TV Time

Random thought occurred to me. In the past (about 6-7 years ago), I used to watch hours and hours of TV, now I don't really watch it at all. We haven't had a working satellite for weeks and I don't even care since I can has the internets and DVDs to fill the void. It's kinda sad, really. TV used to mean something to me. Now all I care about are older shows that ended ages ago (or reruns), and stuff that doesn't even air in North America...

Anyone in a similar boat, or do you find you're quite the opposite and still watch as much TV as you always did? (For the sake of this thread, I'm not counting video games, DVDs, or downloads as 'watching TV')

Same goes for me - I used to find myself watching TV for hours on end back when I was a kid, but now, I hardly watch any at all. Being restricted to freeview channels was a major contributing factor to this, since I once had access to Sky TV, which granted me hundreds of channels to pick from. However, I personally feel that TV over here in the UK just isn't as good as it once was - even Sky TV was starting to gradually worsen as time went on before we got rid of it, and then ultimately losing it effectively put the final nail in the coffin.

YouTube is basically my new TV now, sad to say. That and whatever I download from torrents and whatnot.

Pretty much the same here. I used to come home from school and head straight for the TV. Weekends were just TV watching days. I watched way to much really, when I think about it now. Now though, I rarely sit down and watch anything. When I was at Uni I used to put the TV to 'watch' while working, but I don't really count that, I just wanted some background noise. I'd agree with King of Lucario on the decline of UK TV, there's rarely anything I want to watch. I used to enjoy watching nature shows, but they don't do many good quality ones these days. The odd show I do like, like Desperate Housewives, is American, but I wait for the series to come out on DVD before watching it XD

I pretty much read instead how, or watch my DVDs.

Yer, I fall into that category as well :/
Back when I wasn't drowning in homework, I was constantly in front of the television. But there's nothing good on anymore, or at least not at convenient times.
Or times that I'm aware of.
Freaking UKTV keeps moving Doctor Who to the queerest slots on Australian Foxtel. And the season's over now anyway. -huffs-
But House and the Doctor are the only things I bother to check the TV times for.

I used to watch it almost 24/7. Now I only watch it, at the most, 3-4 hours a day. Theres hardly anything on when I do want to watch TV. When I do watch TV, I usually look out for Chowder, Flapjack..basically good Cartoon Network shows. Every now and then, they'll play a movie I'll want to watch..(Like last night I watched Naruto: The Guardians of the Cresent Moon Kingdom.) Other than that..I hardly watch TV now that I have a real life.

God, bandwagon time. TV used to be my life, now it's the computer. :p I don't really watch TV a whole lot anymore because of the new TV shows, which in my opinion, are boring and ridiculous almost to a point where I want to cry. The old TV shows were much better damnit >:E Heck I don't even watch cartoons anymore because of it.

If I ever do watch TV, it's either movies, ID (Investigation Discovery. Crimes and that kinda stuff. Ian says it's my crack channel on TV ^^; ),Discovery and Discovery Health. Yep. Extrememly limited.

I hardly watch any TV anymore. Ever since high school, homework took up all my time. Even when I do have free time, I usually fill it with books, video games, the internet, or going around on the scooter I got for Christmas.

This has been going on for years. I'm frequently told to 'get a life, homework doesn't count!'

Before that, I used to watch about an hour or two a day. After a while, I can just feel the television sucking out my IQ. It happened one time in the TV lounge after class. Somebody put on SpongeBob, and I felt stupid watching it. Go figure.

Yeah... Is there somebody who watches more TV? Because seriously, TV was like my fourth best friend or something and now it's like something that makes me sleep if I watch too late at night. Mostly on Saturday mornings, where you could watch new episodes of Digimon and Pokemon. And other shows didn't seem so terrible or stupid as they are now. I think I stopped watching as much when PowerPuff Girls ended. Oh goodness, I remember the Friday nights dwindle away... Good thing that it was mostly in Elementary school. Now it's Warcraft, Internet and books. I still have no life.

My TV life now is limited to Heroes and Gurren Lagan on Monday, House on Tuesday, Bones and South Park on Wednesday, Star Wars Clone Wars on Friday, Digimon, Naruto, and Adult Swim (actually I record that and watch it on Sunday cause the time slot sucks) on Saturday, Digimon and Family Guy on Sunday, and the occational "I'm bored whats on Discovery/History/National Geographic/Animal Planet."

That is actually less than when I was a youngling. Now I either sleep, do homework, play videogames or hoard the compy.

The thing that amuses me is that I had a much more active social life in high school than I do now (I also put more time towards video games and writing/RPing then), yet I still managed to fill my days with at least 2-3 hours of TV. Rayn hit on some of the stuff I used to watch... Dubbed Digimon, Pokemon, and other random cartoons/dubbed Anime. Then I had shows like Buffy, Angel, Dark Angel, Xena & Hercules, X-Files, etc. (all of which ended years ago), and the Simpsons and Friends. Jeez, I used to watch the Simpsons religiously until about 2001, then I just... stopped caring for some reason.

Now, there's really not a whole lot that interests me enough to follow it regularly. I'd rather just wait, catch 'em on DVD, and watch them at my convenience.

When I do watch TV, that's what I do. I DVR interesting documentaries (like the science of gigantisim) and watch 'em when I have time.

The DVR is one of the best inventions for time-pressed people like me.

I never watch TV at all these days; except if Doctor Who's on. That is literally the only TV I watch willingly.

Wow... I remember a few years ago I was watching something like 25 hours of tv a week religiously. Nowadays the only tv I want to watch when it is actually scheduled is Chuck and Heroes, the rest I just download later to watch at my convenience.

...TV? You mean there's something other than this computer screen? o_o ... Ooooh yeeeaaaah.... There's that thing I do Monday nights... where I watch that one Heroes show... and then I come back...

Lulz. Anyway >> I've not been watching TV for anything but Heroes. Besides that the only other use the TV is for is for games. (Game>=D) But yep, used to be like the rest of you, used to watch like 1-2 hours of TV a day. But not anymore. >> There's just not anything that captures my interest.

Funnily enough, there was a newspaper article about how much TV people watch today. It said studies show that unhappy people tend to watch 20% more TV than happier people, who socialise more or have other interests. Guess we people from 'Charms must be happy people XD

There was an Egyptian documentary I really wanted to watch last night, but I was working. Typical.
