• Welcome back to Pokécharms! We've recently launched a new site and upgraded forums, so there may be a few teething issues as everything settles in. Please see our Relaunch FAQs for more information.

Ask to Join Pokemon Prodigies; Uva Underdogs! (Discussion)

The Uva academy, one of the most prestigious academies on the planet (right next to Kyogre Lake of course ;)), even though you showed promise during your entrance exams, somehow you've ended up at the bottom of your grade. Instead of taking part in the treasure hunt, you're forced to take remedial classes. Of course, once your grades become up to par, then you may take part in the esteemed research project, however, if your grades do not see improvement in the duration of the school year, you will be expelled. Good luck students!

RULES:
See the regular pokecharms rules as well as the rules regarding paldean pokemon. The rp takes place way before the events of the game, so neither Miraidon, Koraidon, or any of the paradox pokemon found within the great crater will come into the rp UNLESS any rules are updated to allow the usage of said pokemon (obviously not koraidon or miraidon but specifically the paradox pokemon)

This will be an academy rp, but it will be extremely structured. There is obviously freedom, you can do what you want, but that will have in rp consequences. We will have to take place specifically in these 4 courses. History, Battle Studies, Home Ec, and Biology. Your rp character must be bad at at least ONE of these courses. If you do not have your character improve in the course(s) they struggle with, they will inevitably be expelled.

I am limiting everyone to one main character and 4 characters that are not directly tied to the plot, this can be parents, friends who are out on their treasure hunt, bullies, a partner, etc. The extra characters are specifically only for your character to interact with, in order to give your character backstory or a character arc. For the sake of the school. Or, if your character is a loner, maybe they wont have any of these extra characters, whatever you want to do.

Your character is Allowed 2 pokemon to begin with. A starter (Any first stage paldean pokemon) and a companion (A pokemon you could have grown up with, or caught within the school) All other potential pokemon will be caught by either ditching classes, or through the occasional trip the class may take (Historical expedition, Visit to a gym or maybe pokemon league, through sandwiches, or through a biological survey)

Completing classes will make you eligible to receive a Tera Orb, you do have to EARN it though.

Last but not least, have fun! This is my first RP in a really REAAAALLY long time, so I may be rusty or maybe I have forgotten something. Feel free to have input on the concept

It's chest had been broken, but due to Dom's crafting skills he was able to help rebuild the Gimmighoul a new chest, and the two became partners for life.

So how does the class system work? Depending on how often you attend to class, homework or projects?
It will be a mix of Attending classes and a project for the class you're struggling the most in. Each day we will have one room we go to (room E-4) where the teachers each come to us and give us a lesson. each class will have an event where we go somewhere to learn something which will be the big part of the classes but otherwise the system is pretty lenient from a rp standpoint

Gender/pronouns: She/her
Personality: Riri loves nature, dedicating her life to preserving it and taking care of it. She believes in natural cure than modern medicine, being in touch with her spirit and harmony. She loves to have fun, always looking to cheer up those around her and make people feel at peace with themselves. However, this means she will get distracted easily, focus on things not as important and refuse to believe technology is making the world better, despite having a Rotom Phone.
Backstory: Riri was born in Artazon Paldea, raised by both her parents. Her mother is an artist while his father helps with the Sunflora gym challenge. Because of this, Riri spend a lot of time helping keep the gardens clean, specially the flowers. She gained a bright and positive view of the world. This however is also her weakness, as she believes everyone has good inside them, which led to having four relationships that ended up with Riri having her heart broken. She still believes the world is a beautiful place and dedicates her live to proving it, which got in the way of her studies...

Name: Harlow Powell
Age: 18
Gender/pronouns: Female, she/her
Physical Description: Harlow is a 5'6'', slim, fit teenager. She has rather long, straight hair that ends slightly past her shoulders. Her hair is naturally black, but the ends of it are dyed a gradient of soft blues and vibrant purples. Her eyes are a dark green, and she usually wears a pair of dark aviator glasses (if not on her face, they're resting on her head). She seems to always be chewing some sort of bubblegum, absentmindedly blowing bubbles when she's not paying attention. Overtop her uniform she usually wears a light pink hoodie that appears to be based on deerling (think like those Pokémon Center hoodies, like Gengar or Zorua!) She also commonly wears ripped jeans (surely against the uniform policy) and visibly worn down pink sneakers. Due to her rowdy nature, she'll often have bandages come and go. They're most noticeable on her face, though her hands and legs usually get some too.
Personality: Most would probably consider Harlow a classic case of a rebellious teen. She winds up in fights a lot, both with Pokémon and without, and constantly gets herself in trouble with the Uva staff. She's often caught causing a ruckus in class or avoiding it all together. There's no doubt that there's a good, intelligent student somewhere in there though. How else would she have ever gotten in? Her potential shines through in her Pokémon battles, using both a strategy and finesse that otherwise isn't present. This potential is why Uva is lending her one last chance to get her act together or she's gone for good.
Backstory: Harlow practically lived with her grandmother growing up, her parents too busy with work to spend that much time with her. In her grandmother's prime, she went out to challenge Paldea's league during her own time at Uva and often recounted the tales to a younger Harlow. The teen used to be enamored by the idea of following in her grandmother's footsteps, but due to constant pressure by her parents to do better in her studies it seems she's lost interest in her pursuits. Now she brushes off classes whenever she can, constantly going out on her own adventures before being caught. While her parents' sternness has only gotten worse, her grandmother remains as a gentle support she desperately needs.

Character Sheet

Name: Andy Richter
Age (No Restriction): 15
Physical Description: Long Khaki pants that have quite a few pockets, with the leg sections going down to the sneakers, a light blue polo long sleeve shirt black sneakers with a Pikachu tail thunderbolt design. Andy also packed a pair of blue jeans, a thick sweater that's mainly gray with red sleeves and tan leather boots for Tundra-like areas. As long as the clothes are clean, Andy isn't one for fashion though he could resemble a walking kaleidoscope to some. Aside from that, he will always strive to look presentable.

Carries a smile of cautious optimism, keeping a close eye out for new friends or unexpected events or new areas. Andy walks with great posture giving off an air of confidence that most people will take notice of, it makes him quite easy to talk to without looking as if he's seeking attention. He is also a little bit on the thin side, and with black hair that is done in a buzz cut

Gender/pronouns: he/him/his

Personality:Andy is eager to observe the world around him and somewhat inquisitive. That inquisitiveness has made him very bright in terms of knowledge of nature but has also led to an unhealthy sense of danger because of it. Due to still being young, he is still a little naive, which results in him falling for pranks, such as April Fools pranks. However, when this does happen, he will see it as a learning experience and, in fact occasionally going along with it knowing full well that it’s a prank for the sake of humor. One example of this comes from Ratattas or other prankster pokémon hiding his items all over Mahogany Town, the pokémon themselves belonging to other trainers. The scavenger hunts don't bother him as he sees the pokémon as being playful or silly. Andy has high morals and won't allow anything to happen to his friends, going out of his way to try and settle disputes between other locals, even though it's clearly none of his business, telling the truth whenever he does something wrong, or just being around for people that have had bad days. This does lead to him getting into some sticky situations, however, such as people ignoring Andy during a dispute, at which point he will leave them alone.

Andy will start out shy to any person or pokèmon but will gradually warm up to them as time goes on and strive above most things to keep his friends happy, beware he will run away from anyone that lashes out at him. Thanks to his parents, and himself believing that pokemon are more friends and helpers rather than weapons, battling isn't his forte.

Backstory: History: Born into a quaint, moderately sized house in Mahogany Town Andy was an introvert at the start of his childhood, clinging mainly to his parents, Bob and Martha Richter for protection due to extreme shyness. This led to him being homeschooled and learning basic reading, writing, and math from them. The parents wanted him to make some friends with any other kids at their favorite spot, which also happens to be where the parents met, Corsola Cove, around Mt Mortar, dubbed that due to the abundance of Corsola present. However, if they tried to help him he would run away without saying a word with a very scared expression on his face, thus leading the local kids in Mahogany to label him an oddball.

This continued until age 6 during one routine day at Andy's now favorite area. He was busy making little designs in the sand, with his parents watching him while they were lounging around. That is until a Water Ball pokémon popped its head out of the water. The Azurill, as identified by Mr. and Mrs. Richter who still carried pokèdexes just in case, merrily bounced up to the trio with a squeak. This was Andy's first encounter with a pokémon so initially, he recoiled away from it. The Aqua Mouse Pokémon just waved its bouncy tail at him, smiled and squeaked once more which made Andy more cautious now more than afraid as he reached out to pet the Marill of which it took full comfort in. Bob and Martha saw this occur and became overjoyed that their bundle of nerves seemed to have taken a shine to a pokémon and potential new friend. After a whole day of play by Andy and his new found poké-friend, Azurill, the Richters got ready to return to Mahogany Town. Before they left, she squeaked again, waved using that tail of hers and walked back into the lake.

From then on, Andy slowly became more outgoing. By age 10 thanks to repeated visits to see Azurill, he was at least being more vocal with the Mahogany Town locals, unless it was the first time meeting a person, in that case, he would start out timid but warm up to him or her after a few minutes of conversation. Andy's homeschooling was going well too, he was learning Middle School levels of reading, writing, and math. Though he was homeschooling well, he wasn't as interested as much. His love of nature though never really diminished, still wanting to go to places along Johto such as Corsola Cove, Ecruteak City, and Olivine City, as well as keeping an eye on his neighbor's potted plants.

During the year before his 15th birthday, Andy’s adventurous side started showing up. He would sneak out during the night to explore the areas around Mahogany; not going too much farther than that because he didn't want to worry his mom and dad, he was very respectful of them after all. He yearned to head tonot just the rest of the Johto region, but any other regions out there learning about the many cultures and pokémon present throughout with his own pokémon, little did he know they both were planning quite a surprise for him.

On his 15th birthday, the parents let him have a chance at his own adventure, before all that though, was the usual happy birthday Andy followed by the birthday cake and presents which included a backpack, a flashlight as well as a very special, secret surprise that Andy's parents decided to keep secret from him, a certain blue mouse. The soon-to-be nurse was very excited about all the goodies until he remembered he still needed a pokémon. Suddenly, he heard a familiar sounding squeak. He lit up like a Blitzle charging up a Thunder attack. He picked up the Aqua Mouse and paraded around the house and hugged it followed by the parents for getting his first real friend. Andy became ecstatic, he now had everything he needed to start his adventure, it would then be off to the Uva Academy in Paladea.

Here things take a downturn, while he is great to fair in most things, battling just didn't click with him. Would all this time and preparation be for naught?

Hmmmmmmmm, do I dare think up and write a character for this? See if I can get myself back in to Charms RP despite how busy I get, idk.

If I do, what are the chances he can have a different (starter?) Pokemon thanks to having been gifted one from a relative in another region? If not, that's fine.

Your companion can be gifted but you starter must be a first stage paldean Pokémon, also I’m working part time and going to college, this rp will be taken very slow and we won’t be rushing that many plot points until we all can get caught up

In actuality, she's just introverted and doesn't do well in crowds, finding them mentally exhausting to be around. She prefers the company of Pokemon to people but cherishes the few people she lets in and identifies as friends. She's not a big fan of Pokemon battles in spite of what her appearance would suggest.

Name: Logan Richardson
Age: 17
Physical Description: Standing at 5'4" with fair skin, short and smooth caramel Brown hair, royal Purple eyes and a slim body figure. His facial expression mainly gives off a sense of indifference from him. His casual attire consists of a Black hoodie with dark Blue jeans and Black sneakers, often wearing a knee long Grey jacket over it.

1671558695376.png

Made with Picrew

When at school, he wears the Winter style uniform albeit different; his black jacket is open and he doesn't have the white vest underneath.
Gender/pronouns: He/him
Personality: Logan feels somewhat distant from the people around him. Thanks to his father who ran a successful company and extremely strict parenting to make him his successor, Logan feels pressured with nearly everything he does, doing his best to live up to his father's expectations (less to do with loving his father, but more about getting him off his back). Logan cannot stand any kind of failure, whether it was a simple accident, a minor spelling mistake in an English test, or losing in Pokemon battles. Speaking of Pokemon battles, Logan feels somewhat more at ease when it comes to subjects about them or going about doing one (and especially winning) as he knows that it's something he likes to do.
Backstory: Born into the wealthy Richardson family, Logan's childhood was immediately bombarded with responsibilities by his father who forced him to study for the future he chose for him; take over as the family company's successor. Logan rarely got to experience how people would normally enjoy their childhood, whenever he did, his father would angrily tell him to focus on studying. Eventually, his father made Logan enroll at Uva Academy and demanded he pass with flying colors, Logan on the other hand wanted to have a chance to live his life how he wanted, while he was happy to study, it was to be towards his own goals.

Personality: Like many other Greavards, he is extremely loyal towards Logan, so loyal that he isn't afraid to go against anyone what would harm him, even if they were Logan's friends. Logan had Greavard since he was just an egg, chosen by his father since its evolution line were said to be extremely loyal to their trainers.

Pokemon: Mankey
Ability: Anger Point
Personality: While calm at times, he is quick to anger like other Mankeys. Although he is loyal enough to never direct his anger towards Logan who saved his life after nearly being carried away by a raging river.

Emergency Contacts (extra characters) (1-4): Gordon Richardson
Personality: A proud man who only wants his family to live up to his expectations no matter how high they are, especially his son, Logan, who he tries to groom into his company's successor... by any means necessary.
Relation to Character: Father

Name: Logan Richardson
Age: 17
Physical Description: Standing at 5'4" with fair skin, short and smooth caramel Brown hair, royal Purple eyes and a slim body figure. His facial expression mainly gives off a sense of indifference from him. His casual attire consists of a Black hoodie with dark Blue jeans and Black sneakers, often wearing a knee long Grey jacket over it.

This is just her usual outfit, she'll only wear the uniform at school.
Gender/pronouns: Female, she/her
Personality: Leona is a quiet individual that often comes off as stoic and unapproachable to the outside observer.

For his casual clothing, he wears a red plaid jacket, with a blue undershirt with a Quaxly design in the middle of it. He wears blue pants while his shoes are white. He usually wears the usual school uniform during school hours though.

Gender/pronouns: He/Him

He usually is picked on by his oldest brother, though he usually ignores it and gets on with his day. He didn't get along much with his siblings, which is why he stays alone, and much appreciates quiet places than loud. His father gave Carl a Blipbug as a gift to celebrate him going to Uva Academy, although it didn't go well for Carl in his first few weeks, as he almost flunked out of Battle Studies as he wasn't much of a fighting type.

Looks interesting, here is my submission!

Name: Lucie Auclair

Age (No Restriction): 16

Physical Description: Lucie naturally stands at 5'4", though tends to increase her height with heeled shoes. Her strawberry blonde hair falls neatly to her upper back, styled with loose bangs, longer at the sides. She possesses pale blue eyes which can glimmer with curiosity or excitement, but likewise show her lack of enthusiasm towards areas that don't interest her. She wears a light amount of makeup, going for a soft, dewey effect. Lucie can normally be seen wearing any combination of stylish skirts, blouses, coats, and dresses straight off the runways of her original home, Lumiose city. Complete with an assortment of heeled shoes, bags, and accessories to complement her looks. Lucie has a very slight figure, though with some development due to her practice in dancing from a young age.

Gender/pronouns: She/her/hers

Personality: Lucie is a kind girl, though easily excited by things related to fashion and beauty. She can apply herself well academically, though tends to be a bit ditzy and forgetful, especially in a pinch. Lucie can also get quite frustrated when things don't go her way, though calms down quickly enough. Lucie dreams of being a performer and idol, making a name for herself and her Pokemon. However, since these are not strong focuses in the Paldea region, she has found herself feeling quite glum, uncertain of how she can achieve her dreams since moving to the Paldea region. As a result, Lucie tends not to take her Battle Studies classes at Uva Academy seriously, considering them an unnecessary way to bide her time before she can return back to Kalos and achieve her dreams.

Backstory: Lucie grew up in a wealthy family from Lumiose city. Her father being a professional chef in one of it's top restaurants, while her mother ran the restaurant and took care of franchising. From a young age, Lucie watched the performers of Kalos take the stage with their Pokemon, being mesmerised by their beauty and poise. Due to this, Lucie set her sights on becoming a performer, devoting her time to fashion, and creating appeal-enhancing treats (Pokepuffs, Pokeblock, and Poffins) so her and her Pokemon could shine on stage as idols.

At the age of 10, Lucie was gifted an egg by her parents, which hatched into an Eevee, the offspring of her mother's Glaceon, and father's Leafeon. Lucie and her Eevee invested their time into learning how to perform, making sure they looked good, but not that their moves had a strong battling effect.

When Lucie was 15, her parents decided to move to Levincia city in Paldea for a few years, intending to expand their restaurant franchise. This crushed Lucie, as Paldea was not known for its performers, and she was made to enrol in Uva Academy, where she was expected to focus much more on Pokemon battling, as opposed to Pokemon Performance. Lucie was given a Quaxly, with the hopes that it could become a strong battling starter for her. However, due to Quaxly's predisposition towards looking good and being cleanly, mixed with Lucie's focus on appearances, this did not eventuate, leading to Lucie, alongside her Eevee and her Quaxly, failing their Battle Studies class.

Pokemon: Eevee
Nickname: Sophie
Personality: Ditzy, like her trainer. Tends to focus more on looking good, as opposed to battling well.

Pokemon: Quaxly
Nickname: Blanche
Personality: Proud and clean. Not a bad battler, but won't apply itself when it's trainer doesn't seem to care about strength in battles.

Emergency Contacts (extra characters) (1-4): Josette Auclair
Personality: Strict and disciplined. Josette is a savvy business woman, with her acumen having developed her and her husband's franchise significantly. She expects the best from her daughter, and does not approve of her becoming a performer. As a result, she is pleased she is enrolled in Uva Academy.
Relation to Character: Mother

Emergency Contacts (extra characters) (1-4): Theo Auclair
Personality: More relaxed than his wife, though still expecting the best from his daughter. A talented chef who passed on some skills to his daughter to help her learn to make performance treats.
Relation to Character: Father

Emergency Contacts (extra characters) (1-4): Lionel Perez
Personality: Patient and confident. A close friend of Lucie's she met during their time at Uva. He is helping her with her battling, hoping she will improve, though she has improved slightly, the fact that she doesn't fully try to apply herself despite months of his training with her can be disheartening.
Relation to Character: Close friend

Since I’m super behind, I just removed my character from the scenario. If anyone wants to interact with him feel free (I finally am not too busy to remember to post) but also if you guys would rather wrap up and skip to the first class, that’s alright as well!
