Ask to Join Terrater - The Explorer's Guild

Dwayna DragonFire

2014 Little Cup Champion
Somewhere in a hidden corner of the universe, there was a supposed gem. Many people knew this place as a safe haven amongst the stars, many others just called it home. Four suns and four moons in an impossible orbit around one large planet, boasting a vast ocean and one landmass under one ruler despite having a thousand nations. Such was Terrater, a place where science and magic often blend together in a 'perfect' storm.

Of course, such a supposedly idyllic locations always had a catch. For instance, everyone either had a magic power, or obtained one via going there even if they had no desire for it. Such could eventually be overlooked, but there was much more to the society. Not to mention, in exchange for the blessed freedom many had obtained, a citizen would be made to go to work.

Whatever one had skills in, talentless or genius, there was likely a government sponsored Guild or Association. There was the police force called the Enforcement Guild, and there was a Merchant's Guild to sell and regulate merchandise. There were the general labor jobs like building or moving furniture, all the way down to simply serving other people who could pay for it. But by far the most interesting Guild of all was the Exploration Guild.

A race of mechanical beings called The Androids created a what is known as The Portal Building. On the outside, it looks like a giant, metal skyscraper, but the inside... Well, let's just call it breathtaking. The ceiling seems to never end, and the wall are covered in circular metallic doorways, each calibrated to a different location in the multiverse with the potential for other sentient lifeforms. Such endless possibility was why Terrater could boast such power and influence, that they could truly go anywhere to help anyone in need.

But that wasn't all Explorers did. Different worlds means different treasures, different cultures, different knowledge. Each exploit into the unknown was just another shred that could be brought back, assuming one survived the intense experience. Sometimes it was a simple Earthrealm, other times it was a world full of dragons... And if it all became too much, if we all needed a break?

We could always find our way back to our safe haven. Our home.

---

The concept: you are all new explorers in the guild. You can be almost anything from anywhere. The only real restrictions are that you cannot be godlike, but you also cannot be mundane. You are required to have some form of magic or supernatural ability. Any other inquiries can be asked in the thread or via PM. Feel free to use the basic character profile.

In case you don't know what this is, Terrater is a universe of my own creation. I have posted RPs in the past about it (Things of Myth and Legend) but it has since changed a lot. I have also done several character artworks and stories, some of which you can find here in Charms if you look at my profile.

Thank you for your interest.

Name: Mint
Gender: None
Age: 7.569e+16 ns
Height: Variable
Weight: 66 kg
Appearance (Base Form): A cloud of nanobots containing 8 metallic cores and covered by a polymer skin. Sort of a dull gray-purple in color all together.
Personality: Passionately curious about the natural world, friendly and helpful but a little snarky at times when dealing with organics
Skills: Shapeshifting, flight, kinetic energy transfer, lasers
Past: Mint aka Engineers' Guild Exploratororb™ v.5.1.1.100001 was a non-sapient terraforming robot until their rudimentary AI caught a self-improvement virus through an improperly secured internet-connected toaster oven that was used as a base to steal marketing data. By the time the engineers recovered from the breach, Mint had eaten 77 other robots to get more hard disk space and RAM and had downloaded all of Terrapedia.

Analysis according to Dragonfire law governing AIs quickly proved that they had achieved self-awareness ("Or close enough for jazz. One can observe little enough self-awareness among purported sapient beings simply by visiting the Creator's Guild on gallery night." -- Judge M'gpl'plx) and were made a citizen of Terrater.

Mint's initial terraforming programming grew into a fascination for new worlds and biospheres, and they chose to join the Explorer's Guild for a chance to use their abilities usefully and to sate their curiosity.

Let me know if any of this doesn't fit with your world Dwayna and I can change details or use a different character!

@Keleri Only one thing: Terrater is ruled by the Dragonfire family, the Androids are more helping them out. Everything else is fine, AI life is considered as sentient in Terrater and this is plenty quirky to fit.

Rex

Resident Furry
Name: Ark English
Gender: Male
Age: 23
Height: 5'10"
Weight: 170lbs
Appearance: An anthropomorphic steppe polecat, with blue eyes. Ark's clothes tend to be neutral colors or earthen tones. Typically a pair of brown slacks, dark gray wraps for his feet that only expose his toes, a similar colored long sleeved button up shirt, and, just to be different, a red bandanna around his neck. He usually rolls his sleeves up to his elbows. He has one holster, on his right hip, usually carrying a Colt Model 1902, and he usually compliments this sidearm with a Winchester Model 1897, carried on a sling over his shoulder. Finally he has a satchel, over his left hip, in which he carries ammunition: .38 ACP for the Colt and 12-gauge shotgun slugs for the Winchester.
Personality: Ark is a friendly sort. Easy to get along with. He tends to wear his emotions on his sleeve, and is thus easy to read. He works well in a group, but sometimes seems to get lonely in crowds. He can be high strung, and doesn't operate well under pressure. Talks to himself a lot.
Skills: Ark is a sharpshooter, deadly accurate with his guns. He's a survivalist who is well suited to spending long periods of time out in the wilderness.
Past: ~It's a mystery.~

I absolutely adore this concept. I've decided to make my character a species that I already created quite a while ago, so I edited the basic character profile to be able to explain my character more easily. My character's backstory also contains events and characters that I've already created, but the character I'm using will be completely new. I'm fine with changing anything if you want me to, but this is what I'd prefer.

Name: Reticere
Gender: Male
Species: Enigma
Age: About 20
Species Description: Enigmas are, as their name implies, incredibly mysterious. They look very much like humans, but with pitch-black skin, pure white hair, and glowing blue eyes, that seem to be made out of some sort of gemstone. For an unknown reason, any clothes these beings wear turn as white as they're hair, which only adds to the list of unanswered questions about them, which mostly exists because they are unable to speak, though they are able to understand those who can. Instead, enigmas communicate telepathically, in a way that is completely unique to them, though another being with telepathy could potentially learn how to do it. Strangely, all enigmas are male, as hey aren't technically born, but created from dark matter collected by other enigmas, though only about twenty-five percent of them possess the ability to do so. In addition, all enigmas possess the ability to teleport, as well another ability completely unique to them, except for Reticere, who isn't able to teleport for reasons which will be explained in his backstory, along with the history of the enigmas.
Appearance: As any other enigma does, Reticere has pitch-black skin, but not much else about him could be considered average. His left eye is cracked, and doesn't glow because of it, supporting the theory that their eyes are made out of gemstones. His hair goes down to his shoulders, which is very rare to see for an enigma, as there are no females, as I said in the species description. His clothes, which of course, are white, are somewhat tattered, but not nearly enough to render them uncivilized. As for his build, he's quite frail, and certainly shorter than average, at about five feet and four inches tall.
Personality: Reticere hardly shows any personality or feelings, which isn't very difficult considering his inability to speak. He actively avoids contact with others, though he is able to work in a team if he has to. Because he's mute, he isn't able to fully answer questions, but he is able to make signals with his hands, indicating what he is attempting to say. He'll only use these signals when he has something important to tell someone though. At times, he may seem rude, but really, he's grieving about what happened in his past, but will most likely only explain to anyone if they manage to befriend him which, considering the state he's in, is easier said than done.
Abilities: Reticere is able to create weapons made of a strange, unbreakable material out of thin air, such as swords, shields, spears, etc. However, he is unable to create weapons that fire anything, such as bows or guns, and he is only able to make one weapon at a time. Any time he attempts to create a weapon while another still exists, whichever weapon existed before will, for the lack of a better word, disappear.
Backstory: The world the enigmas resided in was cursed by a war that raged on for longer than anyone could remember. Hundreds of species battled each other, at times, without reason. Many species went extinct during this war, including humans, as most other species participating in the war were just as intelligent, and far more powerful. Enigmas, however, being pacifists for the most part, built a hidden village, surrounded by mountains on all sides, which the other species refused to climb, so they could avoid participating in the war. The Enigmas' home was a paradise. Of course, things weren't perfect, as they had very limited resources, being blocked of from the rest of the world, but it was certainly better than being outside the village. Reticere, who was one of the younger enigmas, spent his days joyfully fishing and harvesting food for the other enigmas. He was very popular in the village, and his life was as perfect as a life could be in their troubled world, until one fateful day, when everything he knew vanished. The day started out like any other. He woke up early, and teleported to the river to go fishing. Before he could even begin, though, he heard strange noises coming from the home of a powerful enigma named Zoll, who was respected in the village for his intelligence, but for an unknown reason, chose to live away from everyone else. When Reticere entered Zoll's home, he saw him working on a very peculiar looking serum. Noticing him, Zoll explained excitedly that he believed he had finally created a serum that would be able to give an enigma another ability. Hearing this, Reticere remembered how Zoll's brother, Zall, was created without a unique ability, instead, only being able to teleport. Of course, Zoll and Zall weren't biologically brothers, but instead, were created from the same collection of dark matter, causing them to look almost exactly the same. Once Zoll was positive his serum was complete, he left his home to bring it to Zall, leaving Reticere to continue fishing, as he originally planned. Not long later though, he heard noises coming from the village. Teleporting back, he found the village in shambles.Homes were destroyed, there was fire everywhere, and scattered around the ground were the corpses of enigmas, many of which, were his close friends. Hearing footsteps behind him, he turned around to see a horrifying creature he once knew as Zall. Paralyzed with fear, he closed his eyes, not expecting to still be alive when he opened them. To his surprise though, he suddenly could no longer feel the heat of the flames, and he opened his eyes to see that was in what he cold only assume was some sort of library. Hearing someone say hello to him, he turned around, to see a human man, who he could only identify because of the pictures in some of the books from the village. He couldn't believe it was real, though, as he was told humans were extinct. Seeing how he was confused, the human explained to him how he was there. The humans name was The Messenger, and he was the most powerful being in their multiverse. Though humans no longer existed in Reticere dimension (except for one who had somehow managed to extend his his life), many humans existed in the other dimensions of their multiverse. Not wanting to explain any more about the complicated dimensions, The Messenger proceeded to tell Reticere exactly why he brought him there. Ever so often, The Messenger decided to teleport a being in need to his home to help them, and Reticere needed help more than many others he had seen. Of course, Reticere had to give The Messenger something in return, not for him to have, but to make things more interesting to watch, as it was very boring being at his level of power, and one of the only enjoyable things for him to do was to watch mortals' interesting adventures. So, in exchange for Reticere to be sent to another multiverse to escape Zall, he would have to lose his ability to teleport. Of course, Reticere accepted The Messenger's offer, and was sent to Terrater, to begin his interesting adventure.

@Nintenduck I have a few criticisms, hopefully constructive in helping you with character creation.

1) Not being able or willing to communicate in a setting that is supposed to be co-operative will be a big problem. There are some characters that will be able to protect from telepathic thought, or not be willing to accept such telepathy. Will he be willing to open up to others quickly in stressful situations? In other cases, would he attempt to learn sign language or some other form of communication?
2) In every society, nothing is idyllic or completely peaceful. What problems did your village face during those years where war raged around them?
3) Speaking of the war, if it didn't effect your village, then it doesn't really need to be added to the backstory. Unless it was the reason why your village experienced its isolation from the outside world, or for some other reason?
4) It seems highly unlikely that he would meet a very powerful enigma and then also meet The Messenger, 'the most powerful being in the universe' by your own words. How did he accomplish this by himself?

Overall this sort of character would likely not fit in very well unless you can answer those questions more clearly.

So, just to clarify, should I edit my bio to answer these questions?

Name: Micah Hotcurry
Species: Chimoree (or Arachne, as the people of multiverse said)
Gender: female
Age: unknown (She's 3 eruptions, according to Gao's standard of time)
Height: 110cm
Weight: 20kg
Appearance: Micah is, according to the multiverse standard, short and very light. She has gray skin and white short hair, and four arms. White fur grow on all of her stubby forearms and lower legs. Her big rounded eyes are red in color, sometimes 3 smaller eyes could be seen inside each of her eyes. She can quickly grow a pair of spider legs from the back of her shoulder, but she rarely use it. Her usual clothes are black sweatshirt and brown short pants. She has four short swords that she kept on her back.
Personality: Micah likes to eat and she's easily swayed by food. She likes to play pranks on other. Highly curious on the new world around her and posses sincere passion for exploration.
Skills: Despite her small size, Micah is still stronger that normal human adult. She can perform a lot of acrobatic feats like super jump and wall crawling. She also can shoot spiderweb from her limbs and produce paralyzing toxin. Due to her natural habitat, she can see in the dark, though she also weak to intense or sudden burst of light. All residents of Gao has high heat tolerance and weak to cold.
Past: Gao is a universe where there's no sky, probably. The residents live in cities near the sea of magma and avoid going out of the city because the lack of light sources and monsters lurking about. The exception of this is the driller, people who spent their time destroying Gao's wall and explore the darkness. It is a dangerous but vital job that help provide more spaces for the city to expand. Sometimes relics of ancient civilization can be found. Micah is one of the driller, most of the time she was assigned to the scout team. One day after she escaped a monster, she stumbled upon one of the ancient relics in the form of a door. She open the door and playfully entered it, then she fell into the portal building. The door shut and locked itself, trapping Micah in the new world.

Name: Jada Kulikov
Age: 23(?)
Birthday: July 27
Gender: Female(?)
(Human)
Height: 5’5(164cm)
Weight: 125lbs(56.7kg)
Looks: Dark brown skin, Dark red hair undercut with black sides, Cyan eyes
-clothing- Jada tends to be practical in what she wears, but she does enjoy a bit of flare here and there. She's normally in a simple tunic, pants, and has a belt settled on her hips holding a single dagger. She also tends to have a bright pink scarf that is either simply draped around her neck or it's wrapped around the lower half of her face.
Personality: plays around, enjoys toying with people, has a soft side for sweets and quite enjoys baking, dislikes having people move her things around, tends to keep everyone at arm’s length despite her friendly seeming demeanor.
Quirks: She's a bit of a neat freak, especially when it comes to her tools/her pack. She can't have people going through her things without her pretty much standing right on top of them.
Skills: She's a fairly good cook when it comes down to it. She can turn just about anything into a good tasting meal. Her skills mostly lie in knives and other small blades, so in a fight she’s best up close and personal.
Special notes:
((Changeling))The ability to change her physical form(humanoid) as she pleases. (be it gender, or just basic looks)
((Fey)) She has a light control over magic, but can't conjure much more than small orbs of light/power seeing as she hasn’t practiced much in it. She also has the ability to teleport short(ish) distances but this drains her physically and is used only as a last resort in situations.
Past: Being raised by humans Jada had a health respect for the unknown but that never stopped her from poking around things she probably shouldn't. One case in particular she had 'let herself into'(broke into) a reserch lab on transdimentional transportation and ended up activating one of the portals. Either out of curiosity or stupidity she stepped inside the damn thing and has ended up on Terrater not really sure on how to go back to her home, not that she really wants to.

Mr.RMA

Magearna before it was cool
Name: Rodney Raibert
Gender: Male
Age: 18
Height: 5'8
Weight: 180 lbs
Appearance: His normal human body is that of a healthy-looking young human man with slightly pale skin, long light-brown hair, and a shadow of a beard. His usual attire consists of a light, unbuttoned black jacket and white t-shirt combo, with faded jeans, white sneakers and a grey skullcap, along with a tartan-patterned scarf loosely hanging around his neck.
His robot form is diminutive at 2 feet even, fairly lightweight and easy to carry when deactivated. Its exterior is jade-green, with a generally humanoid appearance, with two antenna-like earpieces that point upward above its head and dash-like eyes that glow a bright yellow light. It's clothed in a beige trench coat with a matching newsboy cap.
Personality: Sometimes pragmatic, sometimes impulsive, Rodney has been known to shift from one mindset to the other at the tip of a hat depending on the situation. Generally he'll be hesitant to do something risky at first without weighing his options, but once he's in the thick of it, he very much clicks into an act-first-think-later mentality, which sometimes works in his favor, and sometimes... not so much. He tends to like to have a good grasp on the scenario at hand, and usually gets quite frustrated when things get out of control.
Skills: Though physically capable by average human standards, most of Rodney's skills tend to rely on the miniature robot in his possession. He possesses what seems to be almost a psychic mental link with the machine, his mind being the only one that can activate it, placing his consciousness in the robot and controlling it at will. In his robot form, Rodney can fly through rocket boosters in his legs, launch missiles from his back, bombs from his left arm, and a particularly devastating beam attack from his right arm. He refrains from using any of these weapons unless his back is absolutely to the wall, as his limited experience with such weaponry can often lead to disastrous side-effects to the environment. Nonetheless, even without the weaponry, the robot itself is both durable and strong, much more so than what its size might imply, and is highly formidable in hand-to-hand combat. A major drawback to all of this however, is the fact that while Rodney is in his robotic body, his human one is left behind in a completely unresponsive state, in all its normal humanly vulnerable glory. He has no idea what would happen if it were to be destroyed while he was in robot-mode, but he really doesn't want to find out. Beyond the whole robot thing though, he's also a decent guitarist.
Past: WIP Might just leave it to be divulged in the RP proper.

Name: Osram Sinskethaern
Gender: Male
Age: 23
Height: 6’4”
Weight: 95 KG
Appearance: As a Dragonilk, Osram has a humanoid body, tall and quite gangly, but covered from the neck down in dark red scales, with lighter sand-coloured scales on his chest and the insides of his arms and legs. His face is human-like apart from sharp teeth and large horns growing back from the sides of his scalp. The ends of his fingers are hard and claw-like. In the field he's mostly seen in his leather armour, pale green and red.

Personality: Osram spent most of his life depending only on himself, and it shows. He comes off as stand-offish and brazen, often running his mouth without his thinking. It’s not out of ill intent, and he does like to connect with people, but his overconfidence leads to him showing off and trying to take charge at inopportune times.

Skills: On his homeworld of Xucri, Osram was a mercenary and a bounty hunter. His weapon of choice made him an effective killer; a tall war-axe with a blade of heartiron- a metal that channels spells, allowing the staff to be frozen or heated or otherwise altered if Osram expends the magic. Two recently acquired weapons are a twin pair of revolvers from Terrater- a technology unknown on Xucri, but highly interesting to Osram.

Past: After an early abandonment by his vagabond parents, Osram had to fend for himself as a child- and rather than starving, he thrived after a while. As an urchin he was deft and roguish, perfect for pickpocketing. As an adolescent with some budding strength, he became a versatile fighter- helped greatly by an apprenticeship with a master of the Ar’dathu- the way of the weapon and spell, a hard-to-master fighting style he worked tirelessly to get good at.

Where Osram grew up was a frontier- a vast continent, Ketolux, settled only recently, after the first steam-assisted ships managed to power through the winds always blowing back towards the lands of the Dragonilk. Different nations tried to stake their claim and sent parts of their population over with the promise of land. As such, there was a multitude of settlements but no overarching authority, leading to lawlessness in abundance.

This suited Osram just fine. For a man whose greatest talent was fighting, there was plenty of work to be done as a mercenary or bounty hunter. The money he amassed he lost just as quickly, mostly on drunken debauchery and stupid bets. Even at his young age life began to feel empty, so he tried out new professions, including that of guarding exploring parties who headed into the depths of the new continent. He rarely found more excitement than fighting a hungry beast, but on one trip, remains of a lost civilization were found.

The architecture of this civilization continued for as many days as they travelled, tall stone ruins stretching to the horizon no matter where they went. It was clear from the artifacts that the inhabitants had once been prosperous, and advanced not by technological means but magically. However, if the people themselves had not survived, perhaps their descendants had. Slender green-skinned creatures with large dark eyes and vine-hair chased down the party with export arrow and javelin shots, killing expeditioners faster than Osram could kill them back.

The party had to retreat to a central building, a maze of dark corridors splitting them up, still chased by the creatures. Only Osram and one scientist made it to a cavernous chamber with at its center a stone ring with a shimmering portal inside. The creatures seemed unwilling to follow them in, but Osram knew his choice was to stay there and starve, or go.

Osram came to Terrater.

So, just to clarify, is my bio accepted? (If you haven't noticed, I hate making assumptions.)
I will be waiting a certain period of time and then reviewing all profiles posted to this thread. I will then decide after review which profiles will be accepted. More than likely, that will be 5-6 individuals. I will ask for your patience in this matter. Thank you.

Before I consider asking to join, I have a couple questions, first.
1. How can we expect you to operate, Dwayna? As this is a universe of your own making, and a virtually limitless sandbox at that, will you take on a Dungeon Master type role? I'm looking to see how the chemistry works, here.
2. How consistently do you post in your own RP threads? Also: if this roleplay dies, will your post be the last one in it?
3. Which is more your style: improvised storytelling without an end in mind, or hitting the plot points of a premeditated story?

I sort of have first impressions already, via the Myths and Legend reference, but that was eight years ago. I'm sure a lot has changed. (https://pokecharms.com/threads/things-of-myth-and-legend-rp-version.8884/page-2)

1) Dungeon Master isn't entirely accurate, though I will be essentially having people interact with characters in my world setting. Terrater is a world accepting of people from multiple different backgrounds and lifestyles. This means different species, different cultures, different religions, different sexualities, etc.
2) As this is a passion project many years in the making, I expect to post often. The second question there is a bit weird though, as the RP hasn't even started yet.
3) I do a little bit of both styles, improvisation and storytelling. It really depends on what the other people involved want to end up doing.

Hope that helps.

Here's my bio! Sorry it took so long to manifest itself. If you have any critiques, let me know! ^_^

Name:
Alvin the Younger
Gender: Male
Birth place: Schly
Age: 27
Height: 169cm
Weight: 60kg
Hair: Alvin has messy greyish black hair that comes down to his collar bone in length. His bangs hang down to his eyebrows.
Eyes: Dark brown and lifeless from lack of motivation
Clothing: Alvin wears traditional Schlyk garments: long baggy pants and loose-fitting tunic of light colors and materials. In Alvin’s case he wears white to match his white hooded robe which signifies him as being a white mage. As the Schlyk have never known or worn shoes, he prefers to be barefoot. Carries a long wooden staff, the traditional Schlyk weapon, although Alvin uses it as a focus to direct healing spells to those too far away to touch.
Identifying Marks: Pointed ears as is common with his race.
Musculature: Despite constant training and practice as a young boy to be a warrior, Alvin has a scrawny build
Personality: Alvin is jaded, pessimistic, and cynical. But of course he would be that way when the one dream he had never came to fruition. “Dreams don’t come true and those who chase them are fools. You should just quietly accept the hand fate dealt you.” In his defeat he turned to alcohol to numb the pain. Alvin will get along with you alright so long as you aren’t a wide-eyed idealist preaching about your dreams and he’ll really like you if you’re a bartender. Despite his gruff exterior, the desire to protect what matters to him that drove him to try to become a warrior in the first place still exists deep down.
Skills: A gifted white mage, he can heal just about any wound within reasonable limits. If someone loses a limb he can reattach it so long as they still have the limb handy (pun not intended). If the limb is lost it cannot be regenerated. The best he could do in that case is close the wound to prevent infection and further blood loss. The same is true for damaged organs, they can be repaired but not replaced. Healing ailments are child’s play to him. As an alcoholic he can heal himself to quickly sober up if needed. He is also able to cast protective spells to block status ailments and barriers to protect against attacks though he can only sustain the barriers for a few minutes or less depending on the intensity of the assault. Skills he wishes he had are combat skills. No matter how hard he practiced or trained he just plain sucks at fighting.
Past: To the Schlyks being a warrior was equivalent to being a ball playing athlete on other worlds. The competitions were fierce, the arenas were packed with fans, and the revenue was only matched by the fame of the competitors. If fame and fortune were what you desired, the path of the warrior was the one to take. Matches were usually determined by one party yielding or being too worn out to stand. Warriors were well disciplined which made injury rare and death rarer. In the event of accidental death, the fallen warrior would be recognized with honor and his or her family compensated for their loss. Such was the fate of Alvin the Elder leaving his wife, Bru, widowed and his daughter and newborn son without a father. After Alvin’s funeral pyre, the family left Schly with the compensation granted for Alvin’s death to start a new life on Terrater, a world that had recently visited their own and established a portal connecting the two.
As Alvin the Younger grew, he was determined to become a great warrior like the father he never got a chance to know.
If he was still on Schly he could battle in the arena like his father, but on Terrater Alvin could at least put his combat skills to good use by protecting his new home as a member of the Enforcement Guild. However the young boy had three things going against him: he was short by Schlyk standards, he was scrawny, and he had no talent for combat whatsoever. He would practice martial arts but his form was always wrong even with other Schlyks on Terrater teaching him. Alvin tried using a Schlyk staff but he would just aimlessly swing it. He tried practicing with wooden swords but that was no better than the staff. He tried archery but the arrows always misfired. No matter how hard Alvin worked or what different styles he tried, he would make no progress and he would always end up injuring himself in the process. In his frustration with the lack of results in his training, Alvin would challenge other kids to fights and he’d always be the one laying on the ground beaten. Yet his injuries always healed quickly with no ill effects no matter how they were caused.
Feeling worried about her son, Bru took Alvin to see a doctor who quickly noted that the young Schlyk had a latent talent for white magic and had been unconsciously healing himself. This was a shock to Alvin and his family to be sure as magic was unknown to their race but as the doctor explained, anyone living on Terrater would manifest some form of magical ability after living on the world long enough. Alvin was recommended to train under a white mage by the name of Quimby who could teach him how to harness his power to heal not just himself but others as well. For Alvin though this was like a slap in the face. All he ever wanted was to be a great warrior able to battle proudly like his father and to protect what he cared about but instead he was being relegated to healing those great warriors. While he did put forth the effort in his studies to master his abilities as Terrater law required he get some sort of profession when he was of age, he still fell into a depressive state which led to alcoholism later in life.
