Waves softly came ashore onto the island. Generated by quite a few boats coming to dock at a grand port. The Jettison hotel's, to be specific. A glorious, cutting edge hotel by all means. And the first visitors to it were arriving just then, a litany of trainers from various walks of life. All convinced to come there for one very specific event.
The Jet Black tournament, of course! A week in paradise, butting heads with some of the greatest trainers in the world! With luxurious prizes promised to the winners, valuable goods that would catch any eyes. Key Stones, Mega Stones, sets of training vitamins, rare candies, and many more cash prizes. So not only was this a week of all expenses paid vacation, there was a chance to launch your training career into the next gear. You'd have to be a fool not to take up the offer.
One such trainer lured by the prizes. Top eight Unova league- Arte Parris.
Though it'd be hard to tell at a glance. He walked with an odd stride, head in the clouds. Hair unkempt and long. Hands in his pockets, stepping onto the pier. Following him, a fluffy creature- His fluffy creature, a Cinccino. The chinchilla Pokémon seemed far more aware than it's trainer, as they deftly avoided the feet of fellow tournament-goers and kept pace with their trainer.
And Arte came to a stop at a desk. Reception, at the end of the pier- making sure everyone's name was down right. Three stations, receptionists ready with a thick list of arrivals- And a thinner list of 'excluded individuals'. The receptionist spoke first. "Name?"
No response. Arte glancing into the sky.
"Um...Name?"
And Arte was dragged back down to earth. "Oh. Arte. Parris. Arte Parris."
The receptionist began looking through her list, half expecting to not see the strange boy's name there- But she found it. "Alright, just need to see an ID."
Arte did so, pulling out his wallet. Flashing his trainer ID, it was enough for the receptionist. "Alrighty, head to the Pokémon Center to finish your registration, and enjoy your stay. Next please!"
Leaving behind the reception desk, Arte was about to go back to his aimless gait, when there was a squeaking at his feet. The Cinccino. "Oh, Sugar. You want up?"
That wasn't quite what Sugar was going for. It was more 'pay attention you poor fool', but hey, he wasn't one to decline a ride. Besides, closer to Arte's face meant it was easier to grab his attention. The trainer leaned down, picked up the worrywart Cinccino, and began his gait again- Paying a little more attention this time.
"She said center, right...?" He said aloud, to no one in particular.
