Open The Johto Journies

"Gabite! Get out of there!" Drake called. But it was too late. Salamence had placed full trust in Jared, even if just for this one battle. Salamence slammed into Gabite. All Gabite could do was brace himself. It wasn't enough. Gabite was plunged into the ground, unconscious.
"Gab... gab... urk..." Gabite groaned.
"Gabite! Are you okay?" Drake asked, running over to his friend. It pained Drake to see his partner like this, but he'd done it to help Jared and Salamence. Drake healed Gabite with a Revival Herb, and turned to Salamence.
"You battled well Salamence," Drake smiled, "You were right to trust Jared. Good job."

"Salamence, nice job!" exclaimed Jared as he ran to hug his Pokemon for their win against Drake and Gabite. Salamence hesitated for a second, but it decided to let Jared embrace it. Jared laughed.

"So Jared, are you ready to face the Violet City Gym?" Drake asked. He had definitely opened up towards Jared. At least- more than he had with other people.
Gabite hopped around, healed and ready to battle in the gym. Jangmo-o was excited as well.

"Sure," Drake shrugged, "But I don't think I'll compete."
Drake walked into the Violet City Gym, and approached a middle-aged Falkner. It looked like he hadn't shaved in a while. Stubble croded his chin, and his shoulder-length hair was a mess. He'd seen better days.
"Falkner, I'm here to challenge you," Drake announced.
"Alright," Falkner grumbled, "Let's get it over with then. Go Pidgey."
Pidgey flew out of a Pokeball. Drake sent out Gabite.
"Pidgey, use Tackle," Falkner sighed. Pidgey clumsily flew towards Gabite.
"Use Dragon Rush!" Drake called. Gabite exploded into blue flames, and slammed into Pidgey. Pidgey fainted.
Falkner glanced down, then rolled out his next Pokemon, "Go Pidgeotto. Use Gust."
Pidgeotto lazily flapped his wings and sent a small breeze towards Gabite. Gabite used Crunch followed up by Dragon Rush to defeat Pidgeotto.
"Here you go," Falkner mumbled, handing Drake the Zephyr Badge.
"That was no way to battle!" Drake exclaimed, "You let your Pokemon get destroyed without even trying! That's not acceptable!"
"Shut up and take the badge," Falkner sighed. Drake snatched the badge and turned to Jared.
"You need to inspire Falkner," Drake instructed, "Give him a new fighting spirit like I did for your Salamence."

"Hey, Falkner!" shouted Jared. "Think fast! Cyndaquil, Flamethrower, and Salamence, Dragon Pulse!" They aimed the moves straight at Pidgeotto, who got hit while trying to escape slowly.
Falkner gasped. "So you want a real battle? I haven't had that many good challenges in a while, but I'll make an exception with you!"
"If I beat you," said Jared, "then you clean yourself up and get your act together. Deal? A one-on-one battle?"
Falkner smirked, "Fine! Like that's gonna happen!"
Cyndaquil started the battle against Pidgeotto, using Flame Wheel to knock it to the ground. Pidgeotto used Air Cutter and knocked Cyndaquil back. Enraged, Cyndaquil used Smokescreen and blinded Pidgeotto, then sending out a massive Flamethrower at Pidgeotto, knocking it to the ground. Pidgeotto wasn't done yet, it used Gust and blew Cyndaquil into a tree, damaging it badly. Cyndaquil got up and used Flamethrower on Pidgeotto, while Pidgeotto used Air Cutter. The two moves collided and went back and forth like it was a duel, and suddenly, Cyndaquil shone with a blue light and evolved into Quilava! This gave it the energy it needed to send the Flamethrower and Air Cutter straight at Pidgeotto, knocking it out!
"Nice job, Quilava!" shouted Jared, running to his newly evolved Pokemon. As he gave it a Potion, Falkner approached him and said, "You've proven me wrong! Thanks for turning my lifestyle back on track with that awesome battle! As a token, I want you to take the Zephyr Badge!"
As Jared grabbed the badge, he turned to Drake. "So, what did you think?"

"Um... Uh... Well... It was unorthodox- but I can't argue with results. Falkner looks a lot better. Is he actually smiling? Yeah, yeah he is. And Cyndaquil evolved! That's great! But the double-attack was unexpected," Drake laughed at the last bit.
Drake got down and scratched the back of Quilava's head.
Drake glanced up at Jared, "So are you, Quilava, and Salamence going to the Contest Hall now?"

"Yeah," responded Jared, "and I got to admit, I could never see myself getting Falkner to battle like THAT!" Then, he headed to the Pokemon Center. "All right, I'm headed to the Contest Hall. Wish me luck!"

Name: Piper
Gender: Female
Age: 16
Appearance: Black hair, dark brown eyes, pale skin, blue muscle shirt and black jeans, about 5'5
Personality: Spunky and competitive, will do anything for her Pokemon and friends.
Pokemon: Bagon, Kirlia, Bayleef, Pilowswine, Sableye, Riolu.
Background: Piper ran away from home when she was 13, before she left she got a starter, a chikorita. She has been training to be Johto's Champion.

Rp: Piper watched the battle continue, thinking of various strategies.
"I want to battle." She thought to herself, you could see on her face how desperate she was to train.

Name: Angelina "Angel" Hale
Gender: Female
Age: 15
Appearance: Long, black hair usually tied up in a ponytail. Different colored eyes, the right one being a gold-ish yellow, and the left an emerald green. Caucasian complexion, about 5'4". Attire consists of sunglasses (so that her eyes are covered), a black leather jacket with a hood, a white tanktop, dark blue jeans, black combat boots, and black fingerless gloves.
Personality: Angelina is very insecure about her physical appearance, especially her eyes, hence her almost always wearing sunglasses. While she'd love to have more friends, she has a hard time making them, so she's recently stopped trying. Now, she's travelling Johto with her Pokemon, searching for what her purpose might be. She enjoys battles and contests, but she doesn't want to make a goal out of it. She also wants nothing to do with her father's company. She has (what would be considered in real life, anyway) a New York accent.
Pokemon: Tyranitar, Houndoom
Background: Angelina Hale is the daughter of Alec Hale, a successful businessman and owner of a large company, which is based in Goldenrod City in Johto. Angelina is the heiress to the Hale Company, even though she never wanted anything to do with it. She grew up in several areas, going from estate to estate, but she frequently lived in Goldenrod, hence her accent. She met her partner, Ares the Tyranitar, when she was young. After going "adventuring" from one of the estates she lived at, she found the Tyranitar, wounded. She nursed it back to health, and the grateful Tyranitar has always had her back. Now, she's travelling her Region of birth, searching for what she wants to do in life.
----------
RP: Angelina sat in one of the many seats at the contest hall in Violet City, with her Houndoom, Hades, at her feet, enjoying being petted by his trainer. With her free hand, she dug in to her pocket and took out a Luxury Ball. "Sorry, buddy. It's a little cramped in here for you." She murmured, turning the Ball over in her hand. "But, we'll stop by a restaurant when this is over and get all three of us something to eat." She smiled at the Ball, as it shook, her Tyranitar inside agreeing with getting a meal.

As Jared went on stage to perform for the audience watching the contest, he sent out Quilava for the performance round. Quilava used Ember and Quick Attack, running from place to place and spitting out dazzling shots of fire at an incredible speed. Then, it used Flame Wheel and bounced from each ember it had shot out until it was high in the air, and then for a finish, it used Flamethrower while spinning to the ground, creating a vortex of fire around it. The vortex burst into thousands of sparkling embers, finishing up Quilava's and Jared's performance.

Angelina was grateful for the fact she wore sunglasses, because she saw some people nearby have to close their eyes because of the firey vortex the trainer and his Quilava had created. She thought he did well in the competition. "Those two did good, What do you think, Hades?" She inquired, looking down at the aforementioned Houndoom. Hades nodded in agreement. "Think he'll win?" Hades shook his head 'no.' "Really? Well, I have a good feeling about this one. I guess we'll see."

Drake smirked. Jared was an all around good trainer. Good in contests and battles. Drake disregarded his usual grumpy self and began to clap for the young trainer.
In a way, Drake hoped that Jared would become like a little brother. The little brother Drake never had. The little brother his mother had been pregnant with before she died. The little brother he never got to meet. He hoped Jared would stay close to him.

As Jared walked backstage, he noticed Drake was clapping for him. He laughed, for this was very out of character of him. After all the performances were over, the MC got onstage and announced, "Alright, the judges have decided which Trainers will move on to the battle rounds. These 8 coordinators are..."
Jared listened eagerly to hear if his name would be called. #5 was Lily, #6 was Suzy, #7 was Ian...
Jared gave up hope. He knew he wouldn't be the eighth coordinator. But he was wrong. He was the last Trainer moving on to the battle rounds!

Drake headed outside of the Contest Hall as coordinators prepared for the battle round of the Contest. While outside, he saw a Pineco. Easy training.
"Go Gabite! Use Dragon Rush!" Gabite sped towards Pineco. Upon contact, the Pineco exploded into a gray goo. The goo cemented. Gabite was stuck. A metallic arm reached out from some bushes, and snagged the sphere of concrete that held Gabite captive. Drake rushed over to the bushes, and peeked inside. He saw a woman with a red R on her chest. Team Rocket.
"Give back Gabite!" Drake roared, his eyes burning with hatred.
"You'll have to catch me!" the woman chirped, skipping off while the metal arm on her back carried Gabite. She sent out a Zubat. The Zubat used Supersonic on Drake. Drake stumbled around. His ears were ringing.
"Help..." Drake groaned, "Someone... Help..."

Since Jared was fighting the last battle of the round, he thought he'd see Drake, who had just went outside. He then saw a woman with an R shirt. She captured Drake's Gabite and was causing him pain with Supersonic. "Salamence, Quilava, go!" shouted Jared. "Quilava, use Flamethrower on Zubat, and Salamence, use Dragon Claw on that metal hand and let Gabite go!" Quilava one hit K-O'd Zubat, and Salamence freed Gabite, while Jared helped Drake up.

Drake got to his feet and, ignoring the fact that Jared had just saved the day, rushed over to Gabite. He hugged Gabite, and stared off in shock.
"I'm so sorry Gabite," Drake whispered. He wasn't able to save his friend. He had to rely on a kid. A little kid. He wasn't strong enough. He had to get stronger.
Drake turned to Jared and his Pokemon, "Thank you for helping Gabite. I think I'm going to go back to the Dragon Village in Sinnoh. I need to become stronger so I never let my friends get in any kind of danger. I'll be back when I get stronger. So I'll see you then. Oh, and hood luck on the Contest."
Drake climbed on Gabite's back, and wrapped his arms around his friend's neck. He was ready to go back to Sinnoh.

"But..." Jared gasped. "If it makes you stronger, then I guess I'm cool with that." He hid his tears and went back to perform in the battle rounds of the contest, where he and Salamence dominated in the battle rounds. Throughout the battles, Jared couldn't help but remember how Drake had helped him and Salamence, and under his breath while receiving the Violet Ribbon, he whispered, "Thank you." "What is Drake doing now?" he wondered as he headed for Azalea City.

"Told you he'd win." Angelina whispered to Hades. The Houndoom simply grunted. "I have a feeling this kid is going places. It's been a while since I've traveled with somebody." She murmured, as she stood up and proceeded to exit the Contest Hall. Upon exiting, she threw Ares's Luxury Ball in the air, letting out the Tyranitar. "So, what do you two think? Traveling with others?" Hades seemed skeptical on the thought, by Ares seemed eager, and gave a positive "Tyra!" As that happened, she noticed the same boy leaving town.

Angelina picked up the pace, in order to catch up to the boy. "Hey!" She called. "Jared, right? The one who just one the contest in Violet City?" I hope I don't scare him off. I suppose a girl in a leather jacket, followed by a Tyranitar and a Houndoom isn't the best way to greet someone, is it?

"The name's Angel. This is Ares and Hades." She stated, as her Tyranitar and Houndoom nodded as their nicknames were called. "Anyway, I saw your performance at the contest hall, and I was intrigued. If you don't mind, I'd like to join you on your journey throughout the Johto Region. Besides, it would be beneficial to you, too! I'm a native of Johto, so I know my way around the region."

Jared thought about her proposition for a second, and then answered, "Why not? It would be nice to travel with someone else, and I guess I do need the guidance."

Drake flew across the ocean on Gabite. Gabite was using Dragon Rush to zoom across the ocean. The blue flames surrounding Gabite didn't even remotely phase Drake. He was still too shocked that he had almost lost Gabite. He needed to get stronger. He saw Mt. Coronet from afar. Even though it was in the middle of Sinnoh, it was the easiest to see. And the Dragon Village was just South of Mt. Coronet in the Coronet Mountain Range. An hour later, he had arrived at the Dragon Village. He was preparing to land, when a large white, fluffy looking Pokemon swooped towards Drake and Gabite. Drake and Gabite were ready for easy training. Gabite flew into the Pokemon, but didn't seem to affect it. The Pokemon flapped its wings and sent a pink wind at Drake and Gabite. When the wind hit Gabite, he spiraled out of control and slammed into the ground. Drake rolled to the side, injured. He coughed, and sent out Jangmo-o.
"You won't beat it with Dragons," a voice said. Drake turned to see a dark-skinned man with a sturdy jawline.
"Doragon!" Drake smiled, and ran to hug the village leader.
"I'm happy to see you again Drake," Doragon patted Drake's back, "And we will talk. First, I must defeat this Togekiss. Go Steelix! Use Iron Tail!"
A Steelix leapt out from the ground and smacked Togekiss down with a tail of steel. Togekiss fainted.
"Doragon- aren't the rules of the Dragon Village that we are only allowed to battle alongside Dragons?" Drake asked.
"The world has evolved," Doragon explained, "We must evolve with it. My close friends are still Dragons, but I now befriend other Pokemon as well. Perhaps you should do the same. That way if you and your friends ever have to face a Fairy Type, you won't be defeated as easily as that Togekiss defeated you."
"So you're allowing me to catch a Pokemon that isn't a dragon?" Drake asked.
"That is correct," Doragon nodded.
Drake looked around. There were so many Pokemon around the village. And now he could catch them. He spotted one that looked very tough. A Cranidos. He approached it with Jangmo-o.
"Go Jangmo-o! Use Headbutt!"
Drake grinned. They were going to get a lot stronger.

"Great!" Angel replied, grinning. Behind her, Ares looked happy, too. Hades, however, just looked indifferent. "So, I know that you're participating and Pokemon Contests. What about the gym challenge, though? You look like you would be. You and your Salamence also looked like you two had a decent amount of battling experience under your belts, from what I saw during the battling rounds."

Drake sat down with Doragon. The village leader had made some tough choices while Drake was gone on his journey. The Elite Four was trying to take the land around the village and use it to make a new city and a new gym. Doragon had managed to convince them to leave the land alone, but it took a lot of work. Plus, many rules of the town had to be modified after Fairy Types showed up to take down the Dragons. He had to convince villagers that it was OK to befriend other Pokemon. Also, more and more trainers had come through the town and trashed it. It took a lot of work to restore the mountains to their natural form.
"So Drake, where have you gone on your journies?" Doragon asked, after explaining what had happened in the village during Drake's absence.
"I've been to Unova for a small bit," Drake shrugged, "I headed to Johto. I met a nice kid. I was going to go on a journey around Johto with him. But Team Rocket almost managed to take Gabite. The kid saved the day."
"The kid seems very strong," Doragon nodded, "So why are you back here?"
"If I can't protect my friends, I'm not worthy of being a trainer," Drake sighed.
"Ha! If I thought that I wouldn't be leading this village," Doragon said, "You have to live with disappointment. You have to realize that even if it wasn't you who saved the day- Gabite is still safe."
"I guess you're right," Drake nodded, "But I still want to get stronger before I return to Johto."
"Well you've already caught a new Pokemon," Doragon pointed out, referencing Drake's new friend, Cranidos.
"So are you saying I should return to Johto?" Drake asked.
"I believe that you should indeed train here," Doragon said, "But in time you will find strength inside of yourself. When you find that strength- you will return to Johto."
"Thank you Doragon," Drake smiled.
"You are most welcome Drake."

Jared turned to the girl, Angel, and said, "Yeah, I'm doing both contests and gym battles. So far, I've only beaten the Violet City gym leader, Falkner, so the gym in Azalea City will be my second badge!" Then, he asked her, "What is your goal, Angelina?'

"Well..." She started, rubbing the back of her neck awkwardly. "Truth is, I'm not sure what I want to do. I guess, for now, just the thrill of travelling is enough for me. Me, Ares, and Hades? We're just gonna mess around, for now. See where the journey takes us, you know? We'll find our purpose, some day. But, while we're in Johto, we got your back!"

"Thanks!" Jared laughed. Suddenly, he saw a rare sight ahead of him: a Heracross! He was going to catch it for sure! "Quilava, use Flame Wheel now!" While Quilava distracted the Pokemon, Jared threw a PokeBall, and Heracross went inside and was caught! He then turned to Angeline. "How was that?"

Drake, Gabite, Jangmo-o, and Cranidos scaled the side of Mt. Coronet. They had no ropes to hold them if they tumbled down the 60 degree slope. Gabite was ahead. He was much stronger than Drake, Jangmo-o, or Cranidos. The reason that Drake was training alongside them was that he wanted to be able to defend them if all of his Pokemon ever fainted. Suddenly, Jangmo-o crouched on a small ledge, then sprung upwards. Jangmo-o was now in the lead! Cranidos looked up to see how far ahead Jangmo-o was, and wobbled. Drake hefted himself upwards next to Cranidos, and steadied his new friend. However, Cranidos was more competitive than gracious, so he stomped on Drake's foot. Drake howled in pain, and fell backwards. Gabite whipped around to see Drake plummeting downwards. He leapt off the mountain, and glided down next to Drake. Gabite and Drake locked eyes, then both of them nodded. Gabite twirled and flung Drake at the mountain. Drake was ready. When he hit the mountain, he immediately found foot and hand-holds. Gabite began to glide at a gentler angle until he reached the ground. Gabite and Drake were too far behind to even have a chance to win. Obviously, Gabite could've just flown to the top, but the rules of the race were simply: no using moves. So, Drake and Gabite had to watch from below.
Drake had his eye on Cranidos, who was falling behind, when something else demanded his attention. A Steelix had burst out of the side of Mt. Coronet, followed by a hoard of Crobats. They were all headed towards Jangmo-o. Jangmo-o scratched around wildly with Dragon Claw. The Crobats flew away from Jangmo-o, but the Steelix was still slithering up the side of the mountain.
"Gabite! The rules no longer apply!" Drake yelled, "Fly up there and use Flamethrower on Steelix."
Gabite nodded, and blue flames surrounded him. He shot upwards, and opened his mouth. Red and orange flames were unleashed from his mouth. The flames consumed Steelix, and Steelix retreated back inside the mountain.
"Another successful day of training," Drake sighed, relieved.

"Hey, you don't need to go seeking approval on your progress from me. As long as something works for you, you do it how you wanna do it. That's the motto I've always lived by." Angel replied. "I have to admit, though. It was a quick and impressive capture. Tell me, have you ever thought about giving your Pokemon nicknames?"

"No," said Jared, "but now that you bring it up, I think I'd like to try that!" He let out all of his Pokemon. "Quilava, how about I call you... Inferno?" Quilava jumped with joy. "Ok then, Heracross, how about..... Rocky?" Heracross flashed a quick smile. "Great! Now, Salamence, how about I call you.... Draco?" Salamence apparently liked the name. "All right then!" exclaimed Jared. "Inferno, Rocky, and Draco!"

Drake was back at the Dragon Village. Training that day had been grueling. After the climb, they sprinted up and down mountains all the way back home, instead of just flying. The run took seven hours. They didn't stop or slow down once.
Drake was sitting inside Doragon's hut, drinking herbal tea with the elder when suddenly there was a knock at the door. Doragon got up to answer it. Standing outside was a man with bright red hair that was about an inch thick. Drake recognized him as Flint, the Elite Four member.
"I'm here for our battle regarding the reservation of this land," Flint stated.
"What?" Drake asked, "Doragon, I thought you said you resolved it."
"Resolved it?" Flint scoffed, "Hardly. More like he challenged me to a battle. If I win, then this land is opened for development of a new city and a new gym. If Doragon wins, it stays reserved for your people."
"Doragon! Flint is a member of the Elite Four!"
"I realize this," Doragon nodded, "But I trust in my Pokemon."
"Doragon, you only have three Pokemon," Drake pointed out, "Flint has five. And they're all super powerful!"
"I trust in my Pokemon," Doragon repeated, then sent out his first Pokemon, "Go Haxorus!"
"Go Rapidash!" Flint called. Rapidash and Haxorus stared each other down, menacingly.
"Use Dragon Claw!" Doragon ordered. Haxorus charged at Rapidash, and sent the flaming horse tumbling backwards.
"Use Flame Wheel Rapidash!"
Rapidash shook its mane, and a flaming wheel was sent towards Haxorus. Haxorus took the hit, then used Dragon Pulse to defeat Rapidash. Flint sent out Infernape. Infernape used Close Combat, followed by Low Kick. Then Infernape uppercut Haxorus, and used Close Combat once more to knock out Haxorus. Haxorus hadn't been able to get in even one attack.
"Go Dragonite!" Doragon called, "Use Dragon Rush!"
Dragonite flew upwards surrounded by blue flames, then shot towards Infernape. Infernape leapt up, grabbed Dragonite's head, and flung him into the ground. Infernape then shot downwards, and slammed his fist into Dragonite's head. Dragonite fainted.
"Dragonite..." Doragon whispered in disbelief, "Return. Go Steelix..."
Infernape used Flame Wheel followed up with Close Combat. Steelix fainted. Doragon had lost.
"Well, I'll inform the League that we can begin building," Flint said, "But don't worry. Your village will stay, it's just that there will be towns and cities surrounding you."
"Wait!" Drake called as Flint began to walk away.
"What?" Flint asked, annoyed.
"I want another chance to preserve this land," Drake said.
"It's over," Flint said, "I won. We're going to send in a construction crew in a few weeks."
"Just hear me out!" Drake pleaded.
"Fine."
"Give me a few weeks," Drake said, "However long until the construction crew was supposed to come."
"So five weeks," Flint said.
"Alright. Give me five weeks. I'll train hard for those five weeks. Then, we both return here and battle on the same terms. I win- this land stays reserved for the Dragon Village. You win- you set up that new city. Deal?"
Flint tapped his foot on the ground, then glanced up, "Let me check with Lucas."
Flint called the Champion, Lucas, and explained the situation. After a few minutes, he hung up, and turned to Drake.
"Deal."
Flint walked away.
"Drake, that was a very honorable action," Doragon smiled, hugging Drake, "But what did you mean when you said 'we both return'?"
"I'm going back to Johto," Drake explained, "And I'm going to take down those gyms. Then, I'll take on the Pokemon League."
"All in five months?"
"I have to," Drake nodded.
"Good luck," Doragon smiled.
"Thank you Doragon," Drake said. He climbed on Gabite, and flew back over the ocean towards Johto.
[OOC: I won't post for a while now because in this Drake has been gone for a few months, whereas everyone else has only RP'd a few days]

As they continued their journey to Azalea City, Jared noticed a couple of Team Rocket thugs jumping out of nowhere. "Time to hand over your Pokemon, kids!" he grunted. Jared turned to Angel. "Help me out!"

"I hate these arrogant Team Rocket imbeciles. It'll be my pleasure to beat down these glorified thugs. Ares, Hades, be a couple of dears and show these buffoons that they decided to steal Pokemon from the wrong trainers?" She asked, smirking as she looked back at her partners. Ares let out a fierce growl, with a confident smirk across his face. "Taarrr!" He bellowed, while Hades simply have a snort, and a bit of smoke puffed out of his nostrils. "I'll let you two goons go first." Angelina quipped, giving the Tean Rocket grunts a wink.

"Rocky, let's go!" shouted Jared as he sent out his Pokemon to go and fight against Team Rocket with Ares. "Don't overestimate these guys, Angel! They're all bark, but no bite! Still kind of annoying so...."

"Like I said, glorified thugs. That's all these Tean Rocket creeps are. We should be able to take 'em down, no trouble." Angel replied, studying the two Tean Rocket grunts. It seemed the fact she had a Tyranitar behind her was enough to at least shake up one of the goons. "So, Hared, you and Rocky want the first move? Or should Ares and I start off?"

"We'll go!" Jared responded. Team Rocket sent out a Raticate and an Arbor, which were two surprisingly strong Pokemon. "Rocky, use Karate Chop on Raticate!" Rocky leaped towards Raticate, who blocked the move with its tail. "Other hand, now!" shouted Jared. With its other hand, Rocky slashed Raticate across the face.
