Marcus had lead Isaac past Jubilife and onto Route 203. They were approaching the base of Mt. Coronet. On the other side was Oreburgh City. Marcus had kept an eye out for Trainers for Isaac and Piplup to battle but the only one they had found had been a Trainer with a Staravia at the end of Route 202. Apart from that the Route was seemingly empty. Marcus turned to his cousin. "Do you feel like you want to train against any wild Pokemon?" "I'd like to watch your Gym battle first. Then I'll decide." The pair climbed a set of stairs in sight of an ominous cave. It was a short cave but dark and gloomy nonetheless. Zubat could be heard shrieking inside. "Go, Luxray," Luxray sprung from its ball and prowled into the cave. The cousins watched as the cave lit up with electricity along with Luxray's mighty roar. The Pokemon then turned to them and beckoned for them to enter. They did and walked through the cave with minimal effort, Zubat lay around hissing them with smoke rising from their bodies. They exited the cave and gazed down at Oreburgh City. It was a typical mining town with houses for the workers and an excavation site. Smoke was rising from the chimneys and Starly were circling it causing the smoke to take on different shapes. They walked down the hill and arrived at the Gym. "Ready?" Marcus asked. "Of course! Lets do this!" Isaac replied. They walked in.
--
The room was dark when they entered. They looked around, the room lead upwards, like a cliff. Fitting for a rock type gym. They ascended the stairs to the first level and the lights flashed on. "Greetings Challengers, welcome to the Oreburgh City Gym!" The man greeting them had dark red hair and wore workers attire and a miners helmet. His glasses glinted as he raised his head. "I am Roark, the Gym leader." Isaac greeted him, "Hi Roark, my name is Isaac and this is my cousin Marcus." Marcus raised his head to acknowledge his name. "Ah, a past challenger. To what do I owe this pleasure?" Marcus walked up to Roark and handed him a letter. Roark read over the letter before turning back to face Marcus. "Very well I accept your proposal. Which of you will battle first?" Isaac pointed to his cousin "I've never battled properly before so Marcus offered to show me how its done." "Come this way," Roark said as he gestured for them to follow him. At the top of the set of stairs was a large battlefield Roark walked across and a man appeared from a door, standing at a podium near on the edge of the field. Isaac watched him as he took a seat in the stands, the man spread his hands as if to make an important announcement. "The Oreburgh City Gym Battle between the Leader Roark and the Challenger Marcus is about to begin. Each side may use three Pokemon and the battle is over when all of either sides Pokemon are defeated. Let the battle begin!" Roark lifted a Pokeball in his hand and threw it into the air, "Go, Tyranitar!" The Pokeball burst open and Tyranitar crashed to the ground, shrieking out and whipping up a Sand Storm in the arena. Marcus tossed his own Pokeball out, "Torterra, I choose you!" Torterra landed in front of Marcus and roared at the Tyranitar. "You may have the first move," Roark told Marcus. "Torterra use Seed Bomb!" Marcus commanded. Torterra launched a series of explosives at Tyranitar, causing it to drop to one knee. "Tyranitar use Fire Fang!" Tyranitar glanced up at Torterra, a ferocious glint in its eye and reared back, engulfing its mouth in flames before biting Torterra's shell. It lifted it up and shook it before sending it flying back towards Marcus. Torterra was injured yet it stood up shaking, giving Tyranitar a determined look. "Use Earthquake!" Torterra glowed yellow and leant back before slamming down on the ground sending tremors throughout the arena. They struck Tyranitar and this time, when it fell, it did not rise again. "Tyranitar is unable to battle, the winner is Torterra." As Roark recalled his Pokemon, Marcus congratulated his Pokemon over its victory. Isaac watched with wonder, so this is what battling is really like, he thought to himself. Roark called out his second Pokemon, "Golem, I choose you!" Golem grunted and stared at its opponent. "Torterra, use Seed Bomb!" Torterra once again launched green spheres into the air. "Dodge and use Stone Edge!" Golem rolled effortlessly to the side before punching the ground, sending shards of stone up at Torterra, they struck in and launched it into the air before crashing down in a cloud of dust. "Torterra is unable to battle, the winner is Golem." Marcus recalled Torterra, you tried your hardest, he whispered to it. "Drapion, I choose you!" Drapion scuttled from its Pokeball onto the arena, it bared its fangs at Golem and made its body bigger to intimidate it. "Drapion use Iron Tail!" Drapion flicked its tail and coated it in a silver substance before swinging it at Golem, it struck its side and send it flying into the wall of the arena. Golem rolled back in front of Roark and faced off against Drapion, "Use Stone Edge!" Golem sent pillars of stone erupting from beneath Drapion. It lowered its head before roaring upwards and glaring back down at Golem. "Finish it with Brick Break!" Drapion snapped its pincers and they began to glow. It ran at Golem and brought its arms down on Golems back. A crack sounded throughout the arena and as the dust settled, Golem was down and out. "Golem is unable to battle, the winner is Drapion." Roark smiled as he sent out his last Pokemon. "Your battle ends here, go Rampardos!" Rampardos emerged from its ball, snorting and shuddering. It began pawing the ground in anticipation. "Drapion use Cross Poison!" Marcus commanded, "Rampardos counter with Zen Headbutt!" The Pokemon clashed center stage, despite Zen Headbutt having no effect on Drapion, its stopped its Cross Poison right in its tracks. "Now use Earthquake!" Rampardos slammed its head into the ground, sending out a shockwave that tore across Drapion. It shook and collapsed in a heap on the ground. "Drapion is unable to battle, the winner is Rampardos." Rampardos snorted and glared at Marcus. Isaac watched with eagerness, who would his cousin choose last and would he be able to win? "Come on out, Electivire!" The Pokeball burst open and Electivire appeared, crouched on the floor. Electricity began to surge from its body as it rose up and roared. Its eyes blazed with anger and it turned to Marcus, tense with rage. "Electivire please, beat me up later. Just focus on taking out Rampardos." Marcus pleaded with his Pokemon. Electivire glanced over its shoulder at Rampardos, which was sneering at it. Electivire snorted back and rubbed its hands together, walking back onto the arena to face Rampardos. "Electivire, use Ice Punch!" Electivire leapt onto the side of the stands and then jumped at Rampardos, its fist blazing with fire. It unleashed a series of punches before leaping back to a safe distance. Fire wasn't very effective against a rock type like Rampardos, but when it stood up again its face displayed one emotion, pure rage. "Rampardos use Avalanche!" Rampardos roared and an avalanche cascaded from the ceiling above Electivire. It brushed it off and jumped towards its foe. "Use Ice Punch Electivire!" Marcus commanded, but once again his Pokemon refused to obey, slamming its Thunder Punch into Rampardos's head. It then turned one fist to Ice and the other remained Electric and pummeled Rampardos until it couldn't bear the pain any more. It then raised Rampardos above its head and charged up a Thunderbolt. It arched back, its body screaming with voltage and zapped Rampardos, causing it to cry out in pain. It then dropped to the floor and Electivire sneered over it. "Rampardos is unable to battle, the winner is Electivire and the victor of the match is Marcus." Marcus called back his Pokemon the second the referee had finished his sentence. Isaac's thoughts were running wild, what had happened with Electivire, was Rampardos OK, was any of that legal? One thought remained prominent, if every battle was like the one he had just witnessed, this journey would be the greatest adventure of his life. Marcus approached Roark and he handed him something. Then Marcus and Roark signalled to Isaac, his battle was about to begin...
