villainy. Every person deemed evil in history and life had a motivation and almost always its one that in some way feels righteous, just, necessary, natural etc. A great villain in my tastes can't really just be le evil guy everyone hates who's obviously wrong they should moreso highlight perceived flaws that can appear in the broader community or internally, and often its interesting when theyre a response rather than a source. Also its great when their vibe and aesthetic is really considered from their own place. Honestly just getting to know your villain as a person and as a vibe from the ground up cause everything else to naturally be live/dope/awesome

2.) I think people's main apprehension is they want legendaries to be used tastefully. N riding around on Zekrom feels fitting I think because its not super cosmic and you can really imagine those Pokémon respecting N and their relationship looks natural and real. I think people dont wanna see everyone running around commanding cosmic entities but also a lot of legendaries/mythicals arent actually super cosmically influential, theyre mostly just the stuff of myths or legends- ans many non-legendaries are of similar power, legend or myth. No reason Latios, Zapdos, or even Genesect or Meloetta should be treated the same way as Arceus in their magnitude and importance. Maybe take it on a case by case basis and ensure their implication is fluid with pokemon lore, rules/vibes of your world, and the character being presented. If you'd like to maintain some quality control, I'd say maybe have legendaries require your approval for use in the story? And maybe set some certain legendaries that will be considered by all participants to be narrative pieces at most?

edit: ignore the darkrai in my flair this is an unbiased opinion heheheheh

name: Horun
Age: 60
Pronouns: he/him
Tribe: insect tribe affiliated
Class: middle
Occupation: smokescreen bomb maker/distributor
Physical Appearance: a man hunched over with age, sporting a cane. His gray, wispy hair cascades down his back and reaches down to his stomach. He sometimes does it up in a bun of sorts that is traditional for the oldest members of the fist tribe. His skin is white and wrinkled, in classic old person fashion.
Height (optional): 5'7
Hair (optional): Grey
Eyes (optional): black
Clothing (optional): Horun wears deep green robes that reach all the way to his ankles, clinched around his waist with a red felt belt. And don't forget his cane, which he is never seen without! He carved it out in the wilderness way back when he was a wanderer.
Personality: a jaded old man who keeps his speech entirely candid. He does not suffer the company of anyone he dislikes for very long, and he is stubborn as a mule. Once he has decided his opinion, he will rarely if ever change it. Though slightly underneath this exterior is a lonely old man who's been through a lot of hardship. He never forgets to return favors (in the limited amount of ways an old man can) to those who help him.
Skills:
-Making smokescreen bombs: a smokescreen bomb is a device made of various materials that will explode and create a concealing cloud upon hitting something with enough force. Though they aren't rocket science to make, perfecting the radius and reducing the noise it makes is challenging. Horun has made it his life purpose to perfect them, seeing as he has nothing else to do.
-Instruction: as he used to be a combat instructor, he is adept at explaining fighting techniques.
-Foraging: most of the materials in a smokescreen bomb are found naturally. Horun has learned to find these materials more quickly..

Past: while once a prominent member of the fist clan and a combat instructor, he declined in physical capability as he aged and was finally expelled when he crippled his leg while fist-fighting with a student. He was forced to wander into the far wilderness, and eventually crossed paths with the insect tribe. While they were initially suspicious of this odd shaman of the woods, they let him stay outside their colony when he chased a rampaging scolipede away with his heracross. Eventually, a young man taught him how to make smokescreen bombs and he's been perfecting the craft ever since. His craft became so honed that he is sought out to make them for important raids and hunts, and as a result is a highly respected man in the insect tribe. Lately though, his fighting type heart has been yearning for something more, despite it's advanced age..
Family/Relationships: Kyopin (friend, taught him to make smokebombs)

Pokemon

Species: heracross
Nickname:
gender: male
ability:
past: heracross has been with horun for a while, even before he was exiled. The two of them met when Horun was forced to stay in alone the woods for a week as a coming of age ritual in his family. The two of them crossed paths, and they wrestled over some food. When horun won, and split the food with Heracross anyway, Heracross decided to become partners with him.
personality: solemn and proud, Heracross shows no respect for the weak. He is fiercely loyal to his partner, and laments his inability to help Horun around the house properly. He feels a lot of turmoil over the fact that Horun is weakening with age, in fact.

Species: leavanny
nickname:
gender: female
ability:
past: while it spent time in the forest where horun lived, it took care of many people and Pokemon as the matriarch of the forest. However, it noticed that one denizen of it's forest was a crippled old man who lived alone. She would watch him hobble around his home through the windows, seemingly in pain while he performed tasks. She pitied him, as is the classic leavanny way, and wished to help him. Though he initially refused, and protested when leavanny persisted, he eventually learned to accept it. They have formed such a close bond that leavanny even follows him outside her forest home.
personality: a kind and caring matriarch figure, who balances out Heracross's colder qualities. She thinks of herself as the mother of the smokebomb family, and behaves accordingly. Though she hasn't known them as long as they have each other, she is still fiercely protective of them.

I'd be cool with regional variants. where exactly is arkhaios based on?
im sorry dude this is just awesome you had me at 60 yo. smokescreen bomb maker but all the depth and layers really make him feel like such an awesome and real part of the world. love how his heracross is a symbol of both his past and his present- and also his deeper nature.

Warning: the following spoiler tabs contain major RP spoilers! (Read at your own risk.)

Name:
Charon (pronounced Haa-ron, like the ferryman of the underworld in Greek mythology)
Age: 22
Pronouns: He/him
Tribe: Fist Clan (former), Glacier (temporary), Ashen Tribe (current)
Class: Outcast
Occupation: Conqueror
Physical Appearance: Charon is a striking youth with white hair and pale-gray eyes. He wears a black cloak with white undergarments as though imitating royalty. He carries a xiphos, or short sword with an ornate handle resembling the head and neck of a Charizard. Charon’s sword is accompanied by a dyed leather scabbard that, when sheathed, makes it resemble a black Charizard breathing fire.
Personality: ???
Skills: Deception, Hand-to-hand Combat, Leadership, Persuasion, Sword Fighting, Trapping, etc.
Past:
Five months before Charon was born, the Grand Oracle of the Psychic Tribe met the king of the Fist Clan and foretold that a child with white hair would be born and would bring ruin to his tribe. On the anticipated day, two newborns fit the Oracle’s description. The first child, a girl, was born to a serf family and, following the king’s orders, was exposed to the winter cold and died. The second child, a boy, was kept secret and raised by his mother.
She dyed his hair with charcoal and taught him to isolate himself from his peers. As a result, her son, Charon, became illusive and distrustful of others. The charade worked until Charon turned twelve, when all Fist Clan boys were required to take extensive combat training.
Charon was now forced to keep up the act alone, reapplying his charcoal at night while everyone else was asleep. Despite this setback, he managed to form a friendship with a boy called Knox, and his wits and cunning earned the attention of a rival, the king’s nephew, Tobias.
Unfortunately, it was all too good to last.
When Charon was 17, he, Knox, and Tobias were sent on their first unaccompanied hunting trip. Upon reaching a valley at the base of the Glacier Mountains, the trio was ambushed by Toxicroaks. Charon and Knox fought back at once, but Tobias froze. Charon called Tobias’s name, but he merely stared back, stammered, then turned tail and ran. The Toxicroaks slashed Knox's arm and drenched Charon in sludge. Eventually, the two were able to escape by throwing Smoke Bombs.
Charon began cleansing himself in a nearby river when Knox convulsed and collapsed. The scratch he’d taken from the Toxicroak had been poisoned. Not even bothering to check if he had washed all the toxin off, Charon half-carried, half-dragged his friend back to camp.
A clan medic examined Charon for traces of the toxin while another tended to Knox’s wound. At this point, Tobias and his father entered the medics’ tent. Ashamed of his weakness, Tobias had concocted a lie to his father about Charon purposely leading them into the valley as a trap. Charon denied the story, but his protests were soon drowned by a cry of alarm from the medic. In wiping the last remaining drops of toxin from Charon’s hair, the medic had inadvertently revealed his secret.
Charon panicked and fled to his mother’s house. A short while later, the king ordered troops to surround Charon’s home. He slipped out the back, but his mother was captured and executed for treason. Charon fled from his pursuers into the mountains. He trudged through the snow for hours until he finally collapsed. His last impression before he passed out was of a looming figure resembling an angel of death or a girl in white.
When Charon woke, he was under a fur blanket inside a strange tent. He was informed by the healer that he was in Glacier Tribe territory and that he had been brought to her tent by a Froslass. This Froslass hadn’t left Charon’s side since she had placed him in her care.
Charon stayed with the healer for three weeks until he fully recovered. Afterward, he was invited to remain with the tribe if he proved useful. Charon did so for over a year, but his lingering resentment and feelings of betrayal kept him from bonding with the Glacier Tribe members. He made a secret vow that he nor anyone else would suffer the same pain and tragedy he experienced. One night, he and his Froslass descended from the mountain, never to be seen again.
Family/Relationships:
Mother (Deceased) - Charon’s soul source of kindness and comfort throughout most of his life, who inadvertently taught him to shut himself and his feelings away from others.
Knox (Childhood friend) - Presumably deceased from Toxicroak poisoning.
Khione (Partner Pokémon) - The Pokémon who spared Charon’s life and brought him to the Glacier Tribe. Legends say that Froslass feeds off the souls of its frozen victims, specifically those of men. So it surprised many Glacier Tribe citizens the day this Froslass carried a white-haired boy up their mountain and left him at their healer’s doorstep. From that day forward, she and Charon were inseparable.
The Ashen Tribe - A group of followers Charon acquired for "uniting" Arkhaios.
Pokémon:
Species: Froslass
Nickname: Khione
Gender: Female
Ability: Snow Cloak
Nature: Timid
Characteristic: Thoroughly Cunning
Identifying Marks: She has two scars across her forehead, presumably from a fight with a Sneasel.
Personality: Though fearful as a Snorunt, Khione became as callous and clever as her fellow Froslasses are known for upon her evolution. She is fiercely loyal to Charon, who she views as her master and her possession.
Past: ???
