Open The Jet Black Tournament (Survival RP Discussion)

(RP Thread found here!)

You are amongst an elite group of Trainers formally invited to the recently developed Jettison Hotel and Conference Center, located on a remote, tropical island. A full week of battles will take place, testing your mettle against some of the finest trainers in the world, all whilst living the life on an all expenses paid vacation. Not to mention the luxurious prizes- The top prizes include keystones and mega stones, sets of otherwise expensive training goods, even rare Pokémon, everything an up and coming trainer may need to succeed in their continued career.

Though perhaps you’ve noticed how suspicious this all sounds.

You are said to be among the elite, yet there are no truly exemplary trainers. You are all impressive trainers, yes, but you are not amongst champions and renowned heroes. The prizes seem to attract trainers who may not be able to afford such things. And for what end? They say it's an advertisement, yet the TV crews seem to be nothing more than a skeleton crew, hardly setting up for such a big tournament. Why are the rules so strange? One Pokémon alone won’t carry an entire tournament for a week, and you handed the rest to “top of the line caretakers”, or at the least deposited them in the Hotel’s PC. But who are you to question it? A free vacation in the tropics, with amazing prizes...It’s too good to decline.

Too good.

Indeed, something sinister brews beneath the surface. The benefactors of this tournament are watching with great interest as the trainers arrive in droves. Trainers who are carefully noted by security, who also ensure that the trainers do not step too far into the wild areas still under development. But to what end?

In truth, they finally unraveled the secrets of the Berserk Gene...and learned how to spread it. Pokémon that become larger, powerful, vicious...Uncontrollable. This Beast Gene has already been spread to the Pokémon deeper within the jungle that lies after the highly guarded resort, the one place on the island not filled with vicious creatures ready to take a chunk out of one another.

And wouldn’t you know it- You trainers have a first hand look at these monstrous Pokémon. In fact, you have a whole week to survive the vicious Pokémon- Whoever survives wins. Who cares if a couple half-bit trainers go missing for a week? The public won’t be any the wiser as they prepare to release their first public demonstrations of the gene.

Of course, you likely know that the game was rigged from the start. Could you and your fellow trainers figure out a way to overwhelm the shady organizers and their nefarious plot? Or are you going to play their game to the death?

-----

Well with that out of the way, let’s talk business!

The Jet Black Tournament is as I described. Upon an island known as Black Island, you’ve been cordially invited to the Jettison Hotel and Conference center for their first big event, the Jet Black Tournament. Unfettered by the somewhat ominous name, and almost certainly encouraged by the excellent prizes, you’ve arrived on the island. Depositing your team- if you still have them -Either with the professional care center, or in the provided PC Box, and choosing one of your team exclusively to register.

Of course, after getting settled in, the truth is revealed that this was all a set up. The true Jet Black Tournament is held far away from any battlefield, within the confines of the hellish and expansive jungle beyond the resort. With nothing but your partner Pokémon at your side, you’re expected to survive a week in a jungle teeming with violent, powerful Pokémon.

The point of the roleplay is to push characters to their absolute limit. Forced to truly get down to the grit and survive a hellish week, or figure out some way off the island. But at their limits, we can break down what makes them tick, where they were going in life before this massive, scarring wrench was thrown in it.

Of course, there are rules that I want to lay down, outside the stated Pokécharms rules.

  1. I do want some kind of effort put into posts. This means a paragraph or two in a post, decent grammar. I’m sure this doesn’t need to be said, but sometimes it’s best to clarify.
  2. Not to place a limit on your characters, but no outright champions or celebrities. I'm willing to allow disgraced ex-champions or other strong trainers- Just so long as there's no real public eye on them.
  3. Do approach Pokémon battles somewhat realistically. Obviously a first stage Pokémon like Chespin wouldn't be a good matchup against an Aggron or other giant Pokémon. However, there could be some exceptions (A trainer who knows how to use a tiny Pokémon to their advantage against a big foe, for example)
  4. If everyone could just be nice to each other that’d be pretty cool. Not really a rule, but we can all be nice to one another, right?

Anyways, here’s a standard profile sheet for you all to fill out.

Name:
Gender:
Age:
Appearance:
Personality:
(Optional)
Brief History/Invite Reason: (Remember, they can’t be current champions, gym-leaders, elite 4, etc., but they need to have entered public consciousness at some point or another)
Pokémon of Choice: (Species, Nickname, Ability, Up to six moves of choice)
Other Details:

I didn’t include a whole lot in the list, since it’s pretty clear cut. We’ll have some time to portray personalities before we get into the thick of it, so I’ve left it optional for now. I’ve also filled out a profile for an example, though I will also be controlling some plot relevant/filler characters. You’re welcome to make a few of your own minor characters, but it’s totally optional.

So yeah, if you have any questions, any suggestions, or anything else, feel free to ask, and I hope you are all ready to take this adventure on!

Player Characters
@BurbleBurble
Name: Arte Parris
Gender: Male
Age: 19
Appearance: Arte stands at about six foot, with a practical mane of blond hair. His skin is mildly tanned, and he has green eyes. His standard attire includes a black jacket, white undershirt, and a pair of jeans. He has a belt with his Pokéballs, and a messenger bag is usually slung over his shoulder.
Personality: Arte is a fairly strange boy. Most of the time, he seems blissfully unaware of the world around him, aloof and inattentive. When he does pay attention, he always seems to struggle to formulate the proper speech, sometimes making him rush out his words in confusing clusters. In battle, he’s far better at figuring things out, but he’s still not a genius or anything. Just surprisingly competent.
Brief History/Invite Reason: Hailing from Virbank, Arte somehow traversed the region and claimed all eight gym badges. This is impressive, as Arte is a little...funky. But when he gets into the gritty of battle, something sparks in him. This doesn’t always work, considering he only got Top 8 in the Unova League Tournament, but this remains an impressive feat nonetheless, enough to score him an invite to this “tournament”.
Pokémon of Choice: Cinccino, “Sugar”, Skill Link, Moveset: Rock Blast, Tail Slap, Fling, Iron Tail, Sing
Other Details: He has a whole team, including his Carracosta, “Seasalt”, his Gallade, “Pestle”, and his Torkoal, “Pepper”. These fellow Pokémon will be handed off to the responsible crew of caretakers in time...
@Cupcakeus
Name: Fiona Grover

Gender:
Female

Age:
18

Appearance:
Standing at 5 feet, Fiona has a fair complexion, she has fiery red eyes and Jet black short hair. Fiona is quite fashionable but like every other person she has a favorite, an outfit that consists of a black t-shirt paired with a black skirt, she also includes a red jacket and glossy black high-heel boots with aviator sunglasses, simple yet elegant, and you can already tell she really likes red and black.

Personality:
Fiona is a really harsh person, often not trusting anyone and always judging them, whenever she sees someone she'll jump to the worst case scenario, which leads to her not having much friends, but this loneliness only ever angered her, to the point where she will never allow distraction to claim her victory.

Brief History/Invite Reason:
Fortree City, the place Fiona grew up, but for some reason she hated it there, she hated everyone with a dying passion, Fiona hated how everyone lived in trees and how she also needed to do it. This anger fueled by her dream of becoming a champion lead her to an adventure, and somehow she claimed all eight gym badges despite being a hot-head. Her dream was cut short though when she found out that she lost, she was placed in Top 5 in the Hoenn league, this wasn't an achievement for Fiona, it was a disappointment, but people still recognized her as a fighter and was given an invite to this "tournament".

Pokémon of Choice:
Altaria, "Skye", Natural Cure, Moveset: Dragon Dance, Earthquake, Sky Attack, Fly

Other Details:
The only thing Fiona truly loves is her team, her Tropius "Timber", Her Lanturn "Spade", and her Torkoal "Omega", These Pokemon will also be handed off to the "responsible" crew of caretakers.
@comic
Name: Celine Florence
Gender: Female
Age: 22
Appearance: image listed below (i decided to make a visual representation because i'm not in the mood to describe it all out and plus she looks cool so i want you to see how cool)
Personality: Externally she has an extremely bubbly, outgoing personality. She goes out of her way to get to know anybody she meets and makes it her life mission to make them adore her- which is why she has no friends. Her excessive clinginess and pursuit of recognition has pushed them all away, and while she hides it, she feels incredibly selfish and rude, but her desire for attention often outweighs this. She's got a good sense of fashion and loves to turn heads. All she needs to learn is that the world doesn't revolve around her, no matter how much she asks it to.
Brief History/Invite Reason: Celine, when she was fourteen, became an overnight sensation. Her fashions trends and quickly rising success in Pokémon Contests (almost always winning first) brought her into celebrity status in no time flat. This attention and fame is something she relished in lavishly, before the world eventually moved onto the next big thing, and just as quickly as she'd gained fame, she faded into obscurity, recognized occasionally by passersby on the street, though even that has begun dying out now, a little over seven years past her rise to popularity. She still attempts to live the way she did, and still tries to act like she's the next big thing, but deep down, she knows she's irrelevant, and that fact makes her extremely insecure. Little known was her passion for Pokémon battles, which she participated in before and after her rise to fame, though she wasn't nearly as skilled at it like she is with fashion.
Pokémon of Choice: (Shiny) Milotic ♀, "Lavender", Marvel Scale, Expert Belt, Moveset: Water Pulse, Disarming Voice, Aqua Ring, Attract, Rain Dance, Hydro Pump
Other Details: For as long as she can remember, Milotic was always her only Pokémon. When she was seven, her father showed her how to catch a Pokémon, and caught her a Feebas. Of course, she'd called it ugly, but kept it anyway without the knowledge of what it would become. It was when she was thirteen that the Feebas evolved into Milotic, and Celine's interest shifted from battling to beauty contests, the attire she gave Milotic often boosting her chances in a competition. She personally considers Lavender, the Milotic, to be her only friend.
@silverwind2020
Name: Cole
Gender: Male
Age: 14
Appearance: Maroon Hoodie and black slim pants. Brown boots and a black bag, complete with a Satchel that now only holds a Cherish Ball.
Personality: Energetic and helpful, but pretty serious when he needs to be.
Reason of Invite: A pretty good trainer, able to use his surroundings to his advantage in battles.
Pokemon of Choice: Cinderace, Male, Libero, Moveset: Pyro Ball, High Jump Kick, Zen Headbutt, Quick Attack, Electro Ball, Bounce
Other: More members of his team (Golisopod, Goodra, etc.) were sent to the PC Provided.
@SylvitheSylveon
Name: Sylvi
Gender: female
Age: 14
Appearance: Pink hair, Jet Blue eyes, and always has a poker face, wears a weird necklace
Personality: Quiet and doesn't usually talk to people
Brief History/Invite Reason: Currently ranking #2 in the Kalos league
Pokémon of Choice: Female Sylveon, Pixilate, Moves: Hyper Voice, Mystical Fire, Shadow Ball, Psyshock (all of these moves are legal for a Sylveon in Gen 8 ), Item: Choice Specs
Other Details: Not much is known about her, all that she's a mysterious trainer that came out of nowhere and beat the Kalos Elite 4
@Gamingfan
Name: Bron Capman
Gender: Male
Age: 24
Appearance: Bron is 5'9, tan, and has both black eyes and hair, which looks like it hasn't been brushed in days. He wears a blue hoodie over a simple black T-Shirt, blue jeans, and black sneakers. Aside from that he wears a pokeball belt, and not much else. He pretty much always looks dirty. Aside from his somewhat surprising bulk and few scars from "journey incidents", he's pretty unassuming.
Personality: Outside of battles, Bron is a pretty "chill" and friendly person, preferring to go with the flow of things. In battle, he shows much more excitement, becoming nearly unshakable even in the most dire situations.
Brief History/Invite Reason: As most children do, Bron left the comforts of his home to make his pets fight wild animals at 11 years old. He managed to claim the eight badges Sinnoh, partook in the tournament, and then went through Unova, ironically guided by his battle hardened, older-than-you'd think pokemon.
Bron has actually taken part in numerous tournaments, having placed 11th in the Sinnoh League and 15th in the Unova League. He's partaken in multiple smaller tournaments not related to the League and is semi well-known for ranking consistently high, but never quite reaching that top 10 status.

Pokémon of Choice:

Auro the Lucario
Ability: Justified
Item: Expert Belt
Moveset: Aura Sphere
Meteor Mash
Bone Rush
Copycat
ExtremeSpeed
Life's Dew
Personality because why not:
Due his past, Auro, unlike his trainer, takes everything seriously, being rather stoic and aloof. Battles are the only thing that spark true emotion from him.
He also loves honey. Don't mention it. Ever.
(I'm aware of the simple personalities. It's to develop them in RP)

Other Details: Aside from Auro, his pokemon consists of Auto the Golurk, Sheath the Samurwott, Swipe the Weavile, Nature the Leavanny, and Vigit the Porygon-Z. These pokemon will be stolen given to the caretaker group
@Snowflake_14
Name: Skyla Soto (or Sky for short :p)
Gender: Female
Age: 16
Appearance: Sky stands at 5'4, has curly dark-brown hair (often confused with black which gets really really annoying). She often dawns on a bright pink and light blue sweatshirt with a bright fluffy pink cloud design. She also wears a floral bracelet that she's refused to take off.
Personality: Sky is a very loud and outgoing person. She strongly believes in everything that goes with her morals of being the best you can be, and will sometimes try to force this mindset onto others. She's always running into battles, typically unaware of the matchup ahead. Despite this personality of her showing 99% of the time, there are very few moments where Sky does take the time to come up with strategies. Reckless sure, but also very clever in battle, being able to use her surroundings and come up with an onslaught of ideas mid-fight to use to win.
Brief History/Invite Reason: Skyla is a local all-star for her very small town of Widrow in the far off skirts of Unova. As of joining the jet black tournament, she owns 4 of the 8 Unova badges, and once her mom showed her the letter in the mail of this tournament, Sky was nothing but thrilled!
Pokémon of Choice: Mia: Mincinno, Skill Link, Dig, Tail Slap, Bullet Seed, Attract, Swift, Last Resort
Other Details: Mia was actually not Sky's pick for Pokemon. She also owns a Dragonair by name of Diamond, but in not paying attention, Sky deposited Diamond with the caretaker group rather than Mia. Mia has been used to battle for, and isn't exactly weak, but Diamond was Sky's best and strongest Pokemon, one given to her by her mother to protect her from any danger.
@Merciless Medic
Name: Miles Harding
Gender: Male
Age: 25 years
Appearance: He is pale and stands at 5'11" (180.3 cm) and weighing at 165 lbs (74.8 kg) due to his bulky musculature from his eventful journies. He has lean muscle, and can lift 100 lbs (45.3 kg) very easily. He has an angular hard face, and his bass-filled voice carries volumes. His eyes are a bright blue and he has little freckles dusting his cheeks and nose bridge. His hair was shaved but it had since grown into a very velvety black texture on his head. He is very clean, and does his best to keep looking like his best, but understands that this was quite impossible when going on a difficult journey. He usually wears very clean clothes that seem very informally classy. He wears dark blue jeans, black and white sneakers, a light blue dress shirt, and a button up black jacket. But this is when he's traveling and knows he won't be having too much of an issue. When he's traveling somewhere and going on a more rough journey, he has a regular green long-sleeved shirt, blue jeans, brown hiking boots, and a fleece-lined jacket. He also has a brown shoulder bag with his items, and he has a green trainer belt. On his right wrist is an old red XTransceiver that he had since he started his journey at the age of 10. The shoulder bag holds a recording device, 10 Super Potions, 5 Hyper Potions, 2 Max Potions, 5 Antidote, 5 Parlyz Heal, 3 Ice Heal, 5 Burn Heal, 4 Awakening, 2 Escape Rope, a Flashlight with extra batteries, and a smartphone that held data on his training. (not sure if he's able to use these items on his journey, but yea).
Personality: He has a very leader-like attitude; however, he gets flustered very easily when put in a situation he isn't familiar with. Due to being in many dangerous situations, he doesn't get flustered often, but it can happen. He's a very emotional individual, but he tries his best to only show this when it is necessary (ie. needing to be empathetic or sympathetic for consoling reasons). In his face, it is easy to spot his turbulent emotions, but he keeps his composure quite well. He has a lot of responsibility (including taking care of his Pokemon - maintaining their health, mentally, emotionally, and physically - along with himself, and being part of a wealthy family, he had to have an appearance and reputation that made him look good). He understands this and tries to be as respectable and responsible as possible, but gets angry when others don't take their responsibilities as seriously. He is very intelligent on the subject of Pokemon though, allowing him to even identify calls and sounds as certain Pokemon or guess their shape by hearing their footfalls. He also knows how to calm someone or a Pokemon in the middle of a horrifying situation, as his journies had hardened him into what others would view him as a soldier with leader-like qualities. He works hard to make sure those around him are safe, usually putting himself in danger, but it's a calculated risk. He won't outright put himself in danger that could kill him unless there's a way for him to get out of it alive. However, he is just as afraid as anybody else, just a little more composed than the average person.
Brief History/Invite Reason: Being born in Unova to a wealthy family who lived in Opelucid City, Miles had many luxuries growing up, leading him to have a bit of a spoiled personality when he grew old enough to go on a journey, but he was gifted a rather rare Snivy instead of going on a journey. Miles had to be taught how to take care of Pokemon and how to battle appropriately, and he also had to learn how to work with a rather high maintenance Pokemon (that being his Snivy). He finally was able to start his first journey in Kanto when his father saw him fit to journey at the age of 13. He had smaller adventures around Opelucid City, but this was completely different, as he were thrust far away from his home and without support from his family nearby. Due to his family paying Professor Oak a lot of money for a good starter, Miles obtained a Charmander. As he traveled through Kanto, he captured lots of different Pokemon, putting them in the PC until they were needed and to learn about them more. When he went into Mt. Moon, the entrance had collapsed and he had to work his way around. Onix had taken the mountain as their home for breeding grounds, and their rampant digging caused portions of the floors to collapse. Miles thought he was going to have a swell, peaceful time traveling Kanto and this was his first dose of trouble.

Maybe he should have stopped adventuring after this had happened. He certainly should have, given that more trouble just came his way.

But he thought that maybe this was a fluke. After all, he clearly read the sign in front of Mt. Moon, stating how dangerous it was to enter due to a rise of frequency in Onix. Of course, he ignored it and got himself into a mess. He spend long waking nights avoiding nightmares about being buried alive, his worst fear. But Miles had to continue, to prove to himself that he was strong and that he can lead his Pokemon and himself to victory. Of course, while a good portion of his Kanto journey was okay, he found that, after he had obtained four badges and made his way to Fuchsia City, he got lost and found himself in Lavender Town. He was told to pay his respects to the tower, so he did so, entering and catching a couple Pokemon for his collection.

Of course, this was a big mistake. After a battle with a rather annoying Gastly, the floor he was one was suddenly bathed in darkness. No light from his flashlight was able to pierce through this magical darkness and he began hearing distortions. He didn't know what they were until he realized it was his Pokemon, screaming and crying out in pain. He felt a sudden pain of realization that he was going to lose his Pokemon. He rushed to the noise, but no matter how fast he ran, he couldn't get to them fast enough, as it sounded like they were moving away. In fact, it was odd that he didn't hit a gravestone or a wall.

But when the darkness faded, he found himself laying on the floor, his Pokemon huddled around him and trying to wake him up from his sweating fever dream. It was hell for the newly 14-year-old trainer and he vowed to make sure he didn't lose any of his Pokemon.

The rest of his journey in Kanto was rather uneventful and he signed up for the Kanto League Tournament. He rose the ranks in the tournament, until he was in the top 16. However, the now 15-year-old (as he missed the tournament last year and had to wait for another year) felt like there was something not right with his opponent. In fact, he saw the man getting a talking-to with a referee. Seeing how strict the league was, it didn't occur to him why, he just thought that maybe he used a cheap trick the league had a rule against and this was a verbal warning before he was disqualified.

He should have listened to his gut.

Miles found himself fighting the man to ensure his place in the Top 8, but his Pokemon were more brutal than any he had ever met before. They dispatched his Pokemon with such efficiency and deadliness that it was nerve-wracking to watch, but each time his Pokemon were knocked out, he breathed a sigh of relief that they weren't dead. Of course, Miles' last Pokemon, a Gyarados, wasn't so lucky. The opponent swapped out his Pokemon for a Raichu and Miles shivered as he realized how dangerous this was for him. He watched as the Raichu charged forward with a Volt Tackle, but Gyarados was in the throes of an Earthquake, unable to writhe out of the way. His Gyarados' chest was hit, and the Raichu shocked him with the combined force of a Thunder and a Volt Tackle that it completely fried his Pokemon.

It was the first death in recent Pokemon League history. Miles couldn't believe that he lost a close Pokemon he had bought from that man near the entrance to Mt. Moon. His Gyarados' heart was unable to take the electrical torment that the Raichu had deliberately forced into his chest, completely stopping his heart. The man was disqualified and Miles rushed his Gyarados to the nurse. His Pokemon's condition was critical. Even if the Gyarados had survived, the amount of electrical energy he had to endure would have damaged his brain, along with being officially dead for a few minutes.

Miles waited for what seemed like an eternity, only for the news to break him. He lost his Pokemon. A group of news people asked him what it was like to lose a Pokemon, but he didn't need this. After losing the paparazzi, he buried his Pokemon at the Lavender Tower and disappeared from Kanto, moving back to Unova to try again.

He spent a few years in mourning, trying to figure out what to do with his life. Once he turned 21, he tried again, vowing to never lose his Pokemon again. Since the bitter loss at the Kanto League and how he quit, he shuddered to think about going to Kanto again. But, when he did so, he found that, while his Gyarados' death was on the first-page news during that time, nobody seemed to recognize him. Maybe it was because of how much he grew and how much time had passed, but it was a tragedy people didn't want to remember. And he couldn't blame them for that. The television series that had shown it live had to cut it out to avoid showing the children that death was possible, as it would be bad for their media and economy.

It was like the incident was forgotten, and Miles didn't mind walking around where people didn't recognize him for the incident. He began training seriously in Kanto and Johto, moving between the two regions to collect badges and to have rematches with the Gym Leaders he had fought before. Once he had collected all sixteen badges after four years, being at the age of 25 and going through more horrifying situations in both regions during this time, he was about to sign up for the Kanto League when he got noticed by someone. They apparently had been looking for him and found it difficult to find him recently, as Miles didn't want people to follow him or find him.

He was given a letter to join a tournament on a tropical island. A newly built conference building and hotel. He read the rewards and the all expense paid vacation. But why did they choose him? Immediately, the hairs on his neck prickled upwards and he couldn't figure out why. This tournament didn't sound right. They talked about giving up their Pokemon and only using one, giving away the extra Pokemon to a PC or a special care facility. But the way they honeyed those words just didn't sit right with him. He got his dad on the phone and told him about the invite.

His dad was amazed at how perfect this tournament was, but knew of Miles' past. He told his son to be careful, as this tournament sounded too good to be true. But if it was true, to take the chance anyway. Miles agreed and sent his Pokemon to live with his parents while only taking his Serperior. He didn't trust this 'care facility' as far as he can throw it, especially with past experiences dealing with 'trusted' facilities to take care of Pokemon. He almost lost his team due to one of their well-planned heists.

So he traveled to the tropical island by boat, taking only his one Pokemon.
Pokémon of Choice:
Male Serperior [TYPE]Grass[/TYPE] - "Louis" - Contrary (swaps buffing and debuffing effects)
  1. Leaf Storm - [TYPE]Grass[/TYPE] - Special - Louis' tail sprouts a flurry of leaves that he then throws at the opponent. Once the attack hits, the sheer concentration and power should lower his elementally-ranged power but, with Contrary, it does the opposite.
  2. Hidden Power Rock - [TYPE]Rock[/TYPE] - Special - Louis flashes a stony brown color and creates a spherical brown energy at his mouth before firing it at the opponent, turning into a glowing rock as it does so. This is due to his reaction speed, and both defenses being almost perfect, but not completely like the rest of his attacking abilities and stamina.
  3. Glare - [TYPE]Normal[/TYPE] - Status - Louis' eyes glow a crimson red as they stare through the Pokemon's body, triggering irrational fear in the attack and causing their body to freeze up and lock before their joints become effected with a paralytic effect. Louis uses this religiously to force submission from other Pokemon. The effects of this doesn't affect Electric-Types, but affects Ghost-Types. However, it could still scare Electric-Types.
  4. Synthesis - [TYPE]Grass[/TYPE] - Status - Louis' body glows a bright green as he absorbs the sunlight to heal his injuries. He heals a decent amount in clear weather, more in harsh sunlight, and less during hail, rain, or sandstorm.
  5. Dragon Pulse - [TYPE]Dragon[/TYPE] - Special - Louis' body glows a royal blue as he fires off a pulsating wave circular wave of draconic energy. It doesn't go away until it hits something, and it follows a straight line, able to hit Pokemon who are further away in the battlefield. It also has a quick velocity.
  6. Mirror Coat - [TYPE]Psychic[/TYPE] - Special - Louis' body glowed a light blue with shimmering white glares from the light bouncing off. Once an elementally/ranged attack hits him, his shield bounces inward, hurting Louis before taking the attack and bouncing it back with double the power and slightly more speed.
Other Details: Miles sent his Pokemon back to live with his parents due to a deep-seeded fear of losing them, something that this new tournament seemed to reawaken in him with this 'facility' they talked about. While he is largely suspicious, he is willing to put it all away until he gets into the 'game'.

@OmnipotentOnion
Name: Kyran Kang

Gender
: Male

Age
: 21

Appearance

View attachment 871298

Other Stats:
Height - 5'10
Physique - Mesomorph: Well-built, decent amount of muscle mass
Casual outfit of choice - Solid black polo, often loosened at the uppermost button ~ Khaki shorts (or dark navy jeans, depending on the climate) ~ White sneakers
Contest/Battle outfit of choice - Tailored black vest ~ Crimson red necktie ~ White dress shirt ~ Black slacks ~ Polished black loafers
Accessories - Blue sunglasses with gold frames ~ Silver chain necklace ~ Black and silver wristwatch ~ Black crossbody backpack

Personality
Kyran is cool and outgoing, being able to befriend people easily not by an energetic personality but an approachable demeanor. Though he feels most at peace meditating and relaxing by himself, he's never opposed to sharing a drink or meal with a small group of friends. However, his generally friendly disposition seems to immediately dissipate, replaced with both intense resolve and refined, elegant confidence on the field of battle. Able to tune out all distractions when focusing on the matter at hand, Kyran gives himself fully to achieving victory in any contest, often making him annoyingly resilient even when backed into a corner. His rapport built with his partner Pokemon is fortified intensely by a palpable amount of trust and loyalty that is put on clear display during their battles together.

Brief History/Invite Reason

5 some-odd years after the bright and incredibly successful debut of Pokemon Contest prodigy Celine Flores, the Hoenn and Sinnoh region Contests were once again astonished by the entry of another powerhouse in both the field of elegance and refined but intense strength. Kyran Kang, an aspiring trainer since the age of 12, moved from Littleroot Town to Rustboro City to live with his grandparents, where he studied under Roxanne at the Pokemon Trainers' School, first kindled his love for Pokemon Contests, and inherited his first Pokemon by means of a rare egg. Both Kyran's resolute commitment to training and loyalty to Sage--his Treecko, who had hatched from the egg two years into his stay at Rustboro--made him a powerful phenom among other Trainers' School students, as well as a Coordinator who clearly had potential but lacked finesse.

At the age of 18, the culmination of all his work and training with Sage thus far was fully made known across the Hoenn Region, as the people found their 'next big thing' in Kyran, a trainer who had quickly moved up the ranks of trainers by earning all 8 badges, performing astoundingly well at all Contests he attended, and even placing in the Top 4 at the Hoenn League Tournament. Kyran planned to fly to the Sinnoh region next, several months after his accomplishment at the Hoenn League, and he would have continued the next page of his travels, intensifying his pursuits to become a stronger Trainer and Coordinator, if it hadn't been for the unexpected passing of his grandfather. The tragic loss kept Kyran at Rustboro, where he cared for his grandmother and walked away from battling and participating at Contests.

The training and coordinating world moved on after Kyran's powerful showing almost as quickly as it had forgotten Celine's prominent presence, but he paid no heed as he abruptly put his ambitions on hold to settle down and rearrange his priorities. His grandmother passed a year after her husband, and after another couple months of relaxing, Kyran finally continued his original aspirations in the Sinnoh League, quickly working his way through the Gyms and Contests as his reputation from Hoenn slowly began to catch up to him in the new continent. He even volunteered at Jubilife City's own Pokemon Trainers' School, studied under various professors, and trained with strong trainers throughout his travels in the Sinnoh region. With his second rise to fame nearly at its peak, Kyran planned to reestablish his presence as a strong trainer to be known throughout the entire world......

.....what was that? A tournament for elite trainers?

Pokémon of Choice

Sceptile (M) - Sage
Moves
- Solar Beam
- Energy Ball
- Dragon Pulse
- Iron Tail
- Leaf Blade
- Acrobatics

Other Details
: Kyran carries a notebook and pen in his backpack at all times, with which he thoroughly absorbs any information he can glean during his travels; he takes note of battle or contest strategies, the tactics of opponents who had bested him, and all other things he believes will give him something new to learn and utilize as an edge in performance.
@Funny Sans Rat
Name: Ryan Smith
Gender: Male
Age: 24
Appearance: He's 6'4" tall, and practically pure muscle, with black hair, making for a very imposing sight,
Personality: (At first he seems to be a cold and uncaring man, however this is purely him making the best out of the situation that got him invited, and ruined his life, once you get to know him he's much more of a goofball, however not a complete pushover, far from it, in fact.
Brief History/Invite Reason: He's not here due to saving anybody, in fact, he's here due to his infamy, he had attempted to stop a man from harassing a woman, however little did he know, the man was famous, and proceeded to ruin his life by framing him, stating that he had assaulted him after trying to stop Ryan from assaulting the woman, and surprisingly, nobody had questioned him.
Species: Garchomp
Nickname: Ace
Ability: Rough Skin
Moves: Stealth Rock, Flamethrower, Dragon Breath, Earthquake
Other Details: He treats ace as an equal, obviously he commands him in battle, but Ace can and will use moves on his own, however this is rare, he has also had ace since childhood, so they have a special bond, a very special one.
@BegalBitez
Name: Sasha Yamoto
Gender: Male
Age: 19
Appearance: Has a black hoodie he is almost always with, an Ampharos T-shirt and dark gray sweat pants. Has camo socks and tan boots. Hair is dirty blonde with a slight spike all around.

Brief History/Invite Reason: Sasha started traveling the Unova region since he was 14. He beat all 8 gyms but failed at beating the Elite four, so he moved on traveling to both the Hoenn and Sinnoh regions and beating all the gyms, he came close to beating Steven Stone, but lost a power match between Sasha's Greninja and Steven's Metagross. He got his letter after being tracked down while he was in Johto inviting him to finally prove he has the strength of a champion at this tournament.

Pokémon of Choice:
Species:
Lucario
Gender: Male
Ability: Steadfast
Hidden Power: Dark
Personality: Fiery passion for fighting and those it loves
Moves: Ice Punch, Meteor Mash, Counter, Brick Break ,Thunder Punch, Bone Rush
Item: Black Belt around its waist, dyed blue
@Mystic Zander
Name: Zander Gray
Gender: Male
Age: 16
Appearance: ~See @Mystic Zander pfp~
Personality: Zander has always been a rather hyperactive young man. As a child, he was quite troublesome; and this carried over into his teenage-years.
He has a habit of getting in trouble on account of preferring to adventure ‘against the grain’. Taking restricted paths, sneaking into abandoned sights, and having a general distaste for authority- Zander has found himself caught in a sticky situation more often than most.
Thankfully, the young trainer has his wits about him. He’s clever, and capable of analyzing situations if it’s a necessity.
In short, he’s a generally pretty nice guy, but if you travel with him...you may just find yourself running away from an angry mob who probably have the right to be chasing you.
Brief History/Invite Reason: In truth, Zander hadn’t really done anything all that special. Sure, he managed to get top fifteen in his first Pokémon league, but that was two years ago, and definitely not what got him the invitation.
No- Zander received his invite because of his family.
His father, who he held a certain amount of disdain for, was an incredibly skilled Pokémon Ranger who had credited with saving the lives of numerous people and endangered Pokémon.
His mother, who he was far closer with than his father, was quite the skilled Pokémon Breeder- raising up a fine number of very powerful baby Pokémon.
His older brother, who he was very close with, was a Pokémon Tutor in training. He specialized in assisting trainers with teaching their Pokémon especially difficult techniques.
Yes...the Gray family had begun making a name for themselves in the Unova Region. So naturally, when the invitations were sent out, all three of Zander’s relatives had received a letter.
When his Mother, Father, and Brother all denied the invitation, though? That’s when Zander received his letter...
Pokémon of Choice: Darmanitan
Nickname- Geshi
Ability- Zen Mode
Moves- Fire Punch, Psychic, Work Up, Earthquake, Heatwave, Solar Beam
Other Details: Geshi was the largest member of his pack as a wild Darumaka (hence why Zander caught him) and retained that size upon evolving. Unlike normal Darmanitan, with an average height of 4’3” and average weight of approximately 204lbs; Geshi stands right out 4’7” and weight nearly 230lbs.

This sounds really good. I'll have to think of a character as most are either not famous enough or too famous for things other than being in a League Tournament, but I'll put them up shortly once I figure it out. XD
Yeah, it's a little tough line to skirt, but I'm sure you'll figure it out! Can't wait to see what you come up with

Awesome, you're in! I probably should've linked to it here, but I already made the first post so people could get right into the calm before the storm, y'know? ;)
Would a Frontier brain work?
Frontier Brains are weird in the canon of Pokemon? And the Battle Frontier itself may just not exist at this time (Like it still being built in Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire). Even the anime treated them like an variation of Gym leaders, so I'm not really sure how to interpret them other than being good trainers. Maybe like, tournament moguls or something? In the end of the day, the question is- If a character went to fight in a tournament, is are they popular enough for a television crew or paparazzi to follow them? If that answer is yes, than no, the Frontier Brain won't work, because they deliberately chose skilled but unpopular trainers.
Woah, nice thing. I have a question, though. Are we supposed to have fully evolved teams for this?
The most important Pokemon is the one that'll be by your side- Thus why Arte's team only details a few extras because I suck at teambuilding for characters lmaooo they aren't really plot important. This partner can be whomever you want it to be, some trainers could have gimmicks or ideas revolving around unevolved Pokemon and use like, an Eevee or Pikachu. Ultimately, team building is up to you. The only exclusions I request is Legendary/Mythical Pokemon, but I doubt anyone's actually gotten one of those past Stellar anyways lol

tell me if this works;

Name: Celine Florence
Gender: Female
Age: 22
Appearance: image listed below. Celine has chocolate-colored skin with bright blue eyes that normally sit behind a pair of heart-shaped shades. Her fashion sense is normally very exotic, typically with clothing made of silk, and she's never without the blue ascot around her neck. She has long, frizzy black hair, a hairband over the top with a bright white bow sitting pretty atop that, and finally, a pair of thick cyan-colored earrings. It goes without saying that she's never in public without some eyeliner, lipstick, and blush.
Pokémon of Choice: (Shiny) Milotic , "Lavender", Marvel Scale, Expert Belt, Moveset: Water Pulse, Disarming Voice, Aqua Ring, Attract, Rain Dance, Hydro Pump

Mmm, sorry to do this to you, but could you elaborate more on his career as a trainer besides just being good? Being good is one thing, but if the public doesn't see you at some point or another, you probably won't be here. Did he participate in any leagues? Helped round up some baddies? Did well in tournaments unattached to the league? I just like the little details, I'm afraid :p

I do wonder that if not much is known about her, how the heck she got an invite :p but sure, accepted.

These poor kids ain't in for an easy ride, I'll say that much :p

Aloha! Haven't done one of these in a hot minute and I'd love to give it another go, so let's do this! The concept is absolutely fabulous, so I'm super excited to see how this plays out!!

ADMIN EDIT: Abuse of colour tags is not allowed under our rules. Assorted colour tags removed.

Kindly noted, sorry about that

Both accepted, and both seem like interesting characters! Happy to have you both on board.

I should probably get working on a second post...

Made a hardened character because we need one. XD But yea, sorry for the long "brief" history, but I had to explain a little bit more than what the term "brief" would allow. Also, Trigger Warning for a Pokemon's death.

Name
: Miles Harding

Made a hardened character because we need one. XD But yea, sorry for the long "brief" history, but I had to explain a little bit more than what the term "brief" would allow. Also, Trigger Warning for a Pokemon's death.

Name
: Miles Harding

Is the Gengar named "No Nickname"? :p

Regardless, accepted!

I don't like how I do descriptions all too much :p

Basically the plaza is a decently large circle, with paths to the main buildings, dock, and beach. In the center is a water fountain I should've brought up, but it is there. I can draw a picture soon.

Say hi to Teresa, by the by! She's a journalist looking for her next big story. Well, uh...she's certainly getting one :p I might make a profile for her, but maybe minor characters don't really need it.

This took way too long holy

Name: Kyran Kang

Gender
: Male

Age
: 21

Appearance

download20210104103817.png

Seems pretty good to me! Now granted it is very close to how popular I'm willing to let trainers be, but considering Sylvi is already established to have been hounded by journalists already off the heels of a close league battle I can let it slide. So, accepted!:up:8)

Oh yea, sorry about my character's actions towards Fiona. He's in a rough patch. XD Hope that reply of mine didn't anger or upset anyone too bad
yeah hoping no one was offended about Sylvi's bad comments about Fiona either (I will delete if anyone was offended)
Everyone's getting offended for Arte's sake meanwhile he's super unaware of anything :p But I generally agree that it fits both characters in terms of reaction, so I don't think either of you need to delete it or anything. Then again I'm not Cupcakeus so it's up to her whether or not it should be toned down for here on out.

Also, with the way things are shaping up in my head, I think I'm heading towards about 6~ side characters that are of decent importance. Arte and Teresa are the least important, but I am curious if people want to make characters to help fill those plot roles. I don't want to feel too controlling with characters each having a role in each eventual group, though I do already have a plan for all these characters. The way it's supposed to work is that once we get into the gritty of it, they can be moderately controlled by anyone relevant to them.

Generally I don't want to overwhelm you all (Especially since I'm three posts in and already have three characters in) so if you all feel that's a little overbearing I'm all good with splitting things up from here on out.

Will the other side characters be other trainers/competitors or just all unimportant characters?
Some would have to be competitors to get in.
To the contrary, Arte is the only character I have that is a competitor. The side characters, meanwhile, are not traditional competitors but will still be thrown in with the rest (For the sake of leaving no witnesses, such as Teresa. She's no trainer, but will blab about it if she gets a chance.) Of the four left to be introduced, one is an explicit villain, and the others may come off as untrustworthy or dubious on reveal (The Daryl guy that's asking Wilbur about his Gengar, for example, is one of these four. You'll have to wait and see which one he is though >:D)

Arte and Teresa are ultimately unimportant, but I do like them as characters. But ultimately if fat needs to be trimmed, well...snip snip.

Maybe Miles will recognize her? Not sure if anybody is going to follow him after that spat but given that he is in a wealthy family who has to choose his clothes to represent himself, he'd know where he'd get his fashion and any fashionistas who have pioneered them.

Besides, it might help cheer him up after that
