Pokemon Ranger regions: Part of the Pokemon series canon?

I've been wondering how people view the Ranger regions in relation to the other existing regions seen in the RPGs. Do you consider Fiore and Almia as part of the Pokemon world canon, particularly that of Kanto, Johto, Hoenn, Sinnoh, and Orre (if you'd even include Orre)? The Pokemon Anime introduced the Orange Islands as well, and it seems most people include those when talking of the world, too.

I haven't seen the dubbed Ranger episodes - either of them - so I'm not sure how it handled the status of the regions. Does it mention the Fiore/Almia as being actual places, or simply gloss over their existence?

If people do indeed consider Fiore and Almia as real locations in the Pokemon World, whereabouts would you place them compared to the main four regions (+ Orre)?

I guess it all depends how you view the Pokemon world in general and which sources you view as the most valid. The Pokemon games and the Anime differ greatly when it comes to places (towns and cities for the most part) in each region, and I know not everyone takes these into account when RPing/writing fanfics and the like. I don't personally, but that's mainly because it'd be insane to include ALL of those places in RP or a fanfic. As for Fiore and Almia, I guess they should be counted since D/P do link up to 'em, I'm just not sure where you'd place them on the overall map.

Thoughts?

I think this in part relates to my search for the actual world map when it came to the anime. (related topic) My line of thought is that if it appears anywhere in either an official Pokemon game or anime, then it is located somewhere in the Pokemon world. Considering how big the planet is, there is quite a large possibility that we have only seen a small portion of the Pokemon world, something like only maybe the equivalent of land masses the size of the UK, Japan, and Indonesia or Malaysia perhaps.

In regards to how the anime differs from the games in terms of towns and cities placement, the anime at least makes it much more believable distance-wise between them. On the overall map however, it is still a mystery on actual locations of each continent in relation to each other (besides Johto/Kanto). Even the anime map that is included in that thread doesn't show actual placement on a globe, it cuts off the edges and makes it guesswork to have any actual factual representation of the landmasses in relation to each other.

If you look carefully at the section of land off the east coast of Almia, it looks a lot like the westernmost side of Orre. Since Orre itself is shown to lead into a very grassy area at that point also, it seems very likely that Almia is just west of Orre, and that the two regions are in fact connected to each other.

Here's a picture of Almia:

This one is Orre. The position of the volcano on both images is a key factor:

Also, I think Almia might be connected to Sinnoh... by land (akin to Johto/Kanto). Look at real life Hokkaido, then Sinnoh. See on the western side, it cuts off. In reality, there's an Almia-shaped (turn Almia for it to fit, though) bit of land coming from there.

I suppose it may come off of the cut off section of the bottom of Sinnoh, too... We may never know. XD

I think Sinnoh's meant to be a landform all of it's own as opposed to being connected to anything.

As for being part of canon - as I recall, Sinnoh is mentioned in Ranger 1, and it's implied between both Ranger and D/P that Manaphy can only be hatched in places like Fiore with warm waters.

I'd say it's rather unquestionable that they're part of the canon - but unlikely they'll ever be featured in a main game. Just the same as Orre.

That map of Almia is pretty cool - and it does seem like that's meant to be Orre to the right. Probably just as an 'easter egg' sort of bonus for fans - but it's nice to see.

As for the anime - Fiore and Almia have never been mentioned. Rangers just simply exist, and do so all over the Pokemon world.

So, basically; Fiore, Almia and Orre are most definitely canon. Afterall, all 3 are capable of 'travel' between themselves and Kanto, Hoenn and Sinnoh in various forms (Johto not included for the obvious lack of Johto post Gen III) for Pokemon and trainers from either games to connect.

This is different to, say, the Mystery Dungeon worlds or the Pikachu game worlds which are obviously closed within their own canon and have no place with any of the rest of the games at all.
