Private/Closed “The Isles of Wær” RP

"-Wait? He sent his own troops to escort me to Il'vhin Ghardé...he didn't have to do that...I had a ship ready....well...it would be rude to refuse the escort Morai sent all the way to Habouokami to get me...." she thought taking the letter from one of the females as she opened to read it. She closed the letter before getting off DawnAngel as she rested one hand on her neck gently petting her. "I am all set to go and besides there is something..." important" I want to discuss with your lord in private. Something doesn't make sense to me about something but if you're ready then let's go, DawnAngel?" she said looking to the North Swedish Horse. DawnAngel neighed a bit as she slowly approached the ship before raising her front leg slowly to enter inside using the ramp to go up before finding a place to stand at for the moment. She looked back at the forest for the moment as she was a bit worried to leave her country unguarded but she trained them well to hide in the shadows. "-I'll be back soon-" she thought before entering the ship herself. She made her way to DawnAngel before patting her neck to lay down. She neighed a bit before lowering herself down to lay on the floor folding her front legs under her but her hind legs rested out a bit to the side as she saw JC sit down next to her seeing her pull out a notebook writing something.

The assassins respond to the attacks viciously, they cut down the nobleman with ease, slicing at throats and chests alike, the problem would have been the spear-men , if it weren't for the late intervention of their reinforcements, a platoon of 1000 lawbringers and 500 archers moved in from the right, lead by Cpt. Ariah Lightwood, they charged into the spear-men, while the assassins dealt with the peasantry, it was a measly task as the lawbringers crushed the spear-men. Simultaneously Cpt. Gray, faced down the madman, ducking under his sword, she kicked him from his horse and wrapping her legs around his neck and twisting hard, snapping his neck. (@Pokéboy098 I can change this if you don't won't him dead).

Cpt. Lightwood walked up to Cpt. Gray, "The 25th Bam wants us to head to the island north-east of Kruix", Cpt. Gray nodded and turned to the assassins, "right, we're moving out, except for you lot, Scout Reyes and Medic Griffin, you two will remain with a team of 25 soldiers, just to check the area and wait to see who comes along." After saying this, she turned and left with Cpt. Lightwood and sailed off to the island.

The message got back just before sunset, and General Korika Cyiti sent another messenger back telling him that they should both meet at a neutral location just between the camp and their city, with only 2 guards on either side.

Although this meeting looked promising, he ordered his soldiers to chop down some of the nearby woods in order to set up walls, barricades, and battering rams (although he didn’t expect the enemy to have build any significant stone walls around their city in such a short amount of time).

Only once he was finished with giving this order did he travel to the meeting place with 2 of his fellow horsemen. All he could do now as wait and hope the enemy didn’t betray his trust, as well as their own honor.

The King of Necromegalopolis had his fears corrected when he could hear the loud screaming of war and death above him. Only when it started to tone down had he come out of his little bunker, shoving his bed aside. He looked to the assasins below, and waved to them, signing them to come up to him. Then, he grabbed the flag of Il'vhin Ghardé that was resting in a corner, normally to be used to replace one of the castle's flag posts. He held it out from his tower window, to sign which side he was on. The remaining survivors who either managed to hide out the war or kept the soldiers from killing them slowly begun moving out of their houses, shaking from head to toe in fear. They looked on to see not the Kriux soldiers patrol the area, but another nation fend them off and kill their attackers. The townsfolk begun cheering for the assasins and their troops and waved them farewell as they moved away. Then, they put their weapons away and begun cleaning up their town, trusting that their saviours would not turn against them suddendly.

The crew of the small gondola begun rowing again as soon as JC and her steed had gotten on, moving gently across the two seas. After some time, they managed to arrive at the Il'vhin Thanéum bay where the boat took off. The boat was bound to a fence by the docks and the crew got off, the few of them offering JC and her steed a helping hand to get off the boat. The dock itself seemed impressive for its being; a round roof with wooden framework and glass set inbetween each thick rectangular plank of wood, letting the sun shine into the building. The walls were made with cut stone and concrete slapped inbetween, making a sturdy, water-resistant foundation for the case of water spilling over. There was a large door leading out of the dock where boats of all kinds, be it a rowing boat, a battleship or a tradecraft vessel could move in and out of the dock freely. The Head-General and Advisor of Morai Madora, Vale Míleyne. A skinny, tanned man with simple white curled hair, blue eyes and a white stubbly beard. Vale bowed to JC, then spoke up.
" Welcome to Il'vhin Ghardé, Ms. JC. Morai was awaiting your arrival. Shall I lead thee to the fortress Thanéum? "

This time, a hunter came into the throne room, and through connections of the other hunters, especially those who managed to hide out the assault, he had gotten valuable information on the situation at Necromegalopolis. He explained to Morai that Luciferi Obumbratio's troops had succesfully cleared the island of any remaining Kiux. Morai smirked and waved the Hunter away, moving to his resting chambers to write yet another letter. He dedicated this to the 25th Bam, declaring that with the clearance of Necromegalopolis, the island shall be his to keep. Whether or not Bam would want to colonize it would be up to him. Morai explained that he would merely send troops over to Necromegalopolis to check in on any survivors and take them back to Majoráeth, then only to send over some merchants every now and again to trade with the Obumbratio Kingdom, as it was set so close to his own region. He finished the letter with a thanks and wrapped it together, again to his eagle's foot, sending him off again to the Luciferi Obumbratio Kingdom for the 25th Bam to read the letter.

She placed one hand on her chest while the other one was behind her. DawnAngel seemed to follow her body language as she raised one leg up and bowed her head a bit. "Please lead the way, I don't want to waste any more of his time then I need to this is...a private matter between us two" she added as Everest followed what DawnAngel was doing as she opened her wings a bit bowing.

The Council of Chieftains were quick to decide that an initial survey of the lands they'd been promised was essential. Chieftains Einar and Kari boarded two of their longships, with the combined five hundred soldiers that they'd been able to field so far, along with a few dozen early engineers, builders, farmers and researchers to decide on the best place on the islands to begin their first settlements.

Initial intel on the first island showed promise. Nothing special, but certainly fertile soil, trees, and fish. Everything necessary for a self-sufficient addition to the Commonwealth. A few of the surveyors were concerned about the lack of any minerals, but with support from the rest of Holm, it had the potential to flourish into a great settlement. The next island was going to be a lot more interesting though, especially with the greater distance between it and the Holm Islands. Einar and Kari elected to continue ahead with most of the surveyors and half of their soldiers in one longship, and send the rest back to Hjarta to deliver their assessment to the rest of the Council.

"So what about Heild, then?" Kari asked, on the deck of the longship. "It fits with the naming scheme."
"If by fitting with the naming scheme, you mean putting a H at the start of the name," Einar responded. "You've done that with every suggestion so far."
"Well, then what about-"
"I never said I didn't like it. We'll have to ask Ragna and Balder too, but I don't see anything wrong with it so far. The Island of Heild, I can see that."
"We're gonna need to get a new Chieftain for them too. Are there any notable family lines that we trust?"
"I thought that you and Balder wanted this island to be a cultural mix of all four of ours, not something new?"
"It's gonna end up like that regardless," Kari said, "we're gonna need someone to focus on administering this new island. Besides, won't it be great to avoid all the ties in council votes?"
"Unless it ends up just becoming hopelessly one sided-"

The two chieftains were cut off a soldier. "The island is in view! There are buildings!"
Lo and behold, there were multiple buildings on the coast and cliffs of the island. From a distance, they couldn't tell much, except that they certainly weren't the first to decide to settle that particular island. They decided to get closer before making any concrete decision on what to do.
When they did get closer, they realised three important things. Firstly, there were ships there too. Secondly, those ships bore the flags of the two nations that had recently offered them alliances. And thirdly, there was minor damage on the surrounded Kytiromean ships, the ruins of at least one floating on the sea and strewn among the rocks, and the Hallowian ships were arranged in what looked like a blockade.

"Should we... turn around?" Kari asked. "It looks like there's been some sort of battle.
"No." Einar replied. "This is the perfect opportunity to observe the naval capability of our new allies."
"There's. A lot more ships than we could build on our own. That's all we really need to know at this point." Kari countered.
"Still," Einar said. "I'd like to see how this goes."

Elkor sat waiting as Korik arrived at the meeting place, he had sent a single man ahead of both parties to erect a tent for the pair to negotiate in private. Either side of him his guards stood stiffly waiting with flintlocks in hand but not aimed at the approaching trio
“Ah so the unknown invading general finally has a face, I am Elkor, Lord of Soul-mine and guardian of the island. I notice your forces charged directly through our defenses but didn’t turn to attack any of the guard towers, didn’t pillage any villages either. I can only assume you have come to seize control of the islands mines, I believe this whole situation was all caused by our military leader one Lord Commander Scorpius. Our nations are not that dissimilar you know, we even share a mutual ally in the Holm Commonwealth. I offer you the chance to prevent unnecessary bloodshed, cease your advance, join us in a mutual alliance and we will grant you access to the mines of the eastern half of the island” He called out as Korik arrived and the pair entered the tent

Korika was astonished by this deal. “That is pretty tempting. The way I see it we have two options. I can take your deal, and we can split the island. I don’t mind that, but this is the land I would want from it.”
He passed the enemy a map (attached image below). Then he continued, “or I could not take your deal, and you could take the deal I was going to offer: a scheduled pitch battle to decide who gets the island, where we would both meet our armies tomorrow morning, and the loser has to leave the island.”
He was pretty sure he would win a pitch battle, but he didn’t know if the loss of blood would be worth it, so he said, “Let me think it over, and if tomorrow morning I go out to the field with my full army in formation, you will have your answer.”

Elkor looked over the map, scooping it up in his arms and grabbing a stick of charcoal from an unlit brassiere, drawing a thick black line across the island (see attached)
“This is my land offer, but it comes with a price. The unification of our two Nations under a mutual alliance. Together with the Holm Commonwealth our three nations could expand our reaches far beyond our current borders.” Elkor knew he had peaked his counterparts interest “We could be the fore-fathers of an alliance that will stretch across this world like an unstoppable wave of conquest. The decision is yours” with that Elkor rose from his seat and exited the tent his men following him as he slowly walked his way toward their three secured horses.
“When you come to officially accept my offer, I shall welcome you to Soul-Mine as a brother. This island is too large and too valuable to be wasting time squandering resources on pointless fighting, accept my deal and let us build up the island as allies, pool our resources against the enemies who will no doubt come to try and claim the island for themselves and something makes me think they won’t be willing to bargain.” He called out as he mounted his stead, a cautious tone in his voice “we shall see the
result of your musings in the morn” with a final look back at his Kytiromean counterpart he set off, riding his way back toward Soul-mine just as the last of the orange dusk glow faded from the skies

Elkor’s land offer (colourised)

Korika went back to his camp with the map in hand. He wasn’t sure whether he really wanted to accept this, but Elkor did have a point. They were similar nations and they probably should work together.
I guess I’ll accept this in the morning,” he thought as he went to bed. “I hope that our other allies aren’t mad that they won’t get the whole island.

Head-General Vale turned and walked to the exit of the docks. " Right away. After me, Ms. Wolfa. " he said, walking out. He waved to four sentinels that stood guard at the door, having them escort them both to the Fortress. They walked through the city, Vale took this chance to show the Queen atleast some bits of Il'vhin Ghardé's Capital. Then, he walked up a long set of stairs, leading up to a large fortress set with cut stone, concrete and metal plating. There were even concrete and stone walls around it, aswell as around the city itself. He opened the gates to the fortress, pushing them open as they weren't blocked currently. He walked inside, leading JC to the throne room, where Morai sat. Vale saluted to his Overlord and went away, walking back to his room. " Ah, JC Wolfa. Welcome to Il'vhin Ghardé, more specifically, welcome to Il'vhin Thanéum. I've been awaiting your arrival. " He said, standing up, walking forward a bit. " I'm afraid your steed will have to wait outside. We do not keep animals in here, not even house pets. To keep this fortress clean, I'm sure you understand. " Morai said, waving over one of his butler servants. " Take care of JC's steed while we talk. Lead her outside, but do not keep her out in the open if she doesn't want to. You will stay at her side until I call you back, upon which you will come back with Ms. Wolfa's steed. " He commanded the servant. The man nodded and walked to JC Wolfa. " Ma'am, I hope you don't mind if.. "

“Ready the defenses, despite my negotiating the Kytiromeans could always choose to attack us” Elkor commanded as he entered the outer gates of Soul-Mine’s slowly expanding castle
“Very well my lord” his squire disappeared into the night to pass on the lords orders

~~~ The Morning ~~~
The last of the castles preparations were just being completed as Elkor awoke, sleepLessness had plagued him all night, having only managed to claw himself 4 hours worth of rest. Regardless he quickly rose from his bed and dressed himself, a simple set of Hallowian military general armor paired with his noble cape
“Any word from the Kytiromeans?” He asked entering his relatively small main hall
“not of yet my lord, but out scouts are yet to all check in, regardless the castle walls have been fortified, the gate houses secured. All is ready for their arrival be it peaceful or hostile”
“Let us simply hope for the later” his words trailing off as he stared out over the vast plains of the island scanning for an indication of movement
As soon as Korika woke up, he sent word to a scout to get on a horse and fly a white flag towards Soulmine in order to signal that they were not going to fight.
Once the scout was far enough ahead, Korika himself rode on towards the city, and he ordered his army to begin marching back to the ships. Once he arrived, he told the guards at the gate, “Tell your general that he has a deal, but I can’t meet him in person because my forces are being ordered to go to our nearby settlement. They are going to name it after me and I need to be there.”
Once this was done, Korika went to the island just next door to this one and was present at the naming ceremony.
Meanwhile, Wren was looking where to expand to next, and he saw that if they could get control of the trade between their own lands and Luciferi Obumbratio, then they would make a lot of money. So, he began training armies for a war against his neighbor, and he sent Luciferi Obumbratio a warning message: “Surrender your northern coast to us as shown in this map or we will take it from you.”
The morning came for the two Chieftains too.
"They're still there." Einar commented, from the deck of the ship. "Should we find an alternate route round and check things out?"
Kari shrugged. "You're the one who wants to do this. The fact that the boats haven't obliterated eachother yet is promising though, maybe we can get close enough to figure things out without getting blown up."
The longship sailed to the south of the island, to where Soul-Mine was. Kari and Einar left the ship with a group of twelve guards, and express orders to the ship not to be spotted. They walked up to the gates of Soul-Mine just in time to see Korika leave. Kari looked at Einar. "What was that about?"
Einar didn't respond, and walked to the gate.
"What the heck was all of that?" he asked a guard.
"We're from the Holm Commonwealth, by the way." Kari added. "Your allies."
DawnAngel neighed a bit uncomfortable about leaving JC's side as Everest felt the same way but the girls saw JC react quickly. "I understand Lord Morai" she answered in a calm way. She gently grabbed the mare's face gently petting her to calm her down then did the same to Everest. "Calm down DawnAngel and Everest, I will be alright here as long as the place is guarded well if you want to stay hidden then you can and you as well Everest," she said calming them both down as she moved Everest from her shoulder to DawnAngel's head. "I entrust you with my horse please take well care of her and my owl, I feel more comfortable when they are hidden just in case" she added hearing DawnAngel neigh a bit gently nudging her before following along with the butler. "She is like that for a "certain" reason so I can't really blame her for feeling uncomfortable by leaving my side but anyway, there is something private I would like to speak with you about Lora Morai, it's urgent. Can we discuss this in a more private room so no one can hear your Highness" she said as she went down to one knee placing her right hand on her chest with respect as she bowed to him.
While waiting for a response from Luciferi Obumbratio, Wren ordered his brother and his brother’s elite army to set forth again on their ships, leaving the city of Korika and heading north. Soon enough due to favorable winds, the ships arrived in the harbor of Otso Beltza. Korika exited the boat and said to some of the people there, “Where is your leader? I would like to speak with them about the land just south of here over the Otso Mountains.”
" Oh, no worries. Here in Thanéum, safety is our upmost priority. Why do you guess we equip our troops so well? " Morai laughed lightly. " But yes, if you wish to speak in a more private setting, then come along. " He said, walking towards a stairwell. He went up it, going onto one of the fortress' many bridges that connected their many towers and went up another stairwell, taking it up to his resting chambers. These were the same chambers he had written his previous letters before. " There's a metal post there you can use to block the door. " He said, pointing to the steel rectangle attached to the wall that could be closed over the door, preventing it to be opened since it could only be opened from the outside. " Now, what is it you wanted to talk about that is so private? "
She grabbed the steel rectangle and placed it on the door to keep it shut before walking back up to Morai. "I fail to understand something, I don't know which country is doing the right thing or the wrong thing. Correct me if I am wrong here but, you sent me messages with your eagle saying the reason why you attacked Kiux without warning because they suddenly overtook Necromegalopolis saying Kiux were a big threat but then something else came to me which was this letter" she paused pulling out a folded letter from Kiux before handing it to him. "Kiux says that your country opposes a threat due to an expansion that would be a threat to everyone. I am a very understanding person as I let others give their reasons first before I even decide which explanation seems like a threat to me and must be done right. I like to hear your story on this to see which one I should be and trust if you don't mind saying so. Trust is a very fragile word to me, as I don't just hand it over like candy, it must be earned from me. I don't know who to ally and who to call my enemy...because where I am now...let's just say I am "Limited" to troops right now thanks to the war 6 years ago..." she finished folding her arms against her chest as she moved her head to the side a bit as the wolf mask she was wearing seemed to hide that confused look on her face.
Elkor saw the sole rider approaching the city before stopping suddenly and racing off again
“It seems our Kytiromean friends have come to finalize our alliance. But what ever could be pulling them away I am unsure, Squire! Tell our people to end the blockade and allow their ships to leave” Elkor mused to himself before calling for his underling.
“Alert the miners to return to work, bring the builders to the main hall, we have much more construction to continue with”
Bam wrote a letter back to Morai stating his gratitude before sending his crow off again. At the same time he received the threat from Wren and bristled, rising from his seat and giving out orders, regretfully 3 of his Captains were otherwise occupied, but he still had a good chunk of his army left, instantly setting to having the remainder of his Lawbringers and archers, he hadn't sent to Necromegalopolis, stationed in defense of the land in question, he would not be threatens into anything, he would have spoken to Wren, but the threat was insulting to Bam, he had his assassins ready and waiting to do there work while the main force worked as a distraction.
Since no reply had been sent back, Wren could only assume that the southern neighbor was not going to hand over their land. So, he conscripted the largest peasant force he could get to supplement his army. This added about 40000 untrained soldiers (who began training immediately until lo of their weapons were crafted) to his well-trained standing army. He knew this would be a tough fight, and he ordered as many blacksmiths as possible to begin manufacturing weapons, while ship-crafters began building a larger fleet. It would take a while for them to be ready to declare war, but he had the time.
Meanwhile, he had his brother Korika send the 2000 musket-men under his command back to Kyt. He would need a standing defensive force if they counterattacked.
Korika was busy meeting with Shadow, whom the villager had told him to meet with in the absence of their leader, about the usage of the unclaimed land below Otso Beltza (and more importantly, whether he could take a small portion for a northern colony.
Shadow looked to Korika as he didn't seem to like the idea about her asking about the unclaimed land just below Otso Beltza. He acted naturally as he took a breath before speaking. "What exactly are you going to do with the unclaimed below Otso Beltza Korika?" he asked as a Barn owl sat on his shoulder resting cleaning at her feathers as she ruffled herself from time to time. Shadow didn't want anything industrial built there since it would affect the growing herbs greatly but he had to listen to Korika's reasoning as to why she wants the unclaimed land. He would have to discuss this with his sister JC once she does since she mainly leads Otso Zuria the capital.
Kari and Einar didn't really understand the situation between the Kytiromeans and Soulhallow, except that apparently they were going to share the island. That was absolutely fine by them, since the distance and size of the island meant that they didn't really have the capacity to fully defend it, and the split of the mines that they'd get was more than enough to supply their tiny army. Throughout the coming unspecified length of time, the Council sought to expand their colony on Heild, the closest island to them, and gain more information about the diplomatic situation around them. Through their alliances, Heild flourished, and though no suitable fifth Chieftain could be found in such short notice, the settlement was already partially self-sufficient owing to the hard work of their settlers.
With the Harvest Season fully completed, the Council of Chieftains met for another meeting, this one mainly focusing on their relations with their allies.
"Honestly, our allies in Kytirome are beginning to worry me," Balder said.
Einar huffed. "Took you long enough. Kytirome's sent threats and ultimatums to everyone around us. They're gonna get us all killed in a pointless war, if they don't turn on us first."
"That's not necessarily what I was thinking," Balder said. "That Wren guy hasn't been King for very long, has he? With all the wars that he might get himself in, there's always the chance that he ends up exhausting his entire nation's resources."
"That's rich, coming from the Chieftain who's only been on the council for a few months." Einar rebuked. "Listen, King Wren's expansionism is becoming a problem and we're going to need to find other allies."
Ragna nodded. "We should attempt to strengthen ties with Soulhallow. I move that we offer some sort of agreement where, if one of us gets into a war with Kytirome, the other is obligated to declare war as well."
"We can try to strengthen the alliance," Kari said. "Soulhallow also sent an alliance offer to Sodroaca Ostral a while back, but I don't think they got a response. It'd be wise to follow that up with one of our own."
"Very well." Balder said. "Einar can travel back to Soul-Mine and try to organise an audience with the Soulhallow King, and I'll go with Kari to Sodroaca Ostral with an alliance offer."
"Remember," Einar said. "Our 'allies' in Kytirome are not to know of this."
So, Einer, Balder and Kari took two of the longships and a small group of guards, to give their offers to Soulhallow and Sodroaca Ostral. Einer arrived at Soul-Mine pretty soon, and moved back to the gates of the castle, hoping to meet with whoever was in charge. Meanwhile Balder and Kari made their way just off the coast of Sodroaca Ostral, where they stopped to plan their next moves.
" So they did create that letter.. I already assumed that this letter would be made, in an attempt to save themselves from the deep mistake they begun. ..hm.. how about I do you one better. Instead of telling you how this story went, I'll take you on a little trip. Show you what the Kiux kingdom did to the island once belonged to us. It should be safe there now, the Luciferi Obumbratio Kingdom's had their assasins take care of Kiux soldiers. On the way back we can pass by the Kiux capital, since their region is now allied with us. As it turned out, whoever gave the order controlled the throne follower, who was a mere 7-year old daughter of the queen, if our troops' information is correct. Such tyranny.. I'd have left them alone, too. Had whoever gave the order just remained peaceful, I would've sooner or later tried allying with them. ..but, things are over now. Come, we shall ride with our steeds to the sites. " Morai spoke, removing the blockage from the door and heading outside, into the throne room, then to the outside, where he met with the butler.
" You have done well. Miss Wolfa will have her steed back now. Now go and bring me Razor. " He spoke to his servant. The servant nodded and walked down the stairs leading up to the castle, taking a left towards the stables. Soon enough, the servant came back, holding a chain leading a... grizzly bear. However, this grizzly bear seemed oddly bigger and mightier than common bears. It was noticeable it had armor on made of chain, platinum and steel. A socket was on the front helmet of the bear, with the kingdom's flag inside a gold emblem in it. The servant detached the chain from the bear's collar and took it off, then bowed to the two royals before taking off again. Morai approached the bear and mounted the saddle on its back. " May I present to you my steed and trusted friend; Razor. Coming from a row of ancestors, Razor was bred to be in top condition, which is why he seems bigger than your common grizzly's. Usually, I use him as a steed into battles, as I have a seperate steed for traversing the lands. But, I haven't ridden with him for a while, so I thought I may take him out for a simple walk now, to say the least. "
The first boatload of minerals from the mines of Soul-mine had finally arrived back in Shroadveil, with the best metal workers coming to examine the haul, each observing the various ores and minerals and placing bids on the samples they wished to begin working with. Mallick stood on one of the castle balconies over looking the courtyard when a waiting attendant entered the room
“My King, there is a convoy from the Holm Commonwealth to see you they seek a private audience with you.”
“Very well, bring them to the council chambers, summon the Lord council, I want them with me for this.” He said absentmindedly as he pulled himself away from the people watching and wandered his way into the Council chambers taking a seat at the head of the table facing the thick reinforced ironwood double doors.
Korika wanted to be careful with his reply. He could sense that what he said would affect whether or not he got the land. Well, they couldn’t really stop him from getting the land, since it was unclaimed, he just wanted to be nice and ask first.
So, Korika said, “I want to make a trade colony there. Mostly a port to help our northern expansion. And it won’t be very big, I only need a small portion of the land.”
———————————————
Wren was frustrated with his international relations. His needed ships to transport troops had been constructed, but he didn’t quite have all of his peasants supplied with a weapon yet. Luckily though, Kytirome was a large island chain and it was full of resources. He would get the supplies to declare war eventually, it was just a matter of time. And then, he could take the land that would nearly double his trade profits.
Einar bowed respectfully as he entered Mallick’s Council Chambers. It was much like his own council chambers in a way, with of course, the addition of the one central authority sitting down directly opposite him. King Mallick. Einar took in a breath, and began to speak
“Great King Mallick. I travelled here today from across the sea, with one major goal in mind. The continued protection of my peoples, and by extension, the continued protection of yours. I’m sure you’ve noticed as much as I have that our allies in Kytirome have put in a lot of effort towards expansion. While we are willing to trust them for now, there’s always the lingering risk that they’ll turn their expansionist ways towards us once they destroy their enemies.”
Einar produced a sheet of parchment. “I wrote this on the way here, though I expect you’ll want to modify the agreement. Essentially, we wish for an agreement with you that, if we both believe that our ally’s invasions have gotten out of hand, we will join forces to attempt to rein them in.”
She was actually surprised that Morai's ride was a....grizzly bear. She knew an animal like that was difficult to train until she felt the head of a horse slide under her arm. "DawnAngel, alright calm down let's get going shall we" she told the mare as she got on her back holding her reins. "Your rider kind of surprised me, I thought it was going to be a horse but I guess I am not the only one training wild animals these days since Everest is not the only pet animal I have" she said feeling Everest's Talons grasping her shoulder again. "Lead the way your highness" she said in a calm way as DawnAngel nieghed kicking the ground with her hoof giving a snort.
"A trade colony?" He questioned. "There wouldn't be anything industrial built now will there? I just want to make sure nothing dangerous will be there because of the crops with grow here which is our main source with the Capital of Otso Zuria and its cites" he added wanting to have a clear answer.
Bam was worried, there was a high chance he wouldn't win against Wren's forces, so he turned to one of his advisers. "Send those new incendiary barrels we made to the North coast, span them equal along the lands there and rig them together as a last resort, if we lose, we set them off and torch the land, he will not have it". He then sent a command to the troops who had helped out at Necromegalopolis, he needed them back immediately. Captains Gray and Lightwood, recieved the order via crow and set off to return.
Korika replied, “No, I promise. Nothing industrial.”
He didn’t really mean it, but he was lying pretty convincingly.
Meanwhile, King Wren had his forces ready to set off from their coastal city of Anais to land just across the sea (map attached below of where they landed). They had to use their full navy for the operation, and if a freak storm cam by and sank it all, it would be the greatest tragedy in Kytiromean history. For this purpose, Wren had waited a long time for the perfect weather, with a wind blowing southward to make the trip even quicker and allow his forces (and him, because he wanted to get some action, and his brother was away) to surprise the enemy with their speed.
So, 70 ships with 60000 men on them (the musket-men were left behind to guard the homeland) set forth across the sea towards their enemy. Sure, 40000 of them weren’t professionals, but they had trained for a while while the ships and equipment (which was plenty for the entire force, and although they had no armor, they still had shields) had been built.
Bam recieved word that the enemy had arrived, as had his final troops but each were on opposite sides of the north coast, it would take them more time than hoped to reach the enemy, but Bam wasn't worried about ship's even though he lacked siege weapons, he had many traps that were his main line of defense, from spike traps to pits and explosives. He had rode his way down to the North coast hiding with his assassins in the trees and bushes, the main body marched to stand strong, the Lawbringers flanked by the archers ready to intercept those who made it through the traps.
After the first traps got set off, Wren changed his marching formation so that the peasants marched ahead of the better soldiers in order to preserve them from the traps, of which there were a lot.
Once he was close enough to the enemy formation, he stopped marching and set up. He sent his archers to the front line and had them fire on the enemy, but was prepared to move them back if necessary. Then he sent his cavalry onto the flanks and hand them charged in and then retreat and repeat again and again, hoping to harass the flanks of the enemy formation.
Shadow had this bad feeling he was lying as Korika thought he was stupid. He folded his arms against his chest as he would have to send Gertrude to JC and let her know what was really going on here. He didn't want the herbs they had taken so much time in growing to be destroyed as those herbs were the only thing that helps with bad injuries. He thought of a way to prevent him from pushing any further. "You will have to wait until the leader returns before you can even claim the land if you can't wait then you can leave now," he said a bit stern leaving no room for argument as Gertrude only listened to what Shadow was saying and even his reaction as she thought of her sister Everest for the moment wondering if she was ok.
“Your Proposal is interesting, though I have a few observations, firstly your military and naval forces don’t appear to be up to scratch compared to the Kytiromean or Hallowian militaries. So when you say that you would assist us in a hypothetical war against the Kytiromeans I feel that it would be my own forces who would be doing the heavy lifting. I also must ask if you have considered that this agreement is in a way a self-fulfilling prophecy, the very thing which would turn Kytiromean aggression toward us.” He rolled his eyes at the short sightedness of his guests “I find it very interesting that it was your government who sent the Kytiromeans to Soul-mine, your government the reason which we lost half of the island, your government trying to force us into conflict with Kytirome. Which is exactly what you are trying to do now...”
The realization hitting him that the Holm Commonwealth was not as innocent as they had seemed.
“Leave this place, you are not welcome in Shroudveil, guards! Escort these individuals to their ship and ensure they leave immediately” a group of four men wielding swords and large shields stepped out of the shadows and nodded at the kings commands leading the men out of the council chambers
“Willem send a message to our friends in Kyt, I believe they would want to know about the Holm attempts to undermine and betray them.” Mallick spurred into action once the heavy doors had finally swung closed
“It shall be done at once my King” Willem turned upon his heels and briskly exited headed not for the main rookery but rather his personal bird cage atop his own spire.
“Scorpius how are our defenses coming along? Have the new watchtowers been completed?” He turned a noticeable measure of haste in his voice
“They have, the last fortifications were completed mere days ago. We have also begun expanding the Soul-fort to act as a fully sufficient naval fortress to moor a defense fleet upon.”
“Good, instruct the smiths to begin work equipping our ships with rams and set the army on standby, we may be launching an assault”
“Lord Brackelm, do we have enough men on Soul-mine to take back the island without reinforcements?”
“Well my king it is my belief that we do, the island was only given up under the pretense it was for Kytirome not Holm. I believe we would be able to remove the Holm Presence from the island unassisted should we need to”
“In the wars to come we may need the full resources of that island, keep an eye on the situation. In the meantime set the axemen and shipbuilders to work, if we are to succeed we need to be able to mobile our forces”
“Yes your majesty” he bowed respectfully before exiting the room himself.
“What is this world coming to, supposed allies trying to turn us against our strongest ally. What would you have done father” Mallick mumbled to himself as he rose from his chair and wandered his way off toward the great hall, the city populace always wanting to bring their matters before the king to deliver his justice
Razor begun running out of the city, along a stone bridge leading across the gap between Thanéum and the main island. Morai rid him to the site of Necromegalopolis, and across a path in the water where it was shallow enough to walk on. He came riding into the town and looked on to the citizens, who bowed to his presence and went back to their business sweeping up the streets and cleaning the town from its wreckage. " Look. This is what is left of the raid on Necromegalopolis. He said, pointing at the loads of bodies in the streets, half of Il'vhin Hunters and half of the citizens. Most of them had been moved into a pile by the survivors and was to be set ablaze to be disposed of. Some citizens were still gathering bodies, even those of children. One boy was sitting by the well, crying. Morai had noticed him and got off Razor, approaching the boy. " What's wrong, young one? " He asked. The boy told him that his parents had hid him inside the cellar of their house, under a hatch located beneath his parent's bed. He said that his parents couldn't do anything about it, and before the hatch closed he saw them pick up their weapons. He said, whimpering, how he could hear strange men barge into their house and slay his parents. He heard them laugh and mock the death of their parents, then it grew silent in the house. Morai was silent for a few seconds, then sat down with the boy and pat him on the back, hugging him for comfort. " 's brutal business, I know. Your parents had given their everything to protect you. To keep you safe. Listen boy.. " He said, standing up to kneel infront of the boy, looking him eye to eye while holding the boy's shoulders. " You need to be strong now. Your parents wouldn't want to see you in such misery. They did their best to keep you happy and alive. Now, it is up to you to defend yourself and survive. You can make them proud, I'm sure of it. Now come, I'm sure someone here would be happy to adopt you into their family. Life will get better, I promise. " He told the boy, wiping his tears away and standing up, walking away. The boy slowly stopped crying, but still remained sat on the fountain wall. He walked back to Razor, and looked up to the King of the City, waving the kingdom's flag. " Hey, Aróe! The fight's over! The remaining soldiers are from the Luciferi Obumbratio Kingdom! I allowed the 25th Bam to keep this city as a thanks for saving you! Pack your things, I'll explain to the people! " He explained to the King, shouting it up to him. Aróe nodded quickly and pulled the flag back, going back into his room. Morai got back up on Razor and looked to JC. " This destruction and sorrow.. this was caused by the stray advisor who left the young queen's side. ..hm, I think that might be him over there. " He said, pointing to a head on a pike, with the remaining survivors booing at it, insulting it and throwing different kinds of things in sheer anger at it. There were other things piked up next to it, which looked like troops from the Kiux Kingdom as Morai had recognized them. People were even angrier at the dead Kiux soldiers, going as far as to even beat on them. Then Morai rid into the center of the town. " Everyone! Gather up, this is an important message. " He shouted into the area. Everyone around gathered up and listened closely. " Today we have both lost and won a battle. A massacre occured at this very city, but we have won control over the Kiux Kingdom itself by invading their capital! I apologize for not arriving sooner, but the Kiux were cocky enough to attempt an attack at Majoráeth aswell! Now, this town belongs to the Luciferi Obumbratio Kingdom, who the assasins that saved you belong to. Please, if you have anything left, pack it up and get moving to Majoráeth. I will give word for soldiers to arrive and help you during the travel there, so do not worry! Today, despite the massacre, we had won the greater victory than our enemy! " He finished, ending his speech. Upon realization, the townsfolk cheered partially, unhappy that they had to leave the city, but also beyond happy that they could start a new life in Majoráeth, the known city used for trading across countries in Il'vhin Ghardé. Morai turned Razor around, but ordered him to stay. Then, he looked to JC again, and said. " If it's not too much of a problem, we will have to ride back soon. We still need to visit Kiux itself. "
She was speechless for the moment seeing the raid in front of her as inside her blood was boiling..from anger. She had to remain calm as she took a breath as she suddenly felt sick from the smell of blood splattered everywhere. She raised her hand up to her mouth for the moment covering it to try and not throw up but once it seemed to calm down she removed her hand to grasp the rein of DawnAngel. She didn't like the fact that citizens had to be involved in this raid caused by Kiux and even had the decency to try and attempt an attack on Majoráeth as well. She seemed to come to a decision on who to ally with as she turned DawnAngel around with her reins as she gave a neigh raising her front legs for the moment to turn in the direction JC was pulling before she placed her legs down kicking at the ground with her hooves snorting. "I seem to have come to a decision but before we leave..." she got off her horses back before walking over to the boy he was previously talking to as she bent down gently placing her bandaged hand on his head. "As he said remain strong and never let anybody stop you from doing what you think is right, don't easily judge people, listen to reason before deciding to judge them or not...everyone has a reason to react the way they are and sometimes it may come out cruel...don't let your emotions cloud you from seeing was really in front of you...protect the innocent, take out the threat but in the right way and most important, think first before you act because it will be worth it in the long run" she said pulling out two rolled up medical herbs from her country and handed it to the boy.
"These medical herbs will help with any injuries no matter big or small so take good care of them" she finished giving a gentle smile before standing up as she got back on DawnAngel's back. "We shouldn't waste any more time, we can discuss things later once we have the time," she said tapping her horse's side as she galloped off. She raised her hand up to her mouth again covering it as tears managed to fall down her cheeks under her mask but due to the wind they blew off her face as images of her father seemed to catch her mind.
Morai followed JC, riding alongside DawnAngel with Razor, who was unsuprisingly fast enough to keep up with her, seeing as he was bred to be a top-notch war mount. He rid Razor through the forest, motioning JC to follow him with his hand, showing where to move. As the forest was just beside the mountainside, a few rocks came rolling downwards from the mountains, but Razor paid no mind to them as he was strong enough to bare them or crush them underneath his paws with his might. Soon enough, they reached Kiux, and Morai rid into the city, looking around. He pointed out the big hole in the city's walls, which was currently being patched up. " You can see where we made our entrance. Follow that hole to the beach and you'll find a whole load of bodies just laying around. Not much of our troops, but much more of the former Kiux Soldiers. We spared those who surrended, even those who attempted to invade Majoráeth. We have them locked up right now, though we'll probably allow them to live here or in Majoráeth when their time is due to be released again. " He explained, before taking out his sword and holding it in the air. " TROOPS, RALLY UP! REPORT YOUR PROGRESS IMMEDIATELY! " He yelled out, all the remaining few sentinels, around 300-500, gathering up infront of him, including the Captain who had previously spoken to the small Queen. The Captain took off his helmet and kneeled, paying respects to both his Overlord and JC Wolfa. " My lord, we have taken up an alliance with the child empress. We have taken knowledge of the previous advisor having controlled the little girl into doing unwise battle advances. The advisor fled to Necromegalopolis- " The captain said, before Morai cut him off. " You're in luck, Soldier. The Luciferi Obumbratio's assasins had taken care of the advisor and his remaining fleet. Necromegalopolis now belongs to The 25th Bam, so do not patrol the area unless requested to, or the kingdom needs our help. In our eyes, they are our allies, a friend of the kingdom. And you will treat them that way. All of you will! Do you understand! "
" SIR, YES, SIR! " The sentinels all shouted in unison, saluting and stomping on the ground with one foot.
" Good.. captain, you may proceed. " Morai responded, nodding to the Captain of the Sentinels. One of them, atleast. He didn't remember which one he was again, as usually only the Head-General would only do so.
" Oh, that is good indeed, sir! Then, this whole big island would belong to us.. the Kiux Kingdom is crumbling, and the little girl undoubtedly will fail to rule this nation even with a well-spirited advisor, so I sugg- " The captain spoke, before Morai cut him off again. " No, you know what I suggest we do? I suggest we make you the leader of Kiux. As clearly, you have shown much courage, faith and integrity to your nation and kingdom, defending in my and your fellow citizen's names and honour. That is what makes a King a King. Now come, we shall move inside and discuss this amicably. " He said, moving inside the Kiux Castle, the Captain following with. Morai looked back to JC. " Excuse us for the moment. We will be momentarily be gone. This should take but a moment. Feel free to look around, chat or get something for you and your companions. The stores and wares of Kiux are free to your taking, Miss Wolfa. " He said, as he, Razor and the Sentinel Captain disappeared inside the Kiux Castle.
Inside it, Morai got off Razor and approached the young empress on the throne. He bowed, but refused to kneel. " Greetings, young empress. I am Morai Madora, Overlord of Il'vhin Ghardé. My position is similiar to yours, so I can say from experience, that... I'm afraid that you may be unfit for the throne just yet. I mean, think about the state of your kingdom. It's military force has been eradicated, and its main capital is completely damaged. It would be too easy for enemies to take over your kingdom. They could just waltz right in here and take over your throne by force. So, you already know that we are allies. And I thought that we set someone in your place just for a little bit, to repair your kingdom. Then, you'd be at control again, with the former ruler being your advisor. Think if it as an opportunity to learn what to do as an empress. Now, the one who would be in charge until you could rule again would be this Captain here. I assume you met before? " Morai said, moving asides, the Captain of the Sentinels whom had previously talked to the young empress waved to her.
She watched Morai enter Kiux Castle as she remained on her horse. She looked around however being aware of her surroundings just in case. She got off Dawn's back before gently patting her neck. "Wait here DawnAngel, I'll be right back just show Morai the way to me once he returns, don't worry I'll have Everest with me so just remain calm" she told her seeing her nudge her face neighing softly. "Good girl, I'll be back as soon as I am able" she told her before leaving her side to the hole where the beach was as she saw the water of the sea and not to mention the bloody stench of the dead Koi soldiers. She seemed to take eye of the oceans view as a current wind blew through her clothing catching her dark brown long hair that was pulled up in a high ponytail. Her thoughts interrupted her deeply. "-Is my decision to ally with Il'vhin ghardé the right choice or maybe I should just not do it...no I am limited to my army right now...greatly by half...most of the horses are still colts and fillies, not to mention the male children still in those kid stages....what am I going to do? I'm not ready to fight war just yet in this army crisis....I already lost father...I don't want to lose mother and brother as well...-" she said as she raised her head up to look at the sky tears falling due to frustration, worry, and fear.
“Ok, I’ll leave,” Korika responded. He wasn’t going to leave the island, but he did leave the city on his boats, and with him his army. Soon enough, he arrived at the place they wanted to settle, and he settled it anyway, calling it Iremini Boreas. He stayed there for a while to help secure the colony.
Then, a message finally arrived to him telling him that they were at war again. He decided to stay at the colony though, because it wasn’t fully set up.
(@Shadow_Pup I edited my post up above.)
The young empress readily agreed to the deal, “Being Empress is hard. I can wait a little bit and learn how to do it better.”
And so, a regent was now in charge of Kiux.
Einar bit back a curse. The result meeting with King Mallick was the exact opposite of what he wanted. He had no further choice but to leave the council chambers and return to the longship. Why couldn't Mallick see that he was right? King Wren was a threat to them both! For that matter, why didn't the rest of the chieftains see the threat so obviously looming on the horizon? It seemed like he'd have to take matters into his own hands.
Upon returning to the Holm Islands, he made his way to Ragna's research lab on Helia. His fellow Chieftain was busy pouring over the blueprints for their longships, which was perfect.
"Ragna, are you busy?" he asked.
"Not particularly." She responded. "I've been redesigning the longships. They're smaller, but faster, to compensate for our lack of resources. They're durable enough to survive a few hits, but we don't have the capacity to attach any real weaponry."
"That- that's perfect, actually." Einar said. "I think we're going to have to increase production of the longships, to create a fleet powerful enough to destroy our neighbours. I'll fund it personally if necessary."
Ragna regarded him suspiciously. "Why the sudden need for a fleet?"
"It doesn't matter, just, is that possible?"
"Yes." Ragna said. "Be careful though, Einar. Whatever you're playing at might backfire."
So Einar and Ragna began preparing a raiding fleet. Still small, and limited by the number of sailors that they had to train, their fifteen new longships was still a great deal better than their previous non-existent navy.
"If our allies won't defend us..." Einar said, standing on a rocky outcrop overlooking the fleet docked in Hnefana. "We'll protect ourselves, and prove our strength to the world!"
"That's all well and good," Ragna said from behind him. "But if you're done being unnecessarily ominous, we need to deliver some ships to defend our colonies, and you've already wasted quite a bit of time with climbing onto this cold, rainy mountain just to say a few words and look at our ships."
"Right." Einar said sheepishly. "Let's do that, then."
