The Snow Trail (Open, Just Join)

Jacob trudged onwards through the snow. He was about three miles out from Dendemille Town, and he was headed out further. The snow had accumulated pretty heavily the night before, and Jacob was glad he hadn’t been out in the storm. But the added snow had made it terribly difficult for him to continue his journey, and he had spent most of the day walking just a few miles out. The sun was already beginning to dip down behind the horizon, and the sky had turned bright orange. Jacob felt lonely. He would usually rectify this by releasing one of his pokemon, but he didn’t want them to freeze or have to push their way through the snow. The oncoming night worried him; he’d have to find a safe place to camp.

As he was thinking, he heard something crunch in the snow behind him. He turned around. Jacob had been walking between two higher shelves, both covered with snow, that had created a more pathlike area that was easier to walk. On one of these ledges, Jacob could clearly see a Weavile looking down at him, smiling. Jacob had never liked Weavile, and Dark pokemon in general creeped him out. But there was something about this Weavile. They stood, staring each other down for a few moments before the Weavile turned backwards.

“Vile, Weavile Wea!” The pokemon called out. Jacob watched as another and then another Weavile appeared to join their brother. Jacob counted each of them, reaching five before he turned to run. Stomping awkwardly through the snow, he wasn’t going at any sort of great speed. Meanwhile, the Weavile skated across the ice, easily reaching their full speed in their natural habitat. As the group approached him, Jacob reached for a pokeball.

“Let’s go, Nero!” He said as he released a pokeball. In a flash of light, his Blaziken, Nero, appeared at his side. The pokemon raised his hands and roared.

“BLAAAAAAAZE!”

“Nero, use flamethrower!” he said, wasting no time giving orders. Jacob had pointed towards the oncoming horde of Weavile, and Nero released a beam of fire towards them. The Weavile dispersed, jumping every which way to dodge the attack. The group was too fast, and none were hit by Nero’s attack. They quickly regained control of the situation, surrounding Jacob and Nero. Jacob didn’t know what to do; Nero didn’t have the strength to overpower five Weavile in their natural environment. Jacob had never hated Weavile more. As he thought this, the Weavile from behind Jacob jumped forward, swinging its arm with a night slash attack. Jacob dodged it, and the pokemon fell forward.

“Nero!” He said, calling out to his pokemon. Nero’s foot glowed red as he swung it around, slamming the Weavile with a blaze kick. The Weavile was sent flying backwards, landing in a pile of snow. Another Weavile leapt forward, this time from the front. “Fire Punch!” Blaziken swung his fist, now glowing red and orange with fire energy. He caught the Weavile in the face, knocking the pokemon to the ground. The hit Weavile sunk into the snow. But the next Weavile caught Nero by surprise, slashing his back. Nero leaned backwards and roared in pain, but that left another opening. Another Weavile released an Icy Wind attack. The blast of freezing wind sent Nero flying backwards, smashing into Jacob. Together, the two tumbled to the ground.

Jacob was now breathing heavily as he and Nero rose to their feet. All the Weavile facing them from their front now, they were in position to launch an attack. “Flamethrower!” Jacob ordered, and again the Blaziken sent a column of fire towards the Weavile. The group dodged again, and rushed towards Jacob and Nero, attempting to surround them. Jacob wouldn’t let the ice pokemon get an advantage, however. “Nero, Flare Blitz!” The pokemon glowed blue with flames and rushed one of the Weavile. He crashed into it, sending the Weavile falling backwards, once again into the snow. A Weavile lashed out at Nero again, but the fire pokemon, still enveloped in flames, ducked, avoiding the attack before swinging his body forward, pushing the Weavile to the ground. Nero was about to finish the Weavile when another launched an ice beam attack. The blue beam hit Nero’s leg, freezing it to the ground. The fire pokemon struggled to get free as another one of the Weavile, using a quick attack, slammed into the Blaziken. With his foot still trapped, Nero swung back, but was hit again with a night slash from behind. Another quick attack threw Nero free from the ice, but knocked him down, and away from Jacob. Nero lay in the snow, struggling in an attempt to stand.

“Nero,” Jacob called out as another quick attack from one of the Weavile pushed the Blaziken onto his back. Jacob needed to think of something. There were too many Weavile, and they were too fast. Jacob needed to even the odds. “Alright, Stargazer, come help us!” He called out as he released another pokeball. In another flash, his Golurk, Stargazer, appeared beside him. The huge pokemon towered over the Weavile who paused in their attacking of the fallen Blaziken to look up at their new opponent. One of the Weavile stepped forward, the one Jacob had stared down before, and released an ice beam attack. Stargazer rose its arm, blocking the attack. Its hand froze, creating a block of ice. Stargazer merely tilted its head, looking at the ice, before retracting its fist, releasing flames that shattered the ice block. The pokemon then turned toward the Weavile.

“Stargazer,” Jacob ordered. “Use night shade!” The Golurk placed both its arms forward with its hands facing towards the Weavile. Correctly aimed, it released a beam of black ghost energy. The beam hit one of the Weavile, sending the pokemon flying backwards, rolling through the snow. The Weavile scattered, running about, escaping from Stargazer and Jacob. “Thanks, Stargazer,” Jacob said as a flash of red returned the pokemon to its pokeball. Jacob slowly walked over to his fallen Blaziken, who looked up at Jacob, ashamed.

“Don’t worry about it, Nero. It was a five on one; there’s no way you could have beaten them.” The Blaziken nodded sadly. “Alright, take a rest now,” he said as he reached for Nero’s pokeball. In a flash of red, the pokemon was gone, disappeared into his pokeball. Jacob looked up. The sun was nearly entirely behind the horizon now; there was only a sliver of light remaining. With no sort of protection in sight and night rapidly approaching, Jacob decided to make his own protection.

Releasing two pokeballs, Atlas, his Tangrowth, and Dexter, his Heliolisk both appeared beside him. Together, the group began to put together a small fortress; they built a small shelter with walls of ice, forming an igloo barely large enough to fit the three of them. With this completed, and the sun now gone, they began working to build small barriers to protect them from the Weavile. Snow began to fall from the sky as they worked, reducing visibility further. Every now and then, Jacob could hear the Weavile moving around him. They were still the pray.

All of a sudden, Jacob heard a much louder crunch, the sound of snow below someone’s, or something’s, feet. He turned immediately to see what had made the noise.

Nick was freezing cold in the storm, he was looking around for a shelter and was lucky to survive an encounter with a bunch of weaviles, he was riding his mamoswine ymir, "my goodness I am lucky that I haven't turned into an ice block!", suddenly he was ambushed by a pack of weaviles again, "ok I had enough, ymir come back, go thor!" He said sending the electivier, "use wild charge!", thor's body was charged up with lots of electricity, he charged at the weaviles and blasted a good amount of them but another one shot thor with an ice beam, "use earthquake!", it was a bad decision, for they where very close to a mountain and the earthquake caused an avalanche, "that's enough thor, come back" he said as his pokemon was retrieved into the ball by the red beam, "go freya, ok girl I know it too cold but I need you to do me a favour" he said pointing at the avalanche, freya picked him up and dashed as fast as possible until they where safe, "thanks freya" he said, she replied with a "blaze blazekin" before going back to her ball, nick suddenly noticed an igloo and decided to investigate it, so he went closer

A small Eevee trudged through the freezing snow, tears frozen to her eyes.

She had run away from a abusive trainer who would beat her every day. Eevee wasn't used to the cold, having been raised in Cycallage City. She saw two trainers up ahead. She was terrified to approach them, but was desperate for help. Maybe they would accept her for her shiny pelt.

"How in the world did I get in this mess?" A young female mumbled to herself as she trudged through the thick snow. Her footprints in the snow were crisp and clear causing the young woman to panic. She knew that person would come looking for her if he found her footprints. It wasn't necessarily bad that this person would find her, but she desperately hoped he didn't or her adventures would be over. Next to her, and Espeon left its own small round footprints in the sparkling snow. "Are you cold?" The young female asked as she worriedly glanced down at her psychic type. "Espe..." The Espeon replied with a shiver. The trainer nodded her head and smiled softly a her Pokemon before using a Pokeball to return it.

The snow started to fall now, landing on her nose and on her eyelashes. Her brown hair, displaying a small grey hair peice, was most undoubtedly speckled with white. "Thank goodness we took a vacation to Snowbelle, it probably just saved my life." The girl shivered and pulled the stylish black trench coat closer to her. Her white leggings definitely didn't aid her heat wise, but the tall fuzzy black boots did make up for some of the exposed area. She pulled out a small note from her black shoulder bag and read it; making sure that the falling snow didn't smudge the neat pencil written handwriting on the paper.

Dear Ashen,
I personally accept your desire. You have a goal in mind; congratulations. I did not have my sights set on a reasonable goal when I was your age. Please, for our family and your future, go. Please go on this journey that you have wanted to embark on for so long. I have left this note at home for you when we aren't home, so I don't have to cry when you leave us. Good luck my dear, we will miss you; even Shadows. Take your Pokemon, be safe, and alway know that we are with you in your heart.
-Mom, Harry and Shadows

Ashen, the young female's name, teared up slightly as she re read the paper for the fourth time since she started her journey with her Pokemon only two days ago. Gently wiping the small tears collecting in her eyes, Ashen folded the letter neatly and placed it back in her bag. Before she closed it, Ashen noticed a small watch-shaped object in the small corner of her bag that she didn't not recall packing. She reached in and grabbed the grey object and gasped when she pulled it out into the dim light of the snowstorm. A Pokech was sitting in her hand, manifesting in a shiny newness, but it was clear that the object had been lovingly used. "Mother's Pokech..." Ashen whispered and cradled the object close to her chest. She then snapped the device on her wrist and closed her bag.

Ashen covered her eyes to continue moving forwards. She was growing cold despite her well suited gear for this type of weather. However, stopping may lead to illnesses or maybe even death. A rustling to her left brough her attention back to it's normal alertness as she gazed through the harsh snow to identify the source of the noise. Ashen's hand slowly reached into a large pocket in her coat where she kept her pokeballs and pulled one out. The monster ball expanded in her hand, but the trainer did not release its contents. A protective roar echoed as a Beartic flung itself at Ashen with rage written clearly on it's face. The trainer remained calm and released the contents of the Pokeball; a grey and blue Ninetales. The Ninetales erupted in a blaze of fire, knocking the Beartic back the way it came. "Cinder... Are you ok to fight?" Ashen asked her Pokemon quietly. The nine tailed fox nodded its head and turned her attention back to the problem at hand. The white bear Pokemon had once more launched itself ferociously at Cinder, who erupted in more fires to repel the beast.

In the meantime, Ashen snuck away and crawled through the snow swiftly; makes sure to keep low. A hushed cry in the distance made a smile creep up onto Ashen's face as she quickened her hasty actions in the snow. Her vision was growing blurry with weariness, but she pushed on in order to keep Cinder safe. Finally she found her objective; a small Cubchoo crying in the snow. "Shh... Shh... It's ok little one..." Ashen cooed softly and she heard the cries of the small ice type subside slightly. Slowly and carefully the trainer reached for the bear and gently lifted it up. She held the bear as she would hold her baby brother when he was a child. Ashen proceeded back to where the fire was which meant were Cinder also was. Despite her conscious telling her to hurry up, Ashen remained at a soothing calm walk until she was approximately ten feet from the raging Pokemon.

"Cinder! Fall back, there is no reason to attack." Ashen called calmly and smiled as the Ninetales instantly stopped and back up like they trained. "Beartic! Is this your cub whom you were looking for?" She asked boldly in front of the angry ice type. The Beartic looked at the Cubchoo before crying out happily and taking it's cub from Ashen's arms. Then, to Ashen's relief, both ice types trailed away, cooing happily to one another. After several moments of ensuring that the ice types were calm and not agressive, Ashen sighed and clutched her arm in pain. The Cubchoo was forced to lower its body heat to maintain it's normal temperature next to Ashen's warm body. However, the 'normal' temperature for a Cubchoo is highly dangerous to a human and can easily cause frostbite in seconds. "Cinder, we need to find a place to stay..." She groaned. In her vision, an igloo was visible with the sounds of a group of Pokemon nearby, so Ashen returned her Ninetales in the growing darkness and collapsed in the snow due to weariness and pain.

Jacob turned to see Nick who was approaching. Jacob recognized the man from their battle in the Slateport Tournament not long ago. He stood, moving out of the igloo to great Nick when he heard another crunch. He turned to his left to see a young women lying in the snow. Jacob began to move quickly, pushing through the snow. He was rather slow, however, and Dexter, his Heliolisk, rushed ahead. The pokemon was light enough on his feet to run across the top of the snow without completely sinking, making him the faster than most in this climate. Dexter reached the girl first analyzing her as he waited for Jacob to arrive.

“Heeeeee” Dexter said, telling Jacob to look at the girl as he poked her in the face to see if she responded.

“Stop that Dexter!” He shouted at his pokemon, embarrassed about his inquisitive nature. He reached the woman and continued. “Sorry about that, are you alright?” As he asked this he heard another loud crunch, this time far louder than the previous one. He jerked his head, looking out at the mountain that ascended behind them. He hadn’t been in this area long enough to know what such a loud crunch meant, and his first thought was a stampede of Mamoswine. However, the truth hit him when he saw it.

The snow began to slide off the mountain side. A mix of rock, snow and ice tumbled towards them, picking up speed, accelerating as it fell. Jacob responded quickly, grabbing a pokeball and recalling his Tangrowth, Atlas, who was having trouble moving through the snow. It appeared as though his time spent building his igloo would go to waste, as it became clear their only option was to run.

“Can you move? We need to leave,” Jacob said, shouting over the sound of falling debris. There wasn’t enough time, and there was no way this girl was going to be able to move quickly enough to escape. Jacob grabbed a pokeball from his belt and in a flash of white, his Blaziken, Nero was at his side again. Nero hadn’t had a long rest, but Jacob hoped it would be enough. “Nero, we’ve got to move! Pick up the girl and let’s go!”

Nick had seen Jacob in the distance, "Jacob? Hey wait up!" He thought, he noticed that he was riding nero and that he was helping someone, "I better speed up or the avalanche will get me, hey freya can you go a bit faster girl?", she nodded and started to catch up.

Nick was right next to Jacob and said "remember me? Been a long time hasn't it?", he remembered every moment of their battle in the tornament and he sure had enjoyed that battle, freya just gave nero a wink.

Cider, who felt a presence outside of her Pokeball, finally let herself out. Ever since she was returned, the Ninetales wanted to be out, but she didn't have a solid reason as to why. Now she did. The shiny Ninetales emerged to see two young males and two Blazikens. Not to mention the Avalanche. "Nine!" She exclaimed as she studied her trainer. The Ninetales lifted her trainer up via psychic and glanced at the other two trainers; establishing her place as Ashen's Pokemon.

Ashen was floating slightly above Cinder, and then was deposited on the moderately large Ninetale's back. Cinder sniffed at Ashen's arm carefully before eyeing the Avalanche again. "Nine!" She pointed out that they had waning time.

Bolt walked through the snow. It was freezing for her and she didn't like it. Her spiky fur froze and it could be shot out like needles. She could already do that but she was badly injured. A bunch of Weavile attacked her and got her badly. The Jolteon noticed a igloo and started to walk towards it. She could speak human language so it was fine. She reached the igloo and walked in quietly. "Hello?" Bolt said.

Jacob sent a nod over towards Nick as he spoke, but there wasn't enough time for a reunion. The avalanche was rushing towards them at a great speed. It was so loud that it blocked out the noise of a small talking Jolteon to their side. Jacob had caught a glimpse of the pokemon before; what was it doing in the snow? But he hadn't given it much thought; he was far to focused on the psychic Ninetales that had lifted the girl off the ground. Why was every Ninetales he came across psychic? He had met at least two others, and now that he thought about it, he knew no non-psychic Ninetales. But he couldn't worry about that now. Jacob turned to run but it was too late. The avalanche was already upon them, and the wall composed of ice, snow, and rock threatened to crush them all in one swoop.

"Nero!" He called out to his Blaziken. The pokemon turned around to see the approaching danger. "Fire-spin!" The Blaziken nodded before opening his mouth, releasing flames that surrounded the group, forming a barrier around them. As the avalanche crashed into them, the immediate ice and snow was melted, keeping the group safe from their pummeling. Some of the rock, however, made it through, and the group was pelted with pebbles. Luckily, the only lare boulder flew over their heads landing behind them.

The fire-spin protected them from the snow and ice in the vicinity, but it couldn't stop the entire fall. The mixture surrounded the group, forming a small half-sphere of empty space, completely covered and surrounded in snow, ice and rock. The avalanche had blocked out the clouds from above, everything went dark. The group was trapped under two dozen feet of snow.

Bolt whimpered and started to glow, brightening up the area. "Urg, my head hurts..." Bolt whispered touching the part where the Weavile bit her. The glowing went brighter until the whole orb could be seen.

"Well I guess we're stuck in here, and I'm the one to blame but at least we're alive" said nick as he looked at freya, who was looking at nero.
Nick sighed and sent out loki, the sableye landed and shouted "sa - sable!" For it was confused about the surroundings, "Hey loki we are kinda stuck and since you are smart do you think you can come up with a plan to get us out" said nick and the sableye instantly went to work

"Alright," Jacob said, looking around their dark snow-cavern. He now noticed the Jolteon laying on the ground beside him, dug in a small hole, giving off enough light for Jacob to clearly see. He looked at it for a moment before assuming it belonged to Ashen or Nick. He recognized Nick's Sableye Loki as it began searching their small room, but Jacob was almost certain it wouldn't find anything; what could a Sableye find in their cavern that would help them escape? If they were going to get out, they would have to make their own way. Jacob turned to his Blaziken, Nero, who was standing at his side.

"Nero, flamethrower," he ordered, pointing at the far wall. His Blaziken took a deep breath before releasing a beam of flames that pushed into the side of the cavern. Nero increased the size of the flamethrower, melting a pathway large enough for the group to walk through, two by two. Nero paused, and Jacob nodded. "Well done." He looked down the icy corridor to see nothing but another wall of snow and ice. He turned back to the group. "Shall we go?" He asked as he and Nero began walking down the pathway. As they reached the wall, Nero released another flamethrower, cutting through the ice and snow and lengthening the path.

Bolt jumped up and walked behind Jacob quietly. "Jeez I've been in the snow for 1 week and I'm still not used to the cold" Bold whispered and walked onwards.

Nick followed Jacob, "so how's it been going for you?" He asked, as nero melted more and more of the snow as they went, loki was following behind him and started to tug on nick's pants, "feeling cold little fella?" He asked and the sableye instantly nodded, nick pulled out a pokeball and retrieved loki, he then placed it in his war hammer pokeball case.

Ben was walking in the snow. Cold.lost and nowhere to go for shelters hen he suddenly fell underground "huh? Jacob hey Jacob remember me? It's me Ben. From the slateport tournament. Hey guess what? I got my eighth badge! And I caught loads more Pokémon see?" Ben showed Jacob his Pokédex "see? I now have 146 Pokémon registered In my Pokédex. Ooh look at this." Ben tossed a Quick ball up in the sky and immediately a Charizard popped out "say hi to Draca" Ben's Charizard was flying around with joy "since I first saw Curt's Charmander. Embertail. I've wanted a Charmander. And so I got one at Lumiose City. And I'm not just focusing on completing the Pokédex I'm also focusing on becoming the strongest trainer I can be"

Bolt's ear twitched and she decided that it was not a good idea to talk. Bolt saw something shiny and walked to it. It was golden but only a piece stuck out and most of it was buried in the snow. Bolt started to push the snow out of the way. Her ear twitched as a small wooden box with golden rims emerged from the snow. She picked up the box and walked to Jacob and nudged his leg.

EDIT: Changed the post for story continuity

Rick was trudging through the snow, sad he let his pokemon choose where to take their vacation. Their short-term memory was in effect, and they thought they were hot. So onwards to the snowy place was their first thought. Grrrrreeeeat choice, thought Rick. Rick's Umbreon, Neon, also seemed to be regretting this decision. However, they were already too far to turn back now. The directions to the nearest village or city with warm houses was given to him by some fishy looking strangers. No, not the good Magikarp-kind of fishy, the bad sketchy-kind of fishy. And no, not the Smeargle-kind of sketchy, the --- Nevermind. Slowly, Rick and Neon began to doubt those directions, but they trudged on nonetheless.

As they proceeded, they heard a sound on the cliff beside them. When they turned to look, it was already too late. The snow had begun to fall off of the cliff, mixed with rocks. Rick reacted quickly, shouting "Neon, Protect!" As the snow came down, umbreon dashed forward and the shield provided by Protect sprang to life in front of the two. The snow fell around them, trapping them in a small clearing, surrounded by tons and tons of snow. There was only one bright side to this situation. The cliff didn't have a high chance of having a devastating avalanche again. It had kind of already happened.

Rick began to analyze his situation. He thought he had seen others in the distance before the avalanche. He needed to go see if they were okay, and hopefully stick with them. There was safety in numbers. And warmth, thought Rick. "Neon, Sunny Day!" Neon's eyes began to glow fiery and Neon raised his front two paws to the sky. As he did, a white beam was released from his paws. It isn't going to solve our problem, but we won't die in here, and maybe it'll make it easier to dig... Afterwards, Neon looked exhausted and cold. Rick withdrew the shivering Umbreon and got to work on digging.

After a little time of digging, Rick found his way into a small circular area where there was what appeared to be a doorway dug in one of the sides. In the distance was a group of people and pokemon walking down the tunnel. As he watched, he seen fire spout from one of the pokemon, and he began to realize one of the trainers was probably using a fire-type to melt a tunnel out. Well, thought Rick. If I catch up to them, maybe one of them can give me information on where the nearest town is. Even if they don't, that appears to be a strong fire-type they have up there... Any warmth is good warmth...

And so Rick trudged on through the homemade tunnel, until he eventually caught up with the others. Without trying to surprise them, he politely told them of his dilemma and asked if they knew where the nearest town was.

"Even if you guys don't, you mind if I stick with you? Any heat is good heat, and that Blaziken seems mighty warm..." Rick asked.
