100 years ago was great time to be alive.

It's Unova, and the 1920s are roaring like morning Undella waves. Soldiers are back home, new forms of entertainment are everywhere, and everyone has money for the hottest fashion and most lavish of luxuries. Women previously kept silent have been given fresh opportunities to have the world hear their voices. Today is a wonderful time to be a Unovan.

...Of course, not everybody thinks that way. Cities like Castelia and Black City are rife with organized crime, piggybacking off of alcohol bans and draconian restrictions on unauthorized Pokemon battles. Cities like Driftveil and Virbank, while booming, continue to suffer from pollution brought on by empires of coal and oil. While Unova may be stepping forward into the future, it may not be as blindingly bright as it may seem.

Will you be among the few clean cops left, and attempt to break up the gangs and illegal gyms that dot the streets? Will you be a street urchin, and attempt to carve out your place in the world---whether illegally or legally? Will you be among Unova's elite, and bask in ill-gotten gains before they inevitably leave your side? Or are you ready to find your destiny through your adventures, and go wherever the crisp Unovan winds take you? Whatever your fate, be ready to experience it in the here and now; the good times can only last for so long.

VARIANTS

A century is a long time. In that time, many kinds of Pokemon have come and gone. Like some regions, both present and past, this version of Unova has a few Pokemon that deviate from their modern descendants. If you have any ideas for other new variants, feel free to send them!

Species: Hardian Gallade

Type: Psychic/Fairy

Ability: Telepathy

Overview: Many Gallade in the 1920s, especially in Unova, traded a physical, confrontational lifestyle for one filled with introspection. The more mystical variant of Gallade quickly became the center of large spiritual revivals across Unova.

Appearance: Hardian Gallade sport colors colder than their Hoennese counterparts. The Hardian Gallade’s most notable feature is its dark blue robe, which extends down to its feet, but does not extend far from its own body like a Gardevoir’s dress. The robes are mostly straight, but are slightly flared outward at the Gallade's feet. Their light blue arms are more slender, shorter, and overall more human-like. Their shiny variants have colors similar to Hardian Gardevoir, most notably a gold robe with purple, eye-shaped outlines whose patterns are unique to each Gallade.

Species: Hardian Gardevoir

Type: Psychic/Fighting

Ability: Justified

Overview: In contrast to the Gallade, Unova's Gardevoir have become significantly more outgoing, becoming both a cause and effect of the region's changing norms.

Appearance: Hardian Gardevoir sport colors hotter than their Hoennese counterparts. Its gown instead resembles a peach-colored skirt, extending to only just above the knee. Their arms appear much less delicate, and have what appear to be red gloves from the elbow to the hand. Shiny variants sport colder colors more akin to Hardian Gallade, with purple skirts and black gloves.

Species: Hardian Smeargle

Type: Normal

Ability: Trace

Overview: Rather than intricate, time-consuming works of art, many of Unova’s Smeargle have instead been trained in the art of print. Instead of quality, the Hardian Smeargle prioritize quantity of work, memorizing speeches, interviews, and large volumes of text to transcribe later.

Appearance: Smeargle’s body is black with white accents, giving the appearance of a suit. Its tail, hands, feet, and face are dark-gray, and the Hardian Smeargle’s beret-shaped hair instead looks more similar to a fedora. The tip of Smeargle’s tail has a more fine tip and is covered in jet-black ink. Smeargle who work for news companies are often outfitted with a small bag around their waist to hand out newspapers. Shiny Smeargle use blue ink instead of black ink, and their “hats” are a similar Prussian shade of blue.

Other: Instead of Sketch, Hardian Smeargle learn Print, allowing them to use three of another Pokemon’s moves—but only use each move once.

Overview: This older variant of the modern Whismur line became popular for its irreplicable rhythms, ability to quickly memorize music, and its tendency to improvise some of Unova's most catchy melodies on the spot.

Species: Percussmur

Type: Steel/Normal

Ability: Soundproof

Overview: The Hardian Whismur was found to be great at mimicking light percussive instruments, often cymbals, but have also been used to recreate snares. Some bands may also use a Percussmur to keep tempo.

Appearance: The Hardian Whismur line’s most notable feature is its reflective, hard exterior, and its first form is no exception. Percussmur do appear much less metallic than their two evolutions, however, with the lower half of their body looking almost like a black suit, and silvery steel covering the rest of their body. Their black, blocky-looking ears feature ivory white tips, whose features vary depending on the Percussmur: Some make shaking sounds like maracas or tambourines, some recreate the metal clanging of cymbals, and many more strike them together to create a hollow clicking noise. Shiny variants appear to have a reflective golden finish, noticeable most on the golden tips of their ears.

Species: Leadred

Type: Steel/Normal

Ability: Soundproof

Overview: Hardian Loudred are the most melodic of the line, often mimicking clarinets and saxophones. In some cities, Leadred can be found street performing for food and treats.

Appearance: Leadred, like Percussmur, has a body covered in mostly silver-colored metal. Some parts of their arms feature small, brass-colored spots, resembling the keys found on some woodwinds. Rather than shouting, their mouths seem to buzz when playing music, the resulting music usually coming out of one of their flared, bell-shaped ears. Shiny variants instead have mostly brass coatings, with their spots instead being an ivory white.

Species: Brassloud

Type: Steel/Normal

Ability: Soundproof

Overview: Hardian Exploud's volume ranges are often reserved for instruments like the cornet and trombone. Outside of jazz, Brassloud have also been utilized in marching bands.

Appearance: Brassloud’s body is covered in a similar medal to both of its previous evolutions. Their heads don’t appear to be coated in metal like the rest of their body, but have the brownish yellow color of brass. On the back of their head are three large holes instead of multiple smaller ones, and their two metal tails are curved forwards, above their shoulders as if trumpets. Brassloud rarely open their mouths, but are well known for their large, puffed cheeks while playing. Shiny variants often feature jet black steel instead of the gray of the more common Brassloud, and their brass accents appear much more golden in color and luster.

Overview: Dreams of sickness, war, and death still pollute Hardian Unova, and have left a negative impact on the Munna that feed off of dreams.

Type: Psychic/Dark

TBA

Overview: The industry in Unova, and the pollution caused by it, caused much of the Frosmoth population there to adopt a sooty exterior. Many Frosmoth long for a time, or place, when they can clean off their ashes and return to the way they once were.

Type: Poison/Bug (Ice/Bug when Soot Shed is in effect)
