Some of you may remember the marvellous Pokkén Tournament, released in 2015 in arcades and later for the Wii U. Pokkén was a unique fighting game featuring a wide variety of Pokémon, drawing inspiration from Tekken and the Naruto Ultimate Ninja Storm series to make an exciting fighting game that was accessible to newbies, but with a lot of scope for high-level competitive play.
You may also remember how the game was completely abandoned by Nintendo soon after release – while the arcade version got new Pokémon in the form of Croagunk, Empoleon, Darkrai, and Scizor, those characters never came to the Wii U version, despite dataminers finding assets for them in update code.
Today, we've got a fix for that – Pokkén Tournament DX has been announced for the Nintendo Switch, and will release worldwide on 22nd September 2017. This version of the game serves as a complete and expanded version of the Wii U and arcade versions – as well as including all content from the Wii U version, Croagunk, Empoleon, Darkrai, and Scizor have been added from the arcade version, and Decidueye joins as a brand new character exclusive to the Switch version. Two new Support Pokémon, Litten and Popplio, also make their debut.
New modes have also been added to the game:
Lastly, battle replays have been added, so you can watch other players' replays and share your best matches online for other Pokkén players to view.
